ਗੋਪਿਨ ਬਾਚ ਊਧਵ ਸੋ ॥
gopin baach aoodhav so |Speech of the gopis addressed to Udhava:
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥
savaiyaa |SWAYYA
ਮਿਲ ਕੈ ਤਿਨ ਊਧਵ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਸੁਨ ਊਧਵ ਯੌ ਕਹੀਯੋ ॥
mil kai tin aoodhav sang kahiyo har so sun aoodhav yau kaheeyo |They (gopis) together said to Udhav, O Udhav! Listen, say thus to Sri Krishna.
ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਊਧਵ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਜਿਤੋ ਪਠਿਯੋ ਤਿਤਨੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਗਹੀਯੋ ॥
keh kai kar aoodhav gayaan jito patthiyo titano sabh hee gaheeyo |All of them collectively said to Udhava, “O Udhava! you may talk to Krishna like this that all the words of wisdom that he had sent through you, have been imbibed by us
ਸਭ ਹੀ ਇਨ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਪੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਿਤ ਆਖਨ ਸੋ ਚਹੀਯੋ ॥
sabh hee in gvaaran pai kab sayaam kahiyo hit aakhan so chaheeyo |Poet Shyam says, the love of all these gopis has to be said to him.
ਇਨ ਕੋ ਤੁਮ ਤਿਆਗ ਗਏ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਹਮਰੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਲੇਤ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੀਯੋ ॥੯੨੯॥
ein ko tum tiaag ge mathuraa hamaree sudh let sadaa raheeyo |929|“O Udhava! taking into consideration our welfare, tell it definitely to Krishna that forsaking us he had gone to Matura, but there also he should keep in touch with us.”929.
ਜਬ ਊਧਵ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਊਧਵ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
jab aoodhav so ih bhaat kahiyo tab aoodhav ko man prem bhariyo hai |When gopis said all this to Udhava, he was then also filled with love
ਅਉਰ ਗਈ ਸੁਧਿ ਭੂਲ ਸਭੈ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਹੁਤੋ ਸੁ ਟਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
aaur gee sudh bhool sabhai man te sabh gayaan huto su ttariyo hai |He lost his consciousness and the brilliance of wisdom ended in his mind
ਸੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਕੇ ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਢਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
so mil kai sang gvaaran ke at preet kee baat ke sang dtariyo hai |He got along with the gopis and got used to the talk of extreme love. (seemingly)
ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਕੇ ਡਾਰ ਮਨੋ ਕਪਰੇ ਹਿਤ ਕੀ ਸਰਿਤਾ ਹਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਕੂਦ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੯੩੦॥
gayaan ke ddaar mano kapare hit kee saritaa hit meh kood pariyo hai |930|He also began to talk about love in the company of gopis and it appeared that he had put off the clothes of wisdom and had plunged into the stream of love.930.
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਆਰਨਿ ਕੇ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਕੋ ਹਿਤ ਚੀਨੋ ॥
yau keh sang guaaran ke jab hee sabh gvaaran ko hit cheeno |When Udhava recognised the love of gopis, he also began to converse with the gopis about love
ਊਧਵ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਦਯੋ ਤਜਿ ਕੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਜਬ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੋ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
aoodhav gayaan dayo taj kai man mai jab prem ko sangrah keeno |Udhava gathered love in his mind and abandoned his wisdom
ਹੋਇ ਗਯੋ ਤਨਮੈ ਹਿਤ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਹੀਨੋ ॥
hoe gayo tanamai hit so ih bhaat kahiyo su kariyo brij heeno |His mind was fille with love to such an extent that he also said that on forsaking Braja, Krishna had made Braja very poor
ਤ੍ਯਾਗਿ ਗਏ ਤੁਮ ਕੋ ਮਥਰਾ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਕਾਮ ਸਖੀ ਘਟ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੯੩੧॥
tayaag ge tum ko matharaa tih te har kaam sakhee ghatt keeno |931|But O friend! the day when Krishna went to Mathura, his sexual instinct has deteriorated.931.
ਊਧਵ ਬਾਚ ਗੋਪਿਨ ਸੋ ॥
aoodhav baach gopin so |Speech of Udhava addressed to the gopis:
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥
savaiyaa |SWAYYA
ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਮਥਰਾ ਮੈ ਸਖੀ ਹਰਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਲਯੈਬੇ ਕੋ ਦੂਤ ਪਠੈ ਹੋਂ ॥
jaae kai hau matharaa mai sakhee har te tum layaibe ko doot patthai hon |“O young damsels! on reaching Matura, I shall cause to send an envoy through Krishna to take you to Mathura
ਬੀਤਤ ਜੋ ਤੁਮ ਪੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਕੇ ਪਾਸ ਕਹੈ ਹੋਂ ॥
beetat jo tum pai birathaa sabh hee jaduraae ke paas kahai hon |Whatever difficulties experiencing, I shall relate them to Krishna
ਕੈ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਉਹ ਪੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾ ਰਿਝ ਹੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਾ ਰਿਝਵੈ ਹੋਂ ॥
kai tumaree binatee uh pai bidh jaa rijh hai bidh taa rijhavai hon |“I shall try to please Krishna in any possible way after conveying your request
ਪਾਇਨ ਪੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੌ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਭੀਤਰ ਫੇਰਿ ਲਿਯੈ ਹੋਂ ॥੯੩੨॥
paaein pai kab sayaam kahai har kau brij bheetar fer liyai hon |932|I shall bring him again to Braja even falling at his feet.”932.
ਯੌ ਜਬ ਊਧਵ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੀ ਉਠਿ ਪਾਇਨ ਲਾਗਤ ਭੀ ਤਬ ਸੋਊ ॥
yau jab aoodhav baat kahee utth paaein laagat bhee tab soaoo |When Udhava said these words, all the gopis arose to touch his feet
ਦੂਖ ਘਟਿਓ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੋਊ ॥
dookh ghattio tin ke man te at hee man bheetar aanand hoaoo |The sorrow of their mind was decreased and their inner happiness increased
ਕੈ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਊਧਵ ਕੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਯਾ ਉਚਰੋਊ ॥
kai binatee sang aoodhav ke kab sayaam kahai bidh yaa ucharoaoo |Poet Shyam says, Udhava begged further (those gopis) said thus,
ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਸੋ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਯੌ ਕਹੀਯੋ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਯਾਗਤ ਕੋਊ ॥੯੩੩॥
sayaam so jaae kai yau kaheeyo kar kai kahiyo preet na tayaagat koaoo |933|Imploring Udhava, they said, “O Udhava! when you go there you may tell Krishna that after falling in love, no one forsakes it.933.
ਕੁੰਜ ਗਲੀਨ ਮੈ ਖੇਲਤ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਕੋ ਹਰਿਓ ॥
kunj galeen mai khelat hee sabh hee man gvaaran ko hario |You have won the hearts of all the gopis while playing in the Kunj streets.
ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਹਿਤ ਲੋਗਨ ਹਾਸ ਸਹਿਯੋ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਹਿਤ ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਲਰਿਓ ॥
jin ke hit logan haas sahiyo jin ke hit satran so lario |“O Krishna, while playing in alcoves, you allured the mind of all gopis, for which you endured the ridicule of the people and for whom you fought with the enemies.”
ਸੰਗਿ ਊਧਵ ਕੇ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਇਮ ਉਚਰਿਓ ॥
sang aoodhav ke kab sayaam kahai binatee kar kai im uchario |Poet Shyam says, (the gopis) beseechingly chanted thus with Udhav.
ਹਮ ਤ੍ਯਾਗਿ ਗਏ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਮੈ ਮਥਰਾ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਕਾਮ ਬੁਰੋ ਕਰਿਓ ॥੯੩੪॥
ham tayaag ge brij mai matharaa tih te tum kaam buro kario |934|The gopis say this, while imploring Udhava, “O Krishna! on abandoning us, you went away to Matura, this was your very bad act.934.
ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਬਾਸਨ ਤ੍ਯਾਗਿ ਗਏ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਪੁਰ ਬਾਸਿਨ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਭੀਤਰ ਪਾਗਿਓ ॥
brij baasan tayaag ge mathuraa pur baasin ke ras bheetar paagio |“Forsaking the residents of Braja, you went away and absorbed yourself in the love of the residents of Matura
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਜਿਤੋ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਥੋ ਉਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਚੇ ਇਨ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਭਾਗਿਓ ॥
prem jito par gvaaran tho un sang rache in te sabh bhaagio |All the love that you had with the gopis, the same has now been relinquished,
ਦੈ ਤੁਹਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਸੁਨੋ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਹਮ ਜੋਗ ਕੇ ਭੇਖ ਪਠਾਵਨ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥
dai tuhi haath suno bateeyaa ham jog ke bhekh patthaavan laagio |“And it is now associated with the residents of Matura
ਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਊਧਵ ਯੌ ਕਹੀਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਭੈ ਅਬ ਤ੍ਯਾਗਿਓ ॥੯੩੫॥
taa sang aoodhav yau kaheeyo har joo tum prem sabhai ab tayaagio |935|O Udhava! he has sent to us the guise of yoga, O Udhava! tell Krishna that he has no love left for us.”935.
ਊਧਵ ਜੋ ਤਜਿ ਕੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਕੋ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਈਯੈ ॥
aoodhav jo taj kai brij ko chal kai jab hee mathuraa pur jeeyai |O Udhava! When (you) leave the Braj and go to Mathura Nagar.
ਪੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਹਿਤ ਕੈ ਹਮ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਪਾਇਨ ਪਈਯੈ ॥
pai apune chit mai hit kai ham or te sayaam ke paaein peeyai |“O Udhava! after leaving Braja, when you go to Matura, then fall at his feet with love from our side
ਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਤਿਹ ਪੈ ਫਿਰ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੋ ਉਤਰ ਦਈਯੈ ॥
kai at hee binatee tih pai fir kai ih bhaat so utar deeyai |“Then tell him with great humility that if one falls in love, he should carry it till the end
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਬਾਹੀਯੈ ਤਉ ਕਰੀਯੈ ਪਰ ਯੌ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਈਯੈ ॥੯੩੬॥
preet nibaaheeyai tau kareeyai par yau nahee kaahoon so preet kareeyai |936|If one cannot do it, then what is the use of falling in love.936.
ਊਧਵ ਮੋ ਸੁਨ ਲੈ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੋ ਧ੍ਯਾਨ ਜਬੈ ਕਰਿ ਹੋਂ ॥
aoodhav mo sun lai bateeyaa jadubeer ko dhayaan jabai kar hon |“O Udhava! listen to us
ਬਿਰਹਾ ਤਬ ਆਇ ਕੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਸੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਸਏ ਨ ਜੀਯੋ ਮਰਿ ਹੋਂ ॥
birahaa tab aae kai mohi grasai tih ke grase na jeeyo mar hon |Whenever we meditate on Krishna, then the pangs of the fire of separation greatly afflict us, by which we are neither alive nor dead
ਨ ਕਛੂ ਸੁਧਿ ਮੋ ਤਨ ਮੈ ਰਹਿ ਹੈ ਧਰਨੀ ਪਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਬਿਸੁਧੀ ਝਰਿ ਹੋਂ ॥
n kachhoo sudh mo tan mai reh hai dharanee par hvai bisudhee jhar hon |“We do not even have the consciousness of our body and we fall unconscious on the ground
ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਕੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੋ ਧੀਰਜ ਹਉ ਧਰਿ ਹੋਂ ॥੯੩੭॥
tih te ham ko brithaa kaheeai kih bhaat so dheeraj hau dhar hon |937|How to describe our perplexity to him? You may tell us how we can remain patient.”937.
ਦੀਨ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਸੋਊ ਕਹੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਜੁ ਥੀ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
deen hvai gvaaran soaoo kahai kab sayaam ju thee at hee abhimaanee |Those gopis who remined proud earlier, they said these things in great humility
ਕੰਚਨ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਕੰਜ ਮੁਖੀ ਜੋਊ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਸਾਨੀ ॥
kanchan se tan kanj mukhee joaoo roop bikhai rat kee fun saanee |They are the same gopis, whose body was like gold, the face like lotus-flower and who were like Rati in beauty
ਯੌ ਕਹੈ ਬ੍ਯਾਕੁਲ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਬਤੀਯਾ ਕਬਿ ਨੇ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੀ ॥
yau kahai bayaakul hvai bateeyaa kab ne tih kee upamaa pahichaanee |In this way they talk in a distraught manner, the poet has found this simile of that (sight).
ਊਧਵ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨੀਯਾ ਸਫਰੀ ਸਭ ਨਾਮ ਲੈ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕੋ ਜੀਵਤ ਪਾਨੀ ॥੯੩੮॥
aoodhav gvaaraneeyaa safaree sabh naam lai sayaam ko jeevat paanee |938|They are saying these things, getting distempered and according to the poet they appear like fish to Udhava, who can only survive in the water of Krishna.938.
ਆਤੁਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਖਭਾਨ ਸੁਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਊਧਵ ਕੇ ਸੁ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਇਮ ਬੈਨਾ ॥
aatur hvai brikhabhaan sutaa sang aoodhav ke su kahiyo im bainaa |Saddened, Radha said such words to Udhav.
ਭੂਖਨ ਭੋਜਨ ਧਾਮ ਜਿਤੋ ਹਮ ਕੇ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੁ ਰੁਚੈ ਨਾ ॥
bhookhan bhojan dhaam jito ham ke jadubeer binaa su ruchai naa |Getting agitated, Radha said this to Udhava, “O Udhava! we do not like the ornaments, food, houses etc. without Krishna,”
ਯੌਂ ਕਹਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਬਿਯੋਗ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਸਿ ਗੇ ਕਬਿ ਨੇ ਜਸ ਯੌ ਉਚਰੈਨਾ ॥
yauan keh sayaam biyog bikhai bas ge kab ne jas yau ucharainaa |Saying this Radha felt pangs of separation and also felt extreme hardship even in weeping
ਰੋਵਤ ਭੀ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਦੁਖ ਸੋ ਜੁ ਹੁਤੇ ਮਨੋ ਬਾਲ ਕੇ ਕੰਜਨ ਨੈਨਾ ॥੯੩੯॥
rovat bhee at hee dukh so ju hute mano baal ke kanjan nainaa |939|The eyes of that young damsel appeared like the lotus-flower.939.
