ਅਉਰ ਸਾਤ ਹੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਭੀਤਰ ਦੇਹੁ ਅਉਰ ਬਤਾਇ ॥
aaur saat hoon lok bheetar dehu aaur bataae |

Among the other seven people (any one king) give ten,

ਜਉਨ ਜਉਨ ਨ ਜੀਤਿਆ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰੋਸ ਕੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਾਇ ॥੧੨੯॥
jaun jaun na jeetiaa nrip ros kai nrip raae |129|

When they were asked to tell as to who is that king in the seven words, whom the king (Parasnath) has not conquered his ire ?129.

ਦੇਖਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਬੈ ਤਰ ਕੋ ਨ ਦੇਤ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
dekh dekh rahe sabai tar ko na det bichaar |

All looked down, no one answering thoughtfully.

ਐਸ ਕਉਨ ਰਹਾ ਧਰਾ ਪਰ ਦੇਹੁ ਤਾਹਿ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
aais kaun rahaa dharaa par dehu taeh uchaar |

All of them looked with bowed heads and reflected as to who was that king on the earth whose name might be mentioned

ਏਕ ਏਕ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪੂਛ ਸਰਬ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
ek ek bulaae bhoopat poochh sarab bulaae |

He called the king one by one and then called everyone and asked.

ਕੋ ਅਜੀਤ ਰਹਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਦੇਹੁ ਬਤਾਇ ॥੧੩੦॥
ko ajeet rahaa nahee jih tthaur dehu bataae |130|

The king called each one of them and asked him ad to who was he who he who had remained unconquered?130.

ਏਕ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬਾਚ ॥
ek nrip baach |

Speech of a king :

ਰੂਆਲ ਛੰਦ ॥
rooaal chhand |

ROOAAL STANZA

ਏਕ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਉਚਰੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਬੈਨ ॥
ek bhoopat ucharo sun lehu raajaa bain |

A king said O King! hear the word

ਜਾਨ ਮਾਫ ਕਰੋ ਕਹੋ ਤਬ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਸੁ ਨੈਨ ॥
jaan maaf karo kaho tab raaj raaj su nain |

One of the kings said, “If you assure the safety of my life, then I can say

ਏਕ ਹੈ ਮੁਨਿ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਮੈ ਅਰੁ ਮਛ ਕੇ ਉਰ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
ek hai mun sindh mai ar machh ke ur maeh |

(I say one thing). A sage is in the belly of a fish and lives in the ocean.

ਮੋਹਿ ਰਾਵ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਭਾਖੌ ਤਾਹਿ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧੩੧॥
mohi raav bibek bhaakhau taeh bhoopat naeh |131|

“There is a fish in the sea, in whose belly there is a sage I am speaking the truth ask him and do not ask any of the other kings.131.

ਏਕ ਦ੍ਯੋਸ ਜਟਧਰੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੀਨੁ ਛੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ ॥
ek dayos jattadharee nrip keen chheer praves |

One day the Jatadhari king entered the Chhir Samudra.

ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਰੂਪ ਹੁਤੀ ਤਹਾ ਇਕ ਨਾਰਿ ਨਾਗਰ ਭੇਸ ॥
chitr roop hutee tahaa ik naar naagar bhes |

“O king! one day Shiva wearing matted locks persistently entered the ocean, where he saw an unparalleled fasciating woman

ਤਾਸੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਿਵੇਸ ਕੋ ਗਿਰ ਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਧ ਮਝਾਰ ॥
taas dekh sives ko gir bind sindh majhaar |

Seeing him, the semen of Shiva's avatar ('Sives'-Datta) fell into the ocean.

ਮਛ ਪੇਟ ਮਛੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਬੈਠਿ ਹੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬਾਰ ॥੧੩੨॥
machh pett machhandr jogee baitth hai nrip baar |132|

Seeing her, his semen was discharged within the ocean and because of that the Yogi Matsyendra is seated within the belly of a fish.132.

ਤਾਸੁ ਤੇ ਚਲ ਪੁਛੀਐ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸਰਬ ਬਾਤ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥
taas te chal puchheeai nrip sarab baat bibek |

So O Rajan! From that side, you should go and ask about Bibek.

ਏਨ ਤੋਹਿ ਬਤਾਇ ਹੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਭਾਖਿ ਹੋ ਜੁ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
en tohi bataae hai nrip bhaakh ho ju anek |

“O king! go and ask him, all these kings, who have been invited by you will not be able to tell you anything

ਐਸ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਜਬੈ ਤਬ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥
aais baat sunee jabai tab raaj raaj avataar |

When the incarnate king of kings heard such talk,

ਸਿੰਧੁ ਖੋਜਨ ਕੋ ਚਲਾ ਲੈ ਜਗਤ ਕੇ ਸਬ ਜਾਰ ॥੧੩੩॥
sindh khojan ko chalaa lai jagat ke sab jaar |133|

When the sovereign heard this he went in search of that fish in the ocean taking with him all the nets of the world.133.

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਮੰਗਾਇ ਜਾਲਨ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਦਲ ਸਰਬ ॥
bhaat bhaat mangaae jaalan sang lai dal sarab |

By summoning the nets of Bhant Bhant, taking all the party along

ਜੀਤ ਦੁੰਦਭ ਦੈ ਚਲਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਜੀਅ ਗਰਬ ॥
jeet dundabh dai chalaa nrip jaan kai jeea garab |

The king proudly moved sounding his drums, taking various types of nets and his army with him

ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੁਮਾਰਿ ਸੰਪਤ ਸਰਬ ਮਧਿ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
mantree mitr kumaar sanpat sarab madh bulaae |

The ministers, friends and Kumaras were invited to the (sea) along with all their belongings

ਸਿੰਧ ਜਾਰ ਡਰੇ ਜਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਮਛ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਡਰਾਇ ॥੧੩੪॥
sindh jaar ddare jahaa tahaa machh satru ddaraae |134|

He called all this ministers, friends, princes etc., and threw his nets here and there in the ocean all the fish were frightened.134.

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਨ ਮਛ ਕਛਪ ਅਉਰ ਜੀਵ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
bhaat bhaatan machh kachhap aaur jeev apaar |

Various fishes, turtles and other apar

ਬਧਿ ਜਾਰਨ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕਢੇ ਤਬ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸੁ ਧਾਰ ॥
badh jaaran hvai kadte tab tiaag praan su dhaar |

Various types of fish, tortoises and other beings, came out being entrapped in nets and began to die

ਸਿੰਧੁ ਤੀਰ ਗਏ ਜਬੈ ਜਲ ਜੀਵ ਏਕੈ ਬਾਰ ॥
sindh teer ge jabai jal jeev ekai baar |

(At such a time of crisis) all the living beings together went to the sea.

ਐਸ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਏ ਬਖਾਨਤ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਪੈ ਮਤ ਸਾਰ ॥੧੩੫॥
aais bhaat bhe bakhaanat sindh pai mat saar |135|

Then all the beings of water went before the god of ocean and described the cause of their worry.135.

ਬਿਪ ਕੋ ਧਰਿ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਆਇਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
bip ko dhar sindh moorat aaeiyo tih paas |

Samudra came to him (the king) in the form of a Brahman.

ਰਤਨ ਹੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਲ ਮਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਹੈ ਅਨਿਆਸ ॥
ratan heer pravaal maanak deen hai aniaas |

The ocean dame before the king in the guise of Brahmin and offering gems, diamonds, pearls etc. to the king, he said :

ਜੀਵ ਕਾਹਿ ਸੰਘਾਰੀਐ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੀਜੀਐ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬੈਨ ॥
jeev kaeh sanghaareeai sun leejeeai nrip bain |

O Rajan! Listen (to me), for what are you killing the living beings.

ਜਉਨ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੋ ਚਲੇ ਤੁਮ ਸੋ ਨਹੀ ਇਹ ਠੈਨ ॥੧੩੬॥
jaun kaaraj ko chale tum so nahee ih tthain |136|

“Why are you killing the being ?, because the purpose for which you have come here will not be fulfilled here.”136.

Speech of the ocean :

ਰੂਆਲ ਛੰਦ ॥
rooaal chhand |

ROOAAL STANZA

ਛੀਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਹੈ ਜਹਾ ਸੁਨ ਰਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਵਤਾਰ ॥
chheer saagar hai jahaa sun raaj raaj vataar |

king incarnate of kings! Listen, where the sea is deep,

ਮਛ ਉਦਰ ਮਛੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਬੈਠ ਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
machh udar machhandr jogee baitth hai brat dhaar |

“O king! the Yogi Matsyendra is sitting in contemplation in the belly of the fish in milk-ocean

ਡਾਰਿ ਜਾਰ ਨਿਕਾਰ ਤਾਕਹਿ ਪੂਛ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
ddaar jaar nikaar taakeh poochh lehu banaae |

“Take him out with your net and ask him, O king!

ਜੋ ਕਹਾ ਸੋ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਇਹੀ ਸਤਿ ਉਪਾਇ ॥੧੩੭॥
jo kahaa so keejeeai nrip ihee sat upaae |137|

Do whatever I have said this is the real measure?”137.

ਜੋਰਿ ਬੀਰਨ ਨਾਖ ਸਿੰਧਹ ਆਗ ਚਾਲ ਸੁਬਾਹ ॥
jor beeran naakh sindhah aag chaal subaah |

The king gathering together lakhs of his warriors moved away further from the ocean

ਹੂਰ ਪੂਰ ਰਹੀ ਜਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਜਤ੍ਰ ਤਤ੍ਰ ਉਛਾਹ ॥
hoor poor rahee jahaa tahaa jatr tatr uchhaah |

Where the heavenly damsels were moving here and there enthusiastically

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਜਤ ਅਉਰ ਘੁਰਤ ਨਿਸਾਨ ॥
bhaat bhaat bajantr baajat aaur ghurat nisaan |

They all reached there sounding their drums and playing instruments of various types,

ਛੀਰ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਹੁਤੋ ਜਹਾ ਤਿਹ ਠਾਮ ਪਹੁਚੇ ਆਨਿ ॥੧੩੮॥
chheer sindh huto jahaa tih tthaam pahuche aan |138|

Where there was the milk-ocean.138.

ਸੂਤ੍ਰ ਜਾਰ ਬਨਾਇ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਮਧਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
sootr jaar banaae kai tih madh ddaar apaar |

Having made a net of sutra, he cast it into that vast (ocean).

ਅਉਰ ਜੀਵ ਘਨੇ ਗਹੇ ਨ ਵਿਲੋਕਯੋ ਸਿਵ ਬਾਰ ॥
aaur jeev ghane gahe na vilokayo siv baar |

The nets of cotton were prepared and thrown into the ocean, in which many other beings were caught, but the son of Shiva (Matsyendra) was not seen

ਹਾਰਿ ਹਾਰਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਸਬੈ ਭਟ ਆਨਿ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਤੀਰ ॥
haar haar fire sabai bhatt aan bhoopat teer |

All the warriors (with traps) came to the defeated king

ਅਉਰ ਜੀਵ ਘਨੇ ਗਹੇ ਪਰ ਸੋ ਨ ਪਾਵ ਫਕੀਰ ॥੧੩੯॥
aaur jeev ghane gahe par so na paav fakeer |139|

All the warriors, greatly tired came before the king and said, “Many other beings have been caught, but that sage is nowhere to be found.”139.

ਮਛ ਪੇਟਿ ਮਛੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਬੈਠ ਹੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਸ ॥
machh pett machhandr jogee baitth hai bin aas |

Machindra Jogi is sitting hopelessly in the belly of the fish.

ਜਾਰ ਭੇਟ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਵਾ ਕੋ ਮੋਨਿ ਅੰਗ ਸੁ ਬਾਸ ॥
jaar bhett sakai na vaa ko mon ang su baas |

The Yogi is sitting desireless in the belly of the fish and this can’t entrap him
