ਨਿਜੁ ਪ੍ਯਾਰੇ ਬਿਨ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਗਯੋ ॥
nij payaare bin rahiyo na gayo |(He) was not left without his beloved
ਘਾਲਿ ਸੰਦੂਕਹਿ ਸਾਥ ਚਲਯੋ ॥੮॥
ghaal sandookeh saath chalayo |8|And put him in the chest and took him with him. 8.
ਨਿਸੁ ਦਿਨ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
nis din taa sau bhog kamaavai |Night and day she used to combine with him.
ਸੋਵਤ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
sovat rahai na bhoopat paavai |The king would be asleep and unable to distinguish.
ਏਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
ek divas jab hee nrip jaagaa |One day when the king woke up
ਰਨਿਯਹਿ ਛੋਰਿ ਜਾਰ ਉਠਿ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੯॥
raniyeh chhor jaar utth bhaagaa |9|So the man had to leave the queen and run away. 9.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸੌ ਬਚਨ ਕੋਪ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਖਿਯੋ ॥
triy sau bachan kop kar bhaakhiyo |(The king) got angry and said to the queen
ਤੈ ਲੈ ਜਾਰ ਧਾਮ ਕਿਮਿ ਰਾਖਿਯੋ ॥
tai lai jaar dhaam kim raakhiyo |How are you keeping your friend at home?
ਕੈ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਮੁਹਿ ਬਾਤ ਬਤਾਵੌ ॥
kai ab hee muhi baat bataavau |Either tell me (the whole thing) now,
ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਨ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਚੁਕਾਵੌ ॥੧੦॥
kai praanan kee aas chukaavau |10|Otherwise, end the hope of souls. 10.
ਬਾਤ ਸਤ੍ਯ ਜਾਨੀ ਜਿਯ ਰਾਨੀ ॥
baat satay jaanee jiy raanee |The queen knew the truth in her heart
ਮੁਝੈ ਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਛਾਡਤ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
mujhai na nrip chhaaddat abhimaanee |That (now) the proud king will not leave me.
ਭਾਗ ਘੋਟਨਾ ਹਾਥ ਸੰਭਾਰਾ ॥
bhaag ghottanaa haath sanbhaaraa |(He) held in his hand a hemp-crushing stick
ਫੋਰਿ ਨਰਾਧਿਪ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਡਾਰਾ ॥੧੧॥
for naraadhip ke sir ddaaraa |11|And killed the king and tore off his head. 11.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਸਭਨ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
bahur sabhan ih bhaat sunaaee |(The queen) then called the people of the entire nation
ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਲੋਗ ਜਬ ਲਏ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥
prajaa log jab le bulaaee |All told thus,
ਮਦ ਕਰਿ ਭੂਪ ਭਯੋ ਮਤਵਾਰਾ ॥
mad kar bhoop bhayo matavaaraa |The king became drunk after drinking alcohol
ਪਹਿਲ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਾ ॥੧੨॥
pahil putr ko naam uchaaraa |12|And began to take the name of the first son. 12.
ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਲਯੋ ॥
mritak putr ko naameh layo |Taking the dead son's name
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਦੁਖਾਤੁਰ ਭਯੋ ॥
taa te adhik dukhaatur bhayo |(He) became anxious.
ਸੋਕ ਤਾਪ ਕੋ ਅਧਿਕ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
sok taap ko adhik bichaaraa |By pondering over the pain of grief
ਮੂੰਡ ਫੋਰਿ ਭੀਤਨ ਸੌ ਡਾਰਾ ॥੧੩॥
moondd for bheetan sau ddaaraa |13|He hit his head against the walls and tore it. 13.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਨਿਜੁ ਨਾਯਕ ਹਨਾ ਲੀਨਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਚਾਇ ॥
eih chhal nij naayak hanaa leenaa mitr bachaae |Killed her husband with this trick and saved her friend.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਭੋਗ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਕਰੋ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਛਲ ਪਾਇ ॥੧੪॥
bahur bhog taa sau karo ko na sakaa chhal paae |14|Then indulged with him, but no one could see his trick. 14.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਤੀਨ ਸੌ ਉਨਾਸੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੩੭੯॥੬੮੩੨॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਏਕ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੈਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਰ ॥
ek charitr sain raajaa bar |There was a good king named Charitra Sena.
ਨਾਰਿ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਤੀ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਘਰ ॥
naar charitr matee taa ke ghar |In his house there was a queen named Charitra Mati.
ਵਤੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਗਰੀ ॥
vatee charitraa taa kee nagaree |His character was Nagri
ਤਿਹੂੰ ਭਵਨ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਉਜਗਰੀ ॥੧॥
tihoon bhavan ke beech ujagaree |1|Who was famous among the three people. 1.
ਗੋਪੀ ਰਾਇ ਸਾਹ ਸੁਤ ਇਕ ਤਹ ॥
gopee raae saah sut ik tah |Gopi Rai Shah had a son there
ਜਿਹ ਸਮ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦੁਤਿਯ ਨ ਜਗ ਮਹ ॥
jih sam sundar dutiy na jag mah |Like whom there was no one else in the beautiful world.
ਤਿਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਦੇ ਨੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
tih charitr de nain nihaariyo |He was seen with the eyes of Charitra (the Goddess).
ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਤਿਹ ਮਦਨ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨॥
ang ang tih madan prajaariyo |2|So Kam Dev burnt his limbs. 2.
ਜਿਹ ਤਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਿਹ ਲਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
jih tih bidh tih layo bulaae |Like how he was called
ਉਠਤ ਲਯੋ ਛਤਿਯਾ ਸੌ ਲਾਇ ॥
autthat layo chhatiyaa sau laae |And raised it to the chest.
ਕਾਮ ਕੇਲ ਕੀਨੋ ਰੁਚਿ ਠਾਨੀ ॥
kaam kel keeno ruch tthaanee |Worked with him with interest
ਕੇਲ ਕਰਤ ਸਭ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
kel karat sabh rain bihaanee |3|And the whole night was spent doing Rati-Kreeda. 3.
ਪੋਸਤ ਭਾਗ ਅਫੀਮ ਮੰਗਾਈ ॥
posat bhaag afeem mangaaee |Poppy, Hemp and Opium for demand
ਏਕ ਸੇਜ ਚੜਿ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਚੜਾਈ ॥
ek sej charr duhoon charraaee |And sitting on the same sedge, both of them climbed.
ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਤਨ ਕਿਯੇ ਬਿਲਾਸਾ ॥
bhaat anik tan kiye bilaasaa |Fear of parents
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਾਸਾ ॥੪॥
maat pitaa ko man na traasaa |4|Indulged in many ways. 4.
ਤਬ ਲਗਿ ਆਇ ਗਯੋ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਪਤਿ ॥
tab lag aae gayo taa kau pat |By then her husband came.
ਡਾਰਿ ਦਯੋ ਸੇਜਾ ਤਰ ਉਪ ਪਤਿ ॥
ddaar dayo sejaa tar up pat |(The woman) put the sub-husband (i.e. husband) long under the sedge.
ਦੁਪਟਾ ਡਾਰਿ ਦਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਮੁਖ ਪਰ ॥
dupattaa ddaar dayo tih mukh par |Put a dupatta on his face,
ਜਾਨ੍ਯੋ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਨਰ ॥੫॥
jaanayo jaae na taa te triy nar |5|(By which it) could not be known (whether she is) a woman or a man. 5.
ਸੋਵਤ ਕਵਨ ਸੇਜ ਪਰ ਤੋਰੀ ॥
sovat kavan sej par toree |(The king came and asked) who is sleeping on your bed.
