ਜਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਤੁਮ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
jaa te mohi sadaa tum paavahu |By doing which you get me forever.
ਭੇਦ ਦੂਸਰੋ ਪੁਰਖ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
bhed doosaro purakh na paavai |No other person could find the secret (of this).
ਲਹੈ ਨ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਨ ਭੂਸਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੨੧॥
lahai na svaan na bhoosan aavai |21|Do not see the dog and do not come to bark. 21.
ਰਾਨੀ ਸੁਨੀ ਬਾਤ ਐਸੀ ਜਬ ॥
raanee sunee baat aaisee jab |When the queen heard such a thing,
ਬਚਨ ਕਹਾ ਹਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਿਯ ਸੋ ਤਬ ॥
bachan kahaa has kar piy so tab |Then laughingly shared the words with Pretam like this.
ਰੋਮ ਨਾਸ ਤੁਮ ਬਦਨ ਲਗਾਵਹੁ ॥
rom naas tum badan lagaavahu |(He said) You should apply romance on your face ('body').
ਸਕਲ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੋ ਭੇਸ ਬਨਾਵਹੁ ॥੨੨॥
sakal naar ko bhes banaavahu |22|And make all the disguise of a woman. 22.
ਰੋਮਾਤਕ ਰਾਨਿਯਹਿ ਮੰਗਾਯੋ ॥
romaatak raaniyeh mangaayo |Rani called for romance
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਬਦਨ ਸਾਥ ਲੈ ਲਾਯੋ ॥
taa ke badan saath lai laayo |And took it and put it all over his face.
ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕੇਸ ਦੂਰਿ ਜਬ ਭਏ ॥
sabh hee kes door jab bhe |When all the hair (of the mouth) fell off,
ਤਾ ਕਹ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਏ ॥੨੩॥
taa kah basatr naar ke de |23|So he was given women's clothes. 23.
ਬੀਨਾ ਦਈ ਕੰਧ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਪਰ ॥
beenaa dee kandh taa kai par |Veena was placed on his shoulder
ਸੁਨਨ ਨਮਿਤਿ ਰਾਖਿਯੋ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਘਰ ॥
sunan namit raakhiyo taa kau ghar |And kept him at home to listen (to music).
ਜਬ ਰਾਜਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਵੈ ॥
jab raajaa taa ke grih aavai |When the king comes to her (queen's) house,
ਤਬ ਤੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੌ ਬੈਠਿ ਬਜਾਵੈ ॥੨੪॥
tab tantree sau baitth bajaavai |24|Then she would sit and play the string. 24.
ਰਾਜ ਬੀਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
raaj been sun triy tih maanai |When the king heard Veena (from her), he believed her to be a woman
ਪੁਰਖ ਵਾਹਿ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੈ ॥
purakh vaeh isatree pahichaanai |And consider that man as a woman.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਹੇਰਿ ਰੂਪ ਲਲਚਾਨਾ ॥
taa ko her roop lalachaanaa |Seeing his form (the king) was tempted
ਘਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਤਜਿ ਭਯੋ ਦਿਵਾਨਾ ॥੨੫॥
ghar baahar taj bhayo divaanaa |25|And leaving the house (he) became crazy. 25.
ਇਕ ਦੂਤੀ ਤਬ ਰਾਇ ਬੁਲਾਇਸਿ ॥
eik dootee tab raae bulaaeis |Then the king called a messenger
ਅਧਿਕ ਦਰਬ ਦੈ ਤਹਾ ਪਠਾਇਸਿ ॥
adhik darab dai tahaa patthaaeis |And sent to him with a lot of money.
ਜਬ ਰਾਨੀ ਐਸੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
jab raanee aaise sun paaee |When the queen heard such a thing,
ਬਚਨ ਕਹਾ ਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੁਸਕਾਈ ॥੨੬॥
bachan kahaa taa so musakaaee |26|So she laughed and said to him. 26.
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੋ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਯਹ ਬਰੈ ॥
jin to ko raajaa yah barai |May this king bless you
ਹਮ ਸੋ ਨੇਹੁ ਸਕਲ ਤਜਿ ਡਰੈ ॥
ham so nehu sakal taj ddarai |And leave all affection with me.
ਮੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਤੁਹਿ ਸ੍ਵੈਹੋ ॥
mai apane sang lai tuhi svaiho |will take you with me
ਚਿਤ ਕੇ ਸਕਲ ਸੋਕ ਕਹ ਖ੍ਵੈਹੋ ॥੨੭॥
chit ke sakal sok kah khvaiho |27|And will remove all the sorrows of Chit. 27.
ਜੋ ਤਾ ਪਹਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸਖੀ ਪਠਾਵੈ ॥
jo taa peh nrip sakhee patthaavai |There (when) the king would send Sakhi
ਸੋ ਚਲਿ ਤੀਰ ਤਵਨ ਕੈ ਆਵੈ ॥
so chal teer tavan kai aavai |And she would walk to him.
ਰਾਨੀ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਸੋਤ ਨਿਹਾਰੈ ॥
raanee ke sang sot nihaarai |(So) seeing him sleeping with the queen
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੋ ਜਾਇ ਉਚਾਰੈ ॥੨੮॥
eih bidh nrip so jaae uchaarai |28|And in the same way she told the king. 28.
ਰਾਨੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਭੇਦ ਲਖ ਗਈ ॥
raanee nripat bhed lakh gee |(The king thought that) the queen has understood my secret,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਵਹਿ ਛੋਰਤ ਨਹਿ ਭਈ ॥
taa te veh chhorat neh bhee |So she is not leaving (him).
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੰਗ ਤਾਹਿ ਲੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
apane sang taeh lai soee |(That's why) she sleeps with him
ਹਮਰੋ ਦਾਵ ਨ ਲਾਗਤ ਕੋਈ ॥੨੯॥
hamaro daav na laagat koee |29|And I don't have any claim. 29.
ਜਬ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jab ih bhaat nripat sun paavai |When the king heard like this
ਤਹ ਤਿਹ ਆਪੁ ਬਿਲੋਕਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
tah tih aap bilokan aavai |So he comes to see himself there.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸੋ ਸੋਤ ਜਾਰ ਕੋ ਹੇਰੈ ॥
triy so sot jaar ko herai |(When) he saw (his) friend sleeping with the queen,
ਨਿਹਫਲ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਨੈ ਨਾਹਿ ਛੇਰੈ ॥੩੦॥
nihafal jaae tinai naeh chherai |30|So he would not have teased them (and his venture) would have been unsuccessful. 30.
ਮਾਥੋ ਧੁਨ੍ਰਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੌ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥
maatho dhunrayo nripat sau kahiyo |The king shook his forehead (head) and said thus (in mind).
ਹਮਰੋ ਭੇਦ ਰਾਨਿਯਹਿ ਲਹਿਯੋ ॥
hamaro bhed raaniyeh lahiyo |That Rani has found out my secret.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਯਾਹਿ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
taa te yaeh sang lai soee |So I slept with it
ਮੇਰੀ ਘਾਤ ਨ ਲਾਗਤ ਕੋਈ ॥੩੧॥
meree ghaat na laagat koee |31|And I don't have any interest. 31.
ਉਨ ਰਾਨੀ ਐਸੋ ਤਬ ਕੀਯੋ ॥
aun raanee aaiso tab keeyo |That queen then did so
ਭੇਦ ਭਾਖਿ ਸਖਯਿਨ ਸਭ ਦੀਯੋ ॥
bhed bhaakh sakhayin sabh deeyo |And explained the secret to all the maids
ਜੋ ਇਹ ਸੋਤ ਅਨਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jo ih sot anat nrip paavai |That if the king will see it sleeping elsewhere
ਪਕਰਿ ਭੋਗਬੇ ਕਾਜ ਮੰਗਾਵੈ ॥੩੨॥
pakar bhogabe kaaj mangaavai |32|Then he will ask for indulgence. 32.
ਮੈ ਸੋਵਤ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
mai sovat taa te ih sangaa |So I with it
