ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥
savaiyaa |SWAYYA
ਆਵਤ ਕੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਬਸੁਦੇਵਹਿ ਰੂਪ ਸਜੇ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
aavat ko sun kai basudeveh roop saje apune tan naaree |
ਗਾਵਤ ਗੀਤ ਬਜਾਵਤ ਤਾਲਿ ਦਿਵਾਵਤਿ ਆਵਤ ਨਾਗਰਿ ਗਾਰੀ ॥
gaavat geet bajaavat taal divaavat aavat naagar gaaree |Hearing the arrival of Vasudev, all the bedecked women began to sing in tune and showered satires on the coming marriage party
ਕੋਠਨ ਪੈ ਨਿਰਖੈ ਚੜਿ ਤਾਸਨਿ ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਜੀਅ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
kotthan pai nirakhai charr taasan taa chhab kee upamaa jeea dhaaree |
ਬੈਠਿ ਬਿਵਾਨ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਮੇਤ ਸੁ ਦੇਖਤ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੀ ਮਹਤਾਰੀ ॥੨੭॥
baitth bivaan kuttanb samet su dekhat devan kee mahataaree |27|The poet, mentioning the beauty of the women seeing from their roofs said that they appeared like the mothers of the gods seeing the marriage party from their airvehicles.27.
ਕਬਿਤੁ ॥

ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਆਇਓ ਰਾਜੈ ਮੰਡਲ ਬਨਾਇਓ ਮਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਆਨਨ ਨਿਰਖ ਕੈ ॥
baasudev aaeio raajai manddal banaaeio man mahaa sukh paaeio taa ko aanan nirakh kai |On the arrival of Vasudev, the king got the pavilion constructed, and he was very much pleased on seeing his beautiful face
ਸੁਗੰਧਿ ਲਗਾਯੋ ਰਾਗ ਗਾਇਨਨ ਗਾਯੋ ਤਿਸੈ ਬਹੁਤ ਦਿਵਾਯੋ ਬਰ ਲਿਆਯੋ ਜੋ ਪਰਖ ਕੈ ॥
sugandh lagaayo raag gaaeinan gaayo tisai bahut divaayo bar liaayo jo parakh kai |The fragrances were sprinkled on all the songs were sung and consul who had approved the selection, was greatly awarded
ਛਾਤੀ ਹਾਥ ਲਾਯੋ ਸੀਸ ਨਿਆਯੋ ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਨ ਤਬੈ ਆਦਰ ਪਠਾਯੋ ਪੂਜ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਹਰਖ ਕੈ ॥
chhaatee haath laayo sees niaayo ugrasain tabai aadar patthaayo pooj man mai harakh kai |Ugarsain worshipped the match by putting his hand on his breast, joyfully bowing his head and getting pleased in his mind
ਭਯੋ ਜਨੁ ਮੰਗਨ ਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰ ਬਾਦਰ ਸੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਨ ਗਯੋ ਕੰਚਨ ਬਰਖ ਕੈ ॥੨੮॥
bhayo jan mangan na bhoom par baadar so raajaa ugrasain gayo kanchan barakh kai |28|At this time the king Ugarsain appeared like the heavenly cloud showering gold, he gave in charity innumerable gold coins to the beggars.28.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |DOHRA
ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਨ ਤਬ ਕੰਸ ਕੋ ਲਯੋ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
augrasain tab kans ko layo hajoor bulaae |
ਕਹਿਓ ਸਾਥ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਦੇਹੁ ਭੰਡਾਰੁ ਖੁਲਾਇ ॥੨੯॥
kahio saath tum jaae kai dehu bhanddaar khulaae |29|Then Ugarsain called Kansa near him and said, “Go and open the doors of the stores for charity.”29.
ਅਉਰ ਸਮਗਰੀ ਅੰਨ ਕੀ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
aaur samagaree an kee lai jaa taa ke paas |
ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਨਾਮੁ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਤਬੈ ਇਉ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੩੦॥
kar pranaam taa ko tabai iau kariyo aradaas |30|Bringing the materials like corn etc. and bowing down, he requested Vasudev thus.30.
ਕਾਲ ਰਾਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਬ੍ਯਾਹ ਹੈ ਕੰਸਹਿ ਕਹੀ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥
kaal raatr ko bayaah hai kanseh kahee sunaae |
ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ ਕਹੀ ਭਲੀ ਜੁ ਤੁਮੈ ਸੁਹਾਇ ॥੩੧॥
baasudev purohit kahee bhalee ju tumai suhaae |31|Kansa said, “The marriage has been fixed for the night of Amavas (the dark night) ” on this the priest of Vasudev gave his acceptance saying “as you please”.31.
ਕੰਸ ਕਹਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਰਿ ਤਬ ਸਬੈ ਬਾਤ ਕੋ ਭੇਵ ॥
kans kahio kar jor tab sabai baat ko bhev |
ਸਾਧਿ ਸਾਧਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਅਸ ਮਾਨੀ ਬਸੁਦੇਵ ॥੩੨॥
saadh saadh panddit kahiyo as maanee basudev |32|Then coming on this side, Kansa with folded hands related all the happenings and when the Pundits came to know that the people of vasudev had accepted the date and time of wedding, then all gave their blessings to him within their minds.32.
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਰਾਤਿ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਭਈ ਅਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਭਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਰਾਤਿ ਤਬੈ ਚੜਿ ਆਏ ॥
raat biteet bhee ar praat bhee fir raat tabai charr aae |
ਛਾਡਿ ਦਏ ਹਥਿ ਫੂਲ ਹਜਾਰ ਦੋ ਊਭੁਚ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਧਰ ਐਸਿ ਫਿਰਾਏ ॥
chhaadd de hath fool hajaar do aoobhuch prayodhar aais firaae |The night passed, the day dawned and again the night fell and then during that night, the fireworks were displayed, scattering the colour of thousands of flowers
ਅਉਰ ਹਵਾਈ ਚਲੀ ਨਭ ਕੋ ਉਪਮਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥
aaur havaaee chalee nabh ko upamaa tin kee kab sayaam sunaae |
ਦੇਖਹਿ ਕਉਤਕ ਦੇਵ ਸਬੈ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਮਨੋ ਕਾਗਦ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਠਾਏ ॥੩੩॥
dekheh kautak dev sabai tih te mano kaagad kott patthaae |33|Seeing the flying fireworks in the sky, the poet Shyam says this figuratively that it appear to him that the gods were flying the citadels of paper in the sky, seeing this miracle.33.
ਲੈ ਬਸੁਦੇਵ ਕੋ ਅਗ੍ਰ ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ ਕੰਸਹਿ ਕੇ ਚਲਿ ਧਾਮ ਗਏ ਹੈ ॥
lai basudev ko agr purohit kanseh ke chal dhaam ge hai |
ਆਗੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਰਿ ਭਈ ਇਕ ਲੇਹਿਸ ਗਾਗਰ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਡਾਰਿ ਦਏ ਹੈ ॥
aage te naar bhee ik lehis gaagar panddit ddaar de hai |The priests taking Vasudev with them, are going towards the home of Kansa and seeing a beautiful woman in front of them, the Pundits caused her metallic pitcher to fall
ਡਾਰਿ ਦਏ ਲਡੂਆ ਗਹਿ ਝਾਟਨਿ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸੋਊ ਵੇ ਤੋ ਭਛ ਗਏ ਹੈ ॥
ddaar de laddooaa geh jhaattan taa ko soaoo ve to bhachh ge hai |
ਜਾਦਵ ਬੰਸ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਦਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਅਨੇਕਿਕ ਹਾਸ ਭਏ ਹੈ ॥੩੪॥
jaadav bans duhoon dis te sun kai su anekik haas bhe hai |34|From which the sweetmeats have fallen out with a jerk they have taken up and eaten these sweetmeats knowing all about it, both the sides of Yadava clan have been ridiculed in various ways.34.
ਕਬਿਤੁ ॥

ਗਾਵਤ ਬਜਾਵਤ ਸੁ ਗਾਰਨ ਦਿਵਾਖਤ ਆਵਤ ਸੁਹਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਮੰਦ ਮੰਦ ਗਾਵਤੀ ॥
gaavat bajaavat su gaaran divaakhat aavat suhaavat hai mand mand gaavatee |The women singing and playing their musical instruments and chanting their satirical songs look very impressive
ਕੇਹਰਿ ਸੀ ਕਟਿ ਅਉ ਕੁਰੰਗਨ ਸੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਗਜ ਕੈਸੀ ਚਾਲ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਸੁ ਆਵਤੀ ॥
kehar see katt aau kurangan se drig jaa ke gaj kaisee chaal man bhaavat su aavatee |They have slim waist like lions, eyes like does and gait like elephants.
ਮੋਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਉਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਲਾਲਨ ਕੇ ਖਾਰੇ ਧਰੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਤਬੈ ਦੋਊ ਦੂਲਹਿ ਦੁਲਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਤੀ ॥
motin ke chauk kare laalan ke khaare dhare baitthe tabai doaoo dooleh dulahee suhaavatee |Within the square of gems and on the seats of diamonds and jewels, the bride and bridegroom both look splendid
ਬੇਦਨ ਕੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਬਹੁ ਦਛਨਾ ਦਿਜਨ ਦੀਨੀ ਲੀਨੀ ਸਾਤ ਭਾਵਰੈ ਜੋ ਭਾਵਤੇ ਸੋਭਾਵਤੀ ॥੩੫॥
bedan kee dhun keenee bahu dachhanaa dijan deenee leenee saat bhaavarai jo bhaavate sobhaavatee |35|Within the chanting of Vedic mantras and giving and taking of religious gifts, the marriage ceremony was completed with seven matrimonial rounds by God’s will. 35.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਰਾਤਿ ਭਏ ਬਸੁਦੇਵ ਜੂ ਕੀਨੋ ਤਹਾ ਬਿਲਾਸ ॥
raat bhe basudev joo keeno tahaa bilaas |
ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਭਏ ਉਠ ਕੈ ਤਬੈ ਗਇਓ ਸਸੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੩੬॥
praat bhe utth kai tabai geio sasur ke paas |36|During the night Vasudev stayed at some place and getting up in the morning, he went to meet his father-in-law Ugarsain.36.
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਸਾਜ ਸਮੇਤ ਦਏ ਗਜ ਆਯੁਤ ਸੁ ਅਉਰ ਦਏ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਰਥਨਾਰੇ ॥
saaj samet de gaj aayut su aaur de trigunee rathanaare |
ਲਛ ਭਟੰ ਦਸ ਲਛ ਤੁਰੰਗਮ ਊਟ ਅਨੇਕ ਭਰੇ ਜਰ ਭਾਰੇ ॥
lachh bhattan das lachh turangam aoott anek bhare jar bhaare |Bedecked elephants and horses and threefold chariots were given (in marriage), one lakh warriors, ten lakhs of horses and many camels laden with gold were given
ਛਤੀਸ ਕੋਟ ਦਏ ਦਲ ਪੈਦਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਧੋ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ॥
chhatees kott de dal paidal sang kidho tin ke rakhavaare |
ਕੰਸ ਤਬੈ ਤਿਹ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਮਨੋ ਆਪ ਭਏ ਰਥ ਕੇ ਹਕਵਾਰੇ ॥੩੭॥
kans tabai tih raakhan kau mano aap bhe rath ke hakavaare |37|Thirty-six crores of soldiers on foot were given, who seemed to be given for the protection of all and Kansa himself became the charioteer of Devaki and Vasudev and for the protection of all.37.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕੰਸ ਲਵਾਏ ਜਾਤ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਦਲ ਸਾਜਿ ॥
kans lavaae jaat tin sakal prabal dal saaj |
ਆਗੇ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਸੁਨੀ ਬਿਧ ਕੀ ਅਸੁਭ ਅਵਾਜ ॥੩੮॥
aage te sravanan sunee bidh kee asubh avaaj |38|When Kansa was going with all the forces, he heard, on going forward, an invisible and inauspicious voice.38.
ਨਭਿ ਬਾਨੀ ਬਾਚ ਕੰਸ ਸੋ ॥
nabh baanee baach kans so |The heavenly speech addressed to Kansa:

ਦੁਖ ਕੋ ਹਰਿਨ ਬਿਧ ਸਿਧਿ ਕੇ ਕਰਨ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਧਰਨ ਐਸੋ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹੈ ਉਚਾਰ ਕੈ ॥
dukh ko harin bidh sidh ke karan roop mangal dharan aaiso kahiyo hai uchaar kai |The Lord, remover of suffering, performer of austerities for great powers and bestower of prosperity, said through the heavenly speech,
ਲੀਏ ਕਹਾ ਜਾਤ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਾਲ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਮੂੜ ਮਤਿ ਆਠਵੋ ਗਰਭ ਯਾ ਕੋ ਤੋ ਕੋ ਡਾਰੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਹੈ ॥
lee kahaa jaat tero kaal hai re moorr mat aatthavo garabh yaa ko to ko ddaarai maar hai |“O fool! where are you taking your death? The eighth son of this (Devaki) will be the cause of your death
