ਕਾਹੂੰ ਪਠੈ ਤੀਰਥਨ ਦੇਹੀ ॥
kaahoon patthai teerathan dehee |Some are sent on pilgrimages
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੋ ਦਰਬੁ ਮਾਗ ਸਭ ਲੇਹੀ ॥੬੮॥
grih ko darab maag sabh lehee |68|And they demand all the wealth of the house. 68.
ਜਿਹ ਨਰ ਕੋ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਤਕਾਵੈ ॥
jih nar ko dhanavaan takaavai |The person whom (it) the rich see,
ਜੋਨਿ ਸਿਲਾ ਮਹਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਫਸਾਵੈ ॥
jon silaa meh taeh fasaavai |They trap him in the cycle of lice.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਡੰਡ ਤਿਹ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਚੁਕਾਹੀ ॥
bahur ddandd tih moondd chukaahee |Then they give a lot of punishment on his head
ਕਾਢਿ ਦੇਤ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪੁਨਿ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੬੯॥
kaadt det taa ke pun maahee |69|And then they make him pay (that is, collect) 69.
ਇਨ ਲੋਗਨ ਧਨ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ॥
ein logan dhan hee kee aasaa |These people only hope for money.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਨਾਹਿ ਪ੍ਯਾਸਾ ॥
sree har jee kee naeh payaasaa |There is no thirst for Sri Bhagavan.
ਡਿੰਭਿ ਜਗਤ ਕਹ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਚਾਵੈ ॥
ddinbh jagat kah kar parachaavai |(They) spread hypocrisy to the world
ਲਛਿਮੀ ਹਰ ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਤ੍ਯੋਂ ਲੈ ਆਵੈ ॥੭੦॥
lachhimee har jayon tayon lai aavai |70|And like how they bring money by beating. 70.
ਦਿਜ ਬਾਚ ॥
dij baach |Brahmin said:
ਸੁਨੁ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੈ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
sun putree tai baat na jaanai |O daughter! Listen, you don't know the (real) thing
ਸਿਵ ਕਹ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਹਨ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੈ ॥
siv kah kar paahan pahichaanai |And considers Shiva as a stone.
ਬਿਪ੍ਰਨ ਕੌ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸਿਰ ਨ੍ਯਾਵੈ ॥
bipran kau sabh hee sir nayaavai |Brahmins are bowed down by all
ਚਰਨੋਦਕ ਲੈ ਮਾਥ ਚੜਾਵੈ ॥੭੧॥
charanodak lai maath charraavai |71|And they take Charnodak (Charnamrit) from them and offer it on the forehead. 71.
ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਤ ਸਗਲ ਜਗ ਇਨ ਕੀ ॥
poojaa karat sagal jag in kee |The whole world worships them
ਨਿੰਦ੍ਯਾ ਕਰਤ ਮੂੜ ਤੈ ਜਿਨ ਕੀ ॥
nindayaa karat moorr tai jin kee |Whose fool! You slander
ਏ ਹੈ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਦਿਜਬਰ ॥
e hai param puraatan dijabar |These Brahmins are very ancient
ਸਦਾ ਸਰਾਹਤ ਜਿਨ ਕਹ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬਰ ॥੭੨॥
sadaa saraahat jin kah nrip bar |72|Whom the great kings always advise. 72.
ਕੁਅਰਿ ਬਾਚ ॥
kuar baach |Raj Kumari said:
ਸੁਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਦਿਜ ਤੈ ਨਹਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
sun moorakh dij tai neh jaanee |O foolish Brahmin! Listen, you don't know
ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਾਹਨ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੀ ॥
param jot paahan pahichaanee |And considering the stone as Param Joti.
ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੈ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
ein meh param purakh tai jaanaa |You have understood the Supreme Being in these (stones).
ਤਜਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਨਪ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਯੋ ਅਯਾਨਾ ॥੭੩॥
taj sayaanap hvai gayo ayaanaa |73|Having left wisdom, he has become arrogant. 73.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥
arril |adamant:
ਲੈਨੌ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਲੈ ਦਿਜ ਮੁਹਿ ਨ ਝੁਠਾਇਯੈ ॥
lainau hoe su lai dij muhi na jhutthaaeiyai |O Brahman! Take what (you) have to take, but don't tell me lies
ਪਾਹਨ ਮੈ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਨ ਭਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਇਯੈ ॥
paahan mai paramesvar na bhaakh sunaaeiyai |And do not hear me calling God in stone.
ਇਨ ਲੋਗਨ ਪਾਹਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਵ ਠਹਰਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
ein logan paahan meh siv tthaharaae kai |By calling these people Shiva in stones
ਹੋ ਮੂੜਨ ਲੀਜਹੁ ਲੂਟ ਹਰਖ ਉਪਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੭੪॥
ho moorran leejahu loott harakh upajaae kai |74|Rob the fools with pleasure. 74.
ਕਾਹੂ ਕਹ ਪਾਹਨ ਮਹਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਤਾਤ ਹੈ ॥
kaahoo kah paahan meh braham bataat hai |Someone (you) calls God in stone.
ਜਲ ਡੂਬਨ ਹਿਤ ਕਿਸਹੂੰ ਤੀਰਥ ਪਠਾਤ ਹੈ ॥
jal ddooban hit kisahoon teerath patthaat hai |Sends someone on pilgrimages to take a dip in the water.
ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਤ੍ਯੋਂ ਧਨ ਹਰ ਲੇਤ ਜਤਨ ਅਨਗਨਿਤ ਕਰ ॥
jayon tayon dhan har let jatan anaganit kar |Like how one earns money by making countless efforts.
ਹੋ ਟਕਾ ਗਾਠਿ ਮਹਿ ਲਏ ਨ ਦੇਹੀ ਜਾਨ ਘਰ ॥੭੫॥
ho ttakaa gaatth meh le na dehee jaan ghar |75|(He knows) the money in (whose) bundle he does not let go home without taking it. 75.
ਧਨੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਹ ਲਖਿ ਦਿਜ ਦੋਖ ਲਗਾਵਹੀ ॥
dhanee purakh kah lakh dij dokh lagaavahee |Seeing a rich person, Brahmins blame (someone) (sin).
ਹੋਮ ਜਗ੍ਯ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤ ਕਰਾਵਹੀ ॥
hom jagay taa te bahu bhaat karaavahee |Many kinds of homa and yagya are performed from him.
ਧਨਿਯਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਰਧਨੀ ਜਾਤ ਧਨ ਖਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
dhaniyeh kar niradhanee jaat dhan khaae kai |They eat the wealth of the rich and make (him) destitute.
ਹੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਬਦਨ ਦਿਖਾਵਤ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥੭੬॥
ho bahur na taa kau badan dikhaavat aae kai |76|Then they do not come and show him face to face. 76.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥
chauapee |twenty four:
ਕਾਹੂ ਲੌ ਤੀਰਥਨ ਸਿਧਾਵੈ ॥
kaahoo lau teerathan sidhaavai |Some are sent on pilgrimages
ਕਾਹੂ ਅਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥
kaahoo afal prayog bataavai |And the sadhana (upa, 'experiment') of many is unsuccessful.
ਕਾਕਨ ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਮੰਡਰਾਤ ਧਨੂ ਪਰ ॥
kaakan jayon manddaraat dhanoo par |They hover over money like crows.
ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਕਿਲਕਿਲਾ ਮਛਰੀਯੈ ਦੂ ਪਰ ॥੭੭॥
jayon kilakilaa machhareeyai doo par |77|77
ਜ੍ਯੋ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਏਕ ਹਡਿਯਾ ਪਰ ॥
jayo dvai svaan ek haddiyaa par |As two dogs fight over a bone.
ਭੂਸਤ ਮਨੋ ਬਾਦਿ ਬਿਦ੍ਰਯਾਧਰ ॥
bhoosat mano baad bidrayaadhar |In the same way, suppose two scholars bark during a debate.
ਬਾਹਰ ਕਰਤ ਬੇਦ ਕੀ ਚਰਚਾ ॥
baahar karat bed kee charachaa |From outside they talk about the Vedas,
ਤਨ ਅਰੁ ਮਨ ਧਨ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਅਰਚਾ ॥੭੮॥
tan ar man dhan hee kee arachaa |78|But the mind and body remain attached to the worship of wealth. 78.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਧਨ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ਮਨ ਰਹੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਪੂਜਤ ਦੇਵ ॥
dhan kee aasaa man rahe baahar poojat dev |The hope of wealth lives in the mind and worships the deity externally.
