ਆਸਨ ਅਰਧ ਦਯੋ ਤੁਹ ਯਾ ਬ੍ਰਤ ॥
aasan aradh dayo tuh yaa brat |

He said, “O king! do not strike Indra, there is reason on his part for offering you half of his seat

ਹੈ ਲਵਨਾਸ੍ਰ ਮਹਾਸੁਰ ਭੂਧਰਿ ॥
hai lavanaasr mahaasur bhoodhar |

(It happened because) because you called 'Lavanasura' on earth

ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਮਾਰ ਸਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਕਿਉ ਕਰ ॥੧੧੧॥
taeh na maar sake tum kiau kar |111|

There is one demon named Lavanasura on earth, why have you not been able to kill him as yet?111.

ਜੌ ਤੁਮ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੰਘਾਰ ਕੈ ਆਵਹੁ ॥
jau tum taeh sanghaar kai aavahu |

If you do, you will kill him

ਤੌ ਤੁਮ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
tau tum indr singhaasan paavahu |

Then you will attain (full) Indra seat.

ਐਸੇ ਕੈ ਅਰਧ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਬੈਠਹੁ ॥
aaise kai aradh singhaasan baitthahu |

Therefore (you) sit on half the throne.

ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੋ ਪਰ ਨਾਕੁ ਨ ਐਠਹੁ ॥੧੧੨॥
saach kaho par naak na aaitthahu |112|

“When you will come after killing him, you will then have the full seat of Indra, therefore now be seated on half the seat and accepting this truth, do not exhibit your anger.”112.

ਅਸਤਰ ਛੰਦ ॥

ASTAR STANZA

ਧਾਯੋ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤਹਾ ॥
dhaayo asatr lai ke tahaa |

(Raj Mandhata) took the astra (bow) and ran there,

ਮਥੁਰਾ ਮੰਡਲ ਦਾਨੋ ਥਾ ਜਹਾ ॥
mathuraa manddal daano thaa jahaa |

The king, taking up his weapons, reached there, where the demon lived in Mathura-Mandal

ਮਹਾ ਗਰਬੁ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਮਹਾ ਮੰਦ ਬੁਧੀ ॥
mahaa garab kai kai mahaa mand budhee |

That great evil-minded (demon) became proud

ਮਹਾ ਜੋਰ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਦਲੰ ਪਰਮ ਕ੍ਰੁਧੀ ॥੧੧੩॥
mahaa jor kai kai dalan param krudhee |113|

He was a great stupid and an egoist, he was a most powerful one and dreadfully outrageous.113.

ਮਹਾ ਘੋਰ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਘਨੰ ਕੀ ਘਟਾ ਜਿਯੋ ॥
mahaa ghor kai kai ghanan kee ghattaa jiyo |

Like the black scum of the substitute, playing a lot of yards

ਸੁ ਧਾਇਆ ਰਣੰ ਬਿਜੁਲੀ ਕੀ ਛਟਾ ਜਿਯੋ ॥
su dhaaeaa ranan bijulee kee chhattaa jiyo |

Thundering like the clouds Mandhata fell upon (the demon) in the battlefield like lightning

ਸੁਨੇ ਸਰਬ ਦਾਨੋ ਸੁ ਸਾਮੁਹਿ ਸਿਧਾਇ ॥
sune sarab daano su saamuhi sidhaae |

MEDAK STANZA

ਮਹਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਨਚਾਏ ॥੧੧੪॥
mahaa krodh kai kai su baajee nachaae |114|

When the demons heard this, they also confronted him and furioudly caused their horses to dance.114.

ਮੇਦਕ ਛੰਦ ॥
medak chhand |

Medak Verse:

ਅਬ ਏਕ ਕੀਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਯੌ ਨ ਟਰੈ ॥
ab ek kee bin yau na ttarai |

Now (from both) they will not avoid like this without making one.

ਦੋਊ ਦਾਤਨ ਪੀਸ ਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਪਰੈ ॥
doaoo daatan pees hankaar parai |

The king was determined to kill him and body of the enemies, grinding their teeth and challenging each other began to fight violently

ਜਬ ਲੌ ਨ ਸੁਨੋ ਲਵ ਖੇਤ ਮਰਾ ॥
jab lau na suno lav khet maraa |

Until he hears that 'Lavanasura has died in battle',

ਤਬ ਲਉ ਨ ਲਖੋ ਰਨਿ ਬਾਜ ਟਰਾ ॥੧੧੫॥
tab lau na lakho ran baaj ttaraa |115|

The king did not stop the showering of arrows, as he waited to get the news of the death of Lavansaura.115.

ਅਬ ਹੀ ਰਣਿ ਏਕ ਕੀ ਏਕ ਕਰੈ ॥
ab hee ran ek kee ek karai |

Now they (want) to be the only ones in Ran.

ਬਿਨੁ ਏਕ ਕੀਏ ਰਣਿ ਤੇ ਨ ਟਰੈ ॥
bin ek kee ran te na ttarai |

Both of them had the same objective and did not want to leave the battle without killing the opponent

ਬਹੁ ਸਾਲ ਸਿਲਾ ਤਲ ਬ੍ਰਿਛ ਛੁਟੇ ॥
bahu saal silaa tal brichh chhutte |

Many years of debris and stones have come down

ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰਿ ਜਬੈ ਰਣ ਬੀਰ ਜੁਟੇ ॥੧੧੬॥
duhoon or jabai ran beer jutte |116|

Both the warriors showered trees and stones etc. from both the sides.116.

ਕੁਪ ਕੈ ਲਵ ਪਾਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲ ਲਯੋ ॥
kup kai lav paan trisool layo |

Lavanasur got angry and held the trident in his hand

ਸਿਰਿ ਧਾਤਯਮਾਨ ਦੁਖੰਡ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
sir dhaatayamaan dukhandd kiyo |

Lavanasura held his trident in his hand in anger and chopped the head of Mandhata into two parts

ਬਹੁ ਜੂਥਪ ਜੂਥਨ ਸੈਨ ਭਜੀ ॥
bahu joothap joothan sain bhajee |

All the generals and many units of the army fled

ਨ ਉਚਾਇ ਸਕੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਐਸ ਲਜੀ ॥੧੧੭॥
n uchaae sakai sir aais lajee |117|

The army of Mandhata ran away, being grouped together and got so much ashmed that it could not carry the head of the king.117.

ਘਨ ਜੈਸੇ ਭਜੇ ਘਨ ਘਾਇਲ ਹੁਐ ॥
ghan jaise bhaje ghan ghaaeil huaai |

(With the wind) as the changelings are driven away, so many are (being driven away) wounded.

ਬਰਖਾ ਜਿਮਿ ਸ੍ਰੋਣਤ ਧਾਰ ਚੁਐ ॥
barakhaa jim sronat dhaar chuaai |

The army, getting wounded, flew away like clouds and the blood flowed as if it was raining

ਸਭ ਮਾਨ ਮਹੀਪਤਿ ਛੇਤ੍ਰਹਿ ਦੈ ॥
sabh maan maheepat chhetreh dai |

By offering an offering of war-grounds to the best-honoured king

ਸਬ ਹੀ ਦਲ ਭਾਜਿ ਚਲਾ ਜੀਅ ਲੈ ॥੧੧੮॥
sab hee dal bhaaj chalaa jeea lai |118|

Abandoning the dead king in the battlefield, the whole army of the king saved itself by fleeing away.118.

ਇਕ ਘੂਮਤ ਘਾਇਲ ਸੀਸ ਫੁਟੇ ॥
eik ghoomat ghaaeil sees futte |

One is walking around injured, one has their head torn off,

ਇਕ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਚੁਚਾਵਤ ਕੇਸ ਛੁਟੇ ॥
eik sron chuchaavat kes chhutte |

Those who returned, their heads cracked, their hair were loosened and being wounded, the blood flowed form their heads

ਰਣਿ ਮਾਰ ਕੈ ਮਾਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲ ਲੀਏ ॥
ran maar kai maan trisool lee |

Mandhata king has been killed by hitting the trident in the battlefield

ਭਟ ਭਾਤਹਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਜਾਇ ਦੀਏ ॥੧੧੯॥
bhatt bhaateh bhaat bhajaae dee |119|

In this way, Lavanasura won the battle on the strength of his trident and caused the warriors of many kinds to run away.119.

ਇਤਿ ਮਾਨਧਾਤਾ ਰਾਜ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥੭॥੫॥
eit maanadhaataa raaj samaapatan |7|5|

End of the killing of Mandhata.

ਅਥ ਦਲੀਪ ਕੋ ਰਾਜ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
ath daleep ko raaj kathanan |

Now begins the description of the rule of Dileep

TOTAK STANZA

ਰਣ ਮੋ ਮਾਨ ਮਹੀਪ ਹਏ ॥
ran mo maan maheep he |

When King Mandhata was killed in the battlefield,

ਤਬ ਆਨਿ ਦਿਲੀਪ ਦਿਲੀਸ ਭਏ ॥
tab aan dileep dilees bhe |

When Mandhata was killed in the war, then Dileep became the king of Delhi

ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿਨ ਦਾਨਵ ਦੀਹ ਦਲੇ ॥
bahu bhaatin daanav deeh dale |

CHAUPI

ਸਬ ਠੌਰ ਸਬੈ ਉਠਿ ਧਰਮ ਪਲੇ ॥੧੨੦॥
sab tthauar sabai utth dharam pale |120|

He destroyed the demons in various ways and propagated religion at all places.120.

ਜਬ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਹਨਾ ਮਾਨਧਾਤਾ ਬਰ ॥
jab nrip hanaa maanadhaataa bar |

When Lavanasura gave it to Shiva in his hand

ਸਿਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲ ਕਰਿ ਧਰਿ ਲਵਨਾਸੁਰ ॥
siv trisool kar dhar lavanaasur |

When taking the trident of Shiva, Lavanasura killed the superb king mandhata, then the king Dileep came to the throne

ਭਯੋ ਦਲੀਪ ਜਗਤ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
bhayo daleep jagat ko raajaa |

Then Dulip became the king of the world,

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਜਿਹ ਰਾਜ ਬਿਰਾਜਾ ॥੧੨੧॥
bhaat bhaat jih raaj biraajaa |121|

He had various types of royal luxuries.121.

ਮਹਾਰਥੀ ਅਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਰਾ ॥
mahaarathee ar mahaa nripaaraa |

(He) the great charioteer and the great king (was so beautiful).

ਕਨਕ ਅਵਟਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਜਨੁ ਢਾਰਾ ॥
kanak avatt saache jan dtaaraa |

This king was a great warrior any Sovereign

ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਜਨੁ ਮਦਨ ਸਰੂਪਾ ॥
at sundar jan madan saroopaa |

(He) was very beautiful as if he was the form of Kama Dev

ਜਾਨੁਕ ਬਨੇ ਰੂਪ ਕੋ ਭੂਪਾ ॥੧੨੨॥
jaanuk bane roop ko bhoopaa |122|

It seemed that he had been shaped in a mould of gold, like the form of the god of love, this king was so beautiful, that he appeared to be the Sovereign of Beauty.122.

ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਗ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥
bahu bidh kare jag bisathaaraa |

(He) performed many yagnas

ਬਿਧਵਤ ਹੋਮ ਦਾਨ ਮਖਸਾਰਾ ॥
bidhavat hom daan makhasaaraa |

He performed various types of Yajnas and executed hom and bestowed charities according to Vedic injunctions

ਧਰਮ ਧੁਜਾ ਜਹ ਤਹ ਬਿਰਾਜੀ ॥
dharam dhujaa jah tah biraajee |

Where religious flags were adorning

ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਵਤੀ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਦੁਤਿ ਲਾਜੀ ॥੧੨੩॥
eindraavatee nirakh dut laajee |123|

His banner of the extension of Dharma fluttered here and there and seeing his glory, the abode of Indra felt shy.123.

ਪਗ ਪਗ ਜਗਿ ਖੰਭ ਕਹੁ ਗਾਡਾ ॥
pag pag jag khanbh kahu gaaddaa |

Step by step, the foundations of the Yagya were built.

ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਅੰਨ ਸਾਲ ਕਰਿ ਛਾਡਾ ॥
ghar ghar an saal kar chhaaddaa |

He got planted the columns of Yajnas at short distances

ਭੂਖਾ ਨਾਗ ਜੁ ਆਵਤ ਕੋਈ ॥
bhookhaa naag ju aavat koee |

If a hungry person comes naked (to someone's house),

ਤਤਛਿਨ ਇਛ ਪੁਰਾਵਤ ਸੋਈ ॥੧੨੪॥
tatachhin ichh puraavat soee |124|

And caused the granaries of corn to be built in every home, the hungry or naked, whosoever came, his desire was fulfilled Immediately.124.

ਜੋ ਜਿਹੰ ਮੁਖ ਮਾਗਾ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
jo jihan mukh maagaa tih paavaa |

He who asked from his mouth, (he) got the same thing.

ਬਿਮੁਖ ਆਸ ਫਿਰਿ ਭਿਛਕ ਨ ਆਵਾ ॥
bimukh aas fir bhichhak na aavaa |

Whosoever asked for anything, he obtained it and no beggar returned without the fulfillment of his wish

ਧਾਮਿ ਧਾਮਿ ਧੁਜਾ ਧਰਮ ਬਧਾਈ ॥
dhaam dhaam dhujaa dharam badhaaee |

Religious flags were tied in every house

ਧਰਮਾਵਤੀ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਮੁਰਛਾਈ ॥੧੨੫॥
dharamaavatee nirakh murachhaaee |125|

The banner of Dharma flew on every home and seeing this the abode of Dharamraja also became unconscious.125.

ਮੂਰਖ ਕੋਊ ਰਹੈ ਨਹਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
moorakh koaoo rahai neh paavaa |

No fool was allowed to remain (in the whole country).

ਬਾਰ ਬੂਢ ਸਭ ਸੋਧਿ ਪਢਾਵਾ ॥
baar boodt sabh sodh padtaavaa |

No one remained ignorant and all children and old people studied intelligently

ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਤ ਭਈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
ghar ghar hot bhee har sevaa |

Hari's service was started from house to house.

ਜਹ ਤਹ ਮਾਨਿ ਸਬੈ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੧੨੬॥
jah tah maan sabai gur devaa |126|

There was the worship of the Lord in every home and the Lord was abored nad honoured everywhere.126.

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਾਜ ਦਿਲੀਪ ਬਡੋ ਕਰਿ ॥
eih bidh raaj dileep baddo kar |

In this way, Duleep made a great reign

ਮਹਾਰਥੀ ਅਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਧਨੁਰ ਧਰ ॥
mahaarathee ar mahaa dhanur dhar |

Such was the rule of king Dileep, who himself was great warrior and a great archer

ਕੋਕ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸੁਰ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
kok saasatr simrit sur giaanaa |

Great knowledge of Kok Shastra, Simritis etc.
