ਸਿਰ ਮੋ ਖਾਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਜੁ ਤਿਹ ਕਟੁ ਬਚ ਕਹੈ ॥
sir mo khaae kripaan ju tih katt bach kahai |He who speaks bitter words to them, bears the blow of Kripan on his head.
ਨਿੰਬੂਆ ਟਿਕ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੈ ਮੂੰਛਿ ਐਸੇ ਕੀਏ ॥
ninbooaa ttik keh rahai moonchh aaise kee |They keep the mustaches in such a way (vat chradhai) that lemons stick to them.
ਹੋ ਤੇ ਨਰ ਪੀਵਹਿ ਭਾਗ ਕਹਾ ਪਸੁ ਤੈਂ ਪੀਏ ॥੧੪॥
ho te nar peeveh bhaag kahaa pas tain pee |14|Those men only drink bhang, where do animals like you drink. 14.
ਅਗੰਜਾਨ ਜੋ ਗੰਜਤ ਸਦਾ ਅਗੰਜ ਨਰ ॥
aganjaan jo ganjat sadaa aganj nar |Those who go bald are always bald men.
ਤ੍ਰਸਤ ਤਾਪ ਤੁਟਿ ਜਾਇ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਜਿਹ ਖੜਗ ਕਰ ॥
trasat taap tutt jaae nirakh jih kharrag kar |Seeing the sword in their hands, the sorrow of those who are afraid is removed.
ਤੇ ਪੀਵਤ ਹੈ ਭਾਗ ਅਧਿਕ ਜਿਨ ਜਸ ਲਏ ॥
te peevat hai bhaag adhik jin jas le |They drink bhang who have (in the world) to take more Jas.
ਹੋ ਦਾਨ ਖਾਡ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜਗ ਤੇ ਗਏ ॥੧੫॥
ho daan khaadd kai pratham bahur jag te ge |15|They first donate swords to the world, then they leave the world. 15.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਤੇ ਨਰ ਕੈਫਨ ਕੋ ਪਿਯਤ ਤੈ ਕ੍ਯਾ ਪਿਯਹਿ ਅਜਾਨ ॥
te nar kaifan ko piyat tai kayaa piyeh ajaan |Those men only consume drugs, O Ajan! What drug will you do?
ਕਰ ਤਕਰੀ ਪਕਰਤ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਕਸੀ ਨ ਕਮਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ॥੧੬॥
kar takaree pakarat rahiyo kasee na kamar kripaan |16|He has always held the sword in his hand, (never) he has not cut the kirpan with a bow. 16.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥
chauapee |twenty four:
ਯੌ ਸੁਨਿ ਬੈਨ ਸਾਹੁ ਰਿਸਿ ਭਰਿਯੋ ॥
yau sun bain saahu ris bhariyo |Hearing these words, Shah was filled with anger
ਨਿਜੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਹ ਕਟੁ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਰਿਯੋ ॥
nij triy kah katt bachan uchariyo |And spoke bitter words to his wife.
ਲਾਤ ਮੁਸਟ ਭੇ ਕੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਾ ॥
laat musatt bhe kee prahaaraa |Kicked and punched (him).
ਤੈ ਕ੍ਯੋਨ ਐਸੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰਾ ॥੧੭॥
tai kayon aaisee bhaat uchaaraa |17|(And said that) why do you speak like this. 17.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯੋ ਬਾਚ ॥
triyo baach |The woman said:
ਕਹੋ ਸਾਹੁ ਤੌ ਸਾਚ ਉਚਰਊਾਂ ॥
kaho saahu tau saach uchraooaan |Hey Shah! If you say, I will tell you the truth.
ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਤਊ ਅਧਿਕ ਜਿਯ ਡਰਊਾਂ ॥
tum te taoo adhik jiy ddraooaan |Still (I) am very afraid of you in my heart.
ਜੋ ਕੁਲ ਰੀਤਿ ਬਡਨ ਚਲਿ ਆਈ ॥
jo kul reet baddan chal aaee |Which is the tradition of elders,
ਸੋ ਮੈ ਤੁਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਹਤ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥੧੮॥
so mai tuhi prat kahat sunaaee |18|I am telling you that. 18.
ਛਪੈ ਛੰਦ ॥
chhapai chhand |Printed Verse:
ਦਿਜਨ ਦਾਨ ਦੀਬੋ ਦ੍ਰੁਜਾਨ ਸਿਰ ਖੜਗ ਬਜੈਬੋ ॥
dijan daan deebo drujaan sir kharrag bajaibo |Giving alms to Brahmins, knocking on the heads of Durjans,
ਮਹਾ ਦੁਸਟ ਕਹ ਦੰਡਿ ਦਾਰਿਦ ਦੀਨਾਨ ਗਵੈਬੋ ॥
mahaa dusatt kah dandd daarid deenaan gavaibo |To punish the wicked, to relieve the suffering of the poor,
ਨਿਜੁ ਨਾਰਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਕੇਲ ਚਿਰ ਲੌ ਮਚਿ ਮੰਡਬ ॥
nij naarin ke saath kel chir lau mach manddab |Playing with their wives for a long time,
ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਰਨ ਖੇਤ ਖਲਨ ਖੰਡਨ ਸੌ ਖੰਡਬ ॥
khandd khandd ran khet khalan khanddan sau khanddab |To tear apart the enemies in the battlefield (etc. are skillful actions).
ਅਮਲ ਨ ਪੀ ਏਤੀ ਕਰੈ ਕ੍ਯੋ ਆਯੋ ਮਹਿ ਲੋਕ ਮਹਿ ॥
amal na pee etee karai kayo aayo meh lok meh |Why have they come to this people who do not do these things after drinking alcohol?
ਸੁਰ ਅਸੁਰ ਜਛ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਸਭੈ ਤਿਹ ਨਰ ਕੌ ਹਸਿ ਹਸਿ ਕਹਹਿ ॥੧੯॥
sur asur jachh gandhrab sabhai tih nar kau has has kaheh |19|Gods, giants, yakshas, gandharas laugh and say this to that man. 19.
ਛੰਦ ॥
chhand |verse:
ਸੋ ਨਰ ਪਿਯਤ ਨ ਭਾਗ ਰਹੈ ਕੌਡੀ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਹ ਚਿਤ ॥
so nar piyat na bhaag rahai kauaddee meh jih chit |A person who does not smoke bhang and whose mind is fixed on the illusion (maya).
ਸੋ ਨਰ ਅਮਲ ਨ ਪਿਯੈ ਦਾਨ ਭੇ ਨਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਹਿਤ ॥
so nar amal na piyai daan bhe neh jaa ko hit |person who does not drink alcohol and has no interest in giving charity.
ਸ੍ਯਾਨੋ ਅਧਿਕ ਕਹਾਇ ਕਾਕ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
sayaano adhik kahaae kaak kee upamaa paaveh |(Those people) being likened to crows, call themselves wise.
ਅੰਤ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਮਰੈ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨਿਯਾ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ॥੨੦॥
ant svaan jayon marai deen duniyaa pachhutaaveh |20|In the end, they die humbly like a dog in the world and repent. 20.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਕ ਕੀ ਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਮਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ॥
ant kaak kee mrit marai man bheetar pachhutaeh |(He) finally regrets the death of the crow in his heart.
ਖੰਡਾ ਗਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਜਸ ਲਿਯੋ ਕਛੂ ਜਗਤ ਕੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੨੧॥
khanddaa gahiyo na jas liyo kachhoo jagat ke maeh |21|(He) has not grasped the khanda and has not taken anything in the world. 21.
ਸਾਹ ਬਾਚ ॥
saah baach |Shah said:
ਚੌਪਈ ॥
chauapee |twenty four:
ਸੁਨ ਸਾਹੁਨਿ ਤੈ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ॥
sun saahun tai kachh na jaanat |Hey Shahni! Listen, you don't know anything
ਸੋਫਿਨ ਸੌ ਅਮਲਿਨ ਕਹ ਠਾਨਤ ॥
sofin sau amalin kah tthaanat |And tells the sophies of Amal.
ਸੋਫੀ ਰੰਕ ਦਰਬੁ ਉਪਜਾਵੈ ॥
sofee rank darab upajaavai |Nirdhan Sofi also generates wealth
ਅਮਲੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਹੂੰ ਧਾਮ ਲੁਟਾਵੈ ॥੨੨॥
amalee nripahoon dhaam luttaavai |22|And the practical king also robs money. 22.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯੋ ਬਾਚ ॥

ਜੇ ਅਮਲਨ ਕਹ ਖਾਇ ਖਤਾ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨਹਿ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
je amalan kah khaae khataa kabahoon neh khaavai |Those (people) who follow practice never make mistakes.
ਮੂੰਡਿ ਅਵਰਨਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਮੁੰਡਾਵੈ ॥
moondd avaraneh jaeh aap kabahoon na munddaavai |They deceive others, but they themselves are not deceived.
ਚੰਚਲਾਨ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ਚੋਰ ਛਿਨ ਇਕ ਮਹਿ ਲੇਹੀ ॥
chanchalaan ko chit chor chhin ik meh lehee |(They) steal a woman's image in one fell swoop.
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਮਿਨਨਿ ਭੋਗ ਭਾਵਤ ਮਨ ਦੇਹੀ ॥੨੩॥
bhaat bhaat bhaaminan bhog bhaavat man dehee |23|(They) give various kind of gifts to the women. 23.
