ਅਚਰਜ ਮਾਨ ਲੀਨੋ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਇਹ ਕਾਢ ਕੈ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਡਾਰੋ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਸੰਘਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
acharaj maan leeno man mai bichaar ih kaadt kai kripaan ddaaro in hee sanghaar kai |Being greatly astonished Kansa ruminated in his mind whether they be killed by taking out the sword
ਜਾਹਿੰਗੇ ਛਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਜਾਨੀ ਕੰਸ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਇਹੈ ਬਾਤ ਭਲੀ ਡਾਰੋ ਜਰ ਹੀ ਉਖਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥੩੯॥
jaahinge chhapaae kai su jaanee kans man maeh ihai baat bhalee ddaaro jar hee ukhaar kai |39|Till what time, this fact will be kept concealed? And he will be able to save himself? Therefore, he will be within his right to destroy instantly this very root of fear.39.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕੰਸ ਦੋਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਨਮਿਤ ਲੀਨੋ ਖੜਗ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ॥
kans dohoon ke badh namit leeno kharrag nikaar |Kansa took out his sword (from its sheath) to kill them both.
ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਡਰੇ ਦੋਊ ਨਰ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੪੦॥
baasudev ar devakee ddare doaoo nar naar |40|Kansa took out his sword in order to kill both of them and seeing this both husband and wife were frightened.40.
ਬਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਬਾਚ ਕੰਸ ਸੋ ॥
baasudev baach kans so |Speech of Vasudev addressed to Kansa:
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਬਾਸਦੇਵ ਡਰੁ ਮਾਨ ਕੈ ਤਾ ਸੋ ਕਹੀ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥
baasadev ddar maan kai taa so kahee sunaae |Basudeva, being afraid, told him (this) and said,
ਜੋ ਯਾ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਹੈ ਮਾਰਹੁ ਤਾਕਹੁ ਰਾਇ ॥੪੧॥
jo yaa hee te janam hai maarahu taakahu raae |41|Absorbed in fear, Vasudev said to Kansa, “Do not kill Devaki, but O king! whosoever will be born to her, you may kill him.”41.
ਕੰਸ ਬਾਚ ਮਨ ਮੈ ॥

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਹੇਤ ਕੇ ਭਾਵ ਸੌ ਮਤਿ ਇਹ ਜਾਇ ਛਪਾਇ ॥
putr het ke bhaav sau mat ih jaae chhapaae |May it (the child) be hidden out of affection for the son,
ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨੈ ਦੇਉ ਇਨ ਇਹੈ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ਰਾਇ ॥੪੨॥
bandeekhaanai deo in ihai bichaaree raae |42|May it not happen that under the impact of her affection for her son, she may hide offspring from me, therefore I feel that they may be imprisoned.42.
ਅਥ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਬਸੁਦੇਵ ਕੈਦ ਕੀਬੋ ॥

ਡਾਰਿ ਜੰਜੀਰ ਲਏ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਨ ਪੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਮਹਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
ddaar janjeer le tin paaein pai fir kai mathuraa meh aayo |(Kans) put fetters on their feet and brought Mathra.
ਸੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਲੋਗ ਕਥਾ ਅਤਿ ਨਾਮ ਬੁਰੋ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਨਿਕਰਾਯੋ ॥
so sun kai sabh log kathaa at naam buro jag mai nikaraayo |Putting chains in their feet Kansa brought them back to Mathura and when the people came to know about it, they greatly talked ill of Kansa
ਆਨਿ ਰਖੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਪਨ ਮੈ ਰਖਵਾਰੀ ਕੋ ਸੇਵਕ ਲੋਗ ਬੈਠਾਯੋ ॥
aan rakhai grih aapan mai rakhavaaree ko sevak log baitthaayo |He brought (both of them) and kept them (imprisoned) in his house and placed (his) servants to guard them.
ਆਨਿ ਬਡੇਨ ਕੀ ਛਾਡਿ ਦਈ ਕੁਲ ਭੀਤਰ ਆਪਨੋ ਰਾਹ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥੪੩॥
aan badden kee chhaadd dee kul bheetar aapano raah chalaayo |43|Kansa dept them imprisoned in his own house and forsaking the traditions of his elders, he engaged servants to keep a watch over them and bound them to submit to his orders, remaining fully under his control.43.
ਕਬਿਯੋ ਬਾਚ ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕਿਤਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਬੀਤੇ ਜਬੈ ਕੰਸ ਰਾਜ ਉਤਪਾਤ ॥
kitak divas beete jabai kans raaj utapaat |A few days passed when Kans was produced in the state
ਤਬੈ ਕਥਾ ਅਉਰੈ ਚਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਰੇਖ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ॥੪੪॥
tabai kathaa aaurai chalee karam rekh kee baat |44|Many days passed during the tyrannical rule of Kansa and in this way, according to the line of fate, the story took a new turn.44.
