ਰਾਜ ਕਰੌ ਅਪਨੇ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਸੋ ਇਨ ਧਾਮਨ ਬੀਚ ਬਿਹਾਰੋ ॥

‘Better you carryon your sovereignty and remain in your home happily.

ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਯੋ ਜਬ ਤੇ ਤਬ ਤੇ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਨਹਿ ਆਨ ਨਿਹਾਰੋ ॥

‘Since my birth, relinquishing modesty, I have never looked at another woman.

ਕ੍ਯਾ ਤੁਮ ਖ੍ਯਾਲ ਪਰੋ ਹਮਰੇ ਮਨ ਧੀਰ ਧਰੋ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥੪੪॥

‘Whatever the thoughts you may have drowned in, keep patient and meditate on Godly Name.’(44)

ਕ੍ਰੋਰਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਰੋ ਲਲਨਾ ਤੁਮ ਕੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੈ ਨ ਟਰੋਂਗੀ ॥

(Rani) ‘Oh, my love, you may try thousands of time, but! will not let you go without making love with me.

ਭਾਜਿ ਰਹੋਬ ਕਹਾ ਹਮ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਲੀ ਤੁਹਿ ਆਜ ਬਰੋਂਗੀ ॥

‘Whatever you may do, you cannot run away, I must achieve you today.

ਜੌ ਨ ਮਿਲੋ ਤੁਮ ਆਜੁ ਹਮੈ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਤਬ ਮੈ ਬਿਖ ਖਾਇ ਮਰੋਂਗੀ ॥

If I cannot achieve you today, I will kill myself by taking poison,

ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੇ ਦਰਸੇ ਪਰਸੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਵਕ ਮੈਨ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ ਕਰੋਂਗੀ ॥੪੫॥

‘And, without meeting the lover, I will burn myself in the fire of passion.’(45)

Chaupaee

ਰੀਤਿ ਯਹੈ ਕੁਲ ਪਰੀ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥

ਸੁ ਮੈ ਕਹਤ ਹੋ ਤੀਰ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ॥

(Urvassi) ‘This is the tradition of our household, I must tell you,

ਚਲ ਕਿਸਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥

ਚਲਿ ਆਵੈ ਛੋਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੪੬॥

‘Never to go to the house of any body but if some one came over, never to disappoint.’ (46)

ਜਬ ਯਹ ਬਾਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

ਨਿਜੁ ਮਤਿ ਬੀਚ ਯਹੈ ਠਹਰਾਈ ॥

When the lady (Rani) learnt this, she ascertained,

ਹੌਂ ਚਲਿ ਧਾਮ ਮੀਤ ਕੇ ਜੈਹੌ ॥

ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਕੇ ਭੋਗ ਕਮੈਹੌ ॥੪੭॥

‘I will walk to his home and fully gratify myself by making love.(47)

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

Savaiyya

ਆਜੁ ਪਯਾਨ ਕਰੋਗੀ ਤਹਾ ਸਖੀ ਭੂਖਨ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਨੂਪ ਬਨਾਊ ॥

‘Oh, my friends, I will go there today putting my best clothes on.

ਮੀਤ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਬਦ੍ਯੋ ਮਿਲਿਬੋ ਨਿਸ ਹੋਤ ਨਹੀ ਅਬ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਆਊ ॥

‘I have determined to meet my master, and I have resolved to go right now.

ਸਾਵਨ ਮੋ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਨ ਕੇ ਲੀਏ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਤਰਿ ਜਾਊ ॥

‘To satiate myself! can cross over even seven seas.

ਕ੍ਰੋਰਿ ਉਪਾਉ ਕਰੌ ਸਜਨੀ ਪਿਯ ਕੋ ਤਨ ਕੈ ਤਨ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਊ ॥੪੮॥

‘Oh, my friends, with thousands of efforts, I am longing for the body to encounter the body.(47)

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

Chaupaee

ਜਬ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਭਵ ਮੋ ਭਵ ਲੀਯੋ ॥

ਆਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਸੌ ਭੋਗ ਨ ਕੀਯੋ ॥

(Urvassi) ‘Since my birth, I have not made love to many woman.

ਜੌ ਐਸੋ ਚਿਤ ਰਿਝਿਯੋ ਤਿਹਾਰੋ ॥

ਤੌ ਕਹਾ ਬਸਿ ਚਲਤ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥੪੯॥

‘But if you ardently desire, I will not restrain myself.(49)

ਨ ਪਿਯਾਨ ਧਾਮ ਤਵ ਕਰੋ ॥

ਨਰਕ ਪਰਨ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਚਿਤ ਡਰੋ ॥

‘Afraid of going to the hell, I cannot come to your house.

ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਧਾਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਐਯਹੁ ॥

ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਕੋ ਭੋਗ ਕਮੈਯਹੁ ॥੫੦॥

‘You better come to my house and enjoy love-making to your satisfaction.’(50)

ਬਾਤੇ ਕਰਤ ਨਿਸਾ ਪਰਿ ਗਈ ॥

ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੌ ਕਾਮ ਕਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਭਈ ॥

Talking and talking, the dusk approached and her desire for sex kindled.

ਅਧਿਕ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਭੇਸ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥

ਤਾ ਕੌ ਤਿਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਓਰ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥੫੧॥

She sent him to his house and herself adorned beautiful clothes.’(51)

ਤਬ ਮੋਹਨ ਨਿਜੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਚਲਿ ਆਯੋ ॥

ਅਧਿਕ ਅਨੂਪਮ ਭੇਸ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥

Mohan retUrned to his house and put on attractive clothes.

ਟਕਿਯਨ ਕੀ ਚਪਟੀ ਉਰਬਸੀ ॥

ਮੋਮ ਮਾਰਿ ਆਸਨ ਸੌ ਕਸੀ ॥੫੨॥

She hung the bags full of coins around her neck, and, with wax, covered her aasan, part ofthe body in between the two legs).(52)

ਬਿਖਿ ਕੋ ਲੇਪ ਤਵਨ ਮੌ ਕੀਯੋ ॥

ਸਿਵਹਿ ਰਿਝਾਇ ਮਾਗ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਯੋ ॥

On top of that she applied poison, which she had obtained from the reptiles after pleasing Shiva.

ਜਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਗ ਤਵਨ ਸੌ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

ਤਾ ਕੈ ਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਨ ਜਮ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੫੩॥

So that whom-so-ever came in contact, would be poisoned to enable Yama, the god of death, to take the soul away.(53)

ਤਬ ਲੌ ਨਾਰਿ ਗਈ ਵਹੁ ਆਈ ॥

ਕਾਮਾਤੁਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥

Then the woman reached there, extremely lured by the urge of the Cupid.

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਭੇਦ ਕਛੂ ਨਹਿ ਜਾਨ੍ਯੋ ॥

ਉਰਬਸਿ ਕੌ ਕਰਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਛਾਨ੍ਯੋ ॥੫੪॥

She had not envisaged the truth and had misconstrued Urvassi as a man.(54)

ਤਾ ਸੋ ਭੋਗ ਅਧਿਕ ਜਬ ਕੀਨੋ ॥

ਮਨ ਮੈ ਮਾਨਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੁਖ ਲੀਨੋ ॥

With full contentment she made love with her.

ਬਿਖੁ ਕੇ ਚੜੇ ਮਤ ਤਬ ਭਈ ॥

ਜਮ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਬਿਖੈ ਚਲਿ ਗਈ ॥੫੫॥

When, with the effect of poison, she was extremely exhilarated, she left for the abode of Yama.(55)

ਉਰਬਸਿ ਜਬ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਧ ਕੀਯੋ ॥

ਸੁਰ ਪੁਰ ਕੋ ਮਾਰਗ ਤਬ ਲੀਯੋ ॥

After when Urvassi had exterminated her, she departed for heaven too.

ਜਹਾ ਕਾਲ ਸੁਭ ਸਭਾ ਬਨਾਈ ॥

ਉਰਬਸਿ ਯੌ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਤਹ ਆਈ ॥੫੬॥

Where Dharam Raja had his council in session, she arrived there.(56)

ਤਾ ਕੌ ਅਮਿਤ ਦਰਬੁ ਤਿਨ ਦੀਯੋ ॥

ਮੇਰੋ ਬਡੋ ਕਾਮ ਤੁਮ ਕੀਯੋ ॥

He honoured her saying, ‘You have done a great service to me.

ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਕੌ ਜਿਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਤੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੫੭॥

‘The woman who had killed her husband, you have terminated her life like this.’(57)

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

Dohira

ਜਾ ਦੁਖ ਤੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਹਨ੍ਯੋ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥

The agony, through which the woman had killed her husband, was inflicted upon her too.

ਤਿਸੀ ਦੋਖ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ਤਿਸੈ ਧੰਨ੍ਯ ਧੰਨ੍ਯ ਜਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੫੮॥

Praiseworthy is the King of Yama, as she was meted out the same treatment.(58)

ਪੂਰਬ ਦੇਸ ਕੋ ਏਸ ਰੂਪੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਰਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਅਲਕੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਜੈਸੋ ॥

Roopeshwar Raja of the west was as good as the Raja of Alkeswar.

ਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਿਧੌ ਅਸੁਰਾਰਿ ਸੁਰੇਸਨ ਤੈਸੋ ॥

He was so much handsome that, even, Indra, the enemy of the devils could not match.

ਭਾਰ ਭਰੇ ਭਟ ਭੂਧਰ ਕੀ ਸਮ ਭੀਰ ਪਰੇ ਰਨ ਏਕਲ ਜੈਸੋ ॥

If a war were inflicted upon him, he would fight like a mountain.

ਜੰਗ ਜਗੇ ਅਰਧੰਗ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ ਮਕਰਧ੍ਵਜ ਕੈਸੋ ॥੧॥

If a group of braves came to kill him, he alone would figh t like one hundred soldiers.(1)

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਤ ਹੋਤ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

ਚਿੰਤ ਯਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥

But his subject was getting worried as he was not blessed with a son.

ਤਬ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਅਕੁਲਾਈ ॥
