ਰਾਨੀ ਮਰੀ ਨ ਫੇਰਿ ਚਿਤਾਰੌ ॥੧੦॥
raanee maree na fer chitaarau |10|And I will not remember the dead queen again. 10.
ਔਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਬਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
aauar triyan ke saath bihaaraa |The king started having fun with other queens
ਵਾ ਰਾਨੀ ਕਹ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਾ ॥
vaa raanee kah nripat bisaaraa |And that queen was forgotten by the king.
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਨਰਿੰਦ੍ਰਹਿ ਛਰਾ ॥
eih chhal triyan narindreh chharaa |With this trick, the women tricked the king.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਤਿਭੁਤ ਇਹ ਕਰਾ ॥੧੧॥

ਇਛਾਵਤੀ ਨਗਰ ਇਕ ਸੁਨਾ ॥
eichhaavatee nagar ik sunaa |I had heard of a town called Ichhavati.
ਇਛ ਸੈਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਹੁ ਗੁਨਾ ॥
eichh sain raajaa bahu gunaa |(His) king Ich Sen was very virtuous.
ਇਸਟ ਮਤੀ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
eisatt matee taa ke ghar naaree |Ishta Mati was the queen of his house.
ਇਸਟ ਦੇਵਕਾ ਰਹਤ ਦੁਲਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
eisatt devakaa rahat dulaaree |1|Ishta Devaka was (his) daughter. 1.
ਅਜੈ ਸੈਨ ਖਤਰੇਟਾ ਤਹਾ ॥
ajai sain khatarettaa tahaa |There was a man named Ajay Sen.
ਆਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਧਾਮ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਜਹਾ ॥
aavat bhayo dhaam triy jahaa |(He) came to where the lady's (queen's) house was.
ਰਾਣੀ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
raanee taa ko roop nihaaraa |Rani saw his form
ਗਿਰੀ ਧਰਨਿ ਜਨੁ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਕਟਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
giree dharan jan lagiyo kattaaraa |2|Then she fell on the ground, as if she was stuck. 2.
ਉੜਦਾ ਬੇਗ ਨਿਪੁੰਸਕ ਬਨੇ ॥
aurradaa beg nipunsak bane |Rani's flying bag
ਪਠੈ ਦਏ ਰਾਨੀ ਤਹ ਘਨੇ ॥
patthai de raanee tah ghane |and sent many other eunuchs to him.
ਗਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਤਹਾ ॥
geh kar taeh lai ge tahaa |(Those eunuchs) caught him and took him there
ਤਰਨੀ ਪੰਥ ਬਿਲੋਕਤ ਜਹਾ ॥੩॥
taranee panth bilokat jahaa |3|Where the queen was watching (her way). 3.
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਰਾਨੀ ਕਰਿ ॥
kaam bhog taa sau raanee kar |Rani had sexual intercourse with him
ਪੌਢੇ ਦੋਊ ਜਾਇ ਪਲਘਾ ਪਰ ॥
pauadte doaoo jaae palaghaa par |And both slept on the bed.
ਤਬ ਲਗਿ ਆਇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਤਹ ਗਏ ॥
tab lag aae nripat tah ge |By then the king came there.
ਸੋਵਤ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਬਿਲੋਕਤ ਭਏ ॥੪॥
sovat duhoon bilokat bhe |4|Saw both of them (together) sleeping. 4.
ਭਰਭਰਾਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਜਗੀ ਦੁਖਾਤੁਰ ॥
bharabharaae triy jagee dukhaatur |The woman woke up feeling sad
ਡਾਰਿ ਦਯੋ ਦੁਪਟਾ ਪਤਿ ਮੁਖ ਪਰ ॥
ddaar dayo dupattaa pat mukh par |And threw the dupatta on her husband's face.
ਜਬ ਲੌ ਕਰਤ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਭਯੋ ॥
jab lau karat door nrip bhayo |Until the king removed (the scarf from the mouth),
ਤਬ ਲੌ ਜਾਰਿ ਭਾਜਿ ਕਰਿ ਗਯੋ ॥੫॥
tab lau jaar bhaaj kar gayo |5|Till then the guy ran away. 5.
ਦੁਪਟਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜਬੈ ॥
dupattaa door karaa nrip jabai |When the king removed the dupatta,
ਪਕਰ ਲਿਯੋ ਰਾਨੀ ਕਹ ਤਬੈ ॥
pakar liyo raanee kah tabai |So he grabbed the queen.
ਕਹਾ ਗਯੋ ਵਹੁ ਜੁ ਮੈ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
kahaa gayo vahu ju mai nihaaraa |(And began to ask) Where has he gone whom I saw?
ਬਿਨੁ ਨ ਕਹੈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਮਿਟੈ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੬॥
bin na kahai bhram mittai hamaaraa |6|Without telling (the truth), my illusion will not disappear. 6.
ਪ੍ਰਥਮੈ ਜਾਨ ਮਾਫ ਮੁਰ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
prathamai jaan maaf mur keejai |first spare my life,
ਬਹੁਰੌ ਬਾਤ ਸਾਚ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
bahurau baat saach sun leejai |Then hear the truth (from me).
ਬਚਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੌ ਹਾਥਾ ॥
bachan dehu mere jau haathaa |(First) give me word by hand,
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਨਾਥਾ ॥੭॥
bahur lehu binatee sun naathaa |7|Then O Nath! Hear my request.
ਭੈਂਗੇ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਤੋਰਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰੇ ॥
bhainge netr tor bidh kare |Vidhata has made your eyes wide open
ਇਕ ਤੈ ਜਾਤ ਦੋਇ ਲਖ ਪਰੇ ॥
eik tai jaat doe lakh pare |(by which you) see two instead of one.
ਤੁਮ ਕਹ ਕਛੂ ਝਾਵਰੋ ਆਯੋ ॥
tum kah kachhoo jhaavaro aayo |You have a bit of a hangover.
ਮੁਹਿ ਕੋ ਦਿਖਿ ਲਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੮॥
muhi ko dikh lakh kar dvai paayo |8|Seeing me (you) have (delusion) of seeing two.8.
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੁਨਿ ਬਚਨ ਚਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਰਹਾ ॥
nrip sun bachan chakrit hvai rahaa |The king was surprised to hear (the queen's) words.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸੌ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਚਨ ਨਹਿ ਕਹਾ ॥
triy sau bahur bachan neh kahaa |Then did not say anything to the woman.
ਮੁਖ ਮੂੰਦੇ ਘਰ ਕੌ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
mukh moonde ghar kau fir aayo |He returned home with his mouth shut
ਕਰਮ ਰੇਖ ਕਹ ਦੋਸ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥੯॥
karam rekh kah dos lagaayo |9|And began to accuse Karma-Rekha (due to which there was a defect in his eyes) 9.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਤੀਨ ਸੌ ਇਕ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੩੦੧॥੫੮੦੯॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਸੋਰਠ ਸੈਨ ਏਕ ਭੂਪਾਲਾ ॥
soratth sain ek bhoopaalaa |There was a king named Soratha Sen.
ਤੇਜਵਾਨ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਛਿਤਾਲਾ ॥
tejavaan balavaan chhitaalaa |(He was very) energetic, strong and cunning ('Chhitala').
ਸੋਰਠ ਦੇ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਘਰ ਰਾਨੀ ॥
soratth de taa kai ghar raanee |In his house there was a queen named (Dei) of Sorath.
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਕਲ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
sundar sakal bhavan meh jaanee |1|(She) was considered beautiful among fourteen people. 1.
ਛਤ੍ਰਿ ਸੈਨ ਤਹ ਸਾਹ ਭਨਿਜੈ ॥
chhatr sain tah saah bhanijai |There was a Shah named Chhatri Sen.
ਛਤ੍ਰ ਦੇਇ ਇਕ ਸੁਤਾ ਕਹਿਜੈ ॥
chhatr dee ik sutaa kahijai |(He had) a daughter called Chhatra Dei.
ਭੂਤ ਭਵਾਨ ਭਵਿਖ੍ਯ ਮਝਾਰੀ ॥
bhoot bhavaan bhavikhay majhaaree |There was no such (beautiful) maiden like her in ghost, future and present,
ਭਈ ਨ ਹੈ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੈ ਨ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
bhee na hai hvai hai na kumaaree |2|It is not and will not be. 2.
ਜਬ ਵਹੁ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਚੰਚਲਾ ਭਈ ॥
jab vahu tarun chanchalaa bhee |When that girl became young ('playful').
ਲਰਿਕਾਪਨ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਗਈ ॥
larikaapan kee sudh budh gee |And the pure wisdom of childhood is gone.
ਛਤਿਯਾ ਕੁਚਨ ਤਬੈ ਉਠਿ ਆਏ ॥
chhatiyaa kuchan tabai utth aae |Then bruises appeared on his chest.
ਮਦਨ ਭਰਤਿਯਾ ਭਰਤ ਭਰਾਏ ॥੩॥
madan bharatiyaa bharat bharaae |3|(Let it seem like this) the craftsman ('Bharatiya') filling the bags must have filled the bags. 3.
ਅਭਰਨ ਸੈਨ ਕੁਅਰ ਤਿਨ ਲਹਾ ॥
abharan sain kuar tin lahaa |He saw a Kumar named Abharan Sen.
ਤੇਜਵਾਨ ਕਛੁ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹਾ ॥
tejavaan kachh jaat na kahaa |(He was so) brilliant that it cannot be extolled.
ਲਾਗੀ ਲਗਨ ਛੂਟਿ ਨਹਿ ਗਈ ॥
laagee lagan chhoott neh gee |(His) persistence (with him) became unrelenting.
ਸੁਕ ਨਲਨੀ ਕੀ ਸੀ ਗਤਿ ਭਈ ॥੪॥
suk nalanee kee see gat bhee |4|His condition became like a parrot and a Nalani (a kind of pipe girl).4.
ਤਾ ਸੌ ਲਗੀ ਲਗਨ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਾ ॥
taa sau lagee lagan bahu bhaataa |It took a lot of hard work with him.
ਕਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਰਨ ਸੁਨਾਊ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
kih bidh baran sunaaoo baataa |How shall I describe the good of (those) things?
ਨਿਤਿਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਤਾ ਕਹ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਵੈ ॥
nitiprat taa kah bol patthaavai |(That woman) used to call him every day
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਰੁਚਿ ਮਾਨ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
kaam bhog ruch maan kamaavai |5|And Ruchi used to combine (with him) 5.
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਲਏ ਨਾਥ ਕਹ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
taa ke le naath kah maaraa |For that (she) killed her husband
ਤਨ ਮੈ ਰਾਡ ਭੇਸ ਕੋ ਧਾਰਾ ॥
tan mai raadd bhes ko dhaaraa |And disguised as a widow on her body.
ਜਬ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਅਪਨੇ ਜਾਰ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥
jab grih apane jaar bulaayo |When (he) invited his friend to his house
ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਕਹਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥੬॥
sabh prasang keh taeh sunaayo |6|So told him the whole thing. 6.
ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਜਾਰ ਬਚਨ ਅਸ ਡਰਾ ॥
sun kai jaar bachan as ddaraa |Yaar was so scared after hearing (his) words
ਧ੍ਰਿਗ ਧ੍ਰਿਗ ਬਚ ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਉਚਰਾ ॥
dhrig dhrig bach tih triyeh ucharaa |That he started calling that woman 'Dhrig Dhrig'.
ਜਿਨ ਅਪਨੋ ਪਤਿ ਆਪੁ ਸੰਘਰਿਯੋ ॥
jin apano pat aap sanghariyo |(He began to think in his mind that) who has killed her husband herself,
