ਸੁਨਤ ਬੈਨ ਬੇਗਮ ਡਰਪਾਨੀ ॥
sunat bain begam ddarapaanee |Begum got scared after hearing (the king's) words
ਥਰਹਰ ਕੰਪਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਨੀ ॥
tharahar kanpaa mitr tih maanee |And his proud friend also trembled.
ਅਬ ਹੀ ਮੁਝੈ ਭੂਪ ਗਹਿ ਲੈ ਹੈ ॥
ab hee mujhai bhoop geh lai hai |(and began to say) I will now be seized by the king
ਇਸੀ ਬਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਚੁਕੈ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥
eisee ban bikhai maar chukai hai |16|And he will kill in this forest. 16.
ਨਾਰਿ ਕਹੀ ਪਿਯ ਜਿਨ ਜਿਯ ਡਰੋ ॥
naar kahee piy jin jiy ddaro |The woman said to the lover, (you) do not be afraid in your mind.
ਕਹੌ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਤੁਮੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੋ ॥
kahau charitr tumai so karo |Do what Charitra (I) tells you.
ਕਰੀ ਰੂਖ ਕੇ ਤਰੈ ਨਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
karee rookh ke tarai nikaaraa |(He) pulled the elephant out from under a bridge
ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹਾ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਤਹ ਯਾਰਾ ॥੧੭॥

ਆਪੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਿਯਾ ਪਯਾਨਾ ॥
aap pitaa prat kiyaa payaanaa |She came to her father
ਮਾਰੇ ਰੀਛ ਰੋਝ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਨਾਨਾ ॥
maare reechh rojh mrig naanaa |And killed (in hunting) many bears, deer and deer.
ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਚੁਪ ਰਹਾ ॥

ਉਸੀ ਸਖੀ ਕੋ ਪਲਟਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਾ ॥
ausee sakhee ko palatt prahaaraa |On the contrary, the same Sakhi was killed (by the king).
ਝੂਠ ਬਚਨ ਇਨ ਮੁਝੈ ਉਚਾਰਾ ॥
jhootth bachan in mujhai uchaaraa |That he told me a lie.
ਖੇਲਿ ਅਖੇਟ ਭੂਪ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਯੋ ॥
khel akhett bhoop grih aayo |The king came home after playing hunting.
ਤਿਸੀ ਬਿਰਛ ਤਰ ਕਰੀ ਲਖਾਯੋ ॥੧੯॥
tisee birachh tar karee lakhaayo |19|(The virgin) passed the elephant under that bridge. 19.

ਹੋ ਹਮਰੌ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਸਕਿਯੋ ਪਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥੨੦॥

ਪਹਿਲੇ ਰੂਖ ਚੜਾਇ ਤਿਹ ਲੈ ਆਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਧਾਮ ॥
pahile rookh charraae tih lai aaee fir dhaam |First put her on the brich and then brought her home.
ਉਲਟਾ ਤਿਹ ਝੂਠਾ ਕਿਯਾ ਭੇਦ ਦਿਯਾ ਜਿਹ ਬਾਮ ॥੨੧॥
aulattaa tih jhootthaa kiyaa bhed diyaa jih baam |21|The maid, who told the secret, was declared a liar on the contrary. 21.

ਇਸਕ ਤੰਬੋਲ ਸਹਿਰ ਹੈ ਜਹਾ ॥

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਮਤੀ ਤਿਹ ਦਾਰਾ ॥
sree singaar matee tih daaraa |He had a wife named Shigar Mati.
ਜਾ ਸੀ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁ ਨਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
jaa see gharree na braham su naaraa |1|Brahma had not created any other woman as beautiful as her. 1.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਗ ਜੋਬਨ ਦੇ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਤਾ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੈ ॥

ਦੁਤਿਯ ਰੂਪ ਕੀ ਰਾਸ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਿਯੈ ॥

ਅਧਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਮਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਜਾਨਿਯਤ ॥
adhik prabhaa jal thal meh jaa kee jaaniyat |He was known for his brilliance in water.
ਹੋ ਨਰੀ ਨਾਗਨੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਨ ਵੈਸੀ ਮਾਨਿਯਤ ॥੨॥
ho naree naaganee naar na vaisee maaniyat |2|No woman or nagan was considered like him. 2.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਤਹ ਇਕ ਪੂਤ ਸਰਾਫ ਕੋ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
tah ik poot saraaf ko taa ko roop apaar |There was a seraph's son who was very beautiful.
ਜੋਰਿ ਨੈਨਿ ਨਾਰੀ ਰਹੈ ਜਾਨਿ ਨ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਿਸੰਭਾਰ ॥੩॥

ਰਾਜ ਸੁਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਛਬਿ ਲਹੀ ॥

ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਅਸ ਕਹੀ ॥

ਏਕ ਬਾਰ ਗਹਿ ਯਾਹਿ ਮੰਗਾਊ ॥

ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਰੁਚਿ ਮਾਨ ਮਚਾਊ ॥੪॥
kaam bhog ruch maan machaaoo |4|So let me enjoy it with interest. 4.
ਪਠੈ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਦਈ ਤਹਾ ਇਕ ॥
patthai sahacharee dee tahaa ik |One day the whole thing to a maid
ਤਾਹਿ ਬਾਤ ਸਮੁਝਾਇ ਅਨਿਕ ਨਿਕ ॥
taeh baat samujhaae anik nik |Sent to him after explaining in many ways.
ਅਮਿਤ ਦਰਬ ਦੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
amit darab dai taeh bhulaaee |He forgot (poverty) by giving him a lot of money.
ਜਿਹ ਤਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਕੌ ਲਿਆਈ ॥੫॥
jih tih bhaat kuar kau liaaee |5|(She) like how she brought that Kumar. 5.
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੇ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਲਾਸਾ ॥
bhaat bhaat ke karat bilaasaa |Without fear of any person
