ਸ੍ਵੈਯਾ ॥
svaiyaa |SWAYYA
ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਕੇ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਉਦਾਸ ਅਵਾਸ ਕੋ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਬਸਿਓ ਬਨਿ ਰਾਈ ॥
traas kuttanb ke hue kai udaas avaas ko tiaag basio ban raaee |Dejected on account of the tragic happening in the family, he deserted his home and came to live in the forest.
ਨਾਮ ਸੁਰਥ ਮੁਨੀਸਰ ਬੇਖ ਸਮੇਤ ਸਮਾਦਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥
naam surath muneesar bekh samet samaad samaadh lagaaee |His name was Surath and adopting the garb of sages, he engaged himself in contemplation.
ਚੰਡ ਅਖੰਡ ਖੰਡੇ ਕਰ ਕੋਪ ਭਈ ਸੁਰ ਰਛਨ ਕੋ ਸਮੁਹਾਈ ॥
chandd akhandd khandde kar kop bhee sur rachhan ko samuhaaee |The goddess Chandika of perfect brilliance is there before all, She is the destroyer of demons and Protector of gods.
ਬੂਝਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਨੈ ਤੁਮ ਸਾਧ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਕਥਾ ਕਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥੭॥
boojhahu jaae tinai tum saadh agaadh kathaa kih bhaat sunaaee |7|The sage Surath told his companion sage, “O hermit, try to comprehend now, what his marvelous story it is?”7.

ਮੁਨੀਸੁਰੋਵਾਚ ॥
muneesurovaach |The Great Sage said:
ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੈ ਸਜਿ ਸੈਨ ਤਹਾ ॥
har soe rahai saj sain tahaa |
ਜਲ ਜਾਲ ਕਰਾਲ ਬਿਸਾਲ ਜਹਾ ॥
jal jaal karaal bisaal jahaa |The Lord was sleeping on an adorned bed, within the terrible and vast expanse of water.
ਭਯੋ ਨਾਭਿ ਸਰੋਜ ਤੇ ਬਿਸੁ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
bhayo naabh saroj te bis karataa |
ਸ੍ਰੁਤ ਮੈਲ ਤੇ ਦੈਤ ਰਚੇ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥੮॥
srut mail te dait rache jugataa |8|From His navel-lotus Brahma was born, with some device, the demons were created from the dross of His ear.8.
ਮਧੁ ਕੈਟਭ ਨਾਮ ਧਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ॥
madh kaittabh naam dhare tin ke |
ਅਤਿ ਦੀਰਘ ਦੇਹ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ॥
at deeragh deh bhe jin ke |They were named as Madhu and Kaitabh, their bodies were enormously great.
ਤਿਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਲੁਕੇਸ ਡਰਿਓ ਹੀਅ ਮੈ ॥
tin dekh lukes ddario heea mai |
ਜਗ ਮਾਤ ਕੋ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਜੀਅ ਮੈ ॥੯॥
jag maat ko dhiaan dhariyo jeea mai |9|Seeing them, Brahma became fearful, He contemplated in his mind on the universal mother.9.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਛੁਟੀ ਚੰਡਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਰਿਓ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਸਾਜੁ ॥
chhuttee chandd jaagai braham kario judh ko saaj |When the Lord Vishnu awoke from sleep, he made preparations for war.
ਦੈਤ ਸਭੈ ਘਟਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਜਿਉ ਬਢੈ ਦੇਵਤਨ ਰਾਜ ॥੧੦॥
dait sabhai ghatt jaeh jiau badtai devatan raaj |10|So that the demons may decrease in number and the rule of gods be increased.10.

ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿਓ ਤਿਨ ਸੋ ਭਗਵੰਤਿ ਨ ਮਾਰ ਸਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਦੈਤ ਬਲੀ ਹੈ ॥
judh kario tin so bhagavant na maar sakai at dait balee hai |The Lord waged the war against the demons, but He could not kill them because they were very brave.
ਸਾਲ ਭਏ ਤਿਨ ਪੰਚ ਹਜਾਰ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਲਰਤੇ ਨਹਿ ਬਾਹ ਟਲੀ ਹੈ ॥
saal bhe tin panch hajaar duhoon larate neh baah ttalee hai |It took five thousand years in fighting, but they were not tired.
ਦੈਤਨ ਰੀਝ ਕਹਿਓ ਬਰ ਮਾਗ ਕਹਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਸੀਸਨ ਦੇਹੁ ਭਲੀ ਹੈ ॥
daitan reejh kahio bar maag kahio har seesan dehu bhalee hai |Having been pleased with the power of the Lord, the demons asked the Lord to request for a boon, the Lord asked them to surrender their bodies.
ਧਾਰਿ ਉਰੂ ਪਰਿ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਸੋ ਕਾਟ ਕੈ ਜੋਤ ਲੈ ਆਪਨੈ ਅੰਗਿ ਮਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
dhaar uroo par chakr so kaatt kai jot lai aapanai ang malee hai |11|Putting them in his lap, the Lord cut off their heads and assimilated their strength within Himself.11.
ਸੋਰਠਾ ॥

ਦੇਵਨ ਥਾਪਿਓ ਰਾਜ ਮਧੁ ਕੈਟਭ ਕੋ ਮਾਰ ਕੈ ॥
devan thaapio raaj madh kaittabh ko maar kai |The Lord established the rule of gods after killing Madhu and Kaitabh.
ਦੀਨੋ ਸਕਲ ਸਮਾਜ ਬੈਕੁੰਠਗਾਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਭਏ ॥੧੨॥
deeno sakal samaaj baikuntthagaamee har bhe |12|He gave all the paraphernalia to them and Himself went to Heaven.12.
