ਪੁਰਜੇ ਪੁਰਜੇ ਤਨ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਤੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥੧੮੧੭॥

The bodies have been penetrated and cut into parts, still the warriors are not uttering the word ‘alas’ from their mouths.1817.

ਜੇ ਭਟ ਆਇ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਿਰੇ ਨਹਿ ਸੰਕਿ ਪਧਾਰੇ ॥

The warriors who fought fearlessly and unhesitatingly in the battlefield and forsaking the attachment for their life, taking their weapons, they clashed with their opponents

ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਸਬੈ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਤਨ ਸਉਹੇ ਕਰੈ ਨਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

Those who in great fury, fought and died in the battlefield

ਰੋਸ ਭਰੇ ਜੋਊ ਜੂਝ ਮਰੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਰਰੇ ਸੁਰ ਲੋਗਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥

According to the poet, all of them went to abide in heaven

ਤੇ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹੈ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਸੁਰ ਧਾਮਿ ਬਸੇ ਬਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੧੮੧੮॥

They are all considering themselves fortunate because they have attained an abode in heave.1818.

ਏਕ ਅਯੋਧਨ ਮੈ ਭਟ ਯੌ ਅਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਰਿ ਕੈ ਲਰਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰੈ ॥

ਇਕ ਦੇਖ ਦਸਾ ਭਟ ਆਪਨ ਕੀ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਕੋਪ ਲਰੈ ॥

Some warriors fell on the earth while fighting and someone seeing this plight of the co-warriors, began to fight in great anger

ਤਬ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਹਕਾਰਿ ਪਰੈ ਘਨ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਸੋ ਆਇ ਅਰੈ ਨ ਟਰੈ ॥

And holding his weapons and challenging fell upon Krishna

ਤਜਿ ਸੰਕ ਲਰੈ ਰਨ ਮਾਝ ਮਰੈ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਬਰੰਗਨ ਜਾਇ ਬਰੈ ॥੧੮੧੯॥

The warriors fell as martyrs unhesitatingly and began to wed the heavenly damsels.1819.

ਇਕ ਜੂਝਿ ਪਰੈ ਇਕ ਦੇਖਿ ਡਰੈ ਇਕ ਤਉ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰੈ ॥

Someone died, someone fell and someone got infuriated

ਕਹਿ ਆਪਨੇ ਆਪਨੇ ਸਾਰਥੀ ਸੋ ਸੁ ਧਵਾਇ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਯੰਦਨ ਆਇ ਅਰੈ ॥

The warriors are resisting one another, getting their chariots driven by their charioteers

ਤਲਵਾਰ ਕਟਾਰਨ ਸੰਗ ਲਰੈ ਅਤਿ ਸੰਗਰ ਮੋ ਨਹਿ ਸੰਕ ਧਰੈ ॥

They are fighting fearlessly with their swords and daggers

ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਟਰੈ ॥੧੮੨੦॥

They are even confronting Krishna fearlessly shouting “kill, kill”.1820.

ਜਬ ਯੌ ਭਟ ਆਵਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਤਉ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥

ਕੋਪ ਬਢਾਇ ਚਿਤੈ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਇਕ ਬਾਰ ਹੀ ਬੈਰਨ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਝਾਰੇ ॥

Seeing the warriors coming in front of him, Krishna held his weapons and getting enraed, he showered arrows on the enemies

ਏਕ ਹਨੇ ਅਰਿ ਪਾਇਨ ਸੋ ਇਕ ਦਾਇਨ ਸੋ ਗਹਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਛਾਰੇ ॥

He crushed some of them under his feet and knocked down some others catching them his hands

ਤਾਹੀ ਸਮੈ ਤਿਹ ਆਹਵ ਮੈ ਬਹੁ ਸੂਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਨ ਡਾਰੇ ॥੧੮੨੧॥

He made many warriors lifeless in the battlefield.1821.

ਏਕ ਲਗੇ ਭਟ ਘਾਇਨ ਕੇ ਤਜਿ ਦੇਹ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਗਏ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਘਰਿ ॥

Many warriors, getting wounded, went to the abode of Yama

ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅੰਗ ਸੁ ਏਕਨਿ ਕੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਰਹੇ ਸ੍ਰੋਨਤ ਸੋ ਭਰਿ ॥

The elegant limbs of many were filled with blood, having their heads chopped

ਏਕ ਕਬੰਧ ਫਿਰੈ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਨਾਇਕ ਸੀਸ ਕਟੇ ਬਰ ॥

Many warriors are roaming as headless trunks in the field

ਏਕ ਸੁ ਸੰਕਤਿ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਆਹਵ ਕੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤੀਰ ਗਏ ਡਰਿ ॥੧੮੨੨॥

Many getting afraid of war, forsaking it, reached before the king.1822.

ਭਾਜਿ ਤਬੈ ਭਟ ਆਹਵ ਤੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਭੂਪ ਪੈ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਐਸੇ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ॥

ਜੇਤੇ ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ਪਠੇ ਤੁਮ ਰਾਜ ਗਏ ਹਰਿ ਪੈ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਸੰਭਾਰੇ ॥

All the warriors, abandoning the war, reached before the king and said, “o king! all the warriors whom you sent bedecked with weapons,

ਜੀਤ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਸਕੇ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਹਮ ਤੋ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਬਲ ਕੈ ਰਨ ਹਾਰੇ ॥

“They have been defeated and none of us had been victorious

ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਸੁ ਤਾਨ ਕੈ ਪਾਨਿ ਸਬੈ ਤਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥੧੮੨੩॥

With the discharge of his arrows, he has made all of them lifeless.”1823.

ਇਉ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਉ ਭਟ ਬੋਲ ਕਹੈ ਹਮਰੀ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੂ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥

The warriors said like this to the king, “O King! listen to our request

ਆਹਵ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਨ ਸਉਪ ਚਲੋ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਕੋ ਸਿਗਰੇ ਪੁਰ ਕੋ ਸੁਖ ਦੀਜੈ ॥

Return to your home, authorizing the ministers for the conduct of war, and bestow comfort on all the citizens

ਆਜ ਲਉ ਲਾਜ ਰਹੀ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਸਮ ਜੁਧੁ ਭਯੋ ਅਜੋ ਬੀਰ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ॥

“Your honour has remained there till today and you have not confronted Krishna

ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਤੇ ਜੁਧ ਕੀ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਹੂ ਮੈ ਜੀਤ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੧੮੨੪॥

We cannot hope for victory even in our dream while fighting with Krishna.”1824.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

DOHRA

ਜਰਾਸੰਧਿ ਏ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਰਿਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੋਲਿਯੋ ਬੈਨ ॥

ਸਕਲ ਸੁਭਟ ਹਰਿ ਕਟਿਕ ਕੈ ਪਠਵੋਂ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਐਨਿ ॥੧੮੨੫॥

Hearing these words, Jarasandh became angry and said, “I shall dispatch all the warriors of Krishna’s army to the abode of Yama.1825.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਕਾ ਭਯੋ ਜੋ ਮਘਵਾ ਬਲਵੰਡ ਹੈ ਆਜ ਹਉ ਤਾਹੀ ਸੋ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚੈਹੋਂ ॥

“If even Indra comes today with full force, I shall fight also with him

ਭਾਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਕਹਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਹਨਿ ਤਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਹਉ ਜਮ ਧਾਮਿ ਪਠੈਹੋਂ ॥

Surya considers himself very powerful, I shall fight also with him and dispatch him to the abode of Yama

ਅਉ ਜੁ ਕਹਾ ਸਿਵ ਮੋ ਬਲੁ ਹੈ ਮਰਿ ਹੈ ਪਲ ਮੈ ਜਬ ਕੋਪ ਬਢੈਹੋਂ ॥

“The powerful Shiva will also be destroyed before my fury

ਪਉਰਖ ਰਾਖਤ ਹਉ ਇਤਨੋ ਕਹਾ ਭੂਪ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗੂਜਰ ਤੇ ਭਜਿ ਜੈਹੋਂ ॥੧੮੨੬॥

I have so much strength, then should I, a king, run away now before a milkman?”1826.

ਇਉ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਪ ਭਰਿਓ ਚਤੁਰੰਗ ਚਮੂੰ ਜੁ ਹੁਤੀ ਸੁ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥

Saying thus, the king in great anger addressed the four divisions of his army

ਆਇ ਹੈ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਸਬੈ ਸੰਗ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਮਚਾਵਨ ਕਾਜ ਲਰਾਈ ॥

The whole army got ready to fight with Krishna, holding the weapons

ਛਤ੍ਰ ਤਨਾਇ ਕੈ ਪੀਛੇ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੈਨ ਸਬੈ ਤਿਹ ਆਗੇ ਸਿਧਾਈ ॥

The army moved in front and the king followed it

ਮਾਨਹੁ ਪਾਵਸ ਕੀ ਰਿਤੁ ਮੈ ਘਨਘੋਰ ਘਟਾ ਘੁਰ ਕੈ ਉਮਡਾਈ ॥੧੮੨੭॥

This spectacle appeared like the thick clouds rushing forward in rainy season.1827.

ਭੂਪ ਬਾਚ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ॥

Speech of the king addressed to Krishna:

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

DOHRA

ਭੂਪ ਤਬੈ ਹਰਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਕੈ ਐਸੋ ਕਹਿਓ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਗੁਆਰ ਛਤ੍ਰੀਨ ਸੋ ਜੂਝ ਕਰੈਗੋ ਆਇ ॥੧੮੨੮॥

Then looking at Krishna, the king said, “How will you fight with Kshatriyas being only a milkman?”1828.

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬਾਚ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੋ ॥

Speech of Krishna addressed to the king:

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਛਤ੍ਰੀ ਕਹਾਵਤ ਆਪਨ ਕੋ ਭਜਿ ਹੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਜਬ ਜੁਧ ਮਚੈਹੋਂ ॥

“You call yourself a Kshatrya, I shall wage a war with you and you will run away
