ਨਾਰਦ ਰਿਖਿ ਤਬ ਰਾਇ ਮੰਗਾਯੋ ॥੧॥
naarad rikh tab raae mangaayo |1|

Then the king called Narada Rishi to him. 1.

ਸਭ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਭਯੋ ॥
sabh devan ko raajaa bhayo |

(He) became the king of all the gods

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਤਿਲਕ ਆਪੁ ਤਿਹ ਦਯੋ ॥
brahamaa tilak aap tih dayo |

And Brahma himself applied tilak to him.

ਨਿਹਕੰਟਕ ਸੁਰ ਕਟਕ ਕਿਯਾ ਸਬ ॥
nihakanttak sur kattak kiyaa sab |

He freed (nihkantak) all the host of the gods (from the fear of enemies),

ਦਾਨਵ ਮਾਰ ਨਿਕਾਰ ਦਏ ਜਬ ॥੨॥
daanav maar nikaar de jab |2|

When (all) the giants were killed and removed. 2.

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਾਜ ਬਰਖ ਬਹੁ ਕਿਯਾ ॥
eih bidh raaj barakh bahu kiyaa |

Thus he ruled for many years.

ਦੀਰਘ ਦਾੜ ਦੈਤ ਭਵ ਲਿਯਾ ॥
deeragh daarr dait bhav liyaa |

(Then) the long-bearded giant was born.

ਦਸ ਸਹਸ ਛੂਹਨਿ ਦਲ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥
das sahas chhoohan dal lai kai |

He took ten thousand untouchables

ਚੜਿ ਆਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਊਪਰ ਤੈ ਕੈ ॥੩॥
charr aayo tih aoopar tai kai |3|

Came on him (the king) with anger. 3.

ਸਭ ਦੇਵਨ ਐਸੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
sabh devan aaise sun paayo |

All the gods heard this

ਦੀਰਘ ਦਾੜ ਦੈਤ ਚੜਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
deeragh daarr dait charr aayo |

That the long giant has come up.

ਬੀਸ ਸਹਸ ਛੋਹਨਿ ਦਲ ਲਿਯੋ ॥
bees sahas chhohan dal liyo |

They also took twenty thousand untouchables

ਵਾ ਸੌ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਕਿਯੋ ॥੪॥
vaa sau jaae samaagam kiyo |4|

He went and confronted him. 4.

ਸੂਰਜ ਕਹ ਸੈਨਾਪਤਿ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
sooraj kah sainaapat keenaa |

(The gods) made Surya the army-father.

ਦਹਿਨੇ ਓਰ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਕਹ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
dahine or chandr kah deenaa |

The right side is given to the moon.

ਬਾਈ ਓਰ ਕਾਰਤਿਕੇ ਧਰਾ ॥
baaee or kaaratike dharaa |

Kartikeya is placed on the left side

ਜਿਹ ਪੌਰਖ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨਹਿ ਹਰਾ ॥੫॥
jih pauarakh kinahoon neh haraa |5|

Whose strength no one has (ever) destroyed. 5.

ਇਹ ਦਿਸ ਸਕਲ ਦੇਵ ਚੜਿ ਧਾਏ ॥
eih dis sakal dev charr dhaae |

All the gods ascended from this side.

ਉਹਿ ਦਿਸਿ ਤੇ ਦਾਨਵ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਏ ॥
auhi dis te daanav mil aae |

All the giants came together from that side.

ਬਾਜਨ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਨ ਬਾਜੇ ॥
baajan bhaat bhaat tan baaje |

Various kinds of bells started playing.

ਦੋਊ ਦਿਸਿਨ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਗਾਜੇ ॥੬॥
doaoo disin sooramaa gaaje |6|

In both the directions, the warriors started roaring. 6.

ਦੈ ਦੈ ਢੋਲ ਬਜਾਇ ਨਗਾਰੇ ॥
dai dai dtol bajaae nagaare |

(They) played the drums and nagares while saying 'Dai Dai'

ਪੀ ਪੀ ਭਏ ਕੈਫ ਮਤਵਾਰੇ ॥
pee pee bhe kaif matavaare |

And they became drunk after drinking.

ਤੀਸ ਸਹਸ ਛੋਹਨਿ ਦਲ ਸਾਥਾ ॥
tees sahas chhohan dal saathaa |

Thirty thousand untouchables in the army

ਰਨ ਦਾਰੁਨੁ ਰਾਚਾ ਜਗਨਾਥਾ ॥੭॥
ran daarun raachaa jaganaathaa |7|

God created a terrible war.7.

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਮਾਰੂ ਜਬ ਬਾਜੋ ॥
bhaat bhaat maaroo jab baajo |

When the deadly bells start ringing,

ਦੀਰਘ ਦਾੜ ਦੈਤ ਰਨ ਗਾਜੋ ॥
deeragh daarr dait ran gaajo |

(Then) the long-bearded giant thundered in the battle.

ਤੀਛਨ ਬਾਨ ਦੋਊ ਦਿਸਿ ਬਹਹੀ ॥
teechhan baan doaoo dis bahahee |

Sharp arrows were shooting from both sides.

ਜਾਹਿ ਲਗਤ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਝ ਨ ਰਹਹੀ ॥੮॥
jaeh lagat tih maajh na rahahee |8|

They did not live in the one whom they visited (meaning they crossed over) ॥8॥

ਧਾਵਤ ਭਏ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥
dhaavat bhe devataa jab hee |

When the gods ascended,

ਦਾਨਵ ਭਰੇ ਰੋਸ ਤਨ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥
daanav bhare ros tan tab hee |

(Then) even the giants were filled with rage.

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਾਦਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਜਾਇ ॥
bhaat bhaat baaditr bajaae |

Various bells were played.

ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਠੇ ਖਿੰਗ ਖੁਨਸਾਇ ॥੯॥
khatree utthe khing khunasaae |9|

Chhatri started to excite the horses for war. 9.

ਚਲੇ ਬਾਨ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
chale baan duhoon or apaaraa |

Countless arrows from both sides,

ਬਿਛੂਆ ਬਰਛੀ ਬਜ੍ਰ ਹਜਾਰਾ ॥
bichhooaa barachhee bajr hajaaraa |

Scorpions, spears and thousands of thunderbolts started moving.

ਗਦਾ ਗਰਿਸਟ ਜਵਨ ਪਰ ਝਰਹੀ ॥
gadaa garisatt javan par jharahee |

On which heavy maces sound,

ਸ੍ਯੰਦਨ ਸਹਿਤ ਚੂਰਨ ਤਿਹ ਕਰਹੀ ॥੧੦॥
sayandan sahit chooran tih karahee |10|

They will crush them along with the chariots. 10.

ਜਾ ਕੇ ਲਗੇ ਅੰਗ ਮੈ ਬਾਨਾ ॥
jaa ke lage ang mai baanaa |

In whose body,

ਕਰਾ ਬੀਰ ਤਿਹ ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਪਯਾਨਾ ॥
karaa beer tih svarag payaanaa |

Those heroes would go to heaven.

ਮਚ੍ਯੋ ਬੀਰ ਖੇਤ ਬਿਕਰਾਲਾ ॥
machayo beer khet bikaraalaa |

A terrible war broke out in the war-land of heroes

ਨਾਚਤ ਭੂਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਬੇਤਾਲਾ ॥੧੧॥
naachat bhoot pret betaalaa |11|

And ghosts, ghosts and ghosts started dancing. 11.

ਝੂਮਿ ਝੂਮਿ ਕਹੀ ਗਿਰੇ ਧਰਿਨ ਭਟ ॥
jhoom jhoom kahee gire dharin bhatt |

Somewhere swinging heroes fell on the ground

ਜੁਦੇ ਜੁਦੇ ਕਹੀ ਅੰਗ ਪਰੇ ਕਟਿ ॥
jude jude kahee ang pare katt |

And somewhere (several) limbs were lying cut off.

ਚਲੀ ਸ੍ਰੋਨ ਕੀ ਨਦੀ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
chalee sron kee nadee biraajai |

The river of blood was flowing, seeing which Baitruni

ਬੈਤਰੁਨੀ ਜਿਨ ਕੋ ਲਖਿ ਲਾਜੈ ॥੧੨॥
baitarunee jin ko lakh laajai |12|

(Especially: According to the Puranas, a river filled with dirt, flowing north of Yama-loka, which is two yojanas wide and which according to Hinduism has to be crossed. A donated cow helps in such cases) was also ashamed.12 ॥

ਇਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਕੋਪੇ ॥
eih dis adhik devataa kope |

On this side, the gods were very angry

ਉਹਿ ਦਿਸਿ ਪਾਵ ਦਾਨਵਨ ਰੋਪੇ ॥
auhi dis paav daanavan rope |

And on that side the giants set foot.

ਕੁਪਿ ਕੁਪਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਹ੍ਰਿਦਨ ਮੋ ਭਿਰੇ ॥
kup kup adhik hridan mo bhire |

With fury in their hearts,
