ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕਥਾ ਅਤਿ ਰੋਚਨ ਜੀਯ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਹੋ ਜਿਹ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਜੀਜੈ ॥

kaanrah kathaa at rochan jeey bichaar kaho jih te fun jeejai |

The story of Krishna is very interesting, repeat it after giving it more thought, so that the life-breath is instilled in us.

ਤੌ ਹਸਿ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੀ ਮੁਸਕਾਇ ਪਹਲੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤਾਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਨਾਮ ਜੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

tau has baat kahee musakaae pahalai nrip taeh pranaam ju keejai |

Therefore, say it thoughtfully, so that by doing it, our living (can be a successful motive). (The Brahmin women) laughed and said, 'First bow down to that king'.

ਤੌ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਕਥਾ ਅਤਿ ਰੋਚਨ ਦੈ ਚਿਤ ਪੈ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਸੁਨ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੩੨੮॥

tau bhagavaan kathaa at rochan dai chit pai ham te sun leejai |328|

Those women said smilingly, “Bow before that sovereign Krishna in the beginning and then listen to his interesting story.”328.

ਸਾਲਨ ਅਉ ਅਖਨੀ ਬਿਰੀਆ ਜੁਜ ਤਾਹਰੀ ਅਉਰ ਪੁਲਾਵ ਘਨੇ ॥

saalan aau akhanee bireea juj taaharee aaur pulaav ghane |

Salan (meat mince) yakhni, roast meat, roast meat of dumbe chakli, tahri (thick meat mince) and a lot of pulao,

ਨੁਗਦੀ ਅਰੁ ਸੇਵਕੀਆ ਚਿਰਵੇ ਲਡੂਆ ਅਰੁ ਸੂਤ ਭਲੇ ਜੁ ਬਨੇ ॥

nugadee ar sevakeea chirave laddooaa ar soot bhale ju bane |

The meat roasted and cooked in various ways, dish of rice-soup-meat and spice etc., sweetmeat in the form of drops with a coating of sugar, noodles, preparation of soaked rice perched and beaten in a mortar, laddoo (sweet meat)

ਫੁਨਿ ਖੀਰ ਦਹੀ ਅਰੁ ਦੂਧ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਬਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਗਨੇ ॥

fun kheer dahee ar doodh ke saath bare bahu aaur na jaat gane |

Then various kinds of pakodas made of kheer, curd and milk, which cannot be counted.

ਇਹ ਖਾਇ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੰ ਕਹੁ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਬੀਸੁਰ ਭਾਵ ਭਨੇ ॥੩੨੯॥

eih khaae chaliyo bhagavaan grihan kahu sayaam kabeesur bhaav bhane |329|

Preparation of rice, milk and sugar boiled together, curd, milk etc., after eating all these, Krishna went towards his home.329.

ਗਾਵਤ ਗੀਤ ਚਲੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੋ ਗਰੜਧ੍ਵਜ ਜੀਯ ਮੈ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈ ਕੈ ॥

gaavat geet chale grih ko gararradhvaj jeey mai aanand pai kai |

After receiving Ananda in Chit, Sri Krishna went home singing songs.

ਸੋਭਤ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਲੀ ਘਨ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਅਉ ਸੇਤ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਉਨਸੈ ਕੈ ॥

sobhat sayaam ke sang halee ghan sayaam aau set chaliyo unasai kai |

Singing songs and greatly pleased, Krishna went towards his home, Haldhar (Balram) was with him and this couple of white and black looked impressive

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਤਬੈ ਹਸਿ ਕੈ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਸੁ ਬਜਾਇ ਉਠਿਯੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥

kaanrah tabai has kai muralee su bajaae utthiyo apane kar lai kai |

Then Krishna smilingly took his flute in his hand and began to play upon it

ਠਾਢ ਭਈ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਧੁਨਿ ਪਉਨ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਉਰਝੈ ਕੈ ॥੩੩੦॥

tthaadt bhee jamunaa sun kai dhun paun rahiyo sun kai urajhai kai |330|

Hearing its sound, even the water of Yamuna stopped and the blowing wind also in a fix.330.

ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਅਰੁ ਸੋਰਠਿ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਮਾਲਸਿਰੀ ਅਰੁ ਬਾਜਤ ਗਉਰੀ ॥

raamakalee ar soratth saarang maalasiree ar baajat gauree |

(In Sri Krishna's flute) Ramkali, Soratha, Sarang and Malasiri and Gaudi (raag) are played.

ਜੈਤਸਿਰੀ ਅਰੁ ਗੌਡ ਮਲਾਰ ਬਿਲਾਵਲ ਰਾਗ ਬਸੈ ਸੁਭ ਠਉਰੀ ॥

jaitasiree ar gauadd malaar bilaaval raag basai subh tthauree |

The musical modes like Ramkali, Sorath, Sarang, Malshri, Gauri, Jaitshri, Gaund, Malhar, Bilawal etc were played on the flute

ਮਾਨਸ ਕੀ ਕਹ ਹੈ ਗਨਤੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਹੋਤ ਸੁਰੀ ਅਸੁਰੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਉਰੀ ॥

maanas kee kah hai ganatee sun hot suree asuree dhun bauree |

What number of men, the wives of gods and giants have become dwarfs after hearing the tune (of the flute).

ਸੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਧੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਉਨਨ ਮੈ ਤਰੁਨੀ ਹਰਨੀ ਜਿਮ ਆਵਤ ਦਉਰੀ ॥੩੩੧॥

so sun kai dhun sraunan mai tarunee haranee jim aavat dauree |331|

Leave side men, even the heavenly damsels and female demons, became mad on hearing the sound of the flute are coming with speed like the does.331

ਬਾਜਤ ਬਸੰਤ ਅਰੁ ਭੈਰਵ ਹਿੰਡੋਲ ਰਾਗ ਬਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਲਲਤਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ॥

baajat basant ar bhairav hinddol raag baajat hai lalataa ke saath hvai dhanaasaree |

Krishna is playing on his flute in the forest, creating a joyous atmosphere,

ਮਾਲਵਾ ਕਲ੍ਯਾਨ ਅਰੁ ਮਾਲਕਉਸ ਮਾਰੂ ਰਾਗ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਬਜਾਵੈ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਮੰਗਲ ਨਿਵਾਸਰੀ ॥

maalavaa kalayaan ar maalkaus maaroo raag ban mai bajaavai kaanrah mangal nivaasaree |

With the musical modes like Vasant, Bhairava, Hindol, Lalit, dhansari, Malwa, Kalyan Malkaus, Maru etc.

ਸੁਰੀ ਅਰੁ ਆਸੁਰੀ ਅਉ ਪੰਨਗੀ ਜੇ ਹੁਤੀ ਤਹਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਨਤ ਪੈ ਨ ਰਹੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਜਾਸੁ ਰੀ ॥

suree ar aasuree aau panagee je hutee tahaa dhun ke sunat pai na rahee sudh jaas ree |

Hearing the tune, the young damsels of gods, demons and Nagas are forgetting the consciousness of their bodies

ਕਹੈ ਇਉ ਦਾਸਰੀ ਸੁ ਐਸੀ ਬਾਜੀ ਬਾਸੁਰੀ ਸੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਾਨੇ ਯਾ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਰਾਗ ਕੋ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਰੀ ॥੩੩੨॥

kahai iau daasaree su aaisee baajee baasuree su mere jaane yaa mai sabh raag ko nivaas ree |332|

They are all saying that the flute is being played in the manner as if the male and female musical modes are living on all the four sides.332.

ਕਰੁਨਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਬੇਦ ਕਹਤ ਬਖਾਨ ਯਾ ਕੀ ਬੀਚ ਤੀਨ ਲੋਕ ਫੈਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਸੁ ਬਾਸੁ ਰੀ ॥

karunaa nidhaan bed kahat bakhaan yaa kee beech teen lok fail rahee hai su baas ree |

The sound of the flute of that treasure of mercy (Krishna) whose elucidation is also found in the Vedas, is spreading in all the three worlds,

ਦੇਵਨ ਕੀ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਉਨਨ ਮੈ ਧਾਈ ਧਾਈ ਆਵੈ ਤਜਿ ਕੈ ਸੁਰਗ ਬਾਸੁ ਰੀ ॥

devan kee kaniaa taa kee sun sun sraunan mai dhaaee dhaaee aavai taj kai surag baas ree |

Hearing its voice, the daughters of gods leaving their abode are coming with the speed

ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ੍ਯ ਰੂਪ ਰਾਗ ਕੋ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਰਚਿਯੋ ਹੈ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਇਹ ਰਾਗਨ ਕੋ ਬਾਸੁ ਰੀ ॥

hvai kar prasanay roop raag ko nihaar kahiyo rachiyo hai bidhaataa ih raagan ko baas ree |

They are saying that the providence has created these musical modes for the flute itself

ਰੀਝੇ ਸਭ ਗਨ ਉਡਗਨ ਭੇ ਮਗਨ ਜਬ ਬਨ ਉਪਬਨ ਮੈ ਬਜਾਈ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਾਸੁਰੀ ॥੩੩੩॥

reejhe sabh gan uddagan bhe magan jab ban upaban mai bajaaee kaanrah baasuree |333|

All the ganas and stars have become pleased when Krishna played on his flute in the forests and gardens.333.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਜਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਅਤਿ ਆਨੰਦ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਡੇਰਨ ਆਏ ॥

kaanrah bajaavat hai muralee at aanand kai man dderan aae |

Kanh has returned to the camp rejoicing (with others) playing the flute.

ਤਾਲ ਬਜਾਵਤ ਕੂਦਤ ਆਵਤ ਗੋਪ ਸਭੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਏ ॥

taal bajaavat koodat aavat gop sabho mil mangal gaae |

Being extremely pleased, Krishna comes home and plays on his flute and all the gopas come springing and singing in consonance with the tune

ਆਪਨ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਧਨਠੀ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਤਿਨੋ ਪਹਿ ਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਨਾਚ ਨਚਾਏ ॥

aapan hvai dhanatthee bhagavaan tino peh te bahu naach nachaae |

The Lord (Krishna) himself inspires them and cause them to dance in various ways

ਰੈਨ ਪਰੀ ਤਬ ਆਪਨ ਆਪਨ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਨੰਦ ਪਾਏ ॥੩੩੪॥

rain paree tab aapan aapan soe rahe grihi aanand paae |334|

When the night falls, all of them being highly pleased go to their homes and sleep.334.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਦਸਮ ਸਿਕੰਧੇ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਵਤਾਰੇ ਬਿਪਨ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰੀਯਨ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਭੋਜਨ ਲੇਇ ਉਧਾਰ ਕਰਬੋ ਬਰਨਨੰ ॥

eit sree dasam sikandhe bachitr naattak granthe krisanaavataare bipan kee treeyan ko chit har bhojan lee udhaar karabo barananan |

Here ends the context of the Brahmin wives of the Krishnavatara of the Sri Dasam Skandh Bachitra Natak Granth of the Brahmin women's chit and bringing food and borrowing.

ਅਥ ਗੋਵਰਧਨ ਗਿਰਿ ਕਰ ਪਰ ਧਾਰਬੋ ॥

ath govaradhan gir kar par dhaarabo |

Now the statement of lifting Govardhan mountain on the hands:

ਇਸੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਜੀ ਕੀਨੇ ਦਿਵਸ ਬਿਤੀਤ ॥

eisee bhaat so krisan jee keene divas biteet |

In this way Krishna passed a long time when the day of Indra-worship arrived,

ਹਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਅਯੋ ਗੋਪ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੩੩੫॥

har poojaa ko din ayo gop bichaaree cheet |335|

The gopas held consultations with one another.335.

ਆਯੋ ਹੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਦ੍ਯੋਸ ਸਭੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਗੋਪਿਨ ਬਾਤ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥

aayo hai indr kee poojaa ko dayos sabho mil gopin baat uchaaree |

All the gopas said that the day of Indra-worship has arrived

ਭੋਜਨ ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨੇਕਨ ਕੋ ਰੁ ਪੰਚਾਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੀ ਕਰੋ ਜਾਇ ਤਯਾਰੀ ॥

bhojan bhaat anekan ko ru panchaamrit kee karo jaae tayaaree |

We should prepare various types of foods and Panchamrit

ਨੰਦ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਜਬ ਗੋਪਿਨ ਸੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਅਉਰ ਚਿਤੀ ਮਨ ਬੀਚ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥

nand kahiyo jab gopin so bidh aaur chitee man beech muraaree |

When Nand said all this to gopas then Krishna reflected something else in his mind

ਕੋ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਮਘਵਾ ਹਮਰੀ ਸਮ ਪੂਜਨ ਜਾਤ ਜਹਾ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੩੩੬॥

ko bapuraa maghavaa hamaree sam poojan jaat jahaa brij naaree |336|

Who is this Indra for whose the women of Braja are going, equalizing him with me?336.

ਕਬਿਤੁ ॥

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੋਲਿਯੋ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਤਾਤ ਕਾਹੇ ਕੇ ਨਵਿਤ ਕੋ ਸਾਮ੍ਰਿਗੀ ਤੈ ਬਨਾਈ ਹੈ ॥

eih bidh boliyo kaanrah karunaa nidhaan taat kaahe ke navit ko saamrigee tai banaaee hai |

Thus (thinking) the ocean of grace Sri Krishna began to say, O father! Why did you make all this stuff? (In reply) Nanda said thus, He who is called the lord of the three peoples has made (all this material) for (his worship).

ਕਹਿਯੋ ਐਸੇ ਨੰਦ ਜੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਕੀਪਤਿ ਭਾਖੀਅਤ ਤਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਬਨਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਸੁਨਾਈ ਹੈ ॥

kahiyo aaise nand jo trilokeepat bhaakheeat taahee ko banaaee har keh kai sunaaee hai |

Krishna, the ocean of mercy said, “O dear father! For whom all these things have been prepared?” Nand said to Krishan, “He, who is the Lord of the three worlds, for that Indra all these things have been made
