ਲਾਜ ਆਪਨੇ ਨਾਉ ਕੀ ਕਹੋ ਕਹਾ ਭਜਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੧੬੮੭॥
laaj aapane naau kee kaho kahaa bhaj jaau |1687|I have to justify my name, then you may tell, where should I run away?1687.
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥
savaiyaa |SWAYYA
ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਮੋ ਬਤੀਆ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੈ ਚਿਤ ਦੈ ਦੁਹ ਸ੍ਰਉਨਨ ਮੈ ਧਰੀਐ ॥
chaturaanan mo bateea sun lai chit dai duh sraunan mai dhareeai |“O Brahma! Listen to me and hearing with your ears, adopt it in your mind
ਉਪਮਾ ਕੋ ਜਬੈ ਉਮਗੈ ਮਨ ਤਉ ਉਪਮਾ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
aupamaa ko jabai umagai man tau upamaa bhagavaan hee kee kareeai |When the mind wishes to praise, then only the Lord should be praised
ਪਰੀਐ ਨਹੀ ਆਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਇਨ ਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਦਿਜ ਕੇ ਪਰੀਐ ॥
pareeai nahee aan ke paaein pai har ke gur ke dij ke pareeai |“None other’s feet should be worshiped except those of God, Guru and Brahmin
ਜਿਹ ਕੋ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰ ਮੈ ਨਾਉ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਹ ਸੋ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਰੀਐ ਤਰੀਐ ॥੧੬੮੮॥
jih ko jug chaar mai naau japai tih so lar kai mareeai tareeai |1688|He, who is worshiped in all the four ages, one should fight with him, die at his hands and ferry across the dreadful ocean of samsara through his grace.1688.
ਜਾ ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ ਸੇਸ ਤੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਖੋਜਤ ਹੈ ਕਛੁ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
jaa sanakaadik ses te aadik khojat hai kachh ant na paayo |He, whom Sanak, Sheshnaga etc. search and still they do now know His mystery
ਚਉਦਹ ਲੋਕਨ ਬੀਚ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਕ ਬ੍ਯਾਸ ਮਹਾ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਸੁ ਗਾਯੋ ॥
chaudah lokan beech sadaa suk bayaas mahaa kab sayaam su gaayo |He, whose praises are sung by Shukdev, Vyas etc. in all the fourteen world
ਜਾਹੀ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਧੂਅ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਅਛੈ ਪਦ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
jaahee ke naam prataap hoon te dhooa so prahalaad achhai pad paayo |“And with Glory of whose name Dhruva and Prahlad attained eternal state,
ਸੋ ਅਬ ਮੋ ਸੰਗ ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰੈ ਜਿਹ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਹਾਯੋ ॥੧੬੮੯॥
so ab mo sang judh karai jih sreedhar sree har naam kahaayo |1689|That Lord should fight with me.”1689.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਏ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਤ ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਯੋ ॥
chaturaanan e bachan sunat chakrit bhayo |Brahma was surprised to hear this word
ਬਿਸਨ ਭਗਤ ਕੋ ਤਬੈ ਭੂਪ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਲਯੋ ॥
bisan bhagat ko tabai bhoop chit mai layo |Hearing these world, Brahma was wonder-struck and on this side the king absorbed his mind in the devotion of Vishnu
ਸਾਧ ਸਾਧ ਕਰਿ ਬੋਲਿਓ ਬਦਨ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਕੈ ॥
saadh saadh kar bolio badan nihaar kai |Seeing (the king's) face, (Brahma) spoke saying blessed.
ਹੋ ਮੋਨ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਗਹਿ ਕਮਲਜ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕੈ ॥੧੬੯੦॥
ho mon rahiyo geh kamalaj prem bichaar kai |1690|Seeing the face of the king, Brahma shouted ‘Sadhu, Sadhu’ and observing his love (for the Lord), he became silent.1690.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥
bahur bidhaataa bhoopat ko ih bidh kahiyo |Then Brahma addressed the king thus,
ਭਗਤਿ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਕੋ ਤਤੁ ਭਲੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਤੈ ਲਹਿਯੋ ॥
bhagat gayaan ko tat bhalee bidh tai lahiyo |Brahma said to the again, “O King! you have very nicely understood the elements of devotion,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਬ ਤਨ ਸਾਥਹਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੀਐ ॥
taa te ab tan saatheh surag sidhaareeai |So now go to heaven with your body.
ਹੋ ਮੁਕਤ ਓਰ ਕਰਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨ ਜੁਧ ਨਿਹਾਰੀਐ ॥੧੬੯੧॥
ho mukat or kar drisatt na judh nihaareeai |1691|“Therefore you should go to heaven alongwith your body and getting salvation, do not look towards the side of war.”1691.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਭੂਪ ਜਬ ਤਬ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਕਹ ਕੀਨ ॥
kahiyo na maanai bhoop jab tab brahame kah keen |What did Brahma do when the king refused?
ਨਾਰਦ ਕੋ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕੀਓ ਮੁਨਿ ਆਯੋ ਪਰਬੀਨ ॥੧੬੯੨॥
naarad ko simaran keeo mun aayo parabeen |1692|When the king did not follow the desire of Brahma, then Brahma thought of Narada and Narada reached there.1692.

ਤਬ ਹੀ ਮੁਨਿ ਨਾਰਦ ਆਇ ਗਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਇਕ ਬੈਨ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
tab hee mun naarad aae gayo tih bhoopat ko ik bain sunaayo |On coming there, Narada said to the king,
