ਭਈ ਬਾਣ ਬਰਖਾ ॥
bhee baan barakhaa |

ਗਏ ਜੀਤਿ ਕਰਖਾ ॥
ge jeet karakhaa |

There was rain of arrows and with this the goddess became victorious.

ਸਬੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
sabai dusatt maare |

ਮਈਯਾ ਸੰਤ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥੩੨॥੧੫੪॥
meeyaa sant ubaare |32|154|

All the tyrants were killed by the goddess and the Mother saved the saints.32.154.

ਨਿਸੁੰਭੰ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
nisunbhan sanghaariyo |

ਦਲੰ ਦੈਤ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
dalan dait maariyo |

The goddess killed Nisumbh and destroyed the army of demons.

ਸਬੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਭਾਜੇ ॥
sabai dusatt bhaaje |

ਇਤੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਾਜੇ ॥੩੩॥੧੫੫॥
eitai singh gaaje |33|155|

On this side the lion roared and form the other side all the demons fled.33.155.

ਭਈ ਪੁਹਪ ਬਰਖਾ ॥
bhee puhap barakhaa |

ਗਾਏ ਜੀਤ ਕਰਖਾ ॥
gaae jeet karakhaa |

On the victory of the army of gods, there was rain of flowers.

ਜਯੰ ਸੰਤ ਜੰਪੇ ॥
jayan sant janpe |

ਤ੍ਰਸੇ ਦੈਤ ਕੰਪੇ ॥੩੪॥੧੫੬॥
trase dait kanpe |34|156|

The saints hailed it nd the demos trembled with fear.34.156.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਬਧਹ ਪੰਚਮੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੫॥

Here ends the Fifth Chapter entitled ‘The Killing of Nisumbh’ of Chandi Charitra in BACHITTAR NATAK.5.

ਅਥ ਸੁੰਭ ਜੁਧ ਕਥਨੰ ॥

Now the war with Sumbh is described:

ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਲਘੁੰ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਜੁਝਿਯੋ ਸੁਨਿਯੋ ਸੁੰਭ ਰਾਯੰ ॥
laghun bhraat jujhiyo suniyo sunbh raayan |

When Sumbh heard about the death of his younger brother

ਸਜੈ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਚੜਿਯੋ ਚਉਪ ਚਾਯੰ ॥
sajai sasatr asatran charriyo chaup chaayan |

He, in fury and excitement, marched forward to wage war, bedecking himself with arms and amour.

ਭਯੋ ਨਾਦ ਉਚੰ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਪੂਰ ਗੈਣੰ ॥
bhayo naad uchan rahiyo poor gainan |

There was terrible sound which permeted in the firmament.

ਤ੍ਰਸੰ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਦੈਤ ਕੰਪਿਯੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਨੈਣੰ ॥੧॥੧੫੭॥
trasan devataa dait kanpiyo trinainan |1|157|

Hearing this sound, the gods, demons and Shiva all trembled.1.157.

ਡਰਿਯੋ ਚਾਰ ਬਕਤ੍ਰੰ ਟਰਿਯੋ ਦੇਵ ਰਾਜੰ ॥
ddariyo chaar bakatran ttariyo dev raajan |

Brahma was fightened and the throne of Indra, the king of gods, wavered.

ਡਿਗੇ ਪਬ ਸਰਬੰ ਸ੍ਰਜੇ ਸੁਭ ਸਾਜੰ ॥
ddige pab saraban sraje subh saajan |

Seeing the bedecked form of the demon-king, the mountains also began to fall.

ਪਰੇ ਹੂਹ ਦੈ ਕੈ ਭਰੇ ਲੋਹ ਕ੍ਰੋਹੰ ॥
pare hooh dai kai bhare loh krohan |

Shriking and screaming in great ire the demons appear

ਮਨੋ ਮੇਰ ਕੋ ਸਾਤਵੋ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਸੋਹੰ ॥੨॥੧੫੮॥
mano mer ko saatavo sring sohan |2|158|

Like the seventh peak of Sumeru mountain.2.158.

ਸਜਿਯੋ ਸੈਨ ਸੁਭੰ ਕੀਯੋ ਨਾਦ ਉਚੰ ॥
sajiyo sain subhan keeyo naad uchan |

Bedecking himself, Sumbh raised a terrible sound

ਸੁਣੈ ਗਰਭਣੀਆਨ ਕੇ ਗਰਭ ਮੁਚੰ ॥
sunai garabhaneeaan ke garabh muchan |

Hearing which the pregnancy of women was miscarried.

ਪਰਿਯੋ ਲੋਹ ਕ੍ਰੋਹੰ ਉਠੀ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਝਾਰੰ ॥
pariyo loh krohan utthee sasatr jhaaran |

The furious warriors made continuous use of steel arms and the weapons began to rain.

ਚਵੀ ਚਾਵਡੀ ਡਾਕਣੀਯੰ ਡਕਾਰੰ ॥੩॥੧੫੯॥
chavee chaavaddee ddaakaneeyan ddakaaran |3|159|

The voices of vultures and vampires were heard in the battlefield.3.159.

ਬਹੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਕਟੇ ਚਰਮ ਬਰਮੰ ॥
bahe sasatr asatran katte charam baraman |

With the use of weapons and arms, the winsome armours were being cut

ਭਲੇ ਕੈ ਨਿਬਾਹਿਯੋ ਭਟੰ ਸੁਆਮਿ ਧਰਮੰ ॥
bhale kai nibaahiyo bhattan suaam dharaman |

And the warriors performed their religious duties in a nice manner.

ਉਠੀ ਕੂਹ ਜੂਹੰ ਗਿਰੇ ਚਉਰ ਚੀਰੰ ॥
autthee kooh joohan gire chaur cheeran |

There was consternation in the whole battlefield and the canopies and garments began to fall.

ਰੁਲੇ ਤਛ ਮੁਛੰ ਪਰੀ ਗਛ ਤੀਰੰ ॥੪॥੧੬੦॥
rule tachh muchhan paree gachh teeran |4|160|

The chopped bodies were being trodden in the dust and because of the infliction of arrows, the warriors were becoming senseless.4.160.

ਗਿਰੇ ਅੰਕੁਸੰ ਬਾਰੁਣੰ ਬੀਰ ਖੇਤੰ ॥
gire ankusan baarunan beer khetan |

The warriors fell in the battlefield along with the elephants and goads.

ਨਚੇ ਕੰਧ ਹੀਣੰ ਕਬੰਧੰ ਅਚੇਤੰ ॥
nache kandh heenan kabandhan achetan |

The headless trunks began to dance senselessly.

ਉਡੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਧ ਬ੍ਰਿਧੰ ਰੜੈ ਕੰਕ ਬੰਕੰ ॥
auddai gridh bridhan rarrai kank bankan |

The large-sized vultures began to fly and the crows with curved beaks began to caw.

ਭਕਾ ਭੁੰਕ ਭੇਰੀ ਡਾਹ ਡੂਹ ਡੰਕੰ ॥੫॥੧੬੧॥
bhakaa bhunk bheree ddaah ddooh ddankan |5|161|

The frightful sound of drums and the clatter of tabors was heard.5.161.

ਟਕਾ ਟੁਕ ਟੋਪੰ ਢਕਾ ਢੁਕ ਢਾਲੰ ॥
ttakaa ttuk ttopan dtakaa dtuk dtaalan |

There was knocking of helmets and the sound of blows on the shields.

ਤਛਾ ਮੁਛ ਤੇਗੰ ਬਕੇ ਬਿਕਰਾਲੰ ॥
tachhaa muchh tegan bake bikaraalan |

The swords began to chop the bodies with terrible noises.

ਹਲਾ ਚਾਲ ਬੀਰੰ ਧਮਾ ਧੰਮਿ ਸਾਗੰ ॥
halaa chaal beeran dhamaa dham saagan |

The warriors were attacked continuously and the clatter of daggers was being heard.

ਪਰੀ ਹਾਲ ਹੂਲੰ ਸੁਣਿਯੋ ਲੋਗ ਨਾਗੰ ॥੬॥੧੬੨॥
paree haal hoolan suniyo log naagan |6|162|

There was such consternation that its noise was heard in the netherworld by the Nagas.6.162.

ਡਕੀ ਡਾਗਣੀ ਜੋਗਣੀਯੰ ਬਿਤਾਲੰ ॥
ddakee ddaaganee joganeeyan bitaalan |

The vampires, female demons, ghosts

ਨਚੇ ਕੰਧ ਹੀਣੰ ਕਬੰਧੰ ਕਪਾਲੰ ॥
nache kandh heenan kabandhan kapaalan |

Headless trunks and the kapalikas are dancing in the battlefield.

ਹਸੇ ਦੇਵ ਸਰਬੰ ਰਿਸ੍ਰਯੋ ਦਾਨਵੇਸੰ ॥
hase dev saraban risrayo daanavesan |

All the gods appear pleased and the demon-king is getting furious.

ਕਿਧੋ ਅਗਨਿ ਜੁਆਲੰ ਭਯੋ ਆਪ ਭੇਸੰ ॥੭॥੧੬੩॥
kidho agan juaalan bhayo aap bhesan |7|163|

It appears that the flame of fire is blazing.7.163.

DOHRA

ਸੁੰਭਾਸੁਰ ਜੇਤਿਕੁ ਅਸੁਰ ਪਠਏ ਕੋਪੁ ਬਢਾਇ ॥
sunbhaasur jetik asur patthe kop badtaae |

All those demons, sent by Sumbh, I great fury

ਤੇ ਦੇਬੀ ਸੋਖਤ ਕਰੇ ਬੂੰਦ ਤਵਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਇ ॥੮॥੧੬੪॥
te debee sokhat kare boond tavaa kee niaae |8|164|

Were destroyed by the goddess like the water-drops on the hot iron-griddle.8.164.

ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ਸੈਣ ਸਜਿ ਕੈ ॥
