ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਹ ਭਯੋ ਮਦ੍ਰਯ ਮਦ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
nrip kah bhayo madray mad bhaaro |

ਸੋਇ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨਹਿ ਸੁਧਹਿ ਸੰਭਾਰੋ ॥
soe rahiyo neh sudheh sanbhaaro |

As the Raja had too much wine, he was intoxicated and fell flat to sleep,

ਪਤਿ ਸੋਯੋ ਲਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
pat soyo leh triy man maahee |

ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਪਛਾਨ੍ਯੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੨੬॥
bhed abhed pachhaanayo naahee |26|

Beholding him in deep slumber, she lost the sense of morality and dishonour.(26)

ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਜਾਨ੍ਯੋ ਸੋਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਗਈ ਜਾਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਧਾਇ ॥
triy jaanayo soyo nripat gee jaar peh dhaae |

Deeming the Raja to be in deep sleep, she ran and reached her lover,

ਜਾਗਤ ਕੋ ਸੋਵਤ ਸਮਝਿ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਲਹਾ ਕੁਕਾਇ ॥੨੭॥
jaagat ko sovat samajh bhed na lahaa kukaae |27|

But she had not acquiesced the secret and had, mistakenly, taken a person fully awake as in deep slumber.(27)

The Raja roused when she had gone, he felt to love her too,

ਬਹੁਰੋ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਪਾਛੋ ਗਹਿਯੋ ॥
bahuro tin ko paachho gahiyo |

ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਤ ਸੁੰਨ੍ਰਯ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਲਹਿਯੋ ॥੨੮॥
kel kamaat sunray grih lahiyo |28|

nirakh raae triy ko ramat sar tan kaan pramaan |

The Raja on seeing two in love flew in rage,

ਅਬ ਇਨ ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਕੋ ਹਨੇ ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਕਸੀ ਕਮਾਨ ॥੨੯॥
ab in duhoonan ko hane yau keh kasee kamaan |29|

And wished to pull out a bow and shoot them both.(29)

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਯੌ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥

After some thinking Raja changed his mind and did not shoot the arrow.

ਯਹ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
yah bichaar man maeh bichaaraa |

ਜਾਰ ਸਹਿਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੌ ਨਹਿ ਮਾਰਾ ॥੩੦॥
jaar sahit triy kau neh maaraa |30|

He thought that woman with her lover should not be killed.(30)

ਜੌ ਇਨ ਕਹ ਅਬ ਮਾਰਿ ਹੌ ਇਮਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਉਡਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
jau in kah ab maar hau im baahar udd jaae |

‘If I kill them now, then the news will soon spread,

ਆਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੌ ਗਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਜਮ ਪੁਰ ਦਈ ਪਠਾਇ ॥੩੧॥
aan purakh sau geh triyaa jam pur dee patthaae |31|

‘That the Raja had killed her while she was making love with a not person.’(31)

ਸੁਨਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਬਰ ਇਕ ਟਕ ਮੁਹਿ ਪਰੀ ॥
sun nrip bar ik ttak muhi paree |

ਸੋ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਸੋਵਤ ਹਮ ਕਰੀ ॥
so tumare sovat ham karee |

‘Oh, My Raja I had fumbled while sleeping with you.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਏਕ ਬਿਧਿ ਦਿਯਾ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
putr ek bidh diyaa hamaare |

ਤੇ ਮੋਕਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਨ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਯਾਰੇ ॥੩੬॥
te mokah praanan te payaare |36|

‘In the dream God gave me a son, who was more precious than my own life.’(36)

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਸੇਜ ਕੇ ਚਹੂੰ ਦਿਸਿ ਲੇਤ ਭਵਰਿਯਾ ਨਿਤ ॥

‘This son kept on going around in the four directions of the bed,

ਵਹੈ ਜਾਨੁ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਫਿਰੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਮਝਿਯਹੁ ਚਿਤ ॥੩੭॥
vahai jaan tumare firee sat samajhiyahu chit |37|

‘That is why I went away from you. Please do believe, it is true.’(37)

ਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੌ ਹਨਿ ਨ ਸਕਿਯੋ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਖੁਰਕ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
priy triy kau han na sakiyo man te khurak na jaae |
