ਰਿਪੁ ਕਰਯੋ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਬਿਹੀਨ ॥
rip karayo sasatr asatran biheen |

Lachman deprived the enemy of armor and weapons

ਬਹੁ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥
bahu sasatr saasatr bidiaa prabeen |

Ultimately Lakshman deprived Atkaaye, the specialist in many sciences of weapons and arms, of his weapons and arms

ਹਯ ਮੁਕਟ ਸੂਤ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਯੋ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
hay mukatt soot bin bhayo gavaar |

The foolish Atkai became without horse, crown and charioteer.

ਕਛੁ ਚਪੇ ਚੋਰ ਜਿਮ ਬਲ ਸੰਭਾਰ ॥੫੧੩॥
kachh chape chor jim bal sanbhaar |513|

He was deprived of his horse, crown and garments and he tried ot conceal himself like a thief mustering his strength.513.

ਰਿਪੁ ਹਣੇ ਬਾਣ ਬਜ੍ਰਵ ਘਾਤ ॥
rip hane baan bajrav ghaat |

(Lachman) shoots arrows like thunderbolts at the enemy

ਸਮ ਚਲੇ ਕਾਲ ਕੀ ਜੁਆਲ ਤਾਤ ॥
sam chale kaal kee juaal taat |

He discharged arrows causing destruction like Indra’s Vajra and they were striking like the advancing fire of death

ਤਬ ਕੁਪਯੋ ਵੀਰ ਅਤਕਾਇ ਐਸ ॥
tab kupayo veer atakaae aais |

Then Atkai Yodha also became angry

ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਲੈ ਕਾਲ ਕੋ ਮੇਘ ਜੈਸ ॥੫੧੪॥
jan pralai kaal ko megh jais |514|

The hero Atkaaye become highly infuriated like the clouds of doomsday.514.

ਇਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਾਗ ਲਪਟੈਂ ਲਬਾਰ ॥
eim karan laag lapattain labaar |

Atakai' thus began to manifest the flames of blasphemy,

ਜਿਮ ਜੁਬਣ ਹੀਣ ਲਪਟਾਇ ਨਾਰ ॥
jim juban heen lapattaae naar |

He began to prattle like a man without the energy of a youth, clinging to a woman without satisfying her,

ਜਿਮ ਦੰਤ ਰਹਤ ਗਹ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਸਸਕ ॥
jim dant rahat gah svaan sasak |

As a dog catches a dog without teeth,

ਜਿਮ ਗਏ ਬੈਸ ਬਲ ਬੀਰਜ ਰਸਕ ॥੫੧੫॥
jim ge bais bal beeraj rasak |515|

Or like a teethless dog on catching a rabbit whom he can do no harm, or like a libertine without the semen.515.

ਜਿਮ ਦਰਬ ਹੀਣ ਕਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਬਪਾਰ ॥
jim darab heen kachh kar bapaar |

As a penniless person does some business or

ਜਣ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਹੀਣ ਰੁਝਯੋ ਜੁਝਾਰ ॥
jan sasatr heen rujhayo jujhaar |

Atkaaye was in such a situation which is experienced by a trader without money or a warriors without weapons.

ਜਿਮ ਰੂਪ ਹੀਣ ਬੇਸਯਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ॥
jim roop heen besayaa prabhaav |

Like the effect of a degenerate whore

ਜਣ ਬਾਜ ਹੀਣ ਰਥ ਕੋ ਚਲਾਵ ॥੫੧੬॥
jan baaj heen rath ko chalaav |516|

He looked like and ugly prostitute or a chariot without horses.516.

ਤਬ ਤਮਕ ਤੇਗ ਲਛਮਣ ਉਦਾਰ ॥
tab tamak teg lachhaman udaar |

Then the generous Lachmana got angry (struck him) with the sword and

ਤਹ ਹਣਯੋ ਸੀਸ ਕਿਨੋ ਦੁਫਾਰ ॥
tah hanayo sees kino dufaar |

Then the benevolent Lakshman stuck his sharp-edged sword and chopped the demon into two halves.

ਤਬ ਗਿਰਯੋ ਬੀਰ ਅਤਿਕਾਇ ਏਕ ॥
tab girayo beer atikaae ek |

Then a warrior (named Atakai) fell.

ਲਖ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੂਰ ਭਜੇ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੫੧੭॥
lakh taeh soor bhaje anek |517|

That warriors named Atkaaye fell in the battlefield and on seeing him (falling) many warriors fled away.517.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਰਾਮਵਤਾਰ ਅਤਕਾਇ ਬਧਹਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੧੪॥

End of the chapter entitled ‘Killing of Atkaaye’ in Ramavtar in BACHITTAR NATAK.

ਅਥ ਮਕਰਾਛ ਜੁਧ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
ath makaraachh judh kathanan |

Now begins the description of the war with Makrachh :

ਪਾਧਰੀ ਛੰਦ ॥
paadharee chhand |

PAADHRI STANZA

ਤਬ ਰੁਕਯੋ ਸੈਨ ਮਕਰਾਛ ਆਨ ॥
tab rukayo sain makaraachh aan |

Then Makrach came and stood (in front of) the army

ਕਹ ਜਾਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਹੀ ਪੈਹੋ ਜਾਨ ॥
kah jaahu raam nahee paiho jaan |

After that Makrachh joined the army and said. “O Ram! You cannot save yourself now

ਜਿਨ ਹਤਯੋ ਤਾਤ ਰਣ ਮੋ ਅਖੰਡ ॥
jin hatayo taat ran mo akhandd |

Who has slain my unbroken father (Khar) in the field,

ਸੋ ਲਰੋ ਆਨ ਮੋ ਸੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ॥੫੧੮॥
so laro aan mo son prachandd |518|

He who has killed my father, that mighty warriors should come forward and wage war with me.”518.

ਇਮ ਸੁਣਿ ਕੁਬੈਣ ਰਾਮਾਵਤਾਰ ॥
eim sun kubain raamaavataar |

Ram Chandra heard (his) words like this

ਗਹਿ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਕੋਪਯੋ ਜੁਝਾਰ ॥
geh sasatr asatr kopayo jujhaar |

Ram heard these crooked words and in great rage he held his weapons and arms in his hands

ਬਹੁ ਤਾਣ ਬਾਣ ਤਿਹ ਹਣੇ ਅੰਗ ॥
bahu taan baan tih hane ang |

Killed by drawing many arrows in his body

ਮਕਰਾਛ ਮਾਰਿ ਡਾਰਯੋ ਨਿਸੰਗ ॥੫੧੯॥
makaraachh maar ddaarayo nisang |519|

He pulled (his bow) discharged his arrows, and fearlessly killed Makrachh.519.

ਜਬ ਹਤੇ ਬੀਰ ਅਰ ਹਣੀ ਸੈਨ ॥
jab hate beer ar hanee sain |

When (Makrach) the hero was killed and the army was also killed,

ਤਬ ਭਜੌ ਸੂਰ ਹੁਐ ਕਰ ਨਿਚੈਨ ॥
tab bhajau soor huaai kar nichain |

When this hero and his army were killed, then all the warriors, becoming weaponsless, ran away (from the filed)

ਤਬ ਕੁੰਭ ਔਰ ਅਨਕੁੰਭ ਆਨ ॥
tab kunbh aauar anakunbh aan |

Then 'Kumbha' and 'Ankumbha' (the two giants named) came

ਦਲ ਰੁਕਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਤਯਾਗ ਕਾਨ ॥੫੨੦॥
dal rukayo raam ko tayaag kaan |520|

After that Kumbh and Ankumbh came forward and obstructed the army of Ram.520.

ਇਤਿ ਮਰਾਛ ਬਧਹ ॥
eit maraachh badhah |

Here Makrachch Badh ends.

ਅਜਬਾ ਛੰਦ ॥
ajabaa chhand |

AJBA STANZA

ਤ੍ਰਪੇ ਤਾਜੀ ॥
trape taajee |

The horses started jumping

ਗਜੇ ਗਾਜੀ ॥
gaje gaajee |

Ghazis began to roar.

ਸਜੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰੰ ॥
saje sasatran |

(who are) adorned with armour

ਕਛੇ ਅਸਤ੍ਰੰ ॥੫੨੧॥
kachhe asatran |521|

The horses jumped, the warriors thundered and began to strike blows, being bedecked with weapons and arms.521.

ਤੁਟੇ ਤ੍ਰਾਣੰ ॥
tutte traanan |

armor is breaking,

ਛੁਟੇ ਬਾਣੰ ॥
chhutte baanan |

Arrows are running.

ਰੁਪੇ ਬੀਰੰ ॥
rupe beeran |

The warriors have (feet) chariots

ਬੁਠੇ ਤੀਰੰ ॥੫੨੨॥
butthe teeran |522|

The bows broke, the arrows were discharged, the warriors became firm and the shafts were showered.522.

ਘੁਮੇ ਘਾਯੰ ॥
ghume ghaayan |

The ghosts roam,

ਜੁਮੇ ਚਾਯੰ ॥
jume chaayan |

(who) walk full of joy.

ਰਜੇ ਰੋਸੰ ॥
raje rosan |

(Many) are full of wrath.
