ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਅਉਖਧੀ ਬਤਾਵਾ ॥੫॥
bhin bhin aaukhadhee bataavaa |5|

He disclosed the Vaidic Shastra and brought it before the people and described various medicines.5.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

DOHRA

ਰੋਗ ਰਹਤ ਕਰ ਅਉਖਧੀ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਜਹਾਨ ॥
rog rahat kar aaukhadhee sabh hee kariyo jahaan |

Administering the medicines to all the world, he made the world devoid of ailments,

ਕਾਲ ਪਾਇ ਤਛਕ ਹਨਿਯੋ ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਕੀਯੋ ਪਯਾਨ ॥੬॥
kaal paae tachhak haniyo sur pur keeyo payaan |6|

And departed for heaven after having been stung by Takshak (the king of snakes).6.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਧਨੰਤ੍ਰ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਸਤਾਰਵਾ ॥੧੭॥ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤ ॥

End of the description of the seventeenth incarnation named DHANANTAR in BACHITTAR NATAK.17.

ਅਥ ਸੂਰਜ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
ath sooraj avataar kathanan |

Now begins the description of the Suraj (Sun) Incarnation:

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੀ ਸਹਾਇ ॥
sree bhgautee jee sahaae |

Let Sri Bhagauti Ji (The Primal Lord) be helpful.

CHAUPAI

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਢੇ ਦਿਤਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੁਲਿ ਬਲਿ ॥
bahur badte dit putr atul bal |

Then the strength of the two sons (of the giants) increased,

ਅਰਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਜੀਤੇ ਜਿਨ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ॥
ar anek jeete jin jal thal |

The might of demos, the sons of Diti, increased very much and they conquered many enemies in water and on land.

ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀ ਆਗਯਾ ਪਾਈ ॥
kaal purakh kee aagayaa paaee |

(At that time) by obtaining the permission of the 'Kal-purukh'

ਰਵਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਈ ॥੧॥
rav avataar dhariyo har raaee |1|

Receiving the command of the Immanent Lord, Vishnu manifested himself as Suraj incarnation.1.

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਹੋਤ ਅਸੁਰ ਬਲਵਾਨਾ ॥
je je hot asur balavaanaa |

Those giants who are strong,

ਰਵਿ ਮਾਰਤ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਨਾ ॥
rav maarat tin ko bidh naanaa |

Wherever the demons become Lord, Vishnu manifested himself as Suraj incarnation kills them in different ways.

ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਧਰਨੀ ਤੇ ਹਰੇ ॥
andhakaar dharanee te hare |

Destroys darkness from the earth.

ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਕਾਜ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਪਰੇ ॥੨॥
prajaa kaaj grih ke utth pare |2|

The sun destroyed the darkness from the earth and in order to give comfort to the subjects, he used to roam hither and thither.2.

ਨਰਾਜ ਛੰਦ ॥
naraaj chhand |

NARAAJ STANZA

ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਆਲਸੰ ਸਭੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਲੋਗ ਜਾਗਹੀਂ ॥
bisaar aalasan sabhai prabhaat log jaagaheen |

All people wake up at dawn except laziness.

ਅਨੰਤ ਜਾਪ ਕੋ ਜਪੈਂ ਬਿਅੰਤ ਧਯਾਨ ਪਾਗਹੀਂ ॥
anant jaap ko japain biant dhayaan paagaheen |

(Seeing the Sun,) all the people abandoned idleness and woke up at dawn and meditating on the Omnipresent Lord, used to repeat His Name in various ways.

ਦੁਰੰਤ ਕਰਮ ਕੋ ਕਰੈਂ ਅਥਾਪ ਥਾਪ ਥਾਪਹੀਂ ॥
durant karam ko karain athaap thaap thaapaheen |

Do hard deeds and establish the untouchable in the heart.

ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੰਧਿਯਾਨ ਕੈ ਅਜਾਪ ਜਾਪ ਜਾਪਹੀ ॥੩॥
gaaeitree sandhiyaan kai ajaap jaap jaapahee |3|

Working on difficult jobs, they used to stablise in their mind the Uninstallable Lord and used to recite the Gyatri and Sandhya.3.

ਸੁ ਦੇਵ ਕਰਮ ਆਦਿ ਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਜਾਗ ਕੈ ਕਰੈਂ ॥
su dev karam aad lai prabhaat jaag kai karain |

Waking up at dawn (people) do deva-karma etc.

ਸੁ ਜਗ ਧੂਪ ਦੀਪ ਹੋਮ ਬੇਦ ਬਿਯਾਕਰਨ ਰਰੈਂ ॥
su jag dhoop deep hom bed biyaakaran rarain |

All the people, repeating the name of the Lord, used to perform godly deeds and also reflected on the Vedas and Vyakarna etc. alongwith the burning of incense, lighting the earthen lamps and performing Yajnas.

ਸੁ ਪਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਮ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਤੇ ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਤਬ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੋ ਕਰੈਂ ॥
su pitr karam hain jite so britabrit ko karain |

As many as there are patriarchal deeds, (they) are done methodically.

ਜੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਉਚਰੰਤ ਸੁ ਧਰਮ ਧਯਾਨ ਕੋ ਧਰੈਂ ॥੪॥
ju saasatr simrit ucharant su dharam dhayaan ko dharain |4|

They used to perform rituals for the manes according to their power and used to concentrate on virtuous actions alongwith the recitation of Shastras, Smritis etc.4.

ਅਰਧ ਨਿਰਾਜ ਛੰਦ ॥
aradh niraaj chhand |

ARDH NIRAAJ STANZA

ਸੁ ਧੂੰਮ ਧੂੰਮ ਹੀ ॥
su dhoonm dhoonm hee |

The smoke of incense is everywhere

ਕਰੰਤ ਸੈਨ ਭੂੰਮ ਹੀ ॥
karant sain bhoonm hee |

The smoke of Yajnas was visible on all the four sides and all the people slept on the earth.

ਬਿਅੰਤ ਧਯਾਨ ਧਯਾਵਹੀਂ ॥
biant dhayaan dhayaavaheen |

Endless people pay attention,

ਦੁਰੰਤ ਠਉਰ ਪਾਵਹੀਂ ॥੫॥
durant tthaur paavaheen |5|

Performing mediation and worship in many ways, they used to work for the growth of distant places.5.

ਅਨੰਤ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਉਚਰੈਂ ॥
anant mantr ucharain |

Anant chants mantras

ਸੁ ਜੋਗ ਜਾਪਨਾ ਕਰੈਂ ॥
su jog jaapanaa karain |

Reciting many mantras, the people performed Yogic discipline and repeated the Name.

ਨ੍ਰਿਬਾਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਧਯਾਵਹੀਂ ॥
nribaan purakh dhayaavaheen |

Nirban praises the Lord.

ਬਿਮਾਨ ਅੰਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੀਂ ॥੬॥
bimaan ant paavaheen |6|

They meditated on the Detached Supreme Purusha and ultimately they acquired the air-vehicles for transportation to heaven.6.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

DOHRA

ਬਹੁਤ ਕਾਲ ਇਮ ਬੀਤਯੋ ਕਰਤ ਧਰਮੁ ਅਰੁ ਦਾਨ ॥
bahut kaal im beetayo karat dharam ar daan |

A lot of time was spent in this way doing religion and charity.

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਅਸੁਰਿ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਦੀਰਘੁ ਕਾਇ ਦਤੁ ਮਾਨ ॥੭॥
bahur asur badtiyo prabal deeragh kaae dat maan |7|

In this way a good deal of time elapsed in performing religious and charitable actions and then a powerful demon named deeraghkaya was born.7.

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

CHAUPAI

ਬਾਣ ਪ੍ਰਜੰਤ ਬਢਤ ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਤਨ ॥
baan prajant badtat nitaprat tan |

His body grew as much as an arrow every day

ਨਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਘਾਤ ਕਰਤ ਦਿਜ ਦੇਵਨ ॥
nis din ghaat karat dij devan |

His body increased in length everyday by the length of an arrow and he destroyed the gods and twice-born night and day.

ਦੀਰਘੁ ਕਾਇਐ ਸੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਭਯੋ ॥
deeragh kaaeaai so rip bhayo |

Thus Dirgha-Kai (the eponymous monster of the Sun) became hostile,

ਰਵਿ ਰਥ ਹਟਕ ਚਲਨ ਤੇ ਗਯੋ ॥੮॥
rav rath hattak chalan te gayo |8|

On the birth of the enemy like deeraghkaya, even the chariot of the sun hesitated to move.8.

ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ARIL

ਹਟਕ ਚਲਤ ਰਥੁ ਭਯੋ ਭਾਨ ਕੋਪਿਯੋ ਤਬੈ ॥
hattak chalat rath bhayo bhaan kopiyo tabai |

When Surya's moving chariot got stuck, Surya got angry.

ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਦਲ ਸਭੈ ॥
asatr sasatr lai chaliyo sang lai dal sabhai |

When the chariot of the sun stopped moving, the sun, then in great fury, marched forward alongwith his arms, weapons and forces.

ਮੰਡਯੋ ਬਿਬਿਧ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਤਹਾ ਰਣ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
manddayo bibidh prakaar tahaa ran jaae kai |

He went to the battlefield and started the war in many ways,

ਹੋ ਨਿਰਖ ਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਦੈਤ ਰਹੇ ਉਰਝਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੯॥
ho nirakh dev ar dait rahe urajhaae kai |9|

He started various types of war seeing which both gods and demons, experienced a dilemma.9.

ਗਹਿ ਗਹਿ ਪਾਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣ ਦੁਬਹੀਯਾ ਰਣ ਭਿਰੇ ॥
geh geh paan kripaan dubaheeyaa ran bhire |

The warriors started fighting with swords in their hands.
