ਲੈ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੋ ਜਾਰ ਜਬੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਇਯੋ ॥
lai raanee ko jaar jabai grih aaeiyo |When the friend came to (his) house with the queen
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੋ ਦਰਬੁ ਦਿਜਾਨੁ ਲੁਟਾਇਯੋ ॥
bhaat bhaat so darab dijaan luttaaeiyo |So wealth was distributed among the Brahmins in various ways.
ਜੌ ਐਸੀ ਅਬਲਾ ਕੌ ਛਲ ਸੌ ਪਾਇਯੈ ॥
jau aaisee abalaa kau chhal sau paaeiyai |If we get such a woman by deception
ਹੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਮਨ ਤਿਹ ਦਏ ਹਾਥ ਬਿਕਿ ਜਾਇਯੈ ॥੧੬॥
ho bin daaman tih de haath bik jaaeiyai |16|So let his hands be sold without any effort. 16.
ਛਲ ਅਬਲਾ ਛੈਲਨ ਕੋ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
chhal abalaa chhailan ko kachhoo na jaaniyai |Nothing can be understood of the cunning (charitra) of clever women.
ਲਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਜਾ ਕੌ ਜਾਇ ਸੁ ਕੈਸ ਬਖਾਇਨੈ ॥
lahiyo na jaa kau jaae su kais bakhaaeinai |How to explain what cannot be understood.
ਜੁ ਕਛੁ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਇਨ ਕੇ ਛਲ ਕੌ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਇਯੈ ॥
ju kachh chhidr in ke chhal kau lakh paaeiyai |If any weakness is found in their character
ਹੋ ਸਮੁਝਿ ਚਿਤ ਚੁਪ ਰਹੋ ਨ ਕਿਸੂ ਬਤਾਇਯੈ ॥੧੭॥
ho samujh chit chup raho na kisoo bataaeiyai |17|So understand and keep quiet, don't tell anyone. 17.

ਸਹਿਰ ਸਿਪਾਹਾ ਕੈ ਬਿਖੈ ਭਗਵਤੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਏਕ ॥
sahir sipaahaa kai bikhai bhagavatee triy ek |In the city of Sipaha there was a woman named Bhagwati.
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਮੈ ਘੋਰੀ ਰਹੈ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੧॥
taa ke pat ke dhaam mai ghoree rahai anek |1|There were many horses in her husband's house. 1.

ਘੋਰੀ ਏਕ ਨਦੀ ਤਟ ਗਈ ॥
ghoree ek nadee tatt gee |One of his mare went to the bank of the river.
ਦਰਿਆਈ ਹੈ ਲਾਗਤ ਭਈ ॥
dariaaee hai laagat bhee |She became attached to a hippopotamus.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਏਕ ਬਛੇਰੋ ਭਯੋ ॥
taa te ek bachhero bhayo |A foal was born from her,
ਜਨੁ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਲਯੋ ॥੨॥
jan avataar indr hai layo |2|As if Indra's horse had taken incarnation. 2.
ਸਕ੍ਰ ਬਰਨ ਅਤਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
sakr baran at taeh biraajai |He had a beautiful white ('Skr'-Indra-like) complexion
ਤਾ ਕੌ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਲਾਜੈ ॥
taa kau nirakh chandramaa laajai |Seeing which even the moon used to be ashamed.
ਚਮਕਿ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
chamak chaliyo ih bhaat suhaavai |When he walks (so it seems)
ਜਨੁ ਘਨ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਦਾਮਨੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
jan ghan prabhaa daamanee paavai |3|It is as if there is electricity in the alternatives. 3.
ਤਾ ਕੌ ਲੈ ਬੇਚਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਗਈ ॥
taa kau lai bechan triy gee |(She) went to the woman to take him and sell him.
ਸਹਿਰ ਸਾਹ ਕੇ ਆਵਤ ਭਈ ॥
sahir saah ke aavat bhee |Came to the king's city.
ਆਪੁਨ ਭੇਸ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੋ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
aapun bhes purakh ko dhaare |(He) disguised himself as a man,
ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਰ ਜਨ ਚੜੇ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੪॥
kott soor jan charre savaare |4|It was like the rising of millions of suns. 4.
ਜਬੈ ਸਾਹ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
jabai saah deevaan lagaayo |When the Shah held a Diwan (council).
ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਤੁਰੈ ਲੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਯੋ ॥
triyaa turai lai taeh dikhaayo |The woman brought the horse and showed it to him.
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਰੀਝਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਤਿਹ ਰਹਿਯੋ ॥
nirakh reejh raajaa tih rahiyo |The king was happy to see him.
ਲੀਜੈ ਮੋਲ ਤਿਸੈ ਚਿਤ ਚਹਿਯੋ ॥੫॥
leejai mol tisai chit chahiyo |5|I thought about buying him a price. 5.
ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਿ ਤੁਰੈ ਫਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
pratham hukam kar turai firaayo |First (the king) ordered the horse to move.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਭੇਜਿ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੋਲ ਕਰਾਯੋ ॥
bahur bhej bhrit mol karaayo |Then he sent the servants and paid the price.
ਟਕਾ ਲਾਖ ਦਸ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਰੀ ॥
ttakaa laakh das keemat paree |He was worth ten lakh taka
ਮਿਲਿ ਗਿਲਿ ਮੋਲ ਦਲਾਲਨ ਕਰੀ ॥੬॥
mil gil mol dalaalan karee |6|The brokers agreed (so much) price. 6.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਤਬ ਅਬਲਾ ਤਿਨ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੇ ਬਿਹਸਿ ਕਰਿ ॥
tab abalaa tin bachan uchaare bihas kar |Then that woman laughed and said like this, O Shah!
ਲੀਜੈ ਹਮਰੋ ਬੈਨ ਸਾਹ ਤੂ ਸ੍ਰੋਨ ਧਰਿ ॥
leejai hamaro bain saah too sron dhar |Listen to me.
ਪਾਚ ਹਜਾਰ ਮੁਹਰ ਮੁਹਿ ਹ੍ਯਾਂ ਦੈ ਜਾਇਯੈ ॥
paach hajaar muhar muhi hayaan dai jaaeiyai |Give me five thousand stamps here.
ਹੋ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਤਬੇਲੇਮ ਤੁਰੈ ਬੰਧਾਇਯੈ ॥੭॥
ho lai kai bahur tabelem turai bandhaaeiyai |7|Then take the horse and tie it in your stable.7.
ਸਾਹ ਅਸਰਫੀ ਪਾਚ ਹਜਾਰ ਮੰਗਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
saah asarafee paach hajaar mangaae kai |Shah ordered five thousand Ashrafis
ਚਰੇ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਤਿਹ ਦੀਨੀ ਕਰ ਪਕਰਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
chare turang tih deenee kar pakaraae kai |And in his hand he mounted the horse and held it.
ਕਹਿਯੋ ਮੁਹਰ ਪਹੁਚਾਇ ਬਹੁਰ ਮੈ ਆਇ ਹੌ ॥
kahiyo muhar pahuchaae bahur mai aae hau |(Then he) said, I am coming again after delivering the seals (home).
ਹੋ ਤਾ ਪਾਛੇ ਘੁਰਸਾਰਹਿ ਘੋਰ ਬੰਧਾਇ ਹੌ ॥੮॥
ho taa paachhe ghurasaareh ghor bandhaae hau |8|And after this I tie the horse in your stable. 8.
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਸੌ ਬਚਨ ਧਵਾਯੋ ਤੁਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ॥
yau keh tin sau bachan dhavaayo turai triy |After saying this to them, the woman drove away the horse.
ਪਠੈ ਪਖਰਿਯਾ ਪਹੁਚੇ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਕੋਪ ਹਿਯ ॥
patthai pakhariyaa pahuche kar kai kop hiy |The king got angry and sent the horse riders behind.
ਕੋਸ ਡੇਢ ਸੈ ਲਗੇ ਹਟੇ ਸਭ ਹਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
kos ddedt sai lage hatte sabh haar kai |After walking one and a half hundred hills, they all left tired.
ਹੋ ਹਾਥ ਨ ਆਈ ਬਾਲ ਰਹੇ ਸਿਰ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥੯॥
ho haath na aaee baal rahe sir maar kai |9|That woman did not come, they were left with their heads down. 9.
ਮੁਹਰੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਪਹੁਚਾਇ ਸੁ ਆਈ ਬਾਲ ਤਹ ॥
muharai grih pahuchaae su aaee baal tah |That woman came there after delivering the stamps to the house
ਬੈਠੋ ਚਾਰੁ ਬਨਾਇ ਸਾਹ ਜੂ ਸਭਾ ਜਹ ॥
baittho chaar banaae saah joo sabhaa jah |Where the Shah was sitting in a beautiful court.
