Now begins the description about the Birth of Balbhadra

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਜੋ ਬਲਭਦ੍ਰ ਭਯੋ ਗਰਭਾਤਰ ਤੌ ਦੁਹੰ ਬੈਠਿ ਕੈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

jo balabhadr bhayo garabhaatar tau duhan baitth kai mantr kario hai |

When Balabhadra entered the womb, both Devaki and Basudeva sat and consulted.

ਤਾ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਜੋਰ ਸੋ ਕਾਢਿ ਕੈ ਰੋਹਿਨੀ ਕੇ ਉਰ ਬੀਚ ਧਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

taa hee te mantr ke jor so kaadt kai rohinee ke ur beech dhario hai |

When balbhadra was conceived, Devaki and Vasudev sat to hold consultations and with the power of mantras, he was transferred from the womb of Devaki to the womb of Rohini

ਕੰਸ ਕਦਾਚ ਹਨੇ ਸਿਸੁ ਕੋ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਬਸੁਦੇਵ ਡਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

kans kadaach hane sis ko tih te man mai basudev ddario hai |

Basudeva is frightened in his heart by doing this, Kansa should not even kill (this) child.

ਸੇਖ ਮਨੋ ਜਗ ਦੇਖਨ ਕੋ ਜਗ ਭੀਤਰ ਰੂਪ ਨਵੀਨ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥੫੫॥

sekh mano jag dekhan ko jag bheetar roop naveen kario hai |55|

Thinking that Kansa may also kill him, Vasudev was frightened. It seemed that Sheshanaga had assumed a new form in order to see the world.55.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

DOHRA

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧ ਦੋ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਕਿਸਨ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਸੁ ॥

krisan krisan kar saadh do bisan kisan pat jaas |

Both sages (Devki and Basudeva) worship Maya-Pati ('Kisan Pati') Vishnu as 'Krishna Krishna'.

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬਿਸ੍ਵ ਤਰਬੇ ਨਿਮਿਤ ਤਨ ਮੈ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ॥੫੬॥

krisan bisv tarabe nimit tan mai kariyo prakaas |56|

Both Devaki and Vasudev, began to remember Vishnu, the lord of Lakshmi with extreme saintliness and here Vishnu entered and enlightened the body of Devaki in order to redeem the world darkened by vices.56.

ਅਥ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਜਨਮ ॥

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਸੰਖ ਗਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਅਉਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲ ਧਰੇ ਤਨਿ ਕਉਚ ਬਡੇ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥

sankh gadaa kar aaur trisool dhare tan kauch badde baddabhaagee |

He is holding a conch, mace and trident in his hand, a shield (wearing) on his body and is of great splendor.

ਨੰਦ ਗਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਪੀਤ ਧਰੈ ਪਟ ਪੈ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ॥

nand gahai kar saarang saarang peet dharai patt pai anuraagee |

Vishnu appeared in the womb of sleeping Devaki (in the form of Krishna) in yellow dress, wearing armour on body and holding conch, mace, trident, sword and bow in his hands

ਸੋਈ ਹੁਤੀ ਜਨਮਿਉ ਇਹ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੈ ਡਰਪੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਗੀ ॥

soee hutee janamiau ih ke grih kai ddarapai man mai utth jaagee |

With the birth (of such a glorious man) in the planet of the sleeping Devaki, she is sitting awake with fear in her mind.

ਦੇਵਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ਲਖਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਨਾਮ ਸੁ ਪਾਇਨ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੫੭॥

devakee putr na jaaniyo lakhio har kai kai pranaam su paaein laagee |57|

Devaki was terrified, she awoke and sat down she did not know that a son had been born to her seeing Vishnu apparently, she bowed at his feet.57.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

DOHRA

ਲਖਿਓ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨੈ ਲਖਿਓ ਨ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਤ ॥

lakhio devakee har manai lakhio na kar kar taat |

Devaki has accepted by Hari, not by son.

ਲਖਿਓ ਜਾਨ ਕਰਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਕੀ ਤਾਨੀ ਤਾਨਿ ਕਨਾਤ ॥੫੮॥

lakhio jaan kar mohi kee taanee taan kanaat |58|

Devaki did not consider him as a son, but saw him in the form of God, still, being a mother, her attachment grew.58.

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਜਨਮ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਭਇਓ ਦੇਵਨ ਭਇਓ ਹੁਲਾਸ ॥

krisan janam jab hee bheio devan bheio hulaas |

When Krishna was born, then the hearts of the gods became happy.

ਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਬੈ ਅਬ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਹਿੰ ਹਮ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਲਾਸ ॥੫੯॥

satr sabai ab naas hohin ham ko hoe bilaas |59|

As soon as Krishna was born, the gods were filled with joy and thought that then the enemies would be destroyed and them they would be overjoyed.59.

ਆਨੰਦ ਸੋ ਸਬ ਦੇਵਤਨ ਸੁਮਨ ਦੀਨ ਬਰਖਾਇ ॥

aanand so sab devatan suman deen barakhaae |

Delighted all the gods showered the flowers,

ਸੋਕ ਹਰਨ ਦੁਸਟਨ ਦਲਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਜਗ ਮੋ ਆਇ ॥੬੦॥

sok haran dusattan dalan pragatte jag mo aae |60|

Filled with delight, the gods showered flowers and believed that Vishnu, the destroyer of sorrows and tyrants had manifested himself in the world.60.

ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰ ਭਯੋ ਜਬੈ ਸੁਨੀ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ॥

jai jai kaar bhayo jabai sunee devakee kaan |

When (by the gods) Jai Jai Kar was going on, Devaki heard the ear

ਤ੍ਰਾਸਤਿ ਹੁਇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੋਰ ਕਰੈ ਕੋ ਆਨਿ ॥੬੧॥

traasat hue man mai kahiyo sor karai ko aan |61|

When Devaki heard the hailings with her own ears, then she with fear began to think as to who was creating noise.61.

ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

baasudev ar devakee mantr karai man maeh |

Basudeva and Devaki think in mind

ਕੰਸ ਕਸਾਈ ਜਾਨ ਕੈ ਹੀਐ ਅਧਿਕ ਡਰਪਾਹਿ ॥੬੨॥

kans kasaaee jaan kai heeai adhik ddarapaeh |62|

Vasudev and Devaki began to think between themselves and considering Kansa as a butcher, their hearts were filled with great fear.62.

ਇਤਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਜਨਮ ਬਰਨਨੰ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥

eit krisan janam barananan samaapatan |

End of the description about the Birth of Krishna.

ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਿਓ ਦੁਹਹੂੰ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਡਰੈ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਮਤਿ ਰਾਜਾ ॥

mantr bichaar kario duhahoon mil maar ddarai ih ko mat raajaa |

Both of them (Basudeva and Devaki) met and deliberated and advised (that) where Kansa should not let him die,

ਨੰਦਹਿ ਕੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ਹਉ ਡਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਠਾਟ ਇਹੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਜਾ ॥

nandeh ke ghar aae hau ddaar kai tthaatt ihee man mai tin saajaa |

Both of them thought that the king may not also kill this son, they decided to leave him in the house of Nand

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕਹਿਓ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਨ ਡਰੋ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਹੁ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਬਜਾਵਤ ਬਾਜਾ ॥

kaanrah kahio man mai na ddaro tum jaahu nisank bajaavat baajaa |

Kanh said, don't you be afraid, be quiet and shout (no one will be able to see).

ਮਾਯਾ ਕੀ ਖੈਂਚਿ ਕਨਾਤ ਲਈ ਧਰ ਬਾਲਕ ਸਊਰਭ ਆਪਿ ਬਿਰਾਜਾ ॥੬੩॥

maayaa kee khainch kanaat lee dhar baalak saoorabh aap biraajaa |63|

Krishna said, “Do not be fearful and go without any suspicion,” saying this Krishna spread his deceptive show (Yoga-maya) in all the four directions and sat himself in the form of a beautiful child.63.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਜਬੈ ਤਿਨ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਭਯੋ ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਇਹ ਕੀਨ ॥

krisan jabai tin grihi bhayo baasudev ih keen |

When Krishna (manifested) in their house, (then) Basudeva did this (deed).

ਦਸ ਹਜਾਰ ਗਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਮਨੈ ਮਨਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨ ॥੬੪॥

das hajaar gaaee bhalee manai manas kar deen |64|

On the birth of Krishna, Vasudev, in his mind, gave in charity ten thousand cows for the protection of Krishna.64.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਛੂਟਿ ਕਿਵਾਰ ਗਏ ਘਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਰਿ ਕੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਬਰ ਕੇ ਚਲਤੇ ॥

chhoott kivaar ge ghar ke dar ke nrip ke bar ke chalate |

As soon as Basudeva left, the doors of the king's house opened.

ਹਰਖੇ ਸਰਖੇ ਬਸੁਦੇਵਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਗ ਜਾਇ ਛੁਹਿਓ ਜਮਨਾ ਜਲ ਤੇ ॥

harakhe sarakhe basudeveh ke pag jaae chhuhio jamanaa jal te |

When Vasudev started, the doors of the house opened, his feet began to move further and went to enter Yamuna the water of Yamuna came forward to see Krishna

ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਨ ਕੌ ਹਰਿ ਅਉ ਬਢ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਉਰ ਗਏ ਤਨ ਕੇ ਬਲ ਤੇ ॥

har dekhan kau har aau badt ke har daur ge tan ke bal te |

In order to see Krishna, the water of Jamna rose further (and with the strength of Basudeva's body), Krishna ran across.

ਕਾਜ ਇਹੀ ਕਹਿ ਦੋਊ ਗਏ ਜੁ ਖਿਝੈ ਬਹੁ ਪਾਪਨ ਕੀ ਮਲ ਤੇ ॥੬੫॥

kaaj ihee keh doaoo ge ju khijhai bahu paapan kee mal te |65|

Sheshanaga powerfully ran forward, he spread his hoods and waved them like fly-whisk and alongwith it the waters of Yamuna and Sheshanaga both conveyed to Krishna about the increasing dirt of sin in the world.65.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਜਬੈ ਚੜਤੀ ਕਰੀ ਫੇਰਿਓ ਮਾਯਾ ਜਾਲ ॥

krisan jabai charratee karee ferio maayaa jaal |

When Basudeva (taking Krishna) found the tricks, at that time (Krishna) spread the maya net.

ਅਸੁਰ ਜਿਤੇ ਚਉਕੀ ਹੁਤੇ ਸੋਇ ਗਏ ਤਤਕਾਲ ॥੬੬॥

asur jite chaukee hute soe ge tatakaal |66|

When Vasudev began to walk taking Krishna with him, Krishna spread his deceptive show (maya), on account of which the demons, who were there as watchmen went to sleep.66.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਕੰਸਹਿ ਕੇ ਡਰ ਤੇ ਬਸੁਦੇਵ ਸੁ ਪਾਇ ਜਬੈ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਮਧਿ ਠਾਨੋ ॥

kanseh ke ddar te basudev su paae jabai jamunaa madh tthaano |

When Basudeva, fearing Kansa, stepped into the Jamna,

ਮਾਨ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਕੋ ਜਲ ਪਾਇਨ ਭੇਟਨ ਕਾਜ ਉਠਾਨੋ ॥

maan kai preet puraatan ko jal paaein bhettan kaaj utthaano |

Because of the fear of Kansa, when Vasudev put his feet in Yamuna it surged up to touch the feet of Krishna

ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੋ ਜਸੁ ਉਚ ਮਹਾ ਕਬਿ ਨੇ ਅਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੋ ॥

taa chhab ko jas uch mahaa kab ne apane man mai pahichaano |

The great majesty of that scene has been recognized by the poet (thus) in his mind,

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕੋ ਜਾਨ ਕਿਧੋ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਕੈ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਤਿਹ ਭੇਟਤ ਮਾਨੋ ॥੬੭॥

kaanrah ko jaan kidho pat hai ih kai jamunaa tih bhettat maano |67|

Recognising in its mind some old affection the poet felt thus about the high praise of that elegance that considering Krishna her Lord, Yamuna rose up to touch his feet.67.
