ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਤ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਿਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਭਈ ॥
bachan sunat krudhit triy bhee |
ਜਰਿ ਬਰਿ ਆਠ ਟੂਕ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਈ ॥
jar bar aatth ttook hvai gee |Listening to all this, she flew into rage and thought,
ਅਬ ਹੀ ਚੋਰਿ ਚੋਰਿ ਕਹਿ ਉਠਿਹੌ ॥
ab hee chor chor keh utthihau |
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਹਸਿ ਖੇਲੋ ਸੁਖ ਸੋ ਰਮੋ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਤ ਹੋ ਰੋਖ ॥
has khelo sukh so ramo kahaa karat ho rokh |(She) ‘Why are you getting so angry, jovially have sex with me.
ਨੈਨ ਰਹੇ ਨਿਹੁਰਾਇ ਕ੍ਯੋ ਹੇਰਤ ਲਗਤ ਨ ਦੋਖ ॥੫੬॥
nain rahe nihuraae kayo herat lagat na dokh |56|‘My eyes are inviting you, can’t you understand what they are revealing.’ (56)
ਯਾ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਹੇਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਿਖ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਬੈਨ ॥
yaa te ham herat nahee sun sikh hamaare bain |(Raja) ‘Listen, Carefully Listen, I am not looking at you,
ਲਖੇ ਲਗਨ ਲਗਿ ਜਾਇ ਜਿਨ ਬਡੇ ਬਿਰਹਿਯਾ ਨੈਨ ॥੫੭॥
lakhe lagan lag jaae jin badde birahiyaa nain |57|‘Because the looks create the feeling of separation.’(57)

ਦਿਜਨ ਦੀਜਿਯਹੁ ਦਾਨ ਦ੍ਰੁਜਨ ਕਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਿਖੈਯਹੁ ॥
dijan deejiyahu daan drujan kah drisatt dikhaiyahu |‘Charity is endowed to the priests and the men with base thinking get scornful looks.
ਸੁਖੀ ਰਾਖਿਯਹੁ ਸਾਥ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਿਰ ਖੜਗ ਬਜੈਯਹੁ ॥
sukhee raakhiyahu saath satru sir kharrag bajaiyahu |‘Friends are entrained with relief and the enemies get hit on the heads with sword.
ਲੋਕ ਲਾਜ ਕਉ ਛਾਡਿ ਕਛੂ ਕਾਰਜ ਨਹਿ ਕਰਿਯਹੁ ॥
lok laaj kau chhaadd kachhoo kaaraj neh kariyahu |‘No act is performed keeping in view the public opinion.
ਪਰ ਨਾਰੀ ਕੀ ਸੇਜ ਪਾਵ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਹੂੰ ਨ ਧਰਿਯਹੁ ॥
par naaree kee sej paav supane hoon na dhariyahu |‘One should not even dream of getting into bed with else’s wife.
ਗੁਰ ਜਬ ਤੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਇਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਨ ਲਯੋ ਸੁ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
gur jab te muhi kahiyo ihai pran layo su dhaarai |‘Since the time Guru has taught me this lesson,
ਹੋ ਪਰ ਧਨ ਪਾਹਨ ਤੁਲਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਪਰ ਮਾਤ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥੫੮॥
ho par dhan paahan tul triyaa par maat hamaarai |58|Any thing belonging to somebody else is like a stone and else’s wife like a mother to me.’(58)
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਸੁਨਤ ਰਾਵ ਕੋ ਬਚ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਮਨਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥
sunat raav ko bach sravan triy man adhik risaae |Listening to the Raja’s talk she became angrier,
ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਉਠੀ ਸਿਖ੍ਯਨ ਦਿਯੋ ਜਗਾਇ ॥੫੯॥
chor chor keh kai utthee sikhayan diyo jagaae |59|And shouting, “thief, thief” she awoke all her companions.(59)
ਸੁਨਤ ਚੋਰ ਕੋ ਬਚ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਅਧਿਕ ਡਰਿਯੋ ਨਰ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
sunat chor ko bach sravan adhik ddariyo nar naeh |Hearing the call of “thief, thief,” the Raja was frightened.
ਪਨੀ ਪਾਮਰੀ ਤਜਿ ਭਜ੍ਯੋ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਰਹੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੬੦॥
panee paamaree taj bhajayo sudh na rahee man maeh |60|He lost his sanity and, leaving there his shoes and silk robe, ran away.(60)

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਸੁਨਤ ਚੋਰ ਕੇ ਬਚ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਉਠਿਯੋ ਰਾਇ ਡਰ ਧਾਰ ॥
sunat chor ke bach sravan utthiyo raae ddar dhaar |When the Raja heard the call, “thief, thief” he became dreadful.
ਭਜਿਯੋ ਜਾਇ ਡਰ ਪਾਇ ਮਨ ਪਨੀ ਪਾਮਰੀ ਡਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
bhajiyo jaae ddar paae man panee paamaree ddaar |1|He ran out leaving behind his shoes and silk robe.(1)
ਚੋਰਿ ਸੁਨਤ ਜਾਗੇ ਸਭੈ ਭਜੈ ਨ ਦੀਨਾ ਰਾਇ ॥
chor sunat jaage sabhai bhajai na deenaa raae |Hearing the call of thief, all woke up and did not let the Raja runaway,
ਕਦਮ ਪਾਚ ਸਾਤਕ ਲਗੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਿਤਾਬੀ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
kadam paach saatak lage mile sitaabee aae |2|And within five or seven feet they caught him.(2)
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਚੋਰ ਬਚਨ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਧਾਏ ॥
chor bachan sabh hee sun dhaae |
ਕਾਢੇ ਖੜਗ ਰਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਆਏ ॥
kaadte kharrag raae prat aae |Others too heard the call of “thief” and came out with their swords.
ਕੂਕਿ ਕਹੈ ਤੁਹਿ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਦੈਹੈ ॥
kook kahai tuhi jaan na daihai |
ਤੁਹਿ ਤਸਕਰ ਜਮਧਾਮ ਪਠੈ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
tuhi tasakar jamadhaam patthai hai |3|People shouted at him and expressed that he should be sent to the hell.(3)
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਆਗੇ ਪਾਛੇ ਦਾਹਨੇ ਘੇਰਿ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸ ਲੀਨ ॥
aage paachhe daahane gher daso dis leen |He was rounded up from left, right and all the directions.
ਪੈਂਡ ਭਜਨ ਕੌ ਨ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਰਾਇ ਜਤਨ ਯੌ ਕੀਨ ॥੪॥
paindd bhajan kau na rahiyo raae jatan yau keen |4|Raja did try but he could not find any means (to escape).(4)
ਵਾ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਦਾਰੀ ਧਰੀ ਪਗਿਯਾ ਲਈ ਉਤਾਰਿ ॥
vaa kee kar daaree dharee pagiyaa lee utaar |People pulled his beard and took his turban off
ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ਕਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਗਹਿਯੋ ਦ੍ਵੈਕ ਮੁਤਹਰੀ ਝਾਰਿ ॥੫॥
chor chor kar tih gahiyo dvaik mutaharee jhaar |5|Calling him “thief, thief” they beat him with sticks.(5)
ਲਗੇ ਮੁਹਤਰੀ ਕੇ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਭੂਮਿ ਮੂਰਛਨਾ ਖਾਇ ॥
lage muhataree ke giriyo bhoom moorachhanaa khaae |With the beating of sticks, he fell flat and became unconscious.
ਭੇਦ ਨ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਨਰ ਲਹਿਯੋ ਮੁਸਕੈ ਲਈ ਚੜਾਇ ॥੬॥
bhed na kaahoon nar lahiyo musakai lee charraae |6|People without understanding the real issue, tied him up with a rope.(6)
ਲਾਤ ਮੁਸਟ ਬਾਜਨ ਲਗੀ ਸਿਖ੍ਯ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਆਇ ॥
laat musatt baajan lagee sikhay pahunche aae |They were throwing punches and kicks when the Sikhs arrived, too.
ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਸਕਿਯੋ ਛੁਰਾਇ ॥੭॥
bhraat bhraat triy keh rahee koaoo na sakiyo chhuraae |7|The woman shouted, “brother, brother,” but could not rescue him.(7)

ਜੂਤੀ ਬਹੁ ਤਿਹ ਮੂੰਡ ਲਗਾਈ ॥
jootee bahu tih moondd lagaaee |
ਮੁਸਕੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਐਠ ਚੜਾਈ ॥
musakai taa kee aaitth charraaee |His face was hit with shoes and hands were tied tightly.
ਬੰਦਸਾਲ ਤਿਹ ਦਿਯਾ ਪਠਾਈ ॥
bandasaal tih diyaa patthaaee |
ਆਨਿ ਆਪਨੀ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥੮॥
aan aapanee sej suhaaee |8|He was put in the jail, and the woman came back to her bed.(8)
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਖੇਲਿ ਰਾਇ ਭਜ ਆਯੋ ॥
eih chhal khel raae bhaj aayo |-63
ਬੰਦਸਾਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
bandasaal triy bhraat patthaayo |Through such a deception, the Raja went free and despatched her brother to the prison.
ਸਿਖ੍ਯਨ ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
sikhayan bhed abhed na paayo |
