ਅਥ ਮਧੁ ਕੈਟਬ ਬਧਨ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
ath madh kaittab badhan kathanan |Now begins the description of the killing of Madhu and Kaitabh :
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੀ ਸਹਾਇ ॥
sree bhgautee jee sahaae |Let Sri Bhagauti Ji (The Primal Lord) be helpful.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਮੋ ਕੋਟਿਕ ਬਿਸਨ ਮਹੇਸ ॥
kaal purakh kee dehi mo kottik bisan mahes |In the body of the Immanent Lord, million of Vishnus and Shivas abide.
ਕੋਟਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਰਿ ਜਲੇਸ ॥੧॥
kott indr brahamaa kite rav sas kror jales |1|Million of Indras, Brahmas, Suryas, Chandras and Varunas are present thre in His divine body.1.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥
chauapee |CHAUPAI
ਸ੍ਰਮਿਤ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਤਹ ਰਹਤ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
sramit bisan tah rahat samaaee |(Taking an avatar) the tired Vishnu remains absorbed there
ਸਿੰਧੁ ਬਿੰਧੁ ਜਹ ਗਨਿਯੋ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
sindh bindh jah ganiyo na jaaee |Fatigued by his work, Vishnu remains merged in Him and within that Immanent Lord, there are unaccountable oceans and worlds.
ਸੇਸਨਾਗਿ ਸੇ ਕੋਟਿਕ ਤਹਾ ॥
sesanaag se kottik tahaa |There are crores like Sheshnag
ਸੋਵਤ ਸੈਨ ਸਰਪ ਕੀ ਜਹਾ ॥੨॥
sovat sain sarap kee jahaa |2|The bed of Great serpent, on which that Immanent Lord sleeps, millions of Sheshanagas appear graceful near it.2.
ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰ ਸੀਸ ਤਬ ਧਰ ਤਨ ਜੰਗਾ ॥
sahansr sees tab dhar tan jangaa |Who has thousands of heads and thousands of legs on his body,
ਸਹੰਸ੍ਰ ਪਾਵ ਕਰ ਸਹੰਸ ਅਭੰਗਾ ॥
sahansr paav kar sahans abhangaa |He hath thousands of heads, trunks and legs He hath thousands of hands and feet, He, the Invincible Lord
ਸਹੰਸਰਾਛ ਸੋਭਤ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥
sahansaraachh sobhat hai taa ke |Thousands of eyes are adorned on his (body).
ਲਛਮੀ ਪਾਵ ਪਲੋਸਤ ਵਾ ਕੇ ॥੩॥
lachhamee paav palosat vaa ke |3|He hath thousands of eyes and al types of excellences kiss his feet.3.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਮਧੁ ਕੀਟਭ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਨਮਿਤ ਜਾ ਦਿਨ ਜਗਤ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥
madh keettabh ke badh namit jaa din jagat muraar |The day on which Vishnu manifested himself for the killing of Madhu and Kaitabh,
ਸੁ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਚੌਦਸਵੋ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੪॥
su kab sayaam taa ko kahai chauadasavo avataar |4|The poet Shyam knows him as fourteenth incarnation.4.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਮੈਲ ਤੇ ਅਸੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸਤ ॥
sravan mail te asur prakaasat |From (Sekhsai's) earwax the giants (Madhu and Kaitbh) appeared,
ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰ ਜਨੁ ਦੁਤੀਯ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਸਤ ॥
chand soor jan duteey prabhaasat |From the dross of the ear, the demons were born and were considered glorious like Chandra and Surya.
ਮਾਯਾ ਤਜਤ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਕਹੁ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥
maayaa tajat bisan kahu tab hee |Only then Maya leaves Vishnu
ਕਰਤ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਅਸੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥੫॥
karat upaadh asur mil jab hee |5|With the orders of the Immanent Lord, Vishnu abandoned maya and manifested himself at that time, when these demons indulged in riots.5.
ਤਿਨ ਸੋ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਘਮਸਾਨਾ ॥
tin so karat bisan ghamasaanaa |Vishnu fights with them (both giants).
ਬਰਖ ਹਜਾਰ ਪੰਚ ਪਰਮਾਨਾ ॥
barakh hajaar panch paramaanaa |Vishnu waged ferocious war with them for five thousand years .
ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਤਬ ਹੋਤ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
kaal purakh tab hot sahaaee |Then 'Kal-purukh' is the assistant
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨਿ ਹਨਤ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਉਪਜਾਈ ॥੬॥
duhoonan hanat krodh upajaaee |6|The Immanent Lord then helped Vishnu and in great fury, he destroyed both the demons.6.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਧਾਰਤ ਹੈ ਐਸੋ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਚੌਦਸਵੋ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥
dhaarat hai aaiso bisan chauadasavo avataar |To bring happiness to all the saints and to adorn the two giants
ਸੰਤ ਸੰਬੂਹਨਿ ਸੁਖ ਨਮਿਤ ਦਾਨਵ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਸੰਘਾਰ ॥੭॥
sant sanboohan sukh namit daanav duhoon sanghaar |7|In this way, Vishnu manifested himself as the fourteenth incarnation and in order to give comfort to the saints, he destroyed both these demons.7.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਮਧੁ ਕੈਟਭ ਬਧਹ ਚਤਰਦਸਵੋ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਸਮਾਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੧੪॥
eit sree bachitr naattak granthe madh kaittabh badhah chataradasavo avataar bisan samaatam sat subham sat |14|End of the description of the fourteenth incarnation.14.
ਅਥ ਅਰਿਹੰਤ ਦੇਵ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
ath arihant dev avataar kathanan |Now begins the description of the incarnation named Arhant Dev :
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੀ ਸਹਾਇ ॥
sree bhgautee jee sahaae |Let Sri Bhaguti Ji (The Primal Lord) be helpful.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਜਬ ਜਬ ਦਾਨਵ ਕਰਤ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
jab jab daanav karat paasaaraa |When the giants roam,
ਤਬ ਤਬ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਕਰਤ ਸੰਘਾਰਾ ॥
tab tab bisan karat sanghaaraa |Whenever the demons extend their rule, then Vishnu comes to destroy them.
ਸਕਲ ਅਸੁਰ ਇਕਠੇ ਤਹਾ ਭਏ ॥
sakal asur ikatthe tahaa bhe |Once all the giants gathered at (some) place
ਸੁਰ ਅਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਚਲਿ ਗਏ ॥੧॥
sur ar gur mandar chal ge |1|Once all the demons gathered together ( seeing them ) the gods and their preceptors went to their abodes.1.
ਸਬਹੂੰ ਮਿਲਿ ਅਸ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
sabahoon mil as kariyo bichaaraa |Everyone thought so together
ਦਈਤਨ ਕਰਤ ਘਾਤ ਅਸੁਰਾਰਾ ॥
deetan karat ghaat asuraaraa |All the demons gathered together and thought out (over this issue), that Vishnu always destroys the demons
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਐਸ ਕਰੌ ਕਿਛੁ ਘਾਤਾ ॥
taa te aais karau kichh ghaataa |So let such a trick go
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਬਨੇ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
jaa te bane hamaaree baataa |2|And now they should devise some plan, to settle the issue.2.
ਦਈਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਇਮ ਬਚਨ ਬਖਾਨਾ ॥
deet guroo im bachan bakhaanaa |Thus spoke the master of the demons,
ਤੁਮ ਦਾਨਵੋ ਨ ਭੇਦ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
tum daanavo na bhed pachhaanaa |The preceptor of the demons (Shukracharya) said, “O demons, you have not understood this mystery till now
ਵੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਗ ਕਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਾ ॥
ve mil jag karat bahu bhaataa |They (the gods) together perform many kinds of yagnas,
ਕੁਸਲ ਹੋਤ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੩॥
kusal hot taa te din raataa |3|“The gods gather together and perform Yajnas (sacrifices), therefore thay always remain happy.3.
ਤੁਮ ਹੂੰ ਕਰੋ ਜਗ ਆਰੰਭਨ ॥
tum hoon karo jag aaranbhan |You also start the Yagya,
ਬਿਜੈ ਹੋਇ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਰਣ ॥
bijai hoe tumaree taa te ran |You should also perform sacrifices, and then you will be victorious in the battlefield.
ਜਗ ਅਰੰਭ੍ਯ ਦਾਨਵਨ ਕਰਾ ॥
jag aranbhay daanavan karaa |(Accepting this) the demons started the yagya.
