ਫੂਲ ਚੰਬੇਲੀ ਕੇ ਫੂਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਜਹਿ ਨੀਰ ਘਟਿਯੋ ਜਮਨਾ ਜੀਅ ਆਈ ॥

fool chanbelee ke fool rahe jeh neer ghattiyo jamanaa jeea aaee |

Where the Chambeli flowers were blooming and the Jamna water flowed with ghat.

ਤਉਨ ਸਮੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਥੀ ਰਿਤੁ ਅਉਸਰ ਯਾਹਿ ਭਈ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ॥੮੭੬॥

taun samai sukhadaaeik thee rit aausar yaeh bhee dukhadaaee |876|

The flowers of jasmine are not blooming and in sorrow, the water of Yamuna has also decreased, O friend! the season alongwith Krishna was very joy-giving and this season is very troublesome.876.

ਬੀਚ ਸਰਦ ਰਿਤੁ ਕੇ ਸਜਨੀ ਹਮ ਖੇਲਤ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥

beech sarad rit ke sajanee ham khelat sayaam so preet lagaaee |

Hey gentleman! In the winter season (i.e. in the month of Poh) we used to play lovingly with Krishna.

ਆਨੰਦ ਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਤਜ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜੀਯ ਕੀ ਦੁਚਿਤਾਈ ॥

aanand kai at hee man mai taj kai sabh hee jeey kee duchitaaee |

In winter season, we all had been happy in the company of Krishna and removing all our doubts we were absorbed in the amorous play

ਨਾਰਿ ਸਭੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਕੀਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਤਜਿ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਸੰਕ ਕਨ੍ਰਹਾਈ ॥

naar sabhai brij keen bikhai man kee taj kai sabh sank kanrahaaee |

Krishna also unhesitatingly considered all the gopis of Braja as his wives

ਤਾ ਸੰਗ ਸੋ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਥੀ ਰਿਤੁ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਬ ਭੀ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ॥੮੭੭॥

taa sang so sukhadaaeik thee rit sayaam binaa ab bhee dukhadaaee |877|

In his company that season was pleasure-giving and now the same season has become troublesome.877.

ਮਾਘ ਬਿਖੈ ਮਿਲ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਰਸ ਰਾਸ ਕੀ ਖੇਲ ਮਚਾਈ ॥

maagh bikhai mil kai har so ham so ras raas kee khel machaaee |

In the month of Magh, we had made the amorous play very famous in the company of Krishna

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਜਾਵਤ ਥੋ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਤਿਹ ਅਉਸਰ ਕੋ ਬਰਨਿਯੋ ਨਹਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

kaanrah bajaavat tho muralee tih aausar ko baraniyo neh jaaee |

At that time, Krishna played on his flute, that occasion cannot be described

ਫੂਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਤਹਿ ਫੂਲ ਭਲੇ ਪਿਖਿਯੋ ਜਿਹ ਰੀਝਿ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਰਰਾਈ ॥

fool rahe teh fool bhale pikhiyo jih reejh rahai suraraaee |

The flowers were blossoming and Indra, the king of gods, was getting pleased on seeing that spectacle

ਤਉਨ ਸਮੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਥੀ ਰਿਤੁ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਬ ਭੀ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ॥੮੭੮॥

taun samai sukhadaaeik thee rit sayaam binaa ab bhee dukhadaaee |878|

O friend! that season was comfort-giving and now the same season has become distressing.878.

ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਚਿਤਾਰਿ ਸਭੈ ਤਹ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਜੁ ਹੁਤੀ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ॥

sayaam chitaar sabhai tah gvaaran sayaam kahai ju hutee baddabhaagee |

The poet Shyam says, “Those very fortunate gopis are remembering Krishna

ਤ੍ਯਾਗ ਦਈ ਸੁਧਿ ਅਉਰ ਸਭੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਤਨ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਭੀਤਰ ਪਾਗੀ ॥

tayaag dee sudh aaur sabhai har baatan ke ras bheetar paagee |

Losing their consciousness, they are absorbed in the passionate love of Krihsna

ਏਕ ਗਿਰੀ ਧਰਿ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਬਿਸੁਧੀ ਇਕ ਪੈ ਕਰੁਨਾ ਹੀ ਬਿਖੈ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ॥

ek giree dhar hvai bisudhee ik pai karunaa hee bikhai anuraagee |

Someone has fallen down, someone has become unconscious and someone has been fully engrossed in his love

ਕੈ ਸੁਧਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕੇ ਖੇਲਨ ਕੀ ਮਿਲ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਰੋਵਨ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੮੭੯॥

kai sudh sayaam ke khelan kee mil kai sabh gvaaran rovan laagee |879|

All the gopis have begun weeping after remembering their amorous play with Krishna.879.

ਇਤਿ ਗੋਪੀਅਨ ਕੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਲਾਪ ਪੂਰਨੰ ॥

eit gopeean ko brilaap pooranan |

Here ends the lamentation of the gopis.

ਅਥ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਜੂ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੀਖਨ ਸਮੈ ॥

Now begins the description of learning Gayatri Mantra by Krishna

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਉਤ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਕੀ ਭੀ ਦਸਾ ਇਤ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕਥਾ ਭਈ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੁਨਾਊ ॥

aut te ih gvaaran kee bhee dasaa it kaanrah kathaa bhee taeh sunaaoo |

This was the condition of gopis on that side, on this side now I relate the condition of Krishna

ਲੀਪ ਕੈ ਭੂਮਹਿ ਗੋਬਰ ਸੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਸਭ ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ ਗਾਊ ॥

leep kai bhoomeh gobar so kab sayaam kahai sabh purohit gaaoo |

All the priests were called in after plastering the earth with cow-dung.

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬੈਠਾਇ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਕਬਿ ਪੈ ਗਰਗੈ ਸੁ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਹਿ ਠਾਊ ॥

kaanrah baitthaae kai sayaam kahai kab pai garagai su pavitreh tthaaoo |

The sage Garg was seated on the sacred spot

ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੋ ਤਾਹਿ ਦਯੋ ਜੋਊ ਹੈ ਭੁਗੀਆ ਧਰਨੀਧਰ ਨਾਊ ॥੮੮੦॥

mantr gaaeitree ko taeh dayo joaoo hai bhugeea dharaneedhar naaoo |880|

That sage gave him (Krishna) the Gayatri mantra, which is the enjoyer of the whole earth.880.

ਡਾਰਿ ਜਨੇਊ ਸੁ ਸ੍ਯਾਮਿ ਗਰੈ ਫਿਰ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸੁ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਮੈ ਦੀਨੋ ॥

ddaar janeaoo su sayaam garai fir kai tih mantr su sraun mai deeno |

Krishna was made to wear the sacred thread and the mantra was given to him in his ear

ਸੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਗਰਗੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਨ ਕੋ ਧਨ ਦੀਨੋ ॥

so sun kai har paae pariyo garagai bahu bhaatan ko dhan deeno |

After listening to the mantra, Krishna bowed at the feet of Garg and gave him enormous wealth etc.

ਅਸ ਬਡੈ ਗਜਰਾਜ ਔ ਉਸਟ ਦਏ ਪਟ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਾਜ ਨਵੀਨੋ ॥

as baddai gajaraaj aau usatt de patt sundar saaj naveeno |

Large horses and best elephants and camels adorned with new ornaments were given.

ਲਾਲ ਪਨੇ ਅਰੁ ਸਬਜ ਮਨੀ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਇ ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ ਆਨੰਦ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੮੮੧॥

laal pane ar sabaj manee tih paae purohit aanand keeno |881|

He was given horses, big elephants, camels and beautiful garments. On touching the feet of Garg, he was, with great delight, given rubies, emeralds and jewels, in charity.881.

ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ ਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਧਨੁ ਲੈ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਯੋ ॥

mantr purohit dai har ko dhan lai bahut man mai sukh paayo |

The priest was pleased on giving mantra to Krishna and receiving the wealth

ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਬੈ ਦੁਖ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਆਨੰਦ ਬੀਚ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥

tiaag sabai dukh ko tab hee at hee man aanand beech badtaayo |

All his sufferings ended and he attained supreme bliss.

ਸੋ ਧਨ ਪਾਇ ਤਹਾ ਤੇ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭੀਤਰ ਆਯੋ ॥

so dhan paae tahaa te chaliyo chal kai apune grih bheetar aayo |

After receiving the wealth, he came to his house

ਸੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਿ ਭਏ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਦਾਰਿਦ ਦੂਰ ਪਰਾਯੋ ॥੮੮੨॥

so sun mitr prasan bhe grih te sabh daarid door paraayo |882|

Knowing all this, his friends were entremely pleased and all types of poverty of the sage were destroyed.882.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਦਸਮ ਸਿਕੰਧ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਵਤਾਰੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਿ ਜੂ ਕੋ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਖਾਇ ਜਗ੍ਰਯੋਪਵੀਤ ਗਰੇ ਡਾਰਾ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥

eit sree dasam sikandh puraane bachitr naattak granthe krisanaavataare sree krisan joo ko gaaeitree mantr sikhaae jagrayopaveet gare ddaaraa dhiaae samaapatam sat subham sat |

End of the chapter entitled “Teaching of Gayatri Mantra to Krishna and wearing of the sacred thread” in Krishnavatara (based on Dasham Skandh Purana) in Bachittar Natak.

ਅਥ ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਜ ਦੀਬੋ ॥

Now begins the description of giving the kingdom to Uggarsain

SWAYYA

ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰੋਹਿਤ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਲੈ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੋ ਫਿਰਿ ਤਾਤ ਛਡਾਯੋ ॥

mantr purohit te har lai apune rip ko fir taat chhaddaayo |

Taking the mantra from the priest, then Krishna set his father free from imprisonment

ਛੂਟਤ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਿਹਾਰ ਕੈ ਆਇ ਕੈ ਪਾਇਨ ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕਾਯੋ ॥

chhoottat so har roop nihaar kai aae kai paaein sees jhukaayo |

After attaining freedom, seeing the divine form of Krishna, he bowed before him

ਰਾਜੁ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਤੁਮ ਲੇਹੁ ਜੂ ਸੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੈ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ਬੈਠਾਯੋ ॥

raaj kahiyo har ko tum lehu joo so nrip kai jaduraae baitthaayo |

(Ugrasen) said that O Krishna! You take the kingdom, (but) Sri Krishna made him king and seated him (on the throne).

ਆਨੰਦ ਭਯੋ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਜਸੁ ਭਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਰਾਯੋ ॥੮੮੩॥

aanand bhayo jag mai jas bhayo har santan ko dukh door paraayo |883|

Krishna said, “Now you rule over the kingdom” and then seated the king Uggarsain on the throne, there were rejoicings all over the world and the sufferings of the saints were removed.883.

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਜਬੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੋ ਬਧ ਕੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਤਾਤ ਕੋ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਿਧੋ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ॥

kaanrah jabai rip ko badh kai rip taat ko raaj kidho fir deeno |

When Krishna killed the enemy Kansa, he gave the kingdom to the father of Kansa

ਦੇਤ ਉਦਾਰ ਸੁ ਜਿਉ ਦਮਰੀ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਇਮ ਕੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਰੰਚ ਨ ਲੀਨੋ ॥

det udaar su jiau damaree tih ko im kai fun ranch na leeno |

The kingdom was given like giving the smallest of the coins, he himself did not accept anything, having not even the slight greed

ਮਾਰ ਕੈ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਦੀਯੋ ਸਭ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਜੀ ਨੋ ॥

maar kai satr abhekh kare su deeyo sabh santan ke sukh jee no |

After killing the enemies, Krishna laid bare the hypocrisy of his enemies

ਅਸਤ੍ਰਨਿ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੀਖਨ ਕੋ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਹਲੀ ਮੁਸਲੀ ਮਨ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੮੮੪॥

asatran kee bidh seekhan ko kab sayaam halee musalee man keeno |884|

After this he and Balram made up their mind for learning the science of arms and made preparations for it.884.

ਇਤਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਜ ਦੀਬੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨੰ ॥

eit raajaa ugrasain ko raaj deebo dhiaae sanpooranan |

End of the chapter entitled “Bestowal of the kingdom on the king Uggarsain.

ਅਥ ਧਨੁਖ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਸੀਖਨ ਸੰਦੀਪਨ ਪੈ ਚਲੇ ॥

ath dhanukh bidiaa seekhan sandeepan pai chale |

Now begins the description of learning Archery

ਆਇਸ ਪਾਇ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੋਊ ਧਨੁ ਸੀਖਨ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਾਜ ਚਲੇ ॥

aaeis paae pitaa te doaoo dhan seekhan kee bidh kaaj chale |

After getting the permission of their father regarding the learning of archery, both the brothers (Krishna and Balram) started (for their destination)
