ਬਡੋ ਮੁਨਾਰ ਉਸਾਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤਾ ਮੈ ਦਈ ਚਿਨਾਇ ॥੨੮॥
baddo munaar usaar triy taa mai dee chinaae |28|And by building a big tower, he marked the woman in it. 28.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਇਕ ਸੌ ਪਚਹਤਰਵੋ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੧੭੫॥੩੪੩੫॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਜਗਬੰਦਨ ਇਕ ਸਾਹੁ ਬਡੋ ਸੁ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
jagabandan ik saahu baddo su bakhaaniyai |There was a great king named Jagbandan
ਅਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਧਨੁ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
apramaan dhan jaa ke dhaam pramaaniyai |Whose house was considered to have immense wealth.
ਮਤੀ ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਸੁਭ ਤਾਹਿ ਭਨਿਜਿਯੈ ॥
matee su beer triyaa subh taeh bhanijiyai |Bir Mati was said to be his good wife.
ਹੋ ਸਸਿ ਕੌ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਬਦਨ ਕੀ ਦਿਜਿਯੈ ॥੧॥
ho sas kau jaa kee prabhaa badan kee dijiyai |1|The radiance of his face was compared to the moon. 1.

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਥ ਵਿਲਾਇਤ ਗਯੋ ॥
taa ko naath vilaaeit gayo |Her husband went abroad
ਆਵਤ ਮਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਸ ਨਹਿ ਭਯੋ ॥
aavat madr des neh bhayo |But (forever) Madra did not return to the country.
ਲਿਖਿ ਪਤਿਯਾ ਅਬਲਾ ਬਹੁ ਹਾਰੀ ॥
likh patiyaa abalaa bahu haaree |The lady got tired of writing letters to him,
ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਨਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
nij pat kee neh prabhaa nihaaree |2|But she did not see the face of her husband. 2.
ਤਿਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਅਧਿਕ ਉਪਾਇ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
tin triy adhik upaae banaae |That woman took many measures,
ਤਹ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ ਨਾਥ ਨਹਿ ਆਏ ॥
tah hee rahe naath neh aae |(But) the husband remained there, did not come (home).
ਲਾਲ ਮਿਲੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਲ ਕੁਲਾਈ ॥
laal mile bin baal kulaaee |Priya became distraught without meeting Preetam.
ਸਭ ਧਨ ਲੈ ਸੰਗ ਤਹੀ ਸਿਧਾਈ ॥੩॥
sabh dhan lai sang tahee sidhaaee |3|She went there with all the money. 3.
ਚੰਦ੍ਰਭਾਨ ਜਾਟੂ ਬਟਿਹਾਯੋ ॥
chandrabhaan jaattoo battihaayo |Chandrabhan was a raider ('Batihayo') named Jatu.
ਲੂਟਨ ਮਾਲ ਬਾਲ ਕੋ ਆਯੋ ॥
loottan maal baal ko aayo |(He came to rob that) woman.
ਜੋ ਕਰ ਚੜਿਯੋ ਛੀਨਿ ਸਭ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
jo kar charriyo chheen sabh leeno |He took everything he could get his hands on.
ਰੰਚ ਕੰਚ ਤਿਹ ਰਹਨ ਨ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੪॥
ranch kanch tih rahan na deeno |4|He was not allowed to have anything. 4.
ਭੁਜੰਗ ਛੰਦ ॥
bhujang chhand |Bhujang Verse:
ਜਬੈ ਮਾਲ ਕੋ ਲੂਟਿ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਸਿਧਾਏ ॥
jabai maal ko loott kai kai sidhaae |When they (Batmar and his companions) looted the goods and left.
ਤਬੈ ਕੂਕਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਰਿ ਬੈਨ੍ਰਯੋ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥
tabai kook kai naar bainrayo sunaae |Then the woman cried out,
ਸੁਨੋ ਬੈਨ ਭਾਈ ਇਹੈ ਕਾਜ ਕੀਜੋ ॥
suno bain bhaaee ihai kaaj keejo |O brothers! Listen, do this.
ਰਹੋ ਹ੍ਯਾਂ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਰਿ ਕੋ ਪੈਂਡ ਲੀਜੋ ॥੫॥
raho hayaan nahee door ko paindd leejo |5|Don't stay here, take a distant path. 5.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਜੌ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਨਾਥ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੈਹੈ ॥
jau ih baat naath sun laihai |If my husband will hear this
ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਜਾਨ ਏਕ ਨਹਿ ਦੈਹੈ ॥
tum te jaan ek neh daihai |So will not let even one of you go.
ਲੈਹੈ ਛੀਨਿ ਤਰੇ ਕੇ ਘੋਰਾ ॥
laihai chheen tare ke ghoraa |(He) will also take away the horse from under you.
ਤੁਮਰੋ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਜਿਯਬ ਜਗ ਥੋਰਾ ॥੬॥
tumaro rahiyo jiyab jag thoraa |6|(I think that) your life in the world is short. 6.
ਇਨ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਚਿਤ ਨਹਿ ਆਨੀ ॥
ein ih baat chit neh aanee |They did not take this matter into account.
ਮੂੜ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਬਰਰਾਤ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥
moorr triyaa bararaat pachhaanee |(And took it to be) the murmuring of a foolish woman.
ਯਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਥ ਹਮਰ ਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਹੈ ॥
yaa ko naath hamar kaa kar hai |What will her husband do to us?
ਸਹਸ ਸ੍ਵਾਰ ਕੋ ਏਕ ਸੰਘਾਰਿ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
sahas svaar ko ek sanghaar hai |7|(He) alone will kill a thousand riders.7.
ਲੂਟਿ ਸਕਲ ਧਨੁ ਜਬੈ ਸਿਧਾਏ ॥
loott sakal dhan jabai sidhaae |When they looted all the money and left
ਤਬ ਅਬਲਾ ਨਰ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
tab abalaa nar basatr banaae |Then the woman took on the clothes of the man.
ਕਟਿ ਸੋ ਕਸਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਤਿਯ ਲੀਨੀ ॥
katt so kas kripaan tiy leenee |He took the Kirpan with luck
ਕਸਿਸ ਕਮਾਨ ਕਰੈਰੀ ਕੀਨੀ ॥੮॥
kasis kamaan karairee keenee |8|And drew a stiff bow.8.
ਅਰੁਨ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਅਰੂੜਿਤ ਭਈ ॥
arun turang aroorrit bhee |She sat on a red horse
ਪਵਨ ਗਵਨ ਤੇ ਸੀਘ੍ਰ ਸਿਧਈ ॥
pavan gavan te seeghr sidhee |And moved faster than the speed of the wind.
ਜਾਇ ਸ੍ਵਾਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰ ਹੰਕਾਰੋ ॥
jaae svaar triy sahansr hankaaro |That woman went and entertained a thousand riders
ਕੈ ਧਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਕਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਭਾਰੋ ॥੯॥
kai dhan dehu ki sasatr sanbhaaro |9|Either give the money or take the weapon. 9.
ਸਭਹਿਨ ਕੋਪ ਬੈਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
sabhahin kop bain sun keeno |Everyone became very angry after hearing (this) speech
ਤਾ ਕੌ ਅਧਿਕ ਗਾਰਿਯਨ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
taa kau adhik gaariyan deeno |And abused him a lot.
ਤੋ ਤੇ ਮੂੜ ਕਹਾ ਹਮ ਡਰਿ ਹੈ ॥
to te moorr kahaa ham ddar hai |O fool! Should we be afraid of you?
ਸਹਸ ਸ੍ਵਾਰ ਏਕਲ ਤੇ ਟਰਿ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
sahas svaar ekal te ttar hai |10|And let a thousand riders run away from you alone. 10.
ਗਹਿ ਧਨੁ ਹਾਥ ਕੋਪ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਭਰੀ ॥
geh dhan haath kop triy bharee |Holding a bow in her hand, the woman was filled with anger
ਤੁਰੈ ਧਵਾਇ ਉਠਵਨੀ ਕਰੀ ॥
turai dhavaae utthavanee karee |And galloped ('Uthvani') the horse.
ਏਕ ਬਿਸਿਖ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਚਲਯੋ ॥
ek bisikh kar kop chalayo |He shot an arrow in anger
