ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਸਾਹ ਸੁਤਾ ਅਤਿ ਪਤਿਬ੍ਰਤਾ ਅਧਿਕ ਚਤੁਰ ਮਤਿਵਾਨ ॥
saah sutaa at patibrataa adhik chatur mativaan |Shah's daughter was very talented, clever and intelligent.
ਚਾਰਹੁ ਪਠਿਯੋ ਸੰਦੇਸ ਲਿਖਿ ਚਿਤ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਇਕ ਆਨ ॥੭॥
chaarahu patthiyo sandes likh chit charitr ik aan |7|He thought of a character in his mind and sent a message to the four. 7.

chauapee |twenty four:
ਜੁਦੋ ਜੁਦੋ ਲਿਖਿ ਚਹੂੰਨ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
judo judo likh chahoon patthaayo |The four were sent separately
ਕਿਸ ਕੋ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਕਿਸੂ ਜਤਾਯੋ ॥
kis ko bhed na kisoo jataayo |And did not tell anyone's secret to anyone else.
ਸਖੀ ਭਏ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸਿਖਾਇਸਿ ॥
sakhee bhe ih bhaat sikhaaeis |(He) taught Sakhi thus
ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰਨ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਇਸਿ ॥੮॥
raaj kumaaran bol patthaaeis |8|And invited the Rajkumars. 8.
ਸਾਹੁ ਸੁਤਾ ਬਾਚ ਸਖੀ ਸੋ ॥
saahu sutaa baach sakhee so |Shah's daughter said to Sakhi:

ਜਿਮਿ ਜਿਮਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੁਤ ਆਇ ਹੈ ਉਤਮ ਭੇਖ ਸੁ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
jim jim nrip sut aae hai utam bhekh su dhaar |As the king's sons will come in splendid array,
ਤਿਮਿ ਤਿਮਿ ਪਗਨ ਖਰਾਕ ਤੈ ਕਿਜਿਯੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ॥੯॥
tim tim pagan kharaak tai kijiyo mere dvaar |9|Knocking on my door three times. 9.
ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਜਬ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਆਯੋ ਭੇਖ ਸੁ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
pratham putr jab nripat ko aayo bhekh su dhaar |When the first son of the king came dressed up
ਪਾਇਨ ਕੋ ਖਟਕੋ ਕਿਯੋ ਆਨਿ ਸਖੀ ਤਿਹ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ॥੧੦॥
paaein ko khattako kiyo aan sakhee tih dvaar |10|So Sakhi came and knocked on his door. 10.

ਹਾ ਹਾ ਪਦ ਤਬ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥
haa haa pad tab tarun uchaaro |Then Kumari started uttering the word 'hi hi'
ਹਾਥਨ ਕੌ ਛਤਿਯਾ ਪਰ ਮਾਰੋ ॥
haathan kau chhatiyaa par maaro |And the hands started beating on the chest.
ਕੋਊ ਆਹਿ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ਮੁਹਿ ਠਾਢਾ ॥
koaoo aaeh dvaar muhi tthaadtaa |Someone is standing at my door.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮੁਹਿ ਬਾਢਾ ॥੧੧॥
taa te adhik traas muhi baadtaa |11|So I am very afraid. 11.
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੁਤ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਜਤਨ ਇਕ ਕਰੋ ॥
nrip sut kahiyo jatan ik karo |(Then) told the king's son to make an effort.
ਚਾਰਿ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਹੈਂ ਇਕ ਮੈ ਪਰੋ ॥
chaar sandook hain ik mai paro |Enter one of the four chests.
ਏਕ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਮਾਝ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਦੁਰਿ ॥
ek sandook maajh rahiyo dur |(You) remain hidden in a chest.
ਜੈ ਹੈ ਲੋਕ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਬਿਮੁਖ ਘਰ ॥੧੨॥
jai hai lok bilok bimukh ghar |12|People will return home disappointed after seeing it. 12.
ਇਮਿ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਭੀਤਰ ਤਿਹ ਡਾਰੋ ॥
eim sandook bheetar tih ddaaro |Thus put him in the box
ਦੁਤਿਯ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਹਕਾਰੋ ॥
dutiy nripat ko putr hakaaro |and called the king's second son.
ਪਗ ਖਟਕੋ ਸਹਚਰਿ ਤਬ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
pag khattako sahachar tab keeno |(When he came home) then Sakhi stamped his foot
ਦੁਤਿਯ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਡਾਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੧੩॥
dutiy sandook ddaar tih deeno |13|And locked him in another chest. 13.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਇਹ ਛਲ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਚਾਰਿ ਸੁਤ ਚਹੂੰ ਸੰਦੂਕਨ ਡਾਰਿ ॥
eih chhal nrip ke chaar sut chahoon sandookan ddaar |With this trick, the four sons of the king were put in four chests
ਤਿਨ ਪਿਤੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਪਯਾਨੋ ਕਿਯੋ ਉਤਿਮ ਭੇਖ ਸੁ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧੪॥
tin pit grih payaano kiyo utim bhekh su dhaar |14|And disguised herself, she went to the house of their father (the king). 14.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਚਾਰਿ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਸੰਗ ਲੀਨੇ ਕਰ ॥
chaar sandook sang leene kar |He took all four with the chest
ਪਹੁਚਤ ਭਈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੈ ਦਰ ਪਰ ॥
pahuchat bhee nripat kai dar par |And reached the king's door.
ਜਬ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
jab raajaa ko roop nihaariyo |When he saw the form of the king
ਤਾ ਪਰ ਵਾਰ ਨਦੀ ਤਿਨ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੫॥
taa par vaar nadee tin ddaariyo |15|(Then) he threw the four boxes into the river. 15.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਵਾਰਿ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪਰ ਦਏ ਨਦੀ ਮੈ ਡਾਰਿ ॥
vaar sandook nripaal par de nadee mai ddaar |The king took the chest from him and threw it into the river.
ਸਭ ਛਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਛਿਨ ਮੋ ਛਲਾ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੧੬॥
sabh chhatrin chhin mo chhalaa koaoo na sakaa bichaar |16|All the umbrellas were tricked and no one could consider (this trick). 16.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਧੰਨ੍ਯ ਧੰਨ੍ਯ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥
dhanay dhanay sabh lok bakhaanai |All the people began to say blessed,
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
bhed abhed na moorakh jaanai |But the fools did not understand the difference.
ਭੂਪ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਿਹ ਅਧਿਕ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
bhoop bhagat tih adhik bichaariyo |The king considered him as his supreme devotee
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ ਇਤੋ ਜਿਨ ਵਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੭॥
nrip par darab ito jin vaariyo |17|(Because) he had given so much money from the king. 17.
ਤਬ ਰਾਜੇ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
tab raaje ih bhaat uchaariyo |Then the king said thus
ਸਾਹ ਸੁਤਾ ਜੇਤੋ ਧਨ ਵਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
saah sutaa jeto dhan vaariyo |That the Shah's daughter has accumulated as much wealth,
ਛੋਰਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਤਿਤੋ ਤਿਹ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
chhor bhanddaar tito tih deejai |Open the treasure and give that much money to him.
ਮੰਤ੍ਰਨ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਲੰਬ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੧੮॥
mantran kahaa bilanb na keejai |18|(The king) told the ministers not to delay. 18.
ਚਾਰਿ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਅਸਰਫੀ ਦੀਨੀ ॥
chaar sandook asarafee deenee |(He was given) four chests (filled) with Ashrafis.
