ਡਾਰਿ ਦਏ ਘਟ ਮੌ ਕਰ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ॥੨॥
ddaar de ghatt mau kar geh kai |2|So he picked it up with his hand and put it in the pot. 2.
ਊਪਰ ਜਲ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤਰ ਭੂਖਨ ॥
aoopar jal taa ke tar bhookhan |Above was water and below it were jewels.
ਕਿਨੂੰ ਨ ਨਰ ਸਮਝ੍ਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਦੂਖਨ ॥
kinoo na nar samajhayo tih dookhan |But no one could understand this charge (of theft).
ਬਹੁ ਪੁਰਖਨ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਜਲ ਪੀਆ ॥
bahu purakhan taa ko jal peea |Many people drank water from him,
ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਜਾਨਿ ਭੇਦ ਨਹਿ ਲੀਆ ॥੩॥
kinahoon jaan bhed neh leea |3|But no one could understand the difference. 3.
ਰਾਨੀਹੂੰ ਤਿਹ ਘਟਹਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
raaneehoon tih ghatteh nihaaraa |Rani also saw that pot
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਤਰ ਸੁ ਨਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
drisatt nripat kee tar su nikaaraa |And also passed through the eyes of the king.
ਕਾਹੂੰ ਬਾਤ ਲਖੀ ਨਹਿ ਗਈ ॥
kaahoon baat lakhee neh gee |Nothing was understood from anyone.
ਭੂਖਨ ਜਾਤ ਨਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਈ ॥੪॥
bhookhan jaat naar har bhee |4|(Thus he) stole the woman's jewels. 4.

ਬਿਰਹਾਵਤੀ ਨਗਰ ਇਕ ਦਛਿਨ ॥
birahaavatee nagar ik dachhin |To the south is a town called Birhavati.
ਬਿਰਹ ਸੈਨ ਤਿਹ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਬਿਚਛਨ ॥
birah sain tih nripat bichachhan |There was a wise king (of the place) named Birh Sen.
ਬਿਰਹਾ ਦੇਇ ਸਦਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
birahaa dee sadan meh baalaa |(In his) house was a woman named Birh Dei,
ਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਖਰ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੀ ਜ੍ਵਾਲਾ ॥੧॥
jan kar sikhar agan kee jvaalaa |1|Which is like a flame of fire. 1.
ਇਸਕਾ ਦੇ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਤਾ ਭਨਿਜੈ ॥
eisakaa de tih sutaa bhanijai |He was said to have a daughter named Iska (Dei).
ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰ ਜਿਹ ਸਮ ਛਬਿ ਦਿਜੈ ॥
chand soor jih sam chhab dijai |Whose image was likened to sun and moon.
ਅਵਰ ਨਾਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਸਮ ਨਹਿ ਕੋਈ ॥
avar naar tih sam neh koee |There was no other woman like her.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥
triy kee upamaa kah triy soee |2|That woman was like herself. 2.
ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤਨ ਐਸੀ ॥
sundarataa taa ke tan aaisee |Such was the beauty of her body
ਸਚੀ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਤੈਸੀ ॥
sachee paarabatee hoe na taisee |That even Sachi and Parbati was not like her (in beauty).
ਮਾਲੁਮ ਸਕਲ ਜਗਤ ਉਜਿਯਾਰੀ ॥
maalum sakal jagat ujiyaaree |She was famous all over the world as a beauty.
ਜਛ ਗਾਧ੍ਰਬੀ ਭੀਤਰ ਪ੍ਯਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
jachh gaadhrabee bheetar payaaree |3|(She) was also loved by Yakshas and Gandharvas. 3.
ਕੰਚਨ ਸੈਨ ਦੈਤ ਤਹ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
kanchan sain dait tah bhaaro |There lived a giant called Kanchan Sen.
ਬੀਰਜਮਾਨ ਦੁਤਿਮਾਨ ਕਰਾਰੋ ॥
beerajamaan dutimaan karaaro |(He was) very strong, handsome and sharp.
ਨਿਹਕੰਟਕ ਅਸੁਰਾਨ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਜਿਨ ॥
nihakanttak asuraan kariyo jin |He made all the demons nishkantaka (free from suffering).
ਸਮੁਹਿ ਭਯੋ ਸੋ ਬਲੀ ਹਨ੍ਯੋ ਤਿਨ ॥੪॥
samuhi bhayo so balee hanayo tin |4|Whoever was strong in front of him, killed him. 4.
ਤਿਹ ਪੁਰ ਅਰਧਿ ਰਾਤਿ ਵਹ ਆਵੈ ॥
tih pur aradh raat vah aavai |He used to come to that town at midnight
ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਭਖਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
ek purakh nitaprat bhakh jaavai |And would eat a human every day.
ਸਭਹਿਨ ਸੋਚ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਜਿਯ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ॥
sabhahin soch badtiyo jiy mai at |There was a lot of worry in everyone's mind.
ਬੈਠਿ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਤ ਭੇ ਸੁਭ ਮਤਿ ॥੫॥
baitth bichaar karat bhe subh mat |5|(All) the wise sit and think. 5.
ਇਹ ਰਾਛਸ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਬਲਵਾਨਾ ॥
eih raachhas at hee balavaanaa |This monster is very strong
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਭਖਤ ਰੈਨਿ ਦਿਨ ਨਾਨਾ ॥
maanukh bhakhat rain din naanaa |Who eats many people day and night.
ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਕਰਤ ਕਾਹੂ ਨਹਿ ਜਨ ਕੌ ॥
traas karat kaahoo neh jan kau |He does not fear anyone
ਨਿਰਭੈ ਫਿਰਤ ਹੋਤ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਕੌ ॥੬॥
nirabhai firat hot kar man kau |6|And he meditates fearlessly in his mind. 6.
ਬੇਸ੍ਵਾ ਹੁਤੀ ਏਕ ਪੁਰ ਤਵਨੈ ॥
besvaa hutee ek pur tavanai |There lived a prostitute in that town.
ਦਾਨਵ ਖਾਤ ਮਨੁਖ ਭੂਅ ਜਵਨੈ ॥
daanav khaat manukh bhooa javanai |Where the giants used to eat the people of the land.
ਸੋ ਅਬਲਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਪਹ ਆਈ ॥
so abalaa raajaa pah aaee |That woman (prostitute) came to the king
ਨਿਰਖ ਰਾਵ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਲੁਭਾਈ ॥੭॥
nirakh raav kee prabhaa lubhaaee |7|And seeing the beauty of the king, she became fascinated.7.
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਤਨ ਬੈਨਾ ॥
eih bidh kahiyo nripat tan bainaa |He spoke thus to the king
ਜੌ ਤੁਮ ਮੁਹਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਨਿਜੁ ਐਨਾ ॥
jau tum muhi raakhahu nij aainaa |That if you keep me in your palace
ਤੌ ਹੌ ਮਾਰਿ ਅਸੁਰ ਕਹ ਆਵੌ ॥
tau hau maar asur kah aavau |So I will kill the giant
ਯਾ ਪੁਰ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਸੋਕ ਮਿਟਾਵੌ ॥੮॥
yaa pur ko sabh sok mittaavau |8|And will remove all the sorrow of this city. 8.
ਤਬ ਮੈ ਬਰੌ ਤੋਹਿ ਕੌ ਧਾਮਾ ॥
tab mai barau tohi kau dhaamaa |(Answered the king) Then I will carry you home,
ਜਬ ਤੈ ਹਨ ਅਸੁਰ ਕਹ ਬਾਮਾ ॥
jab tai han asur kah baamaa |O woman! When you kill the giant
ਦੇਸ ਸਭੈ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਗ ਬਸੈ ਸੁਖ ॥
des sabhai ar log basai sukh |The country and all the people will live happily
ਮਿਟੈ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਕੇ ਚਿਤ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਦੁਖ ॥੯॥
mittai prajaa ke chit ko sabh dukh |9|And all the sorrows of the people's minds will be removed. 9.
ਬਲੀ ਆਠ ਸੈ ਮਹਿਖ ਮੰਗਾਯੋ ॥
balee aatth sai mahikh mangaayo |(That woman) asked for eight hundred strong lashes
