ਜਾਪਣ ਤੇਗੀ ਆਰੇ ਮਿਆਨੋ ਧੂਹੀਆਂ ॥
jaapan tegee aare miaano dhooheean |It appears that the sword pulled from the scabbards are like saws.
ਜੋਧੇ ਵਡੇ ਮੁਨਾਰੇ ਜਾਪਨ ਖੇਤ ਵਿਚ ॥
jodhe vadde munaare jaapan khet vich |The warriors look like high minarets in the battlefield.
ਦੇਵੀ ਆਪ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਪਬ ਜਵੇਹਣੇ ॥
devee aap savaare pab javehane |The goddess herself killed these mountain-like demons.
ਕਦੇ ਨ ਆਖਨ ਹਾਰੇ ਧਾਵਨ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ॥
kade na aakhan haare dhaavan saahamane |They never uttered the word ‘defeat’ and ran in front of the goddess.
ਦੁਰਗਾ ਸਭ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ਰਾਕਸਿ ਖੜਗ ਲੈ ॥੧੫॥
duragaa sabh sanghaare raakas kharrag lai |15|Durga, holding her sword, killed all the demons.15.

ਉਮਲ ਲਥੇ ਜੋਧੇ ਮਾਰੂ ਬਜਿਆ ॥
aumal lathe jodhe maaroo bajiaa |The fatal martial music sounded and the warriors came in the battlefield with enthusiasm.
ਬਦਲ ਜਿਉ ਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰ ਰਣ ਵਿਚਿ ਗਜਿਆ ॥
badal jiau mahikhaasur ran vich gajiaa |Mahishasura thundered in the field like the cloud
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੇਹਾ ਜੋਧਾ ਮੈਥਉ ਭਜਿਆ ॥
eindr jehaa jodhaa maithau bhajiaa |“The warrior like Indra fled from me
ਕਉਣ ਵਿਚਾਰੀ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਜਿਨ ਰਣੁ ਸਜਿਆ ॥੧੬॥
kaun vichaaree duragaa jin ran sajiaa |16|“Who is this wretched Durga, who hath come to srart war with me?”16.
ਵਜੇ ਢੋਲ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ॥
vaje dtol nagaare dalaan mukaabalaa |The drums and trumpets have sounded and the armies have attacked each other.
ਤੀਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਰੈਬਾਰੇ ਆਮ੍ਹੋ ਸਾਮ੍ਹਣੇ ॥
teer firai raibaare aamho saamhane |The arrows move opposite to each other guidingly.
ਅਗਣਤ ਬੀਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ਲਗਦੀ ਕੈਬਰੀ ॥
aganat beer sanghaare lagadee kaibaree |With the infliction of arrows countless warriors have been killed.
ਡਿਗੇ ਜਾਣਿ ਮੁਨਾਰੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਬਿਜੁ ਦੇ ॥
ddige jaan munaare maare bij de |Falling like the minarets smote by lightning.
ਖੁਲੀ ਵਾਲੀਂ ਦੈਤ ਅਹਾੜੇ ਸਭੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ॥
khulee vaaleen dait ahaarre sabhe soorame |All the demon-fighters with untied hair shouted in agony.
ਸੁਤੇ ਜਾਣਿ ਜਟਾਲੇ ਭੰਗਾਂ ਖਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੧੭॥
sute jaan jattaale bhangaan khaae kai |17|It seems that the hermits with matted locks are sleeping after eating the intoxicating hemps.17.

ਦੁਹਾਂ ਕੰਧਾਰਾਂ ਮੁਹਿ ਜੁੜੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਧਉਸਾ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
duhaan kandhaaraan muhi jurre naal dhausaa bhaaree |Both the armies are facing each other alongwith the resounding big trumpet.
ਕੜਕ ਉਠਿਆ ਫਉਜ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
karrak utthiaa fauj te vaddaa ahankaaree |The highly egoist warrior of the army thundered.
ਲੈ ਕੈ ਚਲਿਆ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਵਡੇ ਹਜਾਰੀ ॥
lai kai chaliaa soorame naal vadde hajaaree |He is moving towards the war-arena with thousands of mighty warriors.
ਮਿਆਨੋ ਖੰਡਾ ਧੂਹਿਆ ਮਹਖਾਸੁਰ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
miaano khanddaa dhoohiaa mahakhaasur bhaaree |Mahishasura pulled out his huge double-edged sword from his scabbard.
ਉਮਲ ਲਥੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਮਾਰ ਮਚੀ ਕਰਾਰੀ ॥
aumal lathe soorame maar machee karaaree |The fighters entered the field enthusiastically and there occurred formidable fighting.
ਜਾਪੇ ਚਲੇ ਰਤ ਦੇ ਸਲਲੇ ਜਟਧਾਰੀ ॥੧੮॥
jaape chale rat de salale jattadhaaree |18|It appears that the blood flows like the water (of Ganges) from the tangled hair of Shiva.18.

ਸਟ ਪਈ ਜਮਧਾਣੀ ਦਲਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ॥
satt pee jamadhaanee dalaan mukaabalaa |When the trumpet, enveloped by the hide of the male buffalo, the vehicle of Yama, sounded, the armies attacked each other.
ਧੂਹਿ ਲਈ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣੀ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਮਿਆਨ ਤੇ ॥
dhoohi lee kripaanee duragaa miaan te |Durga pulled her sword from the scabbard.
ਚੰਡੀ ਰਾਕਸਿ ਖਾਣੀ ਵਾਹੀ ਦੈਤ ਨੂੰ ॥
chanddee raakas khaanee vaahee dait noo |She struck the demon with that Chandi, the devourer of demons (that is the sword).
ਕੋਪਰ ਚੂਰ ਚਵਾਣੀ ਲਥੀ ਕਰਗ ਲੈ ॥
kopar choor chavaanee lathee karag lai |It broke the skull and face into pieces and pierced through the skeleton.
ਪਾਖਰ ਤੁਰਾ ਪਲਾਣੀ ਰੜਕੀ ਧਰਤ ਜਾਇ ॥
paakhar turaa palaanee rarrakee dharat jaae |And it further pierced through the saddle and caparison of the horse, and struck on the earth supported by the Bull (Dhaul).
ਲੈਦੀ ਅਘਾ ਸਿਧਾਣੀ ਸਿੰਗਾਂ ਧਉਲ ਦਿਆਂ ॥
laidee aghaa sidhaanee singaan dhaul diaan |It moved further and struck the horns of the Bull.
ਕੂਰਮ ਸਿਰ ਲਹਿਲਾਣੀ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
kooram sir lahilaanee dusaman maar kai |Then it struck on the Tortoise supporting the Bull and thus killing the enemy.
ਵਢੇ ਗਨ ਤਿਖਾਣੀ ਮੂਏ ਖੇਤ ਵਿਚ ॥
vadte gan tikhaanee mooe khet vich |The demons are lying dead in the battlefield like the pieces of wood sawed by the carpenter.
ਰਣ ਵਿਚ ਘਤੀ ਘਾਣੀ ਲੋਹੂ ਮਿਝ ਦੀ ॥
ran vich ghatee ghaanee lohoo mijh dee |The press of blood and marrow has been set in motion in the battlefield.
ਚਾਰੇ ਜੁਗ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਚਲਗ ਤੇਗ ਦੀ ॥
chaare jug kahaanee chalag teg dee |The story of the sword will be related in all the four ages.
ਬਿਧਣ ਖੇਤ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ਮਹਖੇ ਦੈਤ ਨੂੰ ॥੧੯॥
bidhan khet vihaanee mahakhe dait noo |19|On the demon Mahisha the period of agony occurred in the battlefield.19.
ਇਤੀ ਮਹਖਾਸੁਰ ਦੈਤ ਮਾਰੇ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਆਇਆ ॥
eitee mahakhaasur dait maare duragaa aaeaa |In this way the demon Mahishasura was killed on the arrival of Durga.
ਚਉਦਹ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਰਾਣੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਚਾਇਆ ॥
chaudah lokaan raanee singh nachaaeaa |The queen caused the lion to dance in the fourteen worlds.
ਮਾਰੇ ਬੀਰ ਜਟਾਣੀ ਦਲ ਵਿਚ ਅਗਲੇ ॥
maare beer jattaanee dal vich agale |She killed a great number of brave demons with matted locks in the battlefield.
ਮੰਗਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਲੀ ਹੰਘਾਰ ਕੈ ॥
mangan naahee paanee dalee hanghaar kai |Challenging the armies, these warriors do not even ask for water.
ਜਣ ਕਰੀ ਸਮਾਇ ਪਠਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਕੈ ਰਾਗ ਨੂੰ ॥
jan karee samaae patthaanee sun kai raag noo |It seems that listening to the music, the Pathans have realized the state of ecstasy.
ਰਤੂ ਦੇ ਹੜਵਾਣੀ ਚਲੇ ਬੀਰ ਖੇਤ ॥
ratoo de harravaanee chale beer khet |The flood of the blood of the fighters is flowing.
ਪੀਤਾ ਫੁਲੁ ਇਆਣੀ ਘੁਮਨ ਸੂਰਮੇ ॥੨੦॥
peetaa ful eaanee ghuman soorame |20|The brave warriors are roaming as if they have ignorantly consumed the intoxicating poppy.20.
ਹੋਈ ਅਲੋਪ ਭਵਾਨੀ ਦੇਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ॥
hoee alop bhavaanee devaan noo raaj de |Bhavani (Durga) disappeard after bestowing kingdom on the gods.
ਈਸਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਦਾਨੀ ਹੋਈ ਜਿਤ ਦਿਨ ॥
eesar dee baradaanee hoee jit din |The day for which Shiva granted the boon.
ਸੁੰਭ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਗੁਮਾਨੀ ਜਨਮੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ॥
sunbh nisunbh gumaanee janame soorame |The proud warriors Sumbh and Nisumbh were born.
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਤਕੀ ਜਿਤਨੀ ॥੨੧॥
eindr dee raajadhaanee takee jitanee |21|They planned to conquer the capital of Indra.21.
ਇੰਦ੍ਰਪੁਰੀ ਤੇ ਧਾਵਣਾ ਵਡ ਜੋਧੀ ਮਤਾ ਪਕਾਇਆ ॥
eindrapuree te dhaavanaa vadd jodhee mataa pakaaeaa |The great fighters decided to rush towards the kingdom of Indra.
ਸੰਜ ਪਟੇਲਾ ਪਾਖਰਾ ਭੇੜ ਸੰਦਾ ਸਾਜੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥
sanj pattelaa paakharaa bherr sandaa saaj banaaeaa |They began to prepare the war-material consisting of armour with belts and saddle-gear.
ਜੰਮੇ ਕਟਕ ਅਛੂਹਣੀ ਅਸਮਾਨੁ ਗਰਦੀ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
jame kattak achhoohanee asamaan garadee chhaaeaa |An army of lakhs of warriors gathered and the dust rose to sky.
ਰੋਹ ਸੁੰਭ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਸਿਧਾਇਆ ॥੨੨॥
roh sunbh nisunbh sidhaaeaa |22|Sumbh and Nisumbh, full of rage, have marched forward.22.
