ਨੰਦ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਗਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਬਹੁ ਆਦਰ ਤਾਹਿ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਨੰਦ ਰਾਨੀ ॥

nand ke dhaam gayo tab hee bahu aadar taeh kariyo nand raanee |

Accepting the saying of Vasudev, the Brahmin Garg quickly started for Gokul and reached the house of Nand, where he was warmly received by the wife of Nand.

ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਕਹਿਓ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਬਖਾਨੀ ॥

naam su krisan kahio ih ko kar maan lee ih baat bakhaanee |

The Brahmin gave the name Krishna to the boy, which was accepted by all, then he, studying the date and time of the birth of the boy, pointed out the coming mysterious events in the life of the boy.96.

ਲਾਇ ਲਗੰਨ ਨਛਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋਧਿ ਕਹੀ ਸਮਝਾਇ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥੯੬॥

laae lagan nachhatran sodh kahee samajhaae akath kahaanee |96|

(Garga) narrated the untold story (of Krishna) by applying diligence and modifying the constellations. 96.

DOHRA

ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨਾਮ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਗਰਗਹਿ ਮਨੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥

krisan naam taa ko dhariyo garageh manai bichaar |

Garga thought in his mind and named him 'Krisan'.

ਸਿਆਮ ਪਲੋਟੈ ਪਾਇ ਜਿਹ ਇਹ ਸਮ ਮਨੋ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੯੭॥

siaam palottai paae jih ih sam mano muraar |97|

Garg thought out in his mind and gave the name of Krishna to the boy and when the boy raised his feet, it seemed to the Pundit that he was similar to that of Vishnu.97.

ਸੁਕਲ ਬਰਨ ਸਤਿਜੁਗਿ ਭਏ ਪੀਤ ਬਰਨ ਤ੍ਰੇਤਾਇ ॥

sukal baran satijug bhe peet baran tretaae |

In Satyuga, the white-colored (Hansavatar) became and in Treta, the yellow-colored (armored Ram became).

ਪੀਤ ਬਰਨ ਪਟ ਸਿਆਮ ਤਨ ਨਰ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯੮॥

peet baran patt siaam tan nar naahan ke naeh |98|

The black colour is the symbol of Satyuga and the yellow of Treta, but wearing the yellow clothes and having the body of dark colour, both of these are not the characteristics of ordinary men.98.

SWAYYA

ਅੰਨ੍ਰਯ ਦਯੋ ਗਰਗੈ ਜਬ ਨੰਦਹਿ ਤਉ ਉਠਿ ਕੈ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਤਟਿ ਆਯੋ ॥

anray dayo garagai jab nandeh tau utth kai jamunaa tatt aayo |

When Nand presented the alms of corn to Garg, he, taking all, came to the banks of Yamuna in order to cook food

ਨ੍ਰਹਾਇ ਕਟੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਧੁਤੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਅਰੁ ਦੇਵਨ ਭੋਗ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥

nrahaae kattai kar kai dhuteea har ko ar devan bhog lagaayo |

After taking bath, he offered food to gods and the Lord while he was remembering the Lord, Krishna

ਆਇ ਗਏ ਨੰਦ ਲਾਲ ਤਬੈ ਕਰ ਸੋ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥

aae ge nand laal tabai kar so geh kai apune mukh paayo |

The son of Nand reached there and taking the food from the hand of Garg, he ate it

ਚਕ੍ਰਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਯੋ ਪੇਖਿ ਤਬੈ ਤਿਹ ਅੰਨ੍ਰਯ ਸਭੈ ਇਨ ਭੀਟਿ ਗਵਾਯੋ ॥੯੯॥

chakrat hvai gayo pekh tabai tih anray sabhai in bheett gavaayo |99|

The Brahmin, in wonder, began to see this and think that this boy with his touch had soiled his food.99.

ਫੇਰਿ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਤੇ ਨਹਿ ਬਾਲਕ ਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਹੈ ॥

fer bichaar kariyo man mai ih te neh baalak pai har jee hai |

(Garga) thought again in his mind, (that) this is (not) a child but Hariji Himself.

ਮਾਨਸ ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਆਤਮ ਕੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਨ ਸੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਰਜੀ ਹੈ ॥

maanas panch bhoo aatam ko mil kai tin so karataa sarajee hai |

Then the Pundit though in his mind, how can he be a boy?, this is some illusion. The creator has created this world with the unison of the mind, five elements and the soul

ਯਾਦ ਕਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਇਹ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਧ ਕੋ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਜੀ ਹੈ ॥

yaad karee mamataa ih kaaran madh ko door karai karajee hai |

I had been merely remembering Nand Lal and this will be my illusion

ਮੂੰਦ ਲਈ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਯੌ ਪਟ ਸੌ ਤਨ ਢਾਪਤ ਜਿਉ ਦਰਜੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੦॥

moond lee tih kee mat yau patt sau tan dtaapat jiau darajee hai |100|

That Brahmin could not recognize and his intellect closed down just as the tailor covers the body with a cloth.100.

ਨੰਦ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਾਰ ਭਯੋ ਜਬ ਤੋ ਮਨਿ ਬਾਮਨ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

nand kumaar tribaar bhayo jab to man baaman krodh kario hai |

When the same thing happened thrice, the Brahmin’s mind was filled with rage

ਮਾਤ ਖਿਝੀ ਜਸੁਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਗਹਿ ਕੈ ਉਰ ਆਪਨੇ ਲਾਇ ਧਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

maat khijhee jasudaa har ko geh kai ur aapane laae dhario hai |

The mother Yashoda cried at such saying and she hugged Krishna to her bosom

ਬੋਲ ਉਠੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਤਬੈ ਇਹ ਦੋਸ ਨ ਹੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

bol utthe bhagavaan tabai ih dos na hai muhi yaad kario hai |

Then Krishna said that he was not to be blamed for this, this Brahmin is only to be blamed.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜਾਨ ਲਈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਉਠ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਤਬ ਪਾਇ ਪਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥੧੦੧॥

panddit jaan lee man mai utth kai tih ke tab paae pario hai |101|

He remembered me thrice for eating food and I have gone there hearing this, the Brahmin realised in his mind and getting up, he touched the feet of Krishna.101.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਨੰਦ ਦਾਨ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਦਯੋ ਕਹ ਲਉ ਕਹੋ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥

nand daan taa kau dayo kah lau kaho sunaae |

The charity given by Nand to the Brahmin cannot be described

ਗਰਗ ਆਪਨੇ ਘਰਿ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਮਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਮੁਦ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧੦੨॥

garag aapane ghar chaliyo mahaa pramud man paae |102|

With happy mind, Garg went to his home.102.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਵਤਾਰੇ ਨਾਮਕਰਨ ਬਰਨਨੰ ॥

ਬਾਲਕ ਰੂਪ ਧਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਪਲਨਾ ਪਰ ਝੂਲਤ ਹੈ ਤਬ ਕੈਸੇ ॥

baalak roop dhare har jee palanaa par jhoolat hai tab kaise |

Then how is Hariji swinging on the cradle in the form of a child?

ਮਾਤ ਲਡਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੌ ਔ ਝੁਲਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਕੈਸੇ ॥

maat laddaavat hai tih kau aau jhulaavat hai kar mohit kaise |

Krishna is swinging in the cradle in the form of a boy and his mother is oscillating him with affection

ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੀ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਐਸੇ ॥

taa chhab kee upamaa at hee kab sayaam kahee mukh te fun aaise |

The poet Shyam Kavi has said this from (his) face:

ਭੂਮਿ ਦੁਖੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਲਤ ਹੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਦੈਤਨ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੧੦੩॥

bhoom dukhee man mai at hee jan paalat hai rip daitan jaise |103|

The poet has described the simile of this beautiful scene in this way, just as the earth sustains both friends and foes equally, in the same way, the mother Yashoda, knowing fully well the possibilities of the difficulties in bringing up Krishna, is susta

ਭੂਖ ਲਗੀ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਪੈ ਜਸੁਧਾ ਥਨ ਕੌ ਤਿਨਿ ਚਾਹਿਯੋ ॥

bhookh lagee jab hee har ko tab pai jasudhaa than kau tin chaahiyo |

When Krishna became hungry, he wanted to drink his mother Yashoda’s milk

ਮਾਤ ਉਠੀ ਨ ਭਯੋ ਮਨ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ ਤਬੈ ਪਗ ਸੋ ਮਹਿ ਗੋਡ ਕੈ ਬਾਹਿਯੋ ॥

maat utthee na bhayo man krudh tabai pag so meh godd kai baahiyo |

He moved his foot with force, the mother got up without getting angry

ਤੇਲ ਧਰਿਓ ਅਰੁ ਘੀਉ ਭਰਿਓ ਛੁਟਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਜਸੁ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਸਰਾਹਿਯੋ ॥

tel dhario ar gheeo bhario chhutt bhoom pariyo jas sayaam saraahiyo |

This vessels full of oil and ghee fell down from her hands on the earth

ਹੋਤ ਕੁਲਾਹਲ ਮਧ ਪੁਰੀ ਧਰਨੀ ਕੋ ਮਨੋ ਸਭ ਸੋਕ ਸੁ ਲਾਹਿਯੋ ॥੧੦੪॥

hot kulaahal madh puree dharanee ko mano sabh sok su laahiyo |104|

The poet Shyam visualized this scene in his imagination on the other hand, hearing about the killing of Putna, there was great tumult in Braja country and the suffering of the earth ended.104.

ਧਾਇ ਗਏ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਲੋਕ ਸਬੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਤਿਨ ਅਪਨੇ ਕੰਠ ਲਗਾਏ ॥

dhaae ge brij lok sabai har jee tin apane kantth lagaae |

All the people of Braja came running and everyone of them hugged Krishna

ਅਉਰ ਸਭੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਲੋਕ ਬਧੂ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਾਤਨ ਭਾਤਨ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਏ ॥

aaur sabhai brij lok badhoo mil bhaatan bhaatan mangal gaae |

The women of Braja country began to sing songs of joy of various types

ਭੂਮਿ ਹਲੀ ਨਭ ਯੋ ਇਹ ਕਉਤਕ ਬਾਰਨ ਭੇਦ ਯੌ ਭਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥

bhoom halee nabh yo ih kautak baaran bhed yau bhaakh sunaae |

The earth trembled and there was a (heavy) earthquake in the sky. This difference was explained by the girls ('Baran').

ਚਕ੍ਰਤ ਬਾਤ ਭਏ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਚ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥੧੦੫॥

chakrat baat bhe sun kai apane man mai tin saach na laae |105|

The earth shook and the children began to relate various stories about the killing of Putana, hearing which all marveled in their minds and hesitated to accept this true episode.105.
