ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਗੁਫਾ ਕੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਧਸਿ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਆਯੋ ॥੨੦੫੪॥

kaanrah gufaa ke bikhai dhas kai tih te bahure nahee baahar aayo |2054|

He ran towards Balram to consult him, but he also told the same thing that Krishna went into the cave, bud did not turn back.2054.

SWAYYA

ਕੈ ਲਰਿ ਕੈ ਅਰਿ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਨ ਆਪਨ ਕੋ ਜਮਲੋਕਿ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥

kai lar kai ar kaahoo ke sang tan aapan ko jamalok patthaayo |

Either by fighting with an enemy (Sri Krishna) sent his body to Yamaloka.

ਖੋਜਤ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਯਾ ਜੜ ਕੀ ਬਲਿ ਲੋਕਿ ਗਯੋ ਕੋਊ ਮਾਰਗ ਪਾਯੋ ॥

khojat kai man yaa jarr kee bal lok gayo koaoo maarag paayo |

“Either Krishna has been killed at the hands of the enemy or has gone to the nether-world in search of the jewel of this foolish Satrajit,

ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਲੈ ਇਹ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਗਯੋ ਜਮ ਲੈ ਤਿਨ ਲੈਨ ਕਉ ਧਾਯੋ ॥

kai man lai ih bhraat ke praan gayo jam lai tin lain kau dhaayo |

Or his brother's Prana and Mani has been taken away by Yama, has gone (there) to fetch them.

ਕੈ ਇਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੋ ਸੁ ਕੁਬੋਲ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਹੁਇ ਲਜਾਤੁਰ ਧਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥੨੦੫੫॥

kai ih moorakh ko su kubol lagiyo hue lajaatur dhaam na aayo |2055|

“Or he has gone to bring back the life-force (soul) of his brother from Yama or he has not returned after feeling shy of the words of this foolish man.”2055.

ਰੋਇ ਜਬੈ ਸੰਗ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮੁਸਲੀ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

roe jabai sang bhoopat ko mukh te musalee ih bhaat uchaariyo |

When the king (Ugrasain) passed by Balarama, weeping, said thus,

ਤਉ ਸਤ੍ਰਾਜਿਤ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਜਾਦਵ ਲਾਤਨ ਮੂਕਨ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

tau satraajit kau mil kai sabh jaadav laatan mookan maariyo |

When Balram said all this to the king while weeping, then all the Yadavas together beat Satrajit with legs and fists

ਪਾਗ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਈ ਮੁਸਕੈ ਗਹਿ ਗੋਡਨ ਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਕੂਪ ਕੇ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

paag utaar dee musakai geh goddan te madh koop ke ddaariyo |

His turban was removed and tying his hands and feet, he was thrown in a well

ਛੋਡਬੋ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਕਿਹੂ ਸਭ ਹੂ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਬਧਬੋ ਚਿਤਿ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੦੫੬॥

chhoddabo taa ke kahiyo na kihoo sabh hoo tih ko badhabo chit dhaariyo |2056|

No one advised for his release and contemplated to kill him.2056.

ਕਾਨਰ ਕੀ ਜਬ ਏ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਨਾਰਿਨ ਜਉ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

kaanar kee jab e bateeyaa prabh kee sabh naarin jau sun paaee |

When all the wives of Sri Krishna heard these words of Krishna,

ਰੋਵਤ ਭੀ ਕੋਊ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਰੀ ਗਿਰ ਪੀਟਤ ਭੀ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਦੁਚਿਤਾਈ ॥

rovat bhee koaoo bhoom paree gir peettat bhee kar kai duchitaaee |

When the women heard these things regarding Krihsna, they fell down weeping on the earth and some of them lamented

ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਪਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜੇ ਅਬ ਹੁਇ ਹੈ ਕਹਾ ਹਮਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਾਈ ॥

ek kahai pat praan taje ab hue hai kahaa hamaree gat maaee |

Many say, the husband has given up his life, O mother! What will happen to us now?

ਅਉਰ ਰੁਕਮਨਿ ਦੇਤ ਦਿਜੋਤਮ ਦਾਨ ਸਤੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਹੋਬੇ ਕਉ ਆਈ ॥੨੦੫੭॥

aaur rukaman det dijotam daan satee fun hobe kau aaee |2057|

Someone said that her husband had breathed his last, what would be her condition then, Rukmani gave gifts to the Brahmins and thought of becoming a Sati (dying on the funeral pyre of the husband).2057.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਬਸੁਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਚਿਤਹਿ ਬਢਾਇ ॥

basudev ar devakee dubidhaa chiteh badtaae |

Doubt increased in the mind of Basudev and Devaki.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਹੇਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਰਜਿਓ ਰੁਕਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੨੦੫੮॥

prabh gat dvai bidh her kai barajio rukaman aae |2058|

Vasudev and Devaki, becoming extremely anxious, and thinking about the unapproachable will of the Lord, restrained Rukmani from becoming a Sati.2058.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਬਧੂ ਹੂ ਕੋ ਦੇਵਕੀ ਆਇ ਸੁ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਭਨੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਯਾ ਸਮਝਾਯੋ ॥

putr badhoo hoo ko devakee aae su sayaam bhanai bidh yaa samajhaayo |

Devaki instructed her daughter-in-law in this way

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੂਝ ਮਰੇ ਰਨ ਮੋ ਜਰਿਬੋ ਤੁਹਿ ਕੋ ਨਿਸਚੈ ਬਨਿ ਆਯੋ ॥

jo har joojh mare ran mo jaribo tuhi ko nisachai ban aayo |

That if Krishna had died in a war, then it was appropriate for her to become a Sati, but if he had gone far beyond in search of the jewel (of Satrajit), then it is not right to become a Sati
