ਰਚਾ ਬੈਰ ਬਾਦੰ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥
rachaa bair baadan bidhaate apaaran |

Vidhata created many kinds of enmity and controversies

ਜਿਸੈ ਸਾਧਿ ਸਾਕਿਓ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਸੁਧਾਰੰ ॥
jisai saadh saakio na koaoo sudhaaran |

The Providence created the great vices of enmity and strife, which could not be controlled by any reformer.

ਬਲੀ ਕਾਮ ਰਾਯੰ ਮਹਾ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹੰ ॥
balee kaam raayan mahaa lobh mohan |

Mahabali from the weapons of lust, greed, infatuation etc

ਗਯੋ ਕਉਨ ਬੀਰੰ ਸੁ ਯਾ ਤੇ ਅਲੋਹੰ ॥੧॥
gayo kaun beeran su yaa te alohan |1|

Which warrior could save himself from the blwos of mighty king lust and the great courtiers creed and attachment? 1.

ਤਹਾ ਬੀਰ ਬੰਕੇ ਬਕੈ ਆਪ ਮਧੰ ॥
tahaa beer banke bakai aap madhan |

There (in Ranbhoomi) the brave warriors are speaking bitter words to each other.

ਉਠੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਮਚਾ ਜੁਧ ਸੁਧੰ ॥
autthe sasatr lai lai machaa judh sudhan |

There the youthful warriors are busy challenging shuts amongst themselves, they stand up with their weapons and are engaged in tough fight.

ਕਹੂੰ ਖਪਰੀ ਖੋਲ ਖੰਡੇ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥
kahoon khaparee khol khandde apaaran |

Kahe Khapare (broad-fruited arrow) shell and khande bearers (killing each other)

ਨਚੈ ਬੀਰ ਬੈਤਾਲ ਡਉਰੂ ਡਕਾਰੰ ॥੨॥
nachai beer baitaal ddauroo ddakaaran |2|

In this fight, somewhere there are innumerable shafts, helmets and double-edged swords in use. The evil spirits and ghosts are dancing and the tabors are resounding.2.

ਕਹੂੰ ਈਸ ਸੀਸੰ ਪੁਐ ਰੁੰਡ ਮਾਲੰ ॥
kahoon ees seesan puaai rundd maalan |

Somewhere Shiva wears the heads (runds) in garlands.

ਕਹੂੰ ਡਾਕ ਡਉਰੂ ਕਹੂੰਕੰ ਬਿਤਾਲੰ ॥
kahoon ddaak ddauroo kahoonkan bitaalan |

Somewhere the god Shiva is stringing the skulls in his rosary of skulls, somewhere the vampires and ghosts are shrieking joyfully.

ਚਵੀ ਚਾਵਡੀਅੰ ਕਿਲੰਕਾਰ ਕੰਕੰ ॥
chavee chaavaddeean kilankaar kankan |

Sometimes the birds speak and sometimes they chirp.

ਗੁਥੀ ਲੁਥ ਜੁਥੇ ਬਹੈ ਬੀਰ ਬੰਕੰ ॥੩॥
guthee luth juthe bahai beer bankan |3|

Somewhere the terrible goddess Chamunda is shouting and somewhere the vultures are shrieking. Somewhere the corpses of youthful warriors are lying inter-lovked.3.

ਪਰੀ ਕੁਟ ਕੁਟੰ ਰੁਲੇ ਤਛ ਮੁਛੰ ॥
paree kutt kuttan rule tachh muchhan |

There has been a lot of beating, the pieces (of the bodies of the heroes) are crying.

ਰਹੇ ਹਾਥ ਡਾਰੇ ਉਭੈ ਉਰਧ ਮੁਛੰ ॥
rahe haath ddaare ubhai uradh muchhan |

There had been tough battle, because of which the chopped corpses are rolling in dush. Somewhere the dead warriors are lying uncared with their hands on their whiskers.

ਕਹੂੰ ਖੋਪਰੀ ਖੋਲ ਖਿੰਗੰ ਖਤੰਗੰ ॥
kahoon khoparee khol khingan khatangan |

Somewhere skull-protecting shells and bow-and-arrows are rolling,

ਕਹੂੰ ਖਤ੍ਰੀਅੰ ਖਗ ਖੇਤੰ ਨਿਖੰਗੰ ॥੪॥
kahoon khatreean khag khetan nikhangan |4|

Somewhere the skulls, helmets, bows and arrows are lying scattered. Somewhere the swords and quivers of the warriors are there in the battlefield.4.

ਚਵੀ ਚਾਵਡੀ ਡਾਕਨੀ ਡਾਕ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
chavee chaavaddee ddaakanee ddaak maarai |

Somewhere the crickets are talking and the postmen are belching.

ਕਹੂੰ ਭੈਰਵੀ ਭੂਤ ਭੈਰੋ ਬਕਾਰੈ ॥
kahoon bhairavee bhoot bhairo bakaarai |

Somewhere the vultures shriek and somewhere the vampire is belching.

ਕਹੂੰ ਬੀਰ ਬੈਤਾਲ ਬੰਕੇ ਬਿਹਾਰੰ ॥
kahoon beer baitaal banke bihaaran |

Somewhere Bir Baital wanders around with a bang ('Bunke').

ਕਹੂੰ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤੰ ਹਸੈ ਮਾਸਹਾਰੰ ॥੫॥
kahoon bhoot pretan hasai maasahaaran |5|

Somewhere the evil spirits and ghosts are walking slantingly, somewhere the ghosts, fiends and meateaters are laughing.5.

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਮਹਾ ਬੀਰ ਗਜੇ ॥
mahaa beer gaje |

The great warriors are roaring

ਸੁਣ ਮੇਘ ਲਜੇ ॥
sun megh laje |

Hearing the thunder of minghty warriors, the clouds felt shy.

ਝੰਡਾ ਗਡ ਗਾਢੇ ॥
jhanddaa gadd gaadte |

(They have) firmly planted their flags

ਮੰਡੇ ਰੋਸ ਬਾਢੇ ॥੬॥
mandde ros baadte |6|

Strong banners have been fixed and highly infuriated the heroes are enaged in war.6.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣੰ ਕਟਾਰੰ ॥
kripaanan kattaaran |

With swords and daggers

ਭਿਰੇ ਰੋਸ ਧਾਰੰ ॥
bhire ros dhaaran |

Holding their swords and daggers, they are fighting in great anger.

ਮਹਾਬੀਰ ਬੰਕੰ ॥
mahaabeer bankan |

(many) Banke great warriors

ਭਿਰੇ ਭੂਮਿ ਹੰਕੰ ॥੭॥
bhire bhoom hankan |7|

The winsome great heroes, with their fighting, make the earth tremble.7.

ਮਚੇ ਸੂਰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰੰ ॥
mache soor sasatran |

The armor of the warriors is starting to move

ਉਠੀ ਝਾਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ॥
autthee jhaar asatran |

The warriors are fighting with their weapons in great excitement, the weapons as well as the armour are glistening.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣੰ ਕਟਾਰੰ ॥
kripaanan kattaaran |

Swords, swords

ਪਰੀ ਲੋਹ ਮਾਰੰ ॥੮॥
paree loh maaran |8|

There is the great steel-killing with weapons like swords and daggers.8.

ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥
bhujang prayaat chhand |

Bhujang Prayat Verse:

ਹਲਬੀ ਜੁਨਬੀ ਸਰੋਹੀ ਦੁਧਾਰੀ ॥
halabee junabee sarohee dudhaaree |

Various types of swords, the swords from Halab and Junab, Sarohi swords and the double-deged sword, knife, spear and dagger were struck with great ire.

ਬਹੀ ਕੋਪ ਕਾਤੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣੰ ਕਟਾਰੀ ॥
bahee kop kaatee kripaanan kattaaree |

Somewhere knives, kirpans and katars (by their holders) are being plowed with fury.

ਕਹੂੰ ਸੈਹਥੀਅੰ ਕਹੂੰ ਸੁਧ ਸੇਲੰ ॥
kahoon saihatheean kahoon sudh selan |

(Fighting is taking place) somewhere with soldiers and somewhere with soldiers.

ਕਹੂੰ ਸੇਲ ਸਾਗੰ ਭਈ ਰੇਲ ਪੇਲੰ ॥੯॥
kahoon sel saagan bhee rel pelan |9|

Somewhere the lancet and somewhere the pike only were used, somewhere the lance and the dagger were being used violently.9.

ਨਰਾਜ ਛੰਦ ॥
naraaj chhand |

NARAAJ STANZA

ਸਰੋਖ ਸੁਰ ਸਾਜਿਅੰ ॥
sarokh sur saajian |

The heroes are right with anger

ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਸੰਕ ਬਾਜਿਅੰ ॥
bisaar sank baajian |

The warriors are fiercely adorned with weapons, with which tthey fight forsaking all doubts.

ਨਿਸੰਕ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਮਾਰਹੀਂ ॥
nisank sasatr maaraheen |

They beat the armor by getting angry

ਉਤਾਰਿ ਅੰਗ ਡਾਰਹੀਂ ॥੧੦॥
autaar ang ddaaraheen |10|

Without hesitation they strike the weapons and chop the limbs.10.

ਕਛੂ ਨ ਕਾਨ ਰਾਖਹੀਂ ॥
kachhoo na kaan raakhaheen |

don't care about anyone,

ਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਭਾਖਹੀਂ ॥
su maar maar bhaakhaheen |

They do not care at all and shout “kill, kill”.

ਸੁ ਹਾਕ ਹਾਠ ਰੇਲਿਯੰ ॥
su haak haatth reliyan |

They push (the opponent) away by challenging them

ਅਨੰਤ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਝੇਲਿਯੰ ॥੧੧॥
anant sasatr jheliyan |11|

They challenge and drive with force and endure the blows of many weapons.11.

ਹਜਾਰ ਹੂਰਿ ਅੰਬਰੰ ॥
hajaar hoor anbaran |

Thousands of hoors are (in) the sky.

ਬਿਰੁਧ ਕੈ ਸੁਅੰਬਰੰ ॥
birudh kai suanbaran |

Thousand of houris (beautiful heavenly damsels) move in the sky; they move forward to marry the martyrs.

ਕਰੂਰ ਭਾਤ ਡੋਲਹੀ ॥
karoor bhaat ddolahee |

(Warriors in the war-ground) wobble wildly

ਸੁ ਮਾਰੁ ਮਾਰ ਬੋਲਹੀ ॥੧੨॥
su maar maar bolahee |12|

The warriors move in the battlefield in a frightful manner, and utter “kill, kill” 12.

ਕਹੂਕਿ ਅੰਗ ਕਟੀਅੰ ॥
kahook ang katteean |

Someone's limbs have been amputated.

ਕਹੂੰ ਸਰੋਹ ਪਟੀਅੰ ॥
kahoon saroh patteean |

The limbs of some warrior have been chopped and the hair of some have been uprooted.

ਕਹੂੰ ਸੁ ਮਾਸ ਮੁਛੀਅੰ ॥
kahoon su maas muchheean |

One's flesh is cut

ਗਿਰੇ ਸੁ ਤਛ ਮੁਛੀਅੰ ॥੧੩॥
gire su tachh muchheean |13|

The flesh of someone has been peeled and someone hath fallen after being chopped.13.

ਢਮਕ ਢੋਲ ਢਾਲਿਯੰ ॥
dtamak dtol dtaaliyan |

Drums and shields are played

ਹਰੋਲ ਹਾਲ ਚਾਲਿਯੰ ॥
harol haal chaaliyan |

There is knocking sound of drums and shield. The frontline army hath been uprooted.

ਝਟਾਕ ਝਟ ਬਾਹੀਅੰ ॥
jhattaak jhatt baaheean |

Warriors wield (weapons) swiftly

ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ਸੈਨ ਗਾਹੀਅੰ ॥੧੪॥
su beer sain gaaheean |14|

The warriors strike their weapons very quickly and trample over the heroic army.14.

ਨਿਵੰ ਨਿਸਾਣ ਬਾਜਿਅੰ ॥
nivan nisaan baajian |

New trumpets sound,

ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ਧੀਰ ਗਾਜਿਅੰ ॥
su beer dheer gaajian |

New trumpets resound and the mighty warriors with quality of forbearance, roar.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਬਾਣ ਬਾਹਹੀ ॥
kripaan baan baahahee |

Shoot bows and arrows

ਅਜਾਤ ਅੰਗ ਲਾਹਹੀ ॥੧੫॥
ajaat ang laahahee |15|

They strike the swords and shoot the arrows and suddenly chop away the limbs. 15.

ਬਿਰੁਧ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਰਾਜਿਯੰ ॥
birudh krudh raajiyan |

The battle-ground (in the warrior) is blessed with anger

ਨ ਚਾਰ ਪੈਰ ਭਾਜਿਯੰ ॥
n chaar pair bhaajiyan |

Filled with anger, they move forward and do not go back even four feet.

ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਗਾਜ ਹੀ ॥
sanbhaar sasatr gaaj hee |

The armors are kept up

ਸੁ ਨਾਦ ਮੇਘ ਲਾਜ ਹੀ ॥੧੬॥
su naad megh laaj hee |16|

They hold the weapons and challenge and hearing their thunder, the clouds feel shy.16.

ਹਲੰਕ ਹਾਕ ਮਾਰਹੀ ॥
halank haak maarahee |

Terrible provocations

ਸਰਕ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਝਾਰਹੀ ॥
sarak sasatr jhaarahee |

They raise their heart-rending shouts and strike their weapons violently.

ਭਿਰੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਸੋਕਿਯੰ ॥
bhire bisaar sokiyan |

Forget the grief and fight

ਸਿਧਾਰ ਦੇਵ ਲੋਕਿਯੰ ॥੧੭॥
sidhaar dev lokiyan |17|

They fight, forgetting all sorrows and several of them move towards heaven.17.

ਰਿਸੇ ਬਿਰੁਧ ਬੀਰਿਯੰ ॥
rise birudh beeriyan |

The heroes of the opposing parties are very angry
