ਕੇਈ ਸੁਨਤ ਪਾਠ ਪਰਮੰ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥
keee sunat paatth paraman puneet |

Many listen to the most holy text

ਨਹੀ ਮੁਰਤ ਕਲਪ ਬਹੁਤ ਜਾਤ ਬੀਤ ॥੧੫੮॥
nahee murat kalap bahut jaat beet |158|

Many are listening to the recitation of the holy religious texts, while sitting and many do not look back even for many Kalpas (ages).158.

ਕੇਈ ਬੈਠ ਕਰਤ ਜਲਿ ਕੋ ਅਹਾਰ ॥
keee baitth karat jal ko ahaar |

Many eat water while sitting.

ਕੇਈ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸਨ ਪਹਾਰ ॥
keee bhramat des desan pahaar |

Many, being seated, are drinking water and many are roaming on the mountains and countries far and near

ਕੇਈ ਜਪਤ ਮਧ ਕੰਦਰੀ ਦੀਹ ॥
keee japat madh kandaree deeh |

Many chant (sitting) in large caves (caves).

ਕੇਈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਰਜ ਸਰਤਾ ਮਝੀਹ ॥੧੫੯॥
keee brahamacharaj sarataa majheeh |159|

Many are sitting in the caves and repeating the Name of the Lord and many celibates are moving in the streams.159.

ਕੇਈ ਰਹਤ ਬੈਠਿ ਮਧ ਨੀਰ ਜਾਇ ॥
keee rahat baitth madh neer jaae |

Many sit in the water.

ਕੇਈ ਅਗਨ ਜਾਰਿ ਤਾਪਤ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
keee agan jaar taapat banaae |

Many are sitting in water and many are warming themselves by burning the fire

ਕੇਈ ਰਹਤ ਸਿਧਿ ਮੁਖ ਮੋਨ ਠਾਨ ॥
keee rahat sidh mukh mon tthaan |

Many honest people keep silence on their faces.

ਅਨਿ ਆਸ ਚਿਤ ਇਕ ਆਸ ਮਾਨ ॥੧੬੦॥
an aas chit ik aas maan |160|

Many adepts observing silence, are remembering the Lord and many are absorbed in concentration on the sky in their mind.160.

ਅਨਡੋਲ ਗਾਤ ਅਬਿਕਾਰ ਅੰਗ ॥
anaddol gaat abikaar ang |

The bodies (of many) do not waver, nor do the limbs suffer.

ਮਹਿਮਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਆਭਾ ਅਭੰਗ ॥
mahimaa mahaan aabhaa abhang |

(Their) glory is great and the aura is abhang (imperishable).

ਅਨਭੈ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਨਭਵ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ॥
anabhai saroop anabhav prakaas |

(They are) fearless in form and enlightened by experience.

ਅਬਯਕਤ ਤੇਜ ਨਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੧੬੧॥
abayakat tej nis din udaas |161|

Many are absorbed in meditation on that stable and vice less Lord, Who is Supreme and praiseworthy, Whose glory is Unique, Who is cognition-incarnate and Lightt-incarnate, Whose Splendour is unmanifested and Who is Unattached.161.

ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਜੋਗਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
eih bhaat jog keene apaar |

Thus (many) have performed immeasurable merits.

ਗੁਰ ਬਾਝ ਯੌ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਉਧਾਰ ॥
gur baajh yau na hovai udhaar |

In this way, he practiced Yoga in various ways, but the salvation is not attained without the Guru

ਤਬ ਪਰੇ ਦਤ ਕੇ ਚਰਨਿ ਆਨਿ ॥
tab pare dat ke charan aan |

Then (they) came and fell at the feet of Dutt

ਕਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਜੋਗ ਕੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਧਾਨ ॥੧੬੨॥
keh dehi jog ke gur bidhaan |162|

Then they all fell at the feet of Dutt and requested him to instruct them in the method of Yoga.162.

ਜਲ ਮਧਿ ਜੌਨ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
jal madh jauan mundde apaar |

Those Apar (disciples) who were bathed in water,

ਬਨ ਨਾਮ ਤਉਨ ਹ੍ਵੈਗੇ ਕੁਮਾਰ ॥
ban naam taun hvaige kumaar |

Those who were subjected to tonsure ceremony in water, all those princes (boys) are under your refuge

ਗਿਰਿ ਮਧਿ ਸਿਖ ਕਿਨੇ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
gir madh sikh kine anek |

(which) many Sikhs did in the mountains,

ਗਿਰਿ ਭੇਸ ਸਹਤਿ ਸਮਝੋ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥੧੬੩॥
gir bhes sahat samajho bibek |163|

Those who were initiated as disciples in the mountains, they were known by the name Girl.163.

ਭਾਰਥ ਭਣੰਤ ਜੇ ਭੇ ਦੁਰੰਤ ॥
bhaarath bhanant je bhe durant |

Describing Bharata who became infinite (disciples),

ਭਾਰਥੀ ਨਾਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਭਣੰਤ ॥
bhaarathee naam taa ke bhanant |

Their name is called 'Bharthi'.

ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਸ ਸਿਖ ਕੀਨੇ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
pur jaas sikh keene apaar |

(which) the great disciples did in the cities,

ਪੁਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਤਉਨ ਜਾਨ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੧੬੪॥
puree naam taun jaan bichaar |164|

He wandered in the cities and made Barat, Parath, Puri etc. as Sannyasis.164.

ਪਰਬਤ ਬਿਖੈ ਸਜੇ ਸਿਖ ਕੀਨ ॥
parabat bikhai saje sikh keen |

The disciples who were decorated in the mountains,

ਪਰਬਤਿ ਸੁ ਨਾਮ ਲੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਦੀਨ ॥
parabat su naam lai taeh deen |

They were named 'Parbati'.

ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਪੰਚ ਨਾਮ ॥
eih bhaat uchar kar panch naam |

In this way the five names were pronounced.

ਤਬ ਦਤ ਦੇਵ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥੧੬੫॥
tab dat dev kine bisraam |165|

Those who were made disciples on the mountains, they were named ‘Parvat’ and in this way uttering the five names, Dutt took rest.165.

ਸਾਗਰ ਮੰਝਾਰ ਜੇ ਸਿਖ ਕੀਨ ॥
saagar manjhaar je sikh keen |

Those who made disciples in the ocean,

ਸਾਗਰਿ ਸੁ ਨਾਮ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥
saagar su naam tin ke prabeen |

Those were initiated as disciples in the sea, they were named as ‘Sagar’ and

ਸਾਰਸੁਤਿ ਤੀਰ ਜੇ ਕੀਨ ਚੇਲ ॥
saarasut teer je keen chel |

who had followed the banks of Saraswati,

ਸਾਰਸੁਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਲ ॥੧੬੬॥
saarasutee naam tin naam mel |166|

Those who were made disciples on the bank of river Sarasvati, they were named as ‘Sarasvati’.166.

ਤੀਰਥਨ ਬੀਚ ਜੇ ਸਿਖ ਕੀਨ ॥
teerathan beech je sikh keen |

Those who served in the shrines,

ਤੀਰਥਿ ਸੁ ਨਾਮ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥
teerath su naam tin ko prabeen |

Those who were made were made disciples at pilgrim-stations, those skilful disciples were named as ‘Tirath’

ਜਿਨ ਚਰਨ ਦਤ ਕੇ ਗਹੇ ਆਨਿ ॥
jin charan dat ke gahe aan |

Those who had come and held the feet of Dutt,

ਤੇ ਭਏ ਸਰਬ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥੧੬੭॥
te bhe sarab bidiaa nidhaan |167|

Those who came and caught the feet of Dutt, they all became the treasure of learning.167.

ਇਮਿ ਕਰਤ ਸਿਖ ਜਹ ਤਹ ਬਿਹਾਰਿ ॥
eim karat sikh jah tah bihaar |

Those who made disciples wherever they stayed

ਆਸ੍ਰਮਨ ਬੀਚ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ॥
aasraman beech jo jo nihaar |

In this way, wherever the disciples lived and wherever any disciple did anything,

ਤਹ ਤਹੀ ਸਿਖ ਜੋ ਕੀਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tah tahee sikh jo keen jaae |

And went there and made them servants.

ਆਸ੍ਰਮਿ ਸੁ ਨਾਮ ਕੋ ਤਿਨ ਸੁਹਾਇ ॥੧੬੮॥
aasram su naam ko tin suhaae |168|

The hermitage was established there in his name.

ਆਰੰਨ ਬੀਚ ਜੇਅ ਭੇ ਦਤ ॥
aaran beech jea bhe dat |

In Ban ('Arn') who were followers of Dutt

ਸੰਨ੍ਯਾਸ ਰਾਜ ਅਤਿ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਤਿ ॥
sanayaas raaj at bimal mat |

And Sannyas Shiromani and of very pure intellect (Datta).

ਤਹ ਤਹ ਸੁ ਕੀਨ ਜੇ ਸਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
tah tah su keen je sikh jaae |

The disciples who went there and made,

ਅਰਿੰਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਰਖਾਇ ॥੧੬੯॥
arin naam tin ko rakhaae |169|

That fearless Purusha Dutt made several disciples in the Aranyaks (forets), they were named `Aranayaks`.169.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਦਤ ਮਹਾਤਮੇ ਅਨਭਉ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸੇ ਦਸ ਨਾਮ ਧ੍ਰਯਾਯ ਸੰਪੂਰਣ ॥
eit sree bachitr naattak granthe dat mahaatame anbhau prakaase das naam dhrayaay sanpooran |

End of the chapter entitled "The ten names of Cognition-Incarnate disciples of th sage Dutt" in Bachittar Natak.

ਪਾਧੜੀ ਛੰਦ ॥
paadharree chhand |

(Now begins the description of making mind as the Second Guru) PAADHARI STANZA

ਆਜਾਨ ਬਾਹੁ ਅਤਿਸੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ॥
aajaan baahu atisai prabhaav |

Knee-length sleeved and very impressive

ਅਬਿਯਕਤ ਤੇਜ ਸੰਨ੍ਯਾਸ ਰਾਵ ॥
abiyakat tej sanayaas raav |

The glory of that king of Sannyasis was indescribable and the impact of his long arms was enormous

ਜਹ ਜਹ ਬਿਹਾਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਕਰਤ ਦਤ ॥
jah jah bihaar mun karat dat |

where he was sitting,

ਅਨਭਉ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ਅਰੁ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਤ ॥੧੭੦॥
anbhau prakaas ar bimal mat |170|

Wherever the sage Dutt went, there also the effulgence glistened and the pure intellect extended.170.

ਜੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
je hute des desan nripaal |

Those who were the kings of the lands,

ਤਜਿ ਗਰਬ ਪਾਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੁ ਢਾਲ ॥
taj garab paan laage su dtaal |

The kings of the countries far and near, forsaking their pride came and fell at his feet

ਤਜਿ ਦੀਨ ਅਉਰ ਝੂਠੇ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
taj deen aaur jhootthe upaae |

(They) abandoned other waste measures

ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਗਹਿਓ ਏਕ ਸੰਨ੍ਯਾਸ ਰਾਇ ॥੧੭੧॥
drirr gahio ek sanayaas raae |171|

They abandoned all the false measures and with determination, made Dutt, the king ofYogis, as their base.171.

ਤਜਿ ਸਰਬ ਆਸ ਇਕ ਆਸ ਚਿਤ ॥
taj sarab aas ik aas chit |

Leaving all other hopes, one hope (was assumed) in Chit.

ਅਬਿਕਾਰ ਚਿਤ ਪਰਮੰ ਪਵਿਤ ॥
abikaar chit paraman pavit |

Relinquishing all other desires, only one desire of meeting the Lord remained in their heart and

ਜਹ ਕਰਤ ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸਨ ਬਿਹਾਰ ॥
jah karat des desan bihaar |

Wherever (Datta) wandered among the lands,

ਉਠਿ ਚਲਤ ਸਰਬ ਰਾਜਾ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੧੭੨॥
autth chalat sarab raajaa apaar |172|

The mind of all of them was supremely pure and without any vice to whichever country Dutt went, the king of that place fell t his feet.172.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

DOHRA

ਗਵਨ ਕਰਤ ਜਿਹਾਂ ਜਿਹਾਂ ਦਿਸਾ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਨ ਦਤ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
gavan karat jihaan jihaan disaa mun man dat apaar |

Muni Dutt, who had a great mind, wherever he used to wander,

ਸੰਗਿ ਚਲਤ ਉਠਿ ਸਬ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਤਜ ਘਰ ਬਾਰ ਪਹਾਰ ॥੧੭੩॥
sang chalat utth sab prajaa taj ghar baar pahaar |173|

To whichever direction, Dutt went, the subjects of those places left their homes and accompanied him.173.

CHAUPAI

ਜਿਹ ਜਿਹ ਦੇਸ ਮੁਨੀਸਰ ਗਏ ॥
jih jih des muneesar ge |

Whichever country the great sage (Datta) went to,

ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਸਬ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਏ ॥
aooch neech sab hee sang bhe |

To whichever country, the great sage Dutt went, all the elders and minors accompanied him

ਏਕ ਜੋਗ ਅਰੁ ਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
ek jog ar roop apaaraa |

One yogic and the other immeasurable form,

ਕਉਨ ਨ ਮੋਹੈ ਕਹੋ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੧੭੪॥
kaun na mohai kaho bichaaraa |174|

Whereas he was a Yogi, he was also extremely beautiful, then who would there be without allurement.174.

ਜਹ ਤਹ ਚਲਾ ਜੋਗੁ ਸੰਨ੍ਯਾਸਾ ॥
jah tah chalaa jog sanayaasaa |

Where did sannyas yoga go?

ਰਾਜ ਪਾਟ ਤਜ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥
raaj paatt taj bhe udaasaa |

Wherever the impact of his Yoga and Sannyas reached, the people left all their paraphernalia and became unattached

ਐਸੀ ਭੂਮਿ ਨ ਦੇਖੀਅਤ ਕੋਈ ॥
aaisee bhoom na dekheeat koee |

No such land was seen,

ਜਹਾ ਸੰਨ੍ਯਾਸ ਜੋਗ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਈ ॥੧੭੫॥
jahaa sanayaas jog nahee hoee |175|

No such place was visible, where there was not the impact of Yoga and Sannyas.175.
