(But Dutt) saw a maid there
There the sage Dutt saw a maid-servant, who, being intoxicated, was rubbing the sandalwood.195.
(She) a woman of good manners
That lady of good conduct was grinding sandalwood single-mindedly in her home
She was focused and not letting Chit get distracted
She had concentrated her mind and seeing her even the portrait was getting shy.196.
Datta took the Sannyasis from him,
He passed by touching his body.
(But) he did not look up
Dutt went that way alongwith the Sannyasis in order to meet her, but she did not raise her head and see whether some king or some pauper was going.197.
Dutt was impressed to see him
And accepted him as the eighth Guru.
Blessed is this blessed maid,
Seeing her impact, Dutt accepted her as the eighth Guru and said, “Blessed is this maid-servant, who is absorbed in love with that Lord.”198.
Let's have this kind of love with God,
When such a love is observed with that Lord, then He is realized
(In love) without consent (the Lord) does not come.
He is not achieved without bringing humility in the mind and all the four Vedas tell this.199.
End of the description of the adoption of Maid-servant as the eighth Guru.
Now begins the description of the adoption of the Trader as the Ninth Guru.
CHAUPAI
The (Muni) who holds the Yogs and the Jats went forward.
Then taking his disciples alongwith him, Dutt, the Yogi with matted locks, moved further
(He) was going on looking at ruins, towns and mountains.
When, passing through the forests, cities and mountains, they went forward, there they saw a trader coming.200.
With wealth that had all its stores filled.
(He) went with a herd of many (laden) bullocks.
Endless sacks ('gaav') were filled with cloves.
His coffers were full of money and he was moving with a good deal of merchandise, he had many bags full of cloves and no one could enumerate them.201.
(He) wanted money day and night.
He desired for more wealth day and night and he had left his home for selling his articles
(He) had no other hope.
He had no other desire except his trade.202.
(He) did not fear the shadow of the sun
He had no fear of sunshine and shade and he was always musing of moving forward day and night
(He) knew no other matter of sin and merit
He had no concern for virtue and vice and he was only absorbed in the relish of trade.203.
Seeing him, Hari's devotee Datta (thought)
That the form of Hari is shining in the world,
If we worship Hari in this way (with fervor),
Seeing him, Dutt, the devotee of the Lord, whose person was revered throughout the world, thought in his mind that in such manner the Lord be remembered, only then that Supreme Purusha i.e. the Lord can be realized.204.
End of the description of the adoption of he Trader as the Ninth Guru.
Now begins the description of the adoption of the Lady-Gardener as the Tenth Guru.
CHAUPAI
(Thence) Muni Dutt went away, giving up hope.
The sage forsaking all desires and observing great silence moved further in a state of apathy
(He) is the fortunate knower of the Supreme Being.
He was a great knower of the Essence, a silence-observer and a lover of the Lord.205.
