ਰੂਆਲ ਛੰਦ ॥
rooaal chhand |ROOAAL STANZA
ਸਾਜਿ ਸਾਜਿ ਚਲੇ ਤਹਾ ਰਣਿ ਰਾਛਸੇਾਂਦ੍ਰ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
saaj saaj chale tahaa ran raachhaseaandr anek |Decorating their forces many demon-generals marched towards the battlefield.
ਅਰਧ ਮੁੰਡਿਤ ਮੁੰਡਿਤੇਕ ਜਟਾ ਧਰੇ ਸੁ ਅਰੇਕ ॥
aradh munddit mundditek jattaa dhare su arek |Many warriors are with half-shaven heads, many with fullshaven hads and many are with matted hair.
ਕੋਪਿ ਓਪੰ ਦੈ ਸਬੈ ਕਰਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਚਾਇ ॥
kop opan dai sabai kar sasatr asatr nachaae |All of them in great fury, are causing the dance of their weapons and armour.
ਧਾਇ ਧਾਇ ਕਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਨ ਤਿਛ ਤੇਗ ਕੰਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੬੮॥
dhaae dhaae karai prahaaran tichh teg kanpaae |4|68|They are running and striking blows, causing their sharp swords to shake and glitter. 4.68
ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਲਗੇ ਜਿਤੇ ਸਬ ਫੂਲ ਮਾਲ ਹੁਐ ਗਏ ॥
sasatr asatr lage jite sab fool maal huaai ge |All the blows of weapons and arms, which struck the goddess, they appeared as garlands of flowers around her neck.
ਕੋਪ ਓਪ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਅਤਿਭੁਤ ਦਾਨਵੰ ਬਿਸਮੈ ਭਏ ॥
kop op bilok atibhut daanavan bisamai bhe |Seeing this all the demons were filled with anger and astonishment.
ਦਉਰ ਦਉਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਆਯੁਧ ਫੇਰਿ ਫੇਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਹੀ ॥
daur daur anek aayudh fer fer prahaarahee |Many of them, running ahead repeatedly strike blows with their weapons.
ਜੂਝਿ ਜੂਝਿ ਗਿਰੈ ਅਰੇਕ ਸੁ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਪੁਕਾਰਹੀ ॥੫॥੬੯॥
joojh joojh girai arek su maar maar pukaarahee |5|69|And with shouts of “kill, kill”, they are fighting and falling down.5.69.
ਰੇਲਿ ਰੇਲਿ ਚਲੇ ਹਏਾਂਦ੍ਰਨ ਪੇਲਿ ਪੇਲਿ ਗਜੇਾਂਦ੍ਰ ॥
rel rel chale heaandran pel pel gajeaandr |The horse-rider generals are driving forward theh horses and the elephant-rider generals are goading their elephants.
ਝੇਲਿ ਝੇਲਿ ਅਨੰਤ ਆਯੁਧ ਹੇਲਿ ਹੇਲਿ ਰਿਪੇਾਂਦ੍ਰ ॥
jhel jhel anant aayudh hel hel ripeaandr |Facing unlimited weapons, the enemies’ generals, enduring the blows, are still making an assault.
ਗਾਹਿ ਗਾਹਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਫਵਜਨ ਬਾਹਿ ਬਾਹਿ ਖਤੰਗ ॥
gaeh gaeh fire favajan baeh baeh khatang |The armies crushing the warriors are marching forward and showering their arrows.
ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗ ਗਿਰੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਰਣਿ ਰੰਗ ਸੂਰ ਉਤੰਗ ॥੬॥੭੦॥
ang bhang gire kahoon ran rang soor utang |6|70|Many heroic fighters, becoming limbless, have fallen down in the battlefield.6.70.
ਝਾਰਿ ਝਾਰਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਸਰੋਤਮ ਡਾਰਿ ਝਾਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ॥
jhaar jhaar fire sarotam ddaar jhaar kripaan |Some where the shafts are falling like rain-showers and somewhere the swords are striking blows collectively.
ਸੈਲ ਸੇ ਰਣਿ ਪੁੰਜ ਕੁੰਜਰ ਸੂਰ ਸੀਸ ਬਖਾਨ ॥
sail se ran punj kunjar soor sees bakhaan |The elephants seen together are like stony rocks and the heads of the warriors appear like stones.
ਬਕ੍ਰ ਨਕ੍ਰ ਭੁਜਾ ਸੁ ਸੋਭਿਤ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਸੇ ਰਥ ਚਕ੍ਰ ॥
bakr nakr bhujaa su sobhit chakr se rath chakr |The crooked arms appear like octopus and the chariot wheels are like tortoises.
ਕੇਸ ਪਾਸਿ ਸਿਬਾਲ ਸੋਹਤ ਅਸਥ ਚੂਰ ਸਰਕ੍ਰ ॥੭॥੭੧॥
kes paas sibaal sohat asath choor sarakr |7|71|The hair seem like noose and scum and the crushed bones like sand.7.71.
ਸਜਿ ਸਜਿ ਚਲੇ ਹਥਿਆਰਨ ਗਜਿ ਗਜਿ ਗਜੇਾਂਦ੍ਰ ॥
saj saj chale hathiaaran gaj gaj gajeaandr |The warriors have bedecked themselves with weapons and the elephants are roaring wihil moving forward.
ਬਜਿ ਬਜਿ ਸਬਜ ਬਾਜਨ ਭਜਿ ਭਜਿ ਹਏਾਂਦ੍ਰ ॥
baj baj sabaj baajan bhaj bhaj heaandr |The horse-riding warriors are speedily moving with the sounds of various types of musical instruments.
ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਹਥੀਆਰ ਹਾਥਿ ਸੰਭਾਰ ॥
maar maar pukaar kai hatheeaar haath sanbhaar |Holding their weapons in their hands, the heroes are shouting “kill, kill”.
ਧਾਇ ਧਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਨਿਸਾਚ ਬਾਇ ਸੰਖ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੮॥੭੨॥
dhaae dhaae pare nisaach baae sankh apaar |8|72|Blowing many conches, the demons are running in the battlefield.8.72.
ਸੰਖ ਗੋਯਮੰ ਗਜੀਯੰ ਅਰੁ ਸਜੀਯੰ ਰਿਪੁਰਾਜ ॥
sankh goyaman gajeeyan ar sajeeyan ripuraaj |The conches and horns are being blown loudly and the generals of the enemy are ready for war.
ਭਾਜਿ ਭਾਜਿ ਚਲੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਬੀਰ ਨਿਲਾਜ ॥
bhaaj bhaaj chale kite taj laaj beer nilaaj |Somewhere the cowards, forsaking their shame, are running away.
ਭੀਮ ਭੇਰੀ ਭੁੰਕੀਅੰ ਅਰੁ ਧੁੰਕੀਅੰ ਸੁ ਨਿਸਾਣ ॥
bheem bheree bhunkeean ar dhunkeean su nisaan |The sound of large-sized drums is being heard and the flags are fluttering.
ਗਾਹਿ ਗਾਹਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਫਵਜਨ ਬਾਹਿ ਬਾਹਿ ਗਦਾਣ ॥੯॥੭੩॥
gaeh gaeh fire favajan baeh baeh gadaan |9|73|The forces are roaming and striking their maces.9.73.
ਬੀਰ ਕੰਗਨੇ ਬੰਧਹੀ ਅਰੁ ਅਛਰੈ ਸਿਰ ਤੇਲੁ ॥
beer kangane bandhahee ar achharai sir tel |The heavenly maids are bedecking themselves and offering ornaments to the warriors.
ਬੀਰ ਬੀਨਿ ਬਰੇ ਬਰੰਗਨ ਡਾਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਫੁਲੇਲ ॥
beer been bare barangan ddaar ddaar fulel |Selecting their heroes, the heavenly ladies are being bound with them in wedlock by showrering the oil impregnated with the essence of flowers.
ਘਾਲਿ ਘਾਲਿ ਬਿਵਾਨ ਲੇਗੀ ਫੇਰਿ ਫੇਰਿ ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ॥
ghaal ghaal bivaan legee fer fer su beer |They have taken away the warriors with them in their vehicles.
ਕੂਦਿ ਕੂਦਿ ਪਰੇ ਤਹਾ ਤੇ ਝਾਗਿ ਝਾਗਿ ਸੁ ਤੀਰ ॥੧੦॥੭੪॥
kood kood pare tahaa te jhaag jhaag su teer |10|74|The heroes inebriated for fighting in thhe war, jump from the vehicles and being shot with arrows, fall down below.10.74
ਹਾਕਿ ਹਾਕਿ ਲਰੇ ਤਹਾ ਰਣਿ ਰੀਝਿ ਰੀਝਿ ਭਟੇਾਂਦ੍ਰ ॥
haak haak lare tahaa ran reejh reejh bhatteaandr |Delightfully shouting in the battlefield, the heroic generals have waged war.
ਜੀਤਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਲਯੋ ਜਿਨੈ ਕਈ ਬਾਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਉਪੇਾਂਦ੍ਰ ॥
jeet jeet layo jinai kee baar indr upeaandr |Who had several times conquered the king and other chieftains of gods.
ਕਾਟਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਦਏ ਕਪਾਲੀ ਬਾਟਿ ਬਾਟਿ ਦਿਸਾਨ ॥
kaatt kaatt de kapaalee baatt baatt disaan |Whom Durga (Kapali) chpped and threw in various directions.
ਡਾਟਿ ਡਾਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਦਲੰ ਸੁਰ ਪਗੁ ਪਬ ਪਿਸਾਨ ॥੧੧॥੭੫॥
ddaatt ddaatt kar dalan sur pag pab pisaan |11|75|And with those who had ground the mountains with the strength of their hands and feet 11.75.
ਧਾਇ ਧਾਇ ਸੰਘਾਰੀਅੰ ਰਿਪੁ ਰਾਜ ਬਾਜ ਅਨੰਤ ॥
dhaae dhaae sanghaareean rip raaj baaj anant |The enemies speedily marching agead are killing countless horses.
ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਕੀ ਸਰਤਾ ਉਠੀ ਰਣ ਮਧਿ ਰੂਪ ਦੁਰੰਤ ॥
sron kee sarataa utthee ran madh roop durant |And in the battlefield, the terrible stream of blood is flowing.
ਬਾਣ ਅਉਰ ਕਮਾਣ ਸੈਹਥੀ ਸੂਲ ਤਿਛੁ ਕੁਠਾਰ ॥
baan aaur kamaan saihathee sool tichh kutthaar |The weapons like bow and arrows, sword, trident and sharpo axe are being used.
ਚੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਹਣੇ ਦੋਊ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਕਾਲਿ ਕ੍ਰਵਾਰ ॥੧੨॥੭੬॥
chandd mundd hane doaoo kar kop kaal kravaar |12|76|The goddess Kali in great rage, struck down and killed both Chand and Mund.12.76.

ਚੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਮਾਰੇ ਦੋਊ ਕਾਲੀ ਕੋਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਵਾਰਿ ॥
chandd mundd maare doaoo kaalee kop kravaar |Kali in great rage, struck down both Chand and Mund and killed them.
ਅਉਰ ਜਿਤੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਹੁਤੀ ਛਿਨ ਮੋ ਦਈ ਸੰਘਾਰ ॥੧੩॥੭੭॥
aaur jitee sainaa hutee chhin mo dee sanghaar |13|77|And all the army, that was there, was destroyed in and instant.13.77.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਚੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਬਧਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਤਯੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤ ॥੩॥
eit sree bachitr naattake chanddee charitre chandd mundd badhah tritayo dhiaae sanpooranam sat subham sat |3|Here ends the Third Chapter entitled ‘Killing of Chad and Mund’ of Chandi Charitra in BACHITTAR NATAK.3.
ਅਥ ਰਕਤ ਬੀਰਜ ਜੁਧ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
ath rakat beeraj judh kathanan |Now the war with Rakat Biraj is described:

ਸੁਨੀ ਭੂਪ ਇਮ ਗਾਥ ਚੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਕਾਲੀ ਹਨੇ ॥
sunee bhoop im gaath chandd mundd kaalee hane |The demons-king heard this news that Kali had killed Chand and Mund.
ਬੈਠ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਸੋ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਤ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਏ ॥੧॥੭੮॥
baitth bhraat so bhraat mantr karat ih bidh bhe |1|78|Then the brothers sat and decided in this manner: 1.78.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਰਕਤਬੀਜ ਤਪ ਭੂਪਿ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥
rakatabeej tap bhoop bulaayo |Then the king called (to him) Rakta-Bij.
ਅਮਿਤ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇ ਤਹਾ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
amit darab de tahaa patthaayo |Then the king called Rakat Beej and sent him after giving him enormous wealth.
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਦਈ ਬਿਰੂਥਨ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
bahu bidh dee biroothan sangaa |He was also accompanied by a large army ('Biruthan').
ਹੈ ਗੈ ਰਥ ਪੈਦਲ ਚਤੁਰੰਗਾ ॥੨॥੭੯॥
hai gai rath paidal chaturangaa |2|79|He was also given various types of forces, which was fourfold: on horses, on elephants, on chariots and on foot.2.79.
ਰਕਤਬੀਜ ਦੈ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਨਗਾਰਾ ॥
rakatabeej dai chaliyo nagaaraa |The rakat-beez went on playing the nagara
ਦੇਵ ਲੋਗ ਲਉ ਸੁਨੀ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥
dev log lau sunee pukaaraa |Rakat Beej marched after sounding his trumpet, which was heard even in the habitation of gods.
ਕੰਪੀ ਭੂਮਿ ਗਗਨ ਥਹਰਾਨਾ ॥
kanpee bhoom gagan thaharaanaa |The earth trembled and the sky began to tremble.
ਦੇਵਨ ਜੁਤਿ ਦਿਵਰਾਜ ਡਰਾਨਾ ॥੩॥੮੦॥
devan jut divaraaj ddaraanaa |3|80|The earth ttrembled and the sky vibrated, all the godds including the king were filled with fear.3.80.
ਧਵਲਾ ਗਿਰਿ ਕੇ ਜਬ ਤਟ ਆਇ ॥
dhavalaa gir ke jab tatt aae |When (those giants) came near Mount Kailash
ਦੁੰਦਭਿ ਢੋਲ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਬਜਾਏ ॥
dundabh dtol mridang bajaae |When they came near the Kailash mountain, they sounded trumpets, drums and tabours.
ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸੁਨਾ ਕੁਲਾਹਲ ਕਾਨਾ ॥
jab hee sunaa kulaahal kaanaa |As soon as (the goddess) heard their cry with her ears (so the goddess)
ਉਤਰੀ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਨਾਨਾ ॥੪॥੮੧॥
autaree sasatr asatr lai naanaa |4|81|When the gods heard the noises with their ears, the goddess Durga descended the mountain, taking many weapons and arms.4.81.
ਛਹਬਰ ਲਾਇ ਬਰਖੀਯੰ ਬਾਣੰ ॥
chhahabar laae barakheeyan baanan |(He) shot a barrage of arrows
ਬਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਅਰੁ ਗਿਰੇ ਕਿਕਾਣੰ ॥
baaj raaj ar gire kikaanan |The goddess showered arrows like incessant rain, which caused the horses and their riders fall down.
ਢਹਿ ਢਹਿ ਪਰੇ ਸੁਭਟ ਸਿਰਦਾਰਾ ॥
dteh dteh pare subhatt siradaaraa |Good warriors and soldiers began to fall,
ਜਨੁ ਕਰ ਕਟੈ ਬਿਰਛ ਸੰਗ ਆਰਾ ॥੫॥੮੨॥
jan kar kattai birachh sang aaraa |5|82|Many warriors and their chieftainsfell, it seemed as if the trees had been sawed.5.82.
ਜੇ ਜੇ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਭਏ ॥
je je satr saamuhe bhe |Those who came before the enemy (of the goddess),
ਬਹੁਰ ਜੀਅਤ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੇ ਨਹੀ ਗਏ ॥
bahur jeeat grih ke nahee ge |Those enemies ho came in front of her, they could not again return to their homes alive.
ਜਿਹ ਪਰ ਪਰਤ ਭਈ ਤਰਵਾਰਾ ॥
jih par parat bhee taravaaraa |On whom the sword (of the goddess) struck
ਇਕਿ ਇਕਿ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਦੋ ਦੋ ਚਾਰਾ ॥੬॥੮੩॥
eik ik te bhe do do chaaraa |6|83|Those who were struck by the sword, they fell down in two halves or four quarters.6.83.
ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥
bhujang prayaat chhand |BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA
ਝਿਮੀ ਤੇਜ ਤੇਗੰ ਸੁਰੋਸੰ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੰ ॥
jhimee tej tegan surosan prahaaran |The sword which she has struck in ire
ਖਿਮੀ ਦਾਮਿਨੀ ਜਾਣ ਭਾਦੋ ਮਝਾਰੰ ॥
khimee daaminee jaan bhaado majhaaran |It hath hlistened like lightning in the month of Bhadon.
ਉਦੇ ਨਦ ਨਾਦੰ ਕੜਕੇ ਕਮਾਣੰ ॥
aude nad naadan karrake kamaanan |The jingling sound of bows appears like the sound of flowing stream.
ਮਚਿਯੋ ਲੋਹ ਕ੍ਰੋਹੰ ਅਭੂਤੰ ਭਯਾਣੰ ॥੭॥੮੪॥
machiyo loh krohan abhootan bhayaanan |7|84|And the steel-weapons have been struck in great anger, which appear unique and frightening.7.84.
ਬਜੇ ਭੇਰਿ ਭੇਰੀ ਜੁਝਾਰੇ ਝਣੰਕੇ ॥
baje bher bheree jujhaare jhananke |The sound of drums rises in the battle and the warriors glisten their weapons.
