ਜਾਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਹਾਟਕ ਪੁਰੀ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥
jaeh trihaattak puree bakhaanai |He was also called Trihatak Puri
ਦਾਨਵ ਦੇਵ ਜਛ ਸਭ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੧॥
daanav dev jachh sabh jaanai |1|And the giants, gods and yakshas all knew. 1.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮਹਬੂਬ ਮਤੀ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
sree mahaboob matee tih naaree |Mahbub Mati was his wife
ਜਿਹ ਸਮ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਕਹੂੰ ਨ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
jih sam sundar kahoon na kumaaree |There was no other virgin as beautiful as her.
ਦੁਤਿਯ ਨਾਰਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਦੁਹਾਸ ਮਤੀ ਤਿਹ ॥
dutiy naar mriduhaas matee tih |His second wife was Mriduhas Mati
ਨਹਿ ਸਸਿ ਸਮ ਕਹਿਯਤ ਆਨਨ ਜਿਹ ॥੨॥
neh sas sam kahiyat aanan jih |2|Whose face was not equal to the moon. 2.
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਮਹਬੂਬ ਮਤੀ ਤਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਤਿ ॥
sree mahaboob matee tan nrip rat |The king was in love with Mahbub Mati.
ਦੁਤਿਯ ਨਾਰਿ ਪਰ ਨਹਿ ਆਨਨ ਮਤਿ ॥
dutiy naar par neh aanan mat |But he did not face the other woman.
ਅਧਿਕ ਭੋਗ ਤਿਹ ਸਾਥ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥
adhik bhog tih saath kamaayo |(He) indulged a lot with her (Mahbub Mati).
ਏਕ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਾਯੋ ॥੩॥
ek putr taa te upajaayo |3|And begot a son from him. 3.
ਦੁਤਿਯ ਨਾਰਿ ਤੇ ਸਾਥ ਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਾ ॥
dutiy naar te saath na preetaa |(He) was not in love with another woman.
ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਬੀਚ ਲ੍ਯਾਵਤ ਚੀਤਾ ॥
taeh na beech layaavat cheetaa |It did not bring him to Chit.
ਸੁਤਵੰਤੀ ਇਕ ਪੁਨਿ ਪਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ॥
sutavantee ik pun pat preet |(Mahbub Mati) One was a daughter and the other was in love with her husband.
ਅਵਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਲ੍ਯਾਵਤ ਨਹਿ ਚੀਤ ॥੪॥
avar triyeh layaavat neh cheet |4|(That's why) she didn't bring any other woman to Chit. 4.
ਦੁਤਿਯ ਨਾਰਿ ਤਬ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਸਾਈ ॥
dutiy naar tab adhik risaaee |(By this treatment of the king) the second woman then became very angry
ਏਕ ਘਾਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
ek ghaat kee baat banaaee |And made up his mind to do a trick.
ਸਿਸ ਕੀ ਗੁਦਾ ਗੋਖਰੂ ਦਿਯਾ ॥
sis kee gudaa gokharoo diyaa |(He) gave bhakra ('gokhru') in the child's anus.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਦੁਖਿਤ ਤਿਹ ਕਿਯਾ ॥੫॥
taa te adhik dukhit tih kiyaa |5|This made him very sad. 5.
ਬਾਲਕ ਅਧਿਕ ਦੁਖਾਤੁਰ ਭਯੋ ॥
baalak adhik dukhaatur bhayo |The child became very excited with grief
ਰੋਵਤ ਧਾਮ ਮਾਤ ਕੇ ਗਯੋ ॥
rovat dhaam maat ke gayo |And came crying to mother's house.
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਤਾਤ ਮਾਤਾ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
nirakh taat maataa dukh paayo |The mother was very sad to see her son ('Taat').
ਭਲੀ ਭਲੀ ਧਾਯਾਨ ਮੰਗਾਯੋ ॥੬॥
bhalee bhalee dhaayaan mangaayo |6|And good good midwives were called. 6.
ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਲਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
eih charitr baaleh dukh diyo |With this character, the mother (of the child) suffered
ਆਪਨ ਭੇਸ ਧਾਇ ਕੋ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
aapan bhes dhaae ko kiyo |And disguised herself as a midwife.
ਕਿਯਾ ਸਵਤਿ ਕੇ ਧਾਮ ਪਯਾਨਾ ॥
kiyaa savat ke dhaam payaanaa |(Then) went to Sonkan's house.
ਭੇਦ ਨਾਰਿ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੭॥
bhed naar kinahoon na pachhaanaa |7|But no one understood the secret of that woman.7.
ਔਖਧ ਏਕ ਹਾਥ ਮੈ ਲਈ ॥
aauakhadh ek haath mai lee |(He) took a medicine in hand.
ਸਿਸੁ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਮਾਤ ਕੌ ਦਈ ॥
sis kee pratham maat kau dee |First given to the child's mother.
ਬਰੀ ਖਾਤ ਰਾਨੀ ਮਰਿ ਗਈ ॥
baree khaat raanee mar gee |Rani died as soon as she took the pill ('Bari').
ਸ੍ਵਛ ਸੁਘਰਿ ਰਾਨੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਅਈ ॥੮॥
svachh sughar raanee fir aee |8|(That) clean and beautiful queen came home again. 8.
ਨਿਜੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਇ ਭੇਸ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਧਰਿ ॥
nij grih aae bhes nrip triy dhar |He came home and disguised himself as a queen
ਜਾਤਿ ਭਈ ਅਪਨੀ ਸਵਿਤਨ ਘਰ ॥
jaat bhee apanee savitan ghar |And went to her sleeping house.
ਸਿਸੁ ਕੋ ਕਾਢਿ ਗੋਖਰੂ ਡਾਰੋ ॥
sis ko kaadt gokharoo ddaaro |He removed the child's cheek.
ਤਾਹਿ ਸੁਘਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਤ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਰੋ ॥੯॥
taeh sughar tih sut kar paaro |9|Then that child was brought up as a son by that beautiful woman. 9.
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਸੋ ਸਵਤਿਨ ਕਹ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
eih chhal so savatin kah maaraa |With this trick (he) killed the sleeper
ਸਿਸਹੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਸੁਤ ਲਿਯੋ ਉਬਾਰਾ ॥
sisahu jaan sut liyo ubaaraa |And raised the child as a son.
ਨ੍ਰਿਪਹ ਸੰਗ ਪੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਲਿਯ ਪ੍ਯਾਰਾ ॥
nripah sang pun kar liy payaaraa |(She) fell in love with the king again.
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ ਕਿਨੂੰ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੧੦॥
bhed abhed na kinoo bichaaraa |10|But no one could understand this difference. 10.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਤੀਨ ਸੌ ਅਠਹਤਰਿ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੩੭੮॥੬੮੧੮॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਸੁਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਇਕ ਔਰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗਾ ॥
sun raajaa ik aauar prasangaa |O Rajan! Listen to another case,
ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਯੋ ਨਰੇਸੁਰ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
jih bidh bhayo naresur sangaa |The kind that happened to the king.
ਮ੍ਰਿਦੁਲਾ ਦੇ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਰਿ ਭਨਿਜੈ ॥
mridulaa de tih naar bhanijai |Mridula's (dei) was called his wife.
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਪਟਤਰ ਤਿਹ ਦਿਜੈ ॥੧॥
eindr chandr pattatar tih dijai |1|He was compared to Indra and Moon. 1.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਦੇ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੁਤਾ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
sree suprabhaa de taa kee sutaa bakhaaniyai |His daughter's name was called Suprabha's (Dei).
ਮਹਾ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਲੋਕ ਚਤੁਰਦਸ ਜਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
mahaa sundaree lok chaturadas jaaniyai |She was considered the greatest beauty among fourteen people.
ਜੋ ਸਹਚਰਿ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਭਰਿ ਨੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਹੀ ॥
jo sahachar taa kau bhar nain nihaarahee |Whoso sakhi used to see him with good eyes,
ਹੋ ਪਰੀ ਪਦੁਮਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੁ ਵਾਹਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਹੀ ॥੨॥
ho paree padumanee prakrit su vaeh bichaarahee |2|So she used to think of him as a form of a fairy or Padmani. 2.

ਹਾਟਕਪੁਰ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਦਿਸਿ ਦਛਿਨ ॥
haattakapur tin ko dis dachhin |His Hatakpur (town) was on the south side
ਰਾਜ ਕਰਤ ਤੇ ਤਹਾ ਬਿਚਛਨ ॥
raaj karat te tahaa bichachhan |Where that wise (king) ruled.
ਤਿਹ ਪੁਰ ਏਕ ਸਾਹ ਕੋ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ॥
tih pur ek saah ko putr |There was a son of a Shah (living) in that city.
ਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਧਨਾ ਠਟਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ॥੩॥
jan kar bidhanaa tthattaa charitr |3|(It was so beautiful) as if the artist had created a fake character. 3.
ਬ੍ਰਯਾਘ੍ਰ ਕੇਤੁ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮ ਕਹਿਜੈ ॥
brayaaghr ket tih naam kahijai |His name was Byaghra Ketu.
ਛਤ੍ਰ ਜਾਤਿ ਰਘੁਬੰਸ ਭਨਿਜੈ ॥
chhatr jaat raghubans bhanijai |He was considered the umbrella of the Raghuban caste.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਜਾਨੁ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਅਨੰਗਾ ॥
pragatt jaan avataar anangaa |That Shah's son had such a (beautiful) body,
ਐਸੋ ਸਾਹ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਅੰਗਾ ॥੪॥
aaiso saah putr ko angaa |4|It is as if the incarnation of Kama Dev has appeared. 4.
ਲਾਗੀ ਲਗਨ ਤਵਨ ਪਰ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
laagee lagan tavan par baalaa |(That) Raj Kumari's passion was attached to him.
ਸਖੀ ਪਠੀ ਇਕ ਤਹਾ ਰਿਸਾਲਾ ॥
sakhee patthee ik tahaa risaalaa |He sent a wise sage there.
ਸੋ ਚਲਿ ਗਈ ਕੁਅਰ ਕੇ ਧਾਮਾ ॥
so chal gee kuar ke dhaamaa |She went to Shah's son's house
ਜਿਮਿ ਤਿਮਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਬੋਧ੍ਰਯੋ ਬਾਮਾ ॥੫॥
jim tim taeh prabodhrayo baamaa |5|(And that) woman explained to him how. 5.
ਜਾਤ ਭਈ ਤਾ ਕਹ ਲੈ ਤਹਾ ॥
jaat bhee taa kah lai tahaa |took her there,
ਮਾਰਗ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਬਿਲੋਕਤ ਜਹਾ ॥
maarag kuar bilokat jahaa |Where Raj Kumari was looking his way.
ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਗਰੇ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥
nirakhat nain gare lapattaaee |As soon as he saw (him) with his eyes, he hugged him
ਸੇਜਾਸਨ ਪਰ ਲਿਯੋ ਚੜਾਈ ॥੬॥
sejaasan par liyo charraaee |6|And climbed on the seat of Sage. 6.
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰੀ ਤਵਨ ਸੌ ਕ੍ਰੀੜਾ ॥
bahu bidh karee tavan sau kreerraa |Played with him very well
ਕਾਮਨਿ ਕਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਪੀੜਾ ॥
kaaman kaam nivaaree peerraa |And Raj Kumari got rid of her grief.
ਨਿਸੁ ਦਿਨ ਧਾਮ ਬਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਰਾਖਾ ॥
nis din dhaam baam tih raakhaa |Raj Kumari kept him at home day and night
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਤਨ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਭਾਖਾ ॥੭॥
maat pitaa tan bhed na bhaakhaa |7|And did not tell any secret even to parents.7.
ਤਬ ਲੌ ਬ੍ਯਾਹਿ ਦਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਤਾਤੈ ॥
tab lau bayaeh dayo tih taatai |By then the father married her.
ਭੂਲਿ ਗਈ ਵਾ ਕੌ ਵੈ ਬਾਤੈ ॥
bhool gee vaa kau vai baatai |He forgot all those things.
