ਬੀਰਮ ਤੀਰ ਵਜੀਰ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
beeram teer vajeer patthaayo |The king sent a vizier to Biram Dev.
ਸਾਹ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
saah kahiyo tih taeh sunaayo |(What) the king had said, (the same) the vizier narrated to him.
ਹਮਰੇ ਦੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਤੁਮ ਆਵਹੁ ॥
hamare deen pratham tum aavahu |First you enter our religion,
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਦਿਲਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੁਤਾ ਬਿਯਾਵਹੁ ॥੧੫॥
bahur dilis kee sutaa biyaavahu |15|Then marry the daughter of the king of Delhi. 15.
ਬੀਰਮ ਦੇਵ ਕਹਾ ਨਹਿ ਮਾਨਾ ॥
beeram dev kahaa neh maanaa |Biram Dev did not accept his request
ਕਰਿਯੋ ਆਪਨੇ ਦੇਸ ਪਯਾਨਾ ॥
kariyo aapane des payaanaa |And went to his country.
ਪ੍ਰਾਤੇ ਖਬਰਿ ਦਿਲਿਸ ਜਬ ਪਾਈ ॥
praate khabar dilis jab paaee |In the morning when the king heard the news,
ਅਮਿਤਿ ਸੈਨ ਅਰਿ ਗਹਨ ਪਠਾਈ ॥੧੬॥
amit sain ar gahan patthaaee |16|So a large army was sent to capture the enemy. 16.
ਬੀਰਮ ਦੇਵ ਖਬਰਿ ਜਬ ਪਾਈ ॥
beeram dev khabar jab paaee |When Biram Dev found this out,
ਪਲਟ ਕਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਥ ਲਰਾਈ ॥
palatt karee tin saath laraaee |So he returned and fought with them.
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਭਟ ਘਾਏ ॥
bhaat bhaat bhaaree bhatt ghaae |(He) killed many great warriors
ਤਹਾ ਨ ਟਿਕੇ ਤਵਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੧੭॥
tahaa na ttike tavan ke paae |17|And their feet could not stand there. 17.
ਕਾਧਲ ਵਤ ਰਾਜਾ ਥੋ ਜਹਾ ॥
kaadhal vat raajaa tho jahaa |Where a king named Kandhalvat ruled,
ਬੀਰਮ ਦੇਵ ਜਾਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਹਾ ॥
beeram dev jaat bhayo tahaa |Beeram Dev went there.
ਕਾਧਲ ਦੇ ਆਗੇ ਜਹਾ ਰਾਨੀ ॥
kaadhal de aage jahaa raanee |There was a queen named Kandhal (Dei) of the next king
ਰੂਪਵਾਨ ਗੁਨਵਾਨ ਸ੍ਯਾਨੀ ॥੧੮॥
roopavaan gunavaan sayaanee |18|Who was very handsome, virtuous and wise. 18.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਕਾਧਲ ਦੇ ਰਾਨੀ ਤਿਹ ਰੂਪ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
kaadhal de raanee tih roop nihaar kai |Kandhal Dei Rani seeing his form
ਗਿਰੀ ਧਰਨਿ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰ ਹਿਯੇ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
giree dharan ke bheetar hiye bichaar kai |She fell on the ground and started thinking in her mind
ਐਸੋ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਕੁਅਰ ਜੁ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਈਯੈ ॥
aaiso ik pal kuar ju bhettan paaeeyai |That if such a Raj Kumar meets even for a moment
ਹੋ ਜਨਮ ਪਚਾਸਿਕ ਲੌ ਸਖੀ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਯੈ ॥੧੯॥
ho janam pachaasik lau sakhee bal bal jaaeeyai |19|So O Sakhi! Let us stay away from him for fifty births. 19.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਜਾਇ ਸਖੀ ਬੀਰਮ ਦੇ ਪਾਸਾ ॥
jaae sakhee beeram de paasaa |(She) went to Sakhi Biram Dev
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਥ ਕਰੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਾ ॥
eih bidh saath karee aradaasaa |And he begged thus
ਕੈ ਤੁਮ ਕਾਧਲ ਦੇ ਕੋ ਭਜੋ ॥
kai tum kaadhal de ko bhajo |That either you combine with Kandhal Dei (Queen).
ਕੈ ਇਹ ਦੇਸ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਤਜੋ ॥੨੦॥
kai ih des hamaaro tajo |20|Or leave our country. 20.
ਪਾਛੇ ਲਗੀ ਫੌਜ ਤਿਨ ਮਾਨੀ ॥
paachhe lagee fauaj tin maanee |He thought that there is an army behind (me).
ਦੁਤਿਯ ਰਹਨ ਕੀ ਠੌਰ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
dutiy rahan kee tthauar na jaanee |And there is no other place to stay.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਦੇਸ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਨਹਿ ਤਜੋ ॥
taa ko des tarun neh tajo |(So Biram Dev sent through Sakhi saying that I) will not leave that woman's country
ਕਾਧਲ ਦੇ ਰਾਨੀ ਕਹ ਭਜੋ ॥੨੧॥
kaadhal de raanee kah bhajo |21|And I will combine with Kandhal Dei Rani. 21.
ਰਾਨੀ ਰਮੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਭੋਗਾ ॥
raanee ramee mitr ke bhogaa |The queen joined her friend
ਚਿਤ ਕੇ ਦਏ ਤ੍ਯਾਗਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਗਾ ॥
chit ke de tayaag sabh sogaa |And removed all the sorrows of Chit.
ਤਬ ਲਗਿ ਲਿਖੋ ਸਾਹ ਕੋ ਆਯੋ ॥
tab lag likho saah ko aayo |By then the written (permit) of the king came
ਬਾਚਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਭਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥੨੨॥
baach mantriyan bhaakh sunaayo |22|Which the ministers read and narrated. 22.
ਲਿਖਿ ਸੁ ਲਿਖਾ ਮਹਿ ਯਹੈ ਪਠਾਈ ॥
likh su likhaa meh yahai patthaaee |The same was written in that permit and sent
ਔਰ ਬਾਤ ਦੂਜੀ ਨ ਜਨਾਈ ॥
aauar baat doojee na janaaee |And did not say anything else.
ਕੈ ਬੀਰਮ ਕਹ ਬਾਧਿ ਪਠਾਵਹੁ ॥
kai beeram kah baadh patthaavahu |Either bind Biram Dev and send him (to me),
ਕੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੰਗ ਜੁਧ ਮਚਾਵਹੁ ॥੨੩॥
kai mere sang judh machaavahu |23|Or make war with me. 23.
ਰਾਨੀ ਬਾਧਿ ਨ ਬੀਰਮ ਦਯੋ ॥
raanee baadh na beeram dayo |The queen did not send Biram Dev tied up
ਪਹਿਰ ਕੌਚ ਦੁੰਦਭੀ ਬਜਯੋ ॥
pahir kauach dundabhee bajayo |And put on armor and sounded the bell.
ਨਿਰਭੈ ਚਲੀ ਜੁਧ ਕੇ ਕਾਜਾ ॥
nirabhai chalee judh ke kaajaa |They are horses, elephants, chariots, arrows etc
ਹੈ ਗੈ ਰਥ ਸਾਜਤ ਸਰ ਸਾਜਾ ॥੨੪॥
hai gai rath saajat sar saajaa |24|Having put on armor, she went fearlessly for war. 24.
ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥
bhujang prayaat chhand |Bhujang Prayat Verse:
ਬਜ੍ਯੋ ਰਾਗ ਮਾਰੂ ਮੰਡੇ ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ ॥
bajayo raag maaroo mandde chhatradhaaree |The Maru Raga sounded and the chhatradharis (warriors in battle) stood firm.
ਬਹੈ ਤੀਰ ਤਰਵਾਰ ਕਾਤੀ ਕਟਾਰੀ ॥
bahai teer taravaar kaatee kattaaree |Arrows, swords, spears and spears started flying.
ਕਹੂੰ ਕੇਤੁ ਫਾਟੇ ਗਿਰੇ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਟੂਟੇ ॥
kahoon ket faatte gire chhatr ttootte |Somewhere flags were torn and some umbrellas were broken and fallen.
ਕਹੂੰ ਮਤ ਦੰਤੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਾਜ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੨੫॥
kahoon mat dantee firai baaj chhoottai |25|Somewhere drunk elephants and horses roamed freely. 25.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬਾਜ ਜੂਝੇ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ਮਤੰਗੈ ॥
kahoon baaj joojhe pare hai matangai |Some horses and some elephants were lying dead.
ਕਹੂੰ ਨਾਗ ਮਾਰੇ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ਉਤੰਗੈ ॥
kahoon naag maare biraajai utangai |Somewhere high up big elephants were lying dead.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬੀਰ ਡਾਰੇ ਪਰੇ ਬਰਮ ਫਾਟੇ ॥
kahoon beer ddaare pare baram faatte |Somewhere the soldiers were lying with torn armor
ਕਹੂੰ ਖੇਤ ਖਾਡੇ ਲਸੈ ਚਰਮ ਕਾਟੇ ॥੨੬॥
kahoon khet khaadde lasai charam kaatte |26|And somewhere the cut shields and swords (worn) were shining. 26.
ਗਿਰੇ ਬੀਰ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਾ ਲੌ ਗਨਾਊ ॥
gire beer maare kaa lau ganaaoo |(I) count the number of heroes who have fallen after being killed.
ਕਹੌ ਜੋ ਸਭੈ ਏਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੈ ਬਨਾਊ ॥
kahau jo sabhai ek granthai banaaoo |If I talk about all of them, let's make only one book.
ਜਥਾ ਸਕਤਿ ਕੈ ਅਲਪ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥
jathaa sakat kai alap taa te uchaaro |That's why yatha shakti are few words.
ਸੁਨੋ ਕਾਨ ਦੈ ਕੈ ਸਭੇ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥੨੭॥
suno kaan dai kai sabhe hee piaaro |27|Hey dear! Listen with all ears. 27.
ਇਤੈ ਖਾਨ ਢੂਕੇ ਉਤੈ ਰਾਜ ਨੀਕੇ ॥
eitai khaan dtooke utai raaj neeke |From here the Khans were descended and from there the good kings (were ascended).
ਹਠੀ ਰੋਸ ਬਾਢੇ ਸੁ ਗਾਢੇ ਅਨੀਕੇ ॥
hatthee ros baadte su gaadte aneeke |The stubborn warriors of the strong army had increased their anger.
ਲਰੇ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਏਕੈ ਨ ਭਾਜ੍ਯੋ ॥
lare kop kai kai su ekai na bhaajayo |(He) fought with great fury and not a single one fled.
ਘਰੀ ਚਾਰਿ ਲੌ ਸਾਰ ਸੌ ਸਾਰ ਬਾਜ੍ਯੋ ॥੨੮॥
gharee chaar lau saar sau saar baajayo |28|Iron clashed with iron for four hours. 28.
ਤਹਾ ਸੰਖ ਭੇਰੀ ਘਨੇ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਜੇ ॥
tahaa sankh bheree ghane naad baaje |There Sankh, Bheri, Mridang, Muchang, Upang etc
ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗੈ ਮੁਚੰਗੈ ਉਪੰਗੈ ਬਿਰਾਜੇ ॥
mridangai muchangai upangai biraaje |A lot of bells started ringing.
ਕਹੂੰ ਨਾਇ ਨਾਫੀਰਿਯੈਂ ਔ ਨਗਾਰੇ ॥
kahoon naae naafeeriyain aau nagaare |Somewhere shenai, nafiri and nagare were playing
ਕਹੂੰ ਝਾਝ ਬੀਨਾ ਬਜੈ ਘੰਟ ਭਾਰੇ ॥੨੯॥
kahoon jhaajh beenaa bajai ghantt bhaare |29|And somewhere cymbals, bells, heavy bells etc. were ringing. 29.
ਕਹੂੰ ਟੂਕ ਟੂਕ ਹੈ ਗਿਰੈ ਹੈ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ॥
kahoon ttook ttook hai girai hai sipaahee |Somewhere the soldiers were lying in pieces.
ਮਰੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਮਿ ਕੇ ਕਾਜਹੂੰ ਕੋ ਨਿਬਾਹੀ ॥
mare svaam ke kaajahoon ko nibaahee |Died while doing the Lord's work.
ਤਹਾ ਕੌਚ ਧਾਰੇ ਚੜੇ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
tahaa kauach dhaare charre chhatr dhaaree |Armored and umbrella-clad warriors had climbed there.
ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਲ ਮਾਨੋ ਮਦਾਰੈ ਮਦਾਰੀ ॥੩੦॥
milai mel maano madaarai madaaree |30|(It seems like this) as if Madari has received Madari. 30.
ਕਿਤੇ ਭੂਮਿ ਲੋਟੈ ਸੁ ਹਾਥੈ ਉਚਾਏ ॥
kite bhoom lottai su haathai uchaae |Somewhere they used to lie on the ground with folded hands,
ਡਰੈ ਸੇਖ ਜੈਸੇ ਸਮਾਈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
ddarai sekh jaise samaaee samaae |As sheikhs (fakirs) were engrossed in music and feared (violation of religion).
ਜੁਝੈ ਜ੍ਵਾਨ ਜੋਧਾ ਜਗੇ ਜੋਰ ਜੰਗੈ ॥
jujhai jvaan jodhaa jage jor jangai |Young warriors are fighting in a fierce war.
ਮਨੋ ਪਾਨ ਕੈ ਭੰਗ ਸੋਏ ਮਲੰਗੈ ॥੩੧॥
mano paan kai bhang soe malangai |31|(It seemed) as if Malang was sleeping after drinking bhang. 31.
ਬਹੈ ਆਨ ਐਸੇ ਬਚੈ ਬੀਰ ਕੌਨੈ ॥
bahai aan aaise bachai beer kauanai |Which warrior could survive the arrows moving like this.
