ਭਵਨ ਚਤੁਰਦਸ ਮਾਝਿ ਉਜਿਯਾਰੀ ॥

Raja Chhattar Ket’s wife was so well known that she was famous in all the ten regions.(2)

ਛਤ੍ਰ ਮੰਜਰੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਯਾਰੀ ॥

‘I must manage to get a boy when the Raja comes to visit me,’(6)

Petrified of the co-wife, she started to squander wealth among people,

ਤੇ ਵਾ ਕੀ ਸਵਤਿਹ ਚਹੈ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਪਾਇ ॥੮॥
te vaa kee savatih chahai sakai na moorakh paae |8|

But people still liked her co-wife and this fool could not acquiesce.(8)

ਤਾ ਕਹ ਦਰਬੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਨ ਦੇਹੀ ॥
taa kah darab na dekhan dehee |

But she used to meet the co-wife as well and often praised her saying,

ਤੁਮ ਕਹ ਬਰਿ ਹੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥
tum kah bar hai nripat hamaaro |

ਹ੍ਵੈਹੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਤੁਮਾਰੋ ॥੧੧॥

‘Our Raja will retain you and your magnificence will flourish.’(11)

ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਧਨ ਲੂਟਹਿ ॥

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਆਨਿ ਵਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਕਹ ਕੂਟਹਿ ॥
bahur aan vaa triyaa kah kootteh |

Outwardly she robbed her of her wealth and beat her (mentally).

ਇਹ ਬਿਧ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਤਿਨੈ ਦਿਖਰਾਵੈ ॥
eih bidh traas tinai dikharaavai |

ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਮੂੰਡ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਕੈ ਖਾਵੈ ॥੧੨॥

Advancing in such a way, she ransacked them both lavishly.(12)

ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਿਹ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥

Thus, both of them, as a matter of fact, indulged in many deceits,

ਦਰਬੁ ਜੜਨਿ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਕੌ ਇਹ ਛਲ ਛਲਹਿ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੧੩॥
darab jarran ke dhaam kau ih chhal chhaleh banaae |13|

As they ravaged the Raja’s wealth through trickery.(l3)
