ਸੋਚ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਤਜ੍ਯੋ ਸਭ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਨੈਨ ਸੋ ਨੈਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਮੁਸਕਾਹੀ ॥
soch bichaar tajayo sabh sundar nain so nain mile musakaahee |That beauty has given up all thoughts (from the mind) and laughs with laughter.
ਲਾਲ ਕੇ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਲੋਚਨ ਲੋਲ ਅਮੋਲਨ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਖੇ ਪਰਛਾਹੀ ॥
laal ke laalachee lochan lol amolan kee nirakhe parachhaahee |(who are ever tempted) to see the shadow of the Beloved's playful, precious eyes.
ਮਤ ਭਈ ਮਨ ਮਾਨੋ ਪਿਯੋ ਮਦ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਹੀ ਮੁਖ ਭਾਖਤ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੨੮॥
mat bhee man maano piyo mad mohi rahee mukh bhaakhat naahee |28|She has become infatuated by getting the lover she desires, and the words do not come out of her mouth. 28.
ਸੋਭਤ ਸੁਧ ਸੁਧਾਰੇ ਸੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਜੋਬਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗੇ ਜਰਬੀਲੇ ॥
sobhat sudh sudhaare se sundar joban jot jage jarabeele |They are impressively embellished with beautiful work and are flaming brightly.
ਖੰਜਨ ਸੇ ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨ ਰਾਜਤ ਭਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਭਰੇ ਗਰਬੀਲੇ ॥
khanjan se manoranjan raajat bhaaree prataap bhare garabeele |Looking at his features woman gets heartfelt contentment.
ਬਾਨਨ ਸੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਬਾਰਨ ਸੇ ਤਰਵਾਰਨ ਸੇ ਚਮਕੇ ਚਟਕੀਲੇ ॥
baanan se mrig baaran se taravaaran se chamake chattakeele |She abandons all recollections and beams when she crosses her ravishing looks with his looks.
ਰੀਝਿ ਰਹੀ ਸਖਿ ਹੌਹੂੰ ਲਖੇ ਛਬਿ ਲਾਲ ਕੇ ਨੈਨ ਬਿਸਾਲ ਰਸੀਲੇ ॥੨੯॥
reejh rahee sakh hauahoon lakhe chhab laal ke nain bisaal raseele |29|Achieving profound love, she feels herself in ecstasy and does not express remorse.(29)
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਲੀ ਬਿਨ ਸੰਗ ਅਲੀ ਜਬ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਨ ਭੇਟਿ ਗਈ ਹੌ ॥
bhaat bhalee bin sang alee jab te man bhaavan bhett gee hau |‘Since the time I have met my lover, I have abandoned all my modesty.
ਤਾ ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਨ ਸੁਹਾਤ ਕਛੂ ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਮਨ ਮੋਲ ਲਈ ਹੌ ॥
taa din te na suhaat kachhoo su mano bin daaman mol lee hau |‘Nothing entices me, as if I am sold without any monetary gains.
ਭੌਹ ਕਮਾਨ ਕੋ ਤਾਨਿ ਭਲੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਸਾਇਕ ਕੇ ਜਨੁ ਘਾਇ ਘਈ ਹੌ ॥
bhauah kamaan ko taan bhale drig saaeik ke jan ghaae ghee hau |‘With the arrows coming oUt of his vision, I am afflicted.
ਮਾਰਿ ਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੀ ਸਜਨੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਲਾਲ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਭਈ ਹੌ ॥੩੦॥
maar su maar karee sajanee sun laal ko naam gulaam bhee hau |30|‘Listen, my friend, the urge for love-making has made me to become his slave.’(30)
ਬਾਰਿਜ ਨੈਨ ਜਿਤੀ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁ ਬਿਲੌਕ ਕੈ ਬਾਨ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਧ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੈ ॥
baarij nain jitee banitaa su bilauak kai baan binaa badh hvai hai |As many women with lotus-like nainas have been killed without an arrow after seeing him.
ਬੀਰੀ ਚਬਾਤ ਨ ਬੈਠਿ ਸਕੈ ਬਿਸੰਭਾਰ ਭਈ ਬਹੁਧਾ ਬਰਰੈ ਹੈ ॥
beeree chabaat na baitth sakai bisanbhaar bhee bahudhaa bararai hai |They do not chew food, cannot sit up and often burp due to lack of appetite.
ਬਾਤ ਕਹੈ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਨ ਬਬਾ ਕੀ ਸੌ ਲੇਤ ਬਲਾਇ ਸਭੈ ਬਲਿ ਜੈ ਹੈ ॥
baat kahai bigasai na babaa kee sau let balaae sabhai bal jai hai |They don't talk, they don't laugh, I swear to Baba, all of them are lying down, taking his blessings.
ਬਾਲਮ ਹੇਤ ਬਿਯੋਮ ਕੀ ਬਾਮ ਸੁ ਬਾਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਜਾਰ ਬਕੈ ਹੈ ॥੩੧॥
baalam het biyom kee baam su baar anek bajaar bakai hai |31|Even the fairies of the sky are sold many times in the market for (that) Balam (beloved).31.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਏਕ ਸਖੀ ਛਬਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਰਿਸਾਈ ॥
ek sakhee chhab her risaaee |A Sakhi was very angry seeing (her) image.
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਜਾਈ ॥
taa ke kahiyo pitaa pratee jaaee |One of her friends became jealous, who went and told her father.
ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਸਾਯੋ ॥
bachan sunat nrip adhik risaayo |The king was very angry after hearing this
ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਕੇ ਮੰਦਿਰ ਚਲਿ ਆਯੋ ॥੩੨॥
duhitaa ke mandir chal aayo |32|The Raja, getting furious, marched towards her palace.(32)
ਰਾਜ ਸੁਤਾ ਐਸੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
raaj sutaa aaise sun paayo |When Raj Kumari heard this
ਮੋ ਪਿਤੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਕੋਪ ਕਰਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
mo pit adhik kop kar aayo |When Raj Kumari learnt that her father, getting angry, was coming,
ਤਬ ਤਿਨ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਕਾ ਕਰੋ ॥
tab tin hridai kahiyo kaa karo |Then he thought in his heart what to do,
ਉਰ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਟਾਰੀ ਮਰੋ ॥੩੩॥
aur meh maar kattaaree maro |33|She resolved to kill herself with a dagger.(33)
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਬਿਮਨ ਚੰਚਲਾ ਚਿਤ ਲਖੀ ਮੀਤ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਮੁਸਕਾਇ ॥
biman chanchalaa chit lakhee meet kahiyo musakaae |As she seemed very much perturbed, her lover asked smilingly,
ਤੈ ਚਿਤ ਕ੍ਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਯਾਕੁਲਿ ਭਈ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਭੇਦ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥੩੪॥
tai chit kayo brayaakul bhee muhi keh bhed sunaae |34|‘Why are you getting agitated, tell me the reason?(34)

ਰਾਜ ਸੁਤਾ ਕਹਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
raaj sutaa keh taeh sunaayo |Raj Kumari told him
ਯਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਰ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਡਰ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
yaa te mor hridai ddar paayo |Raj Kumari, then, told, ‘I am dreaded in my heart, because,
ਰਾਜਾ ਸੋ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਕਹਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
raajaa so kinahoon keh deeno |By doing this, the king has become very angry.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਰਾਵ ਕੋਪ ਅਤਿ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੩੫॥
taa te raav kop at keeno |35|‘Some body had revealed the secret to the King and he is very much infuriated.(35)
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਰਾਵ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਉਪਜਾਯੋ ॥
taa te raav krodh upajaayo |By doing this, the king became very angry
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਰਨਿ ਹਿਤ ਆਯੋ ॥
duhoonan ke maaran hit aayo |‘Now the King, being outraged, is coming to kill us both.
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੰਗ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
apane sang mohi kar leejai |Take me with you
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਭਜਨ ਕੋ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੩੬॥
bahur upaae bhajan ko keejai |36|‘You take me with you, and find some way to escape.’(36)
ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਤ ਰਾਜਾ ਹਸਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ॥
bachan sunat raajaa has pariyo |The king laughed after listening to (the woman's) words
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸੋਕ ਨਿਵਾਰਨ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥
taa ko sok nivaaran kariyo |Listening to the talk, Raja laughed and suggested her to eliminate her distress.’
ਹਮਰੋ ਕਛੂ ਸੋਕ ਨਹਿ ਕਰਿਯੈ ॥
hamaro kachhoo sok neh kariyai |(The woman started saying) Don't worry about me.
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਜਾਨਿ ਜਾਨ ਤੇ ਡਰਿਯੈ ॥੩੭॥
tumaree jaan jaan te ddariyai |37|‘Don’t worry about me, I am concerned with your life only.(37)
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਧ੍ਰਿਗ ਅਬਲਾ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਪਿਯ ਬਧ ਨੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ॥
dhrig abalaa te jagat mai piy badh nain nihaar |Unworthy is the living of that woman who watches the assassination of her lover.
ਪਲਕ ਏਕ ਜੀਯਤ ਰਹੈ ਮਰਹਿ ਨ ਜਮਧਰ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੩੮॥
palak ek jeeyat rahai mareh na jamadhar maar |38|She should not live for a minute and kill herself with a dagger.(38)
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥
savaiyaa |Savaiyya
ਕੰਠਸਿਰੀ ਮਨਿ ਕੰਕਨ ਕੁੰਡਰ ਭੂਖਨ ਛੋਰਿ ਭਭੂਤ ਧਰੌਂਗੀ ॥
kantthasiree man kankan kunddar bhookhan chhor bhabhoot dharauangee |(Raj Kumari) ‘Throwing away; necklace, getting rid of gold bangles and ornaments, I will smear dust on my body (become an ascetic).
ਹਾਰ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਹਜਾਰਨ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਾਵਕ ਬੀਚ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ ਕਰੌਂਗੀ ॥
haar bisaar hajaaran sundar paavak beech praves karauangee |‘Sacrificing all my beautification, I will jump in fire to finish myself.
ਜੂਝਿ ਮਰੌ ਕਿ ਗਰੌ ਹਿਮ ਮਾਝ ਟਰੋ ਨ ਤਊ ਹਠਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਬਰੌਂਗੀ ॥
joojh marau ki garau him maajh ttaro na taoo hatth tohi barauangee |‘I will fight to death or bury myself in the snow but will never abandon my determination.
ਰਾਜ ਸਮਾਜ ਨ ਕਾਜ ਕਿਸੂ ਸਖਿ ਪੀਯ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਲਖਿ ਹੌਹੂ ਮਰੌਂਗੀ ॥੩੯॥
raaj samaaj na kaaj kisoo sakh peey mariyo lakh hauahoo marauangee |39|‘All the sovereignty and socialising won’t be of any benefit if my lover dies.’(39)
