ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ ਤਿਹ ਸੋ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
kinahoon na tih so judh machaayo |None of them went forward to fight with the king
ਚਿਤਿ ਸਬ ਹੂੰ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਓ ॥
chit sab hoon ih bhaat bichaario |
ਇਹ ਨਹੀ ਮਰੈ ਕਿਸੀ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਓ ॥੧੫੪੯॥
eih nahee marai kisee te maario |1549|All of them thought that this king would not be killed by anyone.1549.
ਤਬ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟ ਉਚਾਰਿਓ ॥
tab brahame har nikatt uchaario |Then Brahma seeing all the army of Krishna having died,
ਜਬ ਸਗਲੋ ਦਲ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਓ ॥
jab sagalo dal nripat sanghaario |He said to Krishna having died, he said to Krishna,
ਜਬ ਲਗਿ ਇਹ ਤੇਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਮੋ ਹੈ ॥
jab lag ih tetaa kar mo hai |“Till the time, he has the charmed amulet in his hand,
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਬਜ੍ਰ ਸੂਲ ਧਰਿ ਕੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੫੫੦॥
tab lag bajr sool dhar ko hai |1550|The vajra and trident are insignificant before him.1550.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਇਹੈ ਕਾਜ ਅਬ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
taa te ihai kaaj ab keejai |
ਭਿਛਕਿ ਹੋਇ ਮਾਗਿ ਸੋ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
bhichhak hoe maag so leejai |“Therefore now becoming a beggar, beg this from him
ਮੁਕਟ ਰਾਮ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
mukatt raam te jo ih paayo |
ਸੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿਕ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੫੫੧॥
so indraadik haath na aayo |1551|The crown that he has obtained from Ram, it could not be obtained by Indra etc.1551.
ਜਬ ਤੇਤਾ ਇਹ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
jab tetaa ih kar te leejai |
ਤਬ ਯਾ ਕੋ ਬਧ ਛਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
tab yaa ko badh chhin meh keejai |“When you will take away the amulet from his hand, you will then be able to kill him in an instant
ਜਿਹ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਰਿ ਤੇ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
jih upaae kar te paraharai |
ਤਉ ਕਦਾਚ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਮਰੈ ਤੋ ਮਰੈ ॥੧੫੫੨॥
tau kadaach nrip marai to marai |1552|If he abandons it from his hand through any method, then he can be killed at any time.”1552.
ਯੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਿਜ ਬੇਖ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
yo sun har dij bekh banaayo |
ਮਾਗਨ ਤਿਹ ਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
maagan tih pai har bidh aayo |Hearing this, Krishna and Brahma put on the garb of a Brahmin and went to beg the amulet from him
ਤਬ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲਖਿ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
tab ih sayaam braham lakh leeno |
ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਇਮ ਉਤਰ ਦੀਨੋ ॥੧੫੫੩॥
sayaam kahai im utar deeno |1553|Then on begging, he recognised Krishna and Brahma and according to the poet he said,1553

ਬੇਖੁ ਕੀਓ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਮਨ ਕੋ ਬਲਿ ਬਾਵਨ ਜਿਉ ਛਲਬੇ ਕਹੁ ਆਯੋ ॥
bekh keeo har baaman ko bal baavan jiau chhalabe kahu aayo |
ਰੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਤੂ ਬਸਿ ਕਾਨਨ ਕਾ ਕੇ ਕਹੇ ਤਪਿਸਾ ਤਜ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
re chaturaanan too bas kaanan kaa ke kahe tapisaa taj dhaayo |“O Krishna (Vishnu)! you have put on the garb of a Brahmin and have come to deceive me like the king Bali
ਧੂਮ ਤੇ ਆਗ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਦੁਰੀ ਜਿਮ ਤਿਉ ਛਲ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਕੇ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
dhoom te aag rahai na duree jim tiau chhal te tum ke lakh paayo |“Just as the fire cannot be concealed by smoke, in the same manner, seeing you, I have understood your act of deceit
ਮਾਗਹੁ ਜੋ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਅਬ ਮਾਗਨਹਾਰੇ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥੧੫੫੪॥
maagahu jo tumare man mai ab maaganahaare ko roop banaayo |1554|When you people have come in the garb of a beggar, then beg from me according to you heart’s desire.1554.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |DOHRA
ਜਬ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਕਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜਸ ਲੇਹੁ ॥
jab ih bidh so nrip kahiyo kahee braham jas lehu |
ਜਗ ਅਨਲ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਕਟਿ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਸੋ ਮੁਹਿ ਦੇਹੁ ॥੧੫੫੫॥
jag anal te jo mukatt upajio so muhi dehu |1555|When the king said like this to Brahma, then Brahma said, “O king! Become praiseworthy and give me the crown that had come out of the fire of Yajna.”1555.
ਜਬ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨਿ ਯੌ ਕਹੀ ਪੁਨਿ ਬੋਲਿਓ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ॥
jab chaturaanan yau kahee pun bolio jadubeer |
ਗਉਰਾ ਤੇਤਾ ਤੁਹਿ ਦਯੋ ਸੋ ਮੁਹਿ ਦੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਧੀਰ ॥੧੫੫੬॥
gauraa tetaa tuhi dayo so muhi de nrip dheer |1556|When Brahma had begged it, then Krishna spoke, “Give me the amulet that had been given to you by the goddess Chandi.”1556.

ਤਬ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਹੈ ॥
tab nrip man ko ih bidh kahai |
ਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੀਯਤ ਨ ਚਹੁੰ ਜੁਗ ਰਹੈ ॥
re jeea jeeyat na chahun jug rahai |Then the king thought in his mind that he had not to live for four ages, therefore he should not delay in this task of Dharma and
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੁ ਧਰਮ ਢੀਲ ਨਹਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
taa te su dharam dteel neh keejai |
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਗਤ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੧੫੫੭॥
jo har maagat so ih deejai |1557|The things that Brhma and Krishna are begging, he should give them.1557.
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥
savaiyaa |SWAYYA
ਕਿਉ ਤਨ ਕੀ ਮਨਿ ਸੰਕ ਕਰੈ ਥਿਰ ਤੋ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਅਬ ਤੂ ਨ ਰਹੈ ਹੈ ॥
kiau tan kee man sank karai thir to jag mai ab too na rahai hai |‘O mind! why are you in doubt about the body, you have not to remain stable in the world for ever
ਯਾ ਤੇ ਭਲੋ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਇਹ ਤੇ ਜਸੁ ਲੈ ਰਨ ਅੰਤਹਿ ਮੋ ਤਜਿ ਜੈ ਹੈ ॥
yaa te bhalo na kachhoo ih te jas lai ran anteh mo taj jai hai |What more virtuous act you can perform? Therefore do this praiseworthy task in the war, because ultimately once, the body is to be abandoned
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਢੀਲ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਗਹਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਤੇ ਅਉਸਰ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤੈ ਹੈ ॥
re man dteel rahiyo geh kaahe te aausar beet ge pachhutai hai |‘O mind! do not delay, because you will avail nothing except repentance, when the opportunity is lost
ਸੋਕ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਹੁਇ ਦੈ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸੋ ਭਿਛਕ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਐ ਹੈ ॥੧੫੫੮॥
sok nivaar nisank hue dai bhagavaan so bhichhak haath na aai hai |1558|Therefore forsaking anxiety, give away the begged articles without any hesitation, because you will never again get such beggar like the Lord himself .
ਮਾਗਤ ਜੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਅਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੋ ਤਜਿ ਸੰਕ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਹੁਇ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
maagat jo bidh sayaam are man so taj sank nisank hue deejai |‘Whatever Krishna is asking for, O my mind! give it without any hesitation
ਜਾਚਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਹ ਤੇ ਸਗਰੋ ਜਗ ਸੋ ਤੁਹਿ ਮਾਗਤ ਢੀਲ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
jaachat hai jih te sagaro jag so tuhi maagat dteel na keejai |He, from whom all the world begs, he is standing before you as a beggar, therefore do not delay further
ਅਉਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੋ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਅਬ ਯਾ ਮਹਿ ਤੋ ਨ ਰਤੀ ਸੁਖ ਛੀਜੈ ॥
aaur bichaar karo na kachhoo ab yaa meh to na ratee sukh chheejai |‘Leave all other ideas, there will remain no shortage in your comfort
ਦਾਨਨ ਦੇਤ ਨ ਮਾਨ ਕਰੋ ਬਸੁ ਦੈ ਅਸੁ ਦੈ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਜਸੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੧੫੫੯॥
daanan det na maan karo bas dai as dai jag mai jas leejai |1559|On giving charity, one should not be proud and thoughtful: therefore get the profit of approbation after surrendering everything.”1559.
ਬਾਮਨ ਬੇਖ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਜੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਤਿਹ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
baaman bekh kai sayaam ju chaahat sree har ko tih bhoopat deeno |Whatever Krishna had begged in the garb of a Brahmin, the king have the same to him
ਜੋ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਕੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਕਬਿ ਰਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਵਹੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
jo chaturaanan ke chit mai kab raam kahai su vahai nrip keeno |Alongwith this, whatever was in the mind of Brahma the king also did that
ਜੋ ਵਹ ਮਾਗਤਿ ਸੋਊ ਦਯੋ ਤਬ ਦੇਤ ਸਮੈ ਰਸ ਮੈ ਮਨ ਭੀਨੋ ॥
jo vah maagat soaoo dayo tab det samai ras mai man bheeno |Whatever they had asked for, the king handed it over affectionately
ਦਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਕਨ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਜਸੁ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੧੫੬੦॥
daan kripaan duhoon bidh kai tihu lokan mai at hee jas leeno |1560|In this way with charity and with sword, in the bravery of both kinds, the king earned great praise.1560.
