ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਬਚਨ ਭ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੁਨਿ ਧਾਏ ॥
nrip ko bachan bhrit sun dhaae |Hearing the king's permission, the servants ran away
ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੀ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਢਿਗ ਆਏ ॥
mantree kee duhitaa dtig aae |Immediately getting Raja’s order, the attendants came to the daughter of the minister.
ਕੌਨ ਦੇਸ ਏਸ੍ਵਰ ਤੁਹਿ ਜਾਯੋ ॥
kauan des esvar tuhi jaayo |(He came and said-) Which country's king are you son of?
ਚਲੋ ਰਾਵ ਜੂ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥੧੭॥
chalo raav joo bol patthaayo |17|‘What country have you come and whose son are you? Come our Raja has called you.’(17)

ਕੌਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਤੈ ਕ੍ਯੋ ਆਯੋ ਇਹ ਦੇਸ ॥
kauan nripat ko putr tai kayo aayo ih des |‘You are the son of which Raja and why have you come here?
ਕ੍ਯੋ ਮੁਸਕੀ ਘੋਰਾ ਚਰਿਯੋ ਧਰਿਯੋ ਅਸਿਤ ਕ੍ਯੋ ਭੇਸ ॥੧੮॥
kayo musakee ghoraa chariyo dhariyo asit kayo bhes |18|‘Why are you riding on such a grand horse and why are you dressed in black?’(18)

ਨ ਹੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਨ ਹੈ ਦੇਸਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਈ ॥
n hai nripat ko putr na hai desan ko raaee |‘Neither I am the son of a Raja, nor I am the ruler.
ਤਵ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੀ ਸੁਤਾ ਲਖਨ ਕੌਤਕ ਕੌ ਆਈ ॥
tav mantree kee sutaa lakhan kauatak kau aaee |I have come to see the daughter of your minister.
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
saasatr simritan maeh sadaa sravanan sun paayo |‘In the Shastras and Simritis, basic truths are narrated,
ਤਤੁ ਲਖਨ ਕੇ ਹੇਤ ਮੋਰ ਹਿਯਰਾ ਉਮਗਾਯੋ ॥
tat lakhan ke het mor hiyaraa umagaayo |‘I have come to understand the gist of those.
ਤਬੈ ਉਚਰਿਹੌ ਬੈਨ ਜਬੈ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਲਹਿਹੋ ॥
tabai ucharihau bain jabai netran so lahiho |‘When I have observed those with my own eyes, I will communicate with you
ਬਿਨੁ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਲਹੇ ਭੇਦ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤੁਮੈ ਨ ਕਹਿਹੋ ॥੧੯॥
bin netran ke lahe bhed nrip tumai na kahiho |19|‘Without seeing them I cannot adjudge.’(l9)

ਕਹਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਭੇਦ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ॥
kahiyo nripat muhi bhed bataavahu |The king said, tell me the secret.
ਰੋਸਨ ਰਾਇ ਨ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਲਜਾਵਹੁ ॥
rosan raae na hridai lajaavahu |Raja said, ‘Reveal the secret to me and don’t hesitate at all.
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਕਹੀ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਮੈ ਰਾਖੋ ॥
tumaree kahee hridai mai raakho |(I) will keep your words in my heart
ਭੇਦ ਔਰ ਤਨ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਭਾਖੋ ॥੨੦॥
bhed aauar tan kachhoo na bhaakho |20|‘Whatever you tell me, I will preserve it in my heart and will not betray.’(20)
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਸੁਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਜੂ ਮੈ ਕਹੋਂ ਕਿਸੂ ਨ ਦੀਜਹੁ ਭੇਦ ॥
sun raajaa joo mai kahon kisoo na deejahu bhed |‘Listen, my Raja, what ever I relate to you, don’t disclose to any body.
ਜੁ ਕਛੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਕਹਤ ਔਰ ਉਚਾਰਤ ਬੇਦ ॥੨੧॥
ju kachh saasatr simrit kahat aauar uchaarat bed |21|‘I will tell you what ever is written in Shastras and Simritis.(21)
ਜਹਾ ਸਾਧ ਕਹ ਚੋਰ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਰਤ ਲੋਗ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥
jahaa saadh kah chor kar maarat log risaae |‘The land where people label saints as thief and kill them,
ਤੁਰਤ ਧਰਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਠੌਰ ਕੀ ਧਸਕਿ ਰਸਾਤਲ ਜਾਇ ॥੨੨॥
turat dharan tih tthauar kee dhasak rasaatal jaae |22|‘That land soon goes down under (devastation).’(22)

ਜੋ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
jo saasatr sinmratan sun paaee |That which has been heard (written) in the Shastras Simritis,
ਸੋ ਕੌਤਕ ਦੇਖਨ ਕਹ ਆਈ ॥
so kauatak dekhan kah aaee |‘The way it is expressed in Shastras and Simritis, I have come to discern that.
ਦੇਖੋ ਕਹਾ ਇਹ ਠਾ ਅਬ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੈ ॥
dekho kahaa ih tthaa ab hvai hai |Let's see what happens at this place
ਫਟਿ ਹੈ ਧਰਨਿ ਕਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਫਟਿ ਜੈ ਹੈ ॥੨੩॥
fatt hai dharan ki naeh fatt jai hai |23|‘Now we will see whether the earth goes down or not.(23)
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਜੁ ਕਛੁ ਕਥਾ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਸੁਨੀ ਸੁ ਕਛੁ ਕਹੀ ਤੁਯ ਦੇਵ ॥
ju kachh kathaa sravanan sunee su kachh kahee tuy dev |‘Whatever narration I have heard, I have related to you.
ਅਪਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਰਾਖਿਯੋ ਕਿਸੂ ਨ ਦੀਜਹੁ ਭੇਵ ॥੨੪॥
apane chit mai raakhiyo kisoo na deejahu bhev |24|‘Now you keep this in your heart and please never divulge.’(24)
ਸੁਨਤ ਬਚਨ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਤਿਹ ਲੀਨ ॥
sunat bachan taa ke nripat nikatt bol tih leen |Listening to the talk he called him near him,
ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਸਾਹ ਕੋ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਲਖਿ ਤੁਰਤ ਬਿਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨ ॥੨੫॥
sayaam saah ko putr lakh turat bidaa kar deen |25|And, immediately recognising, he bade to release the son of Siam.(25)
ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਦਈ ਵਜੀਰ ਕੀ ਹੈ ਗੈ ਦਏ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
duhitaa dee vajeer kee hai gai de anek |Along with the daughter of the minister, he gave him many elephants and horses.
ਪਤਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਛਲਿ ਕੈ ਤੁਰਤ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਬਾਕਯੋ ਏਕ ॥੨੬॥
pat keeno chhal kai turat baar na baakayo ek |26|Through an Chritar, that damsel made him as her husband, and did not let him any harm.(26)

ਝੂਠਾ ਤੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
jhootthaa te saachaa kar ddaariyo |Proved false to be true.
ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
kinahoon bhed na hridai bichaariyo |The false was turned into truth and no body could detect the reality.
ਸਾਮ ਦੇਸ ਲੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਸਿਧਾਈ ॥
saam des lai taeh sidhaaee |She (Roshni Rai) took (her husband) and went to Sam country
ਤੇਗ ਤਰੇ ਤੇ ਲਯੋ ਬਚਾਈ ॥੨੭॥
teg tare te layo bachaaee |27|Taking him with her, she left for the country of Siam and saved him from the sharp edge of the sword.(27)
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਅਤਿਭੁਤ ਗਤਿ ਬਨਿਤਾਨ ਕੀ ਜਿਹ ਨ ਸਕਤ ਕੋਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
atibhut gat banitaan kee jih na sakat koau paae |The accomplishments of the women are such that no one can acquiesce.
ਭੇਦ ਹਾਥ ਆਵੈ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਟਿਨ ਕਿਯੇ ਉਪਾਇ ॥੨੮॥
bhed haath aavai nahee kottin kiye upaae |28|In spite of numerous endeavours, one cannot understand their enigma.(28)(I)

ਦਛਿਨ ਦੇਸ ਬਿਚਛਨ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
dachhin des bichachhan naaree |The women of the South are unique.
ਜੋਗੀ ਗਏ ਭਏ ਘਰ ਬਾਰੀ ॥
jogee ge bhe ghar baaree |Even ascetics are turned into householders in their association.
ਚਤੁਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਾਜ ਤਹ ਭਾਰੋ ॥
chatur singh raaj tah bhaaro |There was a strong king Chatur Singh
ਚੰਦ੍ਰਬੰਸ ਮੈ ਰਹੈ ਉਜਿਯਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
chandrabans mai rahai ujiyaaro |1|There used to be a ruler of Chandra Bansi Clan, named Chatter Singh.(1)
ਹੈ ਗੈ ਰਥ ਪੈਦਲ ਬਹੁ ਵਾ ਕੇ ॥
hai gai rath paidal bahu vaa ke |He had many horses, elephants, chariots and foot (soldiers).
ਔਰ ਭੂਪ ਕੋਊ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥
aauar bhoop koaoo tul na taa ke |He had numerous elephants, horses and foot soldiers, and no other ruler was of his standing.
ਰੂਪ ਕਲਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਰ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
roop kalaa taa kee bar naaree |His form was a beautiful woman named Kala.
ਜਨੁ ਰਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਤੇ ਭਈ ਕੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
jan rat pat te bhee kumaaree |2|Roop Kala was his wife, who appeared to be born of the Cupid’s wedlock.(2)
ਅਧਿਕ ਰਾਵ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਬਸਿ ਰਹੈ ॥
adhik raav taa ke bas rahai |The king mostly lived in his residence.
ਜੋ ਵਹੁ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਕਹੈ ॥
jo vahu mukh te kahai su kahai |A number of Rajas were under his suzerainty.
ਰੂਪ ਮਤੀ ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨ ਡਰੈ ॥
roop matee tih traas na ddarai |Roop Mati was not afraid of him.
ਜੋ ਚਿਤ ਭਾਵੇ ਸੋਈ ਕਰੈ ॥੩॥
jo chit bhaave soee karai |3|But Roop Kala never feared him and she acted whatever the way she willed.(3)

ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਬੈਠੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਮੈ ਹੋਡ ਪਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
eik din baitthe triyan mai hodd paree tin maeh |One day the women were gathered, and a bet was eventuated,
ਪਿਯ ਦੇਖਤ ਕੋਊ ਜਾਰ ਸੋ ਭੋਗ ਸਕਤ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
piy dekhat koaoo jaar so bhog sakat kar naeh |4|Who could make love with her paramour while husband was watching.(4)
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਰਾਨੀ ਬਾਤ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਰਾਖੀ ॥
raanee baat chit mai raakhee |Rani kept this matter in mind.
ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਭਾਖੀ ॥
mukh te kachhoo na tih tthaa bhaakhee |The Rani kept this indication in her heart; she did not raise her voice.
ਏਕ ਦੋਇ ਜਬ ਮਾਸ ਬਿਤਾਯੋ ॥
ek doe jab maas bitaayo |When a couple of months passed
ਆਨ ਰਾਵ ਸੋ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥੫॥
aan raav so bachan sunaayo |5|When a couple of months had passed, she came and told the Raja, (5)
ਸੁਨੁ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਮੈ ਸਿਵ ਪੂਜਨ ਗਈ ॥
sun nrip mai siv poojan gee |O Rajan! Listen, I went to worship Lord Shiva.
ਬਾਨੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਤਹਾ ਤੈ ਭਈ ॥
baanee mohi tahaa tai bhee |‘Listen my Raja, I had gone to prey for Shiva and I was endowed with celestial utterance.
ਏਕ ਬਾਤ ਐਸੀ ਬਹਿ ਜੈਹੈ ॥
ek baat aaisee beh jaihai |One thing happened that (coming here) who will sit
ਸਭ ਕੋ ਭੋਗ ਕਰਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੈ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
sabh ko bhog karat drisattai hai |6|‘It said, “Who-so-ever comes here, every body, will indulge with him in sex-play.”(6)

ਜੁ ਕਛੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਿਵਜੂ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਕਛੁ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤੁਹਿ ਦੇਵ ॥
ju kachh mohi sivajoo kahiyo su kachh kahiyo tuhi dev |‘Oh, my Raja, whatever Shiva told me, I have communicated to you.
