bhee indr kee raajadhaanee binaasan |

There was no position of gods in the Yajnas of king Bali and the capital of Indra was also destroyed.

karee jog araadhanaa sarab devan |

All the deities performed yoga worship

prasanan bhe kaal purakhan abhevan |2|

In great agony, all the gods meditated on the Lord, by which the Supreme Destroyer Purusha was pleased.2.

deeyo aaeisan kaalapurakhan apaaran |

The immeasurable 'Kal Purakh' gave a sign to Vishnu

dharo baavanaa bisan asattam vataaran |

The Non-temporal Lord asked Vishnu out of all gods to assume his eighth manifestation in the form of Vaman incarnation.

lee bisan aagiaa chaliyo dhaae aaise |

Vishnu took permission and walked away

lahiyo daaradee bhoop bhanddaar jaise |3|

Vishnu after seeking permission of the Lord, moved like a servant at the command of a king.3.

naraaj chhand |

NARAAJ STANZA

saroop chhott dhaar kai |

(of Vishnu Brahman) assuming a small form

chaliyo tahaa bichaar kai |

Deliberately walked away from there.

sabhaa nares jaanayo |

After knowing the king's court

tahee su paav tthaanrayo |4|

He transformed himself ad a dwarf and after some reflection, he moved towards the court of the king Bali, where, on reaching, he stood firmly.4.

su bed chaar uchaar kai |

(That Brahmin) having recited well the four Vedas

sunayo nripan sudhaar kai |

This Brahmin recited all the four Vedas, which the king listened to attentively.

bulaae bip ko layo |

(The king) called the Brahmin (to him).

malayaagar moorrakaa dayo |5|

The king Bali then called th Brahmin and got him seated respectfully on a seat of sandalwood.5.

padaaragh deep daan dai |

(The king washed the Brahmin's) feet and performed the aarti

pradachhanaa anek kai |

The king quaffed the water, with which the feet of the Brahmin had been washed and offered charities.

karor dachhanaa dee |

(Then) crores of visions were given

n haath bip nai lee |6|

Then he circumambulated around the Brahmin several times, after that the king offered millions of charities, but the Brahmin did not touch anything with his hand.6.

kahiyo na mor kaaj hai |

(The Brahmin) said that it is none of my business.

mithayaa ih tor saaj hai |

The Brahmin said that all those things were of no use to him and all the ostentations offered by the king were false.

adtaae paav bhoom dai |

Grant (me) two and a half steps of land.

basekh poor keerat lai |7|

He then asked him to give only two and a half steps of the earth and accept the special eulogy.7.

chauapee |

CHAUPAI

jab dij aais bakhaanee baanee |

When the Brahmin spoke thus,

bhoopat sahat na jaanayo raanee |

When the Brahmin uttered these words, the king along with the queen could not understand its import.

pair adtaae bhoonm de kahee |

(Srestha Brahmin) asked to give two and a half steps

drirr kar baat dijotam gahee |8|

That Brahmin again said the same thing with determination that he had asked only for two and a half steps of the earth.8.

dijabar sukr huto nrip teeraa |

At that time, the state-priest Shukracharya was with the king.

jaan gayo sabh bhed vajeeraa |

Shukracharya, the preceptor of the king was with him at that time, and he alongwith all the ministers comprehended the mystery of asking only for earth.

jiyo jiyo den prithavee nrip kahai |

As the King speaks of giving Prithvi,

tim tim naeh purohit gahai |9|

As many times the king orders for the donation of the earth, for so many times the preceptor Shukracharya asks him not to agree to it.9.

jab nrip den dharaa man keenaa |

When the king made up his mind to give the land,

tab hee utar sukr im deenaa |

But when the king made up his mind firmly to give the required earth as alms, then Shukracharya giving his reply said this to the king,

lagh dij yaeh na bhoop pachhaano |

"O king! Don't think of this as a little brahmin,

bisan avataar isee kar maano |10|

“O king! do not consider him a small-sized Brahmin, consider him only as an incarnation of Vishnu.”10.

sunat bachan daanav sabh hase |

(After listening to Shukracharya) all the giants started laughing

aucharat sukr kahaa ghar base |

Hearing this, all the demons laughed and said: “Shukracharya is only thinking of useless thing,”

sasik samaan na dij meh maasaa |

This Brahmin does not have any flesh.

kas karahai ih jag binaasaa |11|

“The Brahmin, whose body doth not contain the flesh more than a rabbit, how can he destroy the world?”11.

doharaa |

DOHRA

sukrobaach |

Shukracharya said :

jim chinagaaree agan kee girat saghan ban maeh |

“The manner in which only a spark of fire, falling down, grows immensely in stature

adhik tanik te hot hai tim dijabar nar naeh |12|

“Likewise this small-sized Brahmin is not a man.”12.

chauapee |

CHAUPAI

has bhoopat ih baat bakhaanee |

King Bali laughed and said,

sunaho sukr tum baat na jaanee |

The king Bali, laughingly, said these words to Shukracharya: “O Shukracharya! You are not comprehending it, I shall not regain such an occasion,
