ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਰਨ ਯਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਸਤ੍ਰਨਿ ਕੋ ਜਮ ਧਾਮਿ ਪਠਾਵੈ ॥੧੭੦੫॥

sayaam bhanai ran yaa bidh bhoopat satran ko jam dhaam patthaavai |1705|

In this way, according to the poet, he began to dispatch the enemy to the abode of Yama.1705.

ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਚਢਿਯੋ ਰਥਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਮਹਾ ਮਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਕੋਪ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥

hvai kai suchet chadtiyo rath sayaam mahaa man bheetar kop badtiyo hai |

Conscious, Krishna has mounted the chariot and (his) mind is very angry.

ਆਪਨ ਪਉਰਖ ਸੋਊ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਕੈ ਮ੍ਯਾਨਹੁ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਰਿ ਕਢਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥

aapan paurakh soaoo sanbhaar kai mayaanahu te karavaar kadtiyo hai |

When Krishna regained consciousness, he mounted on his chariot in great ire and thinking of his great strength, he drew his sword from the scabbard

ਧਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਰਿਸ ਖਾਇ ਘਨੀ ਅਰਿਰਾਇ ਮਨੋ ਨਿਧਿ ਨੀਰ ਹਢਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥

dhaae pare ris khaae ghanee ariraae mano nidh neer hadtiyo hai |

Getting highly enraged, he fell upon the terrible enemy like the sea

ਤਾਨਿ ਕਮਾਨਨਿ ਮਾਰਤ ਬਾਨਨ ਸੂਰਨ ਕੇ ਚਿਤ ਚਉਪ ਚਢਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੭੦੬॥

taan kamaanan maarat baanan sooran ke chit chaup chadtiyo hai |1706|

The warriors also pulled their bows and began to discharge arrows in excitement.1706.

ਬੀਰਨ ਘਾਇ ਕਰੇ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਤਬ ਪਉਰਖ ਭੂਪ ਕਬੰਧ ਸਮਾਰਿਓ ॥

beeran ghaae kare jab hee tab paurakh bhoop kabandh samaario |

When the knights struck, the king's torso absorbed the force.

ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਤਬੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਇਨ ਨਾਸੁ ਕਰੋ ਚਿਤ ਬੀਚ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਓ ॥

sasatr sanbhaar tabai apune in naas karo chit beech bichaario |

When the warriors inflicted wounds, then the headless trunk of the king controlling his strength and taking up his weapons, thought of destroying the enemy in his mind

ਧਾਇ ਪਰਿਓ ਰਿਸਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਅਰਿ ਭਾਜਿ ਗਏ ਜਸੁ ਰਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਿਓ ॥

dhaae pario ris siau ran mai ar bhaaj ge jas raam uchaario |

Rushing with anger, he fell into the battlefield and the enemy fled. (Its) Yash (poet) Rama has pronounced thus,

ਤਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਮਨੋ ਮੰਡਲ ਭੀਤਰ ਸੂਰ ਚਢਿਓ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਿ ਸਿਧਾਰਿਓ ॥੧੭੦੭॥

taaran ko mano manddal bheetar soor chadtio andhiaar sidhaario |1707|

He appeared to be like the moon amongst the stars and on the appeared of the moon, the dark ness fled away.1707.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਤੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਬੀਰ ਗਏ ਭਜਿ ਕੈ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਠਹਿਰਾਨਿਓ ॥

sree jadubeer te aadik beer ge bhaj kai na koaoo tthahiraanio |

The heroes like Krishna ran away, and none of the warriors stayed there

ਆਹਵ ਭੂਮਿ ਮੈ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਸਬ ਸੂਰਨ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਕਾਲ ਪਛਾਨਿਓ ॥

aahav bhoom mai bhoopat ko sab sooran maanahu kaal pachhaanio |

To all the warriors the king seemed like Kal (death)

ਭੂਪ ਕਮਾਨ ਤੇ ਬਾਨ ਚਲੇ ਮਨੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਲੈ ਘਨ ਸਿਉ ਬਰਖਾਨਿਓ ॥

bhoop kamaan te baan chale mano ant pralai ghan siau barakhaanio |

All the arrows emanating from the bow of the king were being showered like clouds of the doomsday

ਇਉ ਲਖਿ ਭਾਜਿ ਗਏ ਸਿਗਰੇ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਜੁਧੁ ਨ ਠਾਨਿਓ ॥੧੭੦੮॥

eiau lakh bhaaj ge sigare kinahoon nrip ke sang judh na tthaanio |1708|

Seeing all this, all ran away and none of them fought with the king.1708.

ਸਬ ਹੀ ਭਟ ਭਾਜਿ ਗਏ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਭੂਪ ਭਯੋ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ॥

sab hee bhatt bhaaj ge jab hee prabh ko tab bhoop bhayo anuraagee |

When all the warriors fled, then the king became the lover of the Lord.

ਜੂਝ ਤਬੈ ਤਿਨ ਛਾਡਿ ਦਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੀ ਤਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸੀ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

joojh tabai tin chhaadd dayo har dhiaan kee taeh samaadh see laagee |

When all the warriors ran away, the king then remembered the Lord and forsaking the fighting, he absorbed himself with the devotion of the Lord

ਰਾਜ ਨ ਰਾਜ ਸਮਾਜ ਬਿਖੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਮੈ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਗੀ ॥

raaj na raaj samaaj bikhai kab sayaam kahai har mai mat paagee |

In that society of the kings, the mind of the king Kharag Singh became absorbed in the Lord

ਧੀਰ ਗਹਿਓ ਧਰਿ ਠਾਢੋ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਹੋ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਤੇ ਅਬ ਕੋ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੧੭੦੯॥

dheer gahio dhar tthaadto rahio kaho bhoopat te ab ko baddabhaagee |1709|

He is firmly standing on the earth, who else is so fortunate like the king?1709.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੋ ਬੀਰ ਸਭੋ ਧਰਿ ਡਾਰਨਿ ਕੋ ਜਬ ਘਾਤ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥

sree jadubeer ko beer sabho dhar ddaaran ko jab ghaat banaayo |

When Sri Krishna and all the other heroes devised (some) way to bring down the body.

ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਭਨੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਪੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਬਾਨਨਿ ਓਘ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥

sayaam bhane mil kai fir kai ih pai pun baanan ogh chalaayo |

When the warriors of Krishna thought of getting the king fall on the ground and at the same time discharged clusters of arrows on him

ਦੇਵਬਧੂ ਮਿਲ ਕੈ ਸਬਹੂੰ ਇਹ ਭੂਪ ਕਬੰਧ ਬਿਵਾਨਿ ਚਢਾਯੋ ॥

devabadhoo mil kai sabahoon ih bhoop kabandh bivaan chadtaayo |

All the gods and goddesses together carried this body of the king on the plane.

ਕੂਦ ਪਰਿਓ ਨ ਬਿਵਾਨਿ ਚਢਿਯੋ ਪੁਨਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੀਏ ਰਨ ਭੂ ਮਧਿ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੭੧੦॥

kood pario na bivaan chadtiyo pun sasatr lee ran bhoo madh aayo |1710|

All the women of the gods together lifted and put the trunk of the king on the air-vehicle, but still he jumped down from the vehicle and taking his weapons reached the battlefield.1710.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਧਨੁਖ ਬਾਨ ਲੈ ਪਾਨ ਮੈ ਆਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਰਨ ਬੀਚ ॥

dhanukh baan lai paan mai aan pario ran beech |

Dhanush came to the battlefield with bow and arrow in hand.

ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਹਨੇ ਲਲਕਾਰਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਮੀਚ ॥੧੭੧੧॥

soorabeer bahu bidh hane lalakaariyo tab meech |1711|

Taking his bow and arrows in his hands he reached the battlefield and killing many warriors, he began to challenge death.1711.

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

CHAUPAI

ਅੰਤਕ ਜਮ ਜਬ ਲੈਨੇ ਆਵੈ ॥

antak jam jab laine aavai |

(To the king) when Antaka and Yama come to take

ਲਖਿ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਬਾਨ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥

lakh tih ko tab baan chalaavai |

When the messengers of Yama came to take him, he even discharged his arrows towards them

ਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੇਖ ਕੈ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਟਰੈ ॥

mrit pekh kai it ut ttarai |

Seeing the dead, he moves here and there.

ਮਾਰਿਓ ਕਾਲ ਹੂੰ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਮਰੈ ॥੧੭੧੨॥

maario kaal hoon ko nahee marai |1712|

He moved here and there, feeling his death at hand, but on being killed by the Kal (death), he was not dying.1712.

ਪੁਨਿ ਸਤ੍ਰਨਿ ਦਿਸਿ ਰਿਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥

pun satran dis ris kar dhaayo |

Then he ran angrily towards the direction of the enemies

ਮਾਨਹੁ ਜਮ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਧਰਿ ਆਯੋ ॥

maanahu jam moorat dhar aayo |

He again, in his fury, fell upon in the direction of the enemy and it seemed that Yama himself was coming in person

ਇਉ ਸੁ ਜੁਧੁ ਬੈਰਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਿਓ ॥

eiau su judh bairin sang kario |

Thus he has fought with the enemies.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੁਭਟਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਡਰਿਓ ॥੧੭੧੩॥

har har bidh subhattan man ddario |1713|

He began to fight with the enemies, when, observing this, Krishna and Shiva were infuriated in their minds.1713.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰੈ ਮਨੁਹਾਰਿ ਕਰੈ ਕਹੈ ਇਉ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜੁਧ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਨ ਕਰਈਯੈ ॥

haar parai manuhaar karai kahai iau nrip judh brithaa na kareeyai |

Being tired, they began to persuade the king by saying, “O king! do not fight now uselessly

ਡਾਰਿ ਦੈ ਹਾਥਨ ਤੇ ਹਥੀਆਰਨ ਕੋਪ ਤਜੋ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਤਿ ਸਮਈਯੈ ॥

ddaar dai haathan te hatheeaaran kop tajo sukh saat sameeyai |

There is no warrior like you in all the three worlds and your praise has spread in all these worlds:

ਸੂਰ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਭਯੋ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਸਮ ਤੇਰੋ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਤਿਹੂੰ ਪੁਰਿ ਗਈਯੈ ॥

soor na koaoo bhayo tumare sam tero prataap tihoon pur geeyai |

“Abandoning your weapons and ire, now be peaceful

ਛਾਡਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਮ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਬੈ ਸੁ ਬਿਵਾਨ ਚਢੋ ਸੁਰ ਧਾਮਿ ਸਿਧਈਯੈ ॥੧੭੧੪॥

chhaaddat hai ham sasatr sabai su bivaan chadto sur dhaam sidheeyai |1714|

We all forsake our weapons, go to heaven, mounting on the air-vehicle.”1714.

ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਸਬ ਦੇਵਨ ਅਰੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਦੀਨ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਜਬ ਕਹਿਓ ॥

sab devan ar krisan deen hvai jab kahio |

When all the gods and Krishna said with alacrity,

ਹਟੋ ਜੁਧ ਤੇ ਭੂਪ ਹਮੋ ਮੁਖਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਗਹਿਓ ॥

hatto judh te bhoop hamo mukh trin gahio |

When all the gods and Krishna said these words very humbly and taking the blades of straw in their mouths, they went away from the battlefield,

ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੁਨਿ ਆਤੁਰ ਬੈਨ ਸੁ ਕੋਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਓ ॥

nrip sun aatur bain su kop nivaario |

The king gave up his anger after hearing (their) sorrowful words.

ਹੋ ਧਨੁਖ ਬਾਨ ਦਿਓ ਡਾਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਰਿਓ ॥੧੭੧੫॥

ho dhanukh baan dio ddaar raam man dhaario |1715|

Then listening to their words of distress, the king also abandoned his anger and put his bow and arrows on the earth.1715.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕਿੰਨਰ ਜਛ ਅਪਛਰਨਿ ਲਯੋ ਬਿਵਾਨ ਚਢਾਇ ॥

kinar jachh apachharan layo bivaan chadtaae |

Kinnaras, Yakshas and Apacharas carried (the king) in the plane.

ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਸੁਨਿ ਹਰਖੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਸੁਰ ਰਾਇ ॥੧੭੧੬॥

jai jai kaar apaar sun harakhe mun sur raae |1716|

The Kinnars, Yakshas and the heavenly damsels got him mounted on the ari-vehicle and listening to the shouts hailing him, even Indra, king of the gods also got pleased.1716.
