ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਹੇਰਿ ਛਕਿ ਰਹੀ ॥
nrip kee prabhaa her chhak rahee |She was enchanted by the beauty of the king.
ਕੇਲ ਕਰੈ ਮੋ ਸੌ ਚਿਤ ਚਹੀ ॥
kel karai mo sau chit chahee |(She) wanted in Chit (that the king would marry me).
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਪਚਾਰ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
bhaat bhaat upachaar banaae |(He) made various efforts,
ਕੈ ਸਿਹੁ ਰਾਵ ਹਾਥ ਨਹਿ ਆਏ ॥੨॥
kai sihu raav haath neh aae |2|But somehow the king did not come. 2.
ਜਬ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸੋਇ ਸਦਨ ਮੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
jab triy soe sadan mai jaavai |When that woman went to the house to sleep
ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਆਵੈ ॥
nrip kee prabhaa chit mai aavai |Then the beauty of the king would have come to mind.
ਚਕਿ ਚਕਿ ਉਠੈ ਨੀਂਦ ਨਹਿ ਪਰੈ ॥
chak chak utthai neend neh parai |She wakes up early and does not fall asleep.
ਮੀਤ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰੈ ॥੩॥
meet milan kee chintaa karai |3|(All the time) she used to worry about meeting her lover. 3.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਵੈ ਸਮ੍ਰਥ ਅਸਮ੍ਰਥ ਮੈ ਵੈ ਸਨਾਥ ਮੈ ਅਨਾਥ ॥
vai samrath asamrath mai vai sanaath mai anaath |(Thinking in mind that) He is capable and I am incapable. He is an orphan and I am an orphan.
ਜਤਨ ਕਵਨ ਸੋ ਕੀਜਿਯੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਹਾਥ ॥੪॥
jatan kavan so keejiyai aavai jaa te haath |4|(I) what efforts should I make so that (beloved) comes into my hands. 4.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥
chauapee |twenty four:
ਕਾਸੀ ਬਿਖੈ ਕਰਵਤਹਿ ਲੈਹੋ ॥
kaasee bikhai karavateh laiho |(For the acquisition of the Beloved) I will endure hardships in Kashi.
ਪਿਯ ਕਾਰਨ ਅਪਨੋ ਜਿਯ ਦੈਹੋ ॥
piy kaaran apano jiy daiho |(I) will burn myself for the Beloved.
ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜੌ ਪਾਊ ॥
man bhaavat preetam jau paaoo |If (I) get the desired lover
ਬਾਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਜਾਰ ਬਿਕਾਊ ॥੫॥
baar anek bajaar bikaaoo |5|So (for him) be sold many times in the market.5.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਕਹਾ ਕਰੋਂ ਕੈਸੇ ਬਚੋਂ ਲਗੀ ਬਿਰਹ ਕੀ ਭਾਹ ॥
kahaa karon kaise bachon lagee birah kee bhaah |What should I do, how should I escape, (I) am on fire.
ਰੁਚਿ ਉਨ ਕੀ ਹਮ ਕੋ ਘਨੀ ਹਮਰੀ ਉਨੈ ਨ ਚਾਹ ॥੬॥
ruch un kee ham ko ghanee hamaree unai na chaah |6|am very excited for him, but he has no desire for me. 6.
ਨਾਜ ਮਤੀ ਤਬ ਆਪਨੀ ਲੀਨੀ ਸਖੀ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
naaj matee tab aapanee leenee sakhee bulaae |Naj Mati then called one of his friends (said that one)
ਬਾਹੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਾਜਾ ਭਏ ਕਹੋ ਸੰਦੇਸੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥
baahoo singh raajaa bhe kaho sandeso jaae |7|Bahu Singh is the king, go (to him) and give a message.7.
ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਤ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਖੀ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੂੰਚੀ ਆਇ ॥
bachan sunat taa kau sakhee tahaa pahoonchee aae |After listening to him, Sakhi reached there.
ਨਾਜ ਮਤੀ ਜੈਸੇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤ੍ਯੋਂ ਤਿਨ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥੮॥
naaj matee jaise kahiyo tayon tin kahiyo sunaae |8|(To him) as Naj Mati had said, in the same way told him. 8.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥
arril |adamant:
ਮੈ ਛਬਿ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਨਿਰਖ ਨਾਥ ਅਟਕਤ ਭਈ ॥
mai chhab tumaree nirakh naath attakat bhee |O Nath! I am fascinated by your beauty
ਬਿਰਹ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਬੂਡਿ ਸਿਰ ਲੌ ਗਈ ॥
birah samund ke beech boodd sir lau gee |And I have drowned up to my head in the sea of bitterness.
ਏਕ ਬਾਰ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਆਇਯੈ ॥
ek baar kar kripaa hamaare aaeiyai |Please come to me once
ਹੋ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਕੋ ਹਮ ਸੋ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਇਯੈ ॥੯॥
ho man bhaavat ko ham so bhog kamaaeiyai |9|And earn the pleasure you desire with me. 9.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥
chauapee |twenty four:
ਜਬ ਚੇਰੀ ਅਸ ਜਾਇ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥
jab cheree as jaae uchaaree |When the maid went and told this (to the king).
ਤਬ ਰਾਜੈ ਯੌ ਹਿਯੈ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
tab raajai yau hiyai bichaaree |Then the king thought thus in his mind.
ਸੋਊ ਬਾਤ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਕਹਿਜੈ ॥
soaoo baat ih triyeh kahijai |The same should be said with this woman
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਧਰਮ ਜੁਤ ਰਹਿਜੈ ॥੧੦॥
jaa te aap dharam jut rahijai |10|With which we can live with religion. 10.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥
arril |adamant:
ਦੋਇ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਹਮਰਿਨ ਤੇ ਏਕ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਯੈ ॥
doe satru hamarin te ek sanghaariyai |(The king sent as a reply) Kill one of my two enemies
ਬਿਨਾ ਘਾਇ ਕੇ ਕਿਯੇ ਦੂਸਰੋ ਮਾਰਿਯੈ ॥
binaa ghaae ke kiye doosaro maariyai |And kill the other without inflicting a wound.
ਤਬ ਮੈ ਤੁਮ ਕੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਸਦਨ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਹੋਂ ॥
tab mai tum ko apane sadan bulaae hon |Then I will invite you to my house
ਹੋ ਮਨ ਭਾਵਤ ਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਸੋ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਇ ਹੋਂ ॥੧੧॥
ho man bhaavat ke tum so bhog kamaae hon |11|And I will enjoy with you to my heart's content. 11.
ਜਾਇ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
jaae sahacharee kahiyo triyaa sun paae kai |Then the servant heard and went and told the woman.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਰਾਵ ਕੀ ਬਧੀ ਉਠੀ ਮਰਰਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
preet raav kee badhee utthee mararaae kai |Bound in the king's love, (she) stood up with a garment.
ਹ੍ਵੈ ਕੈ ਬਾਜ ਅਰੂੜ ਭੇਖ ਨਰ ਧਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
hvai kai baaj aroorr bhekh nar dhaar kai |She disguised herself as a man and sat on a horse
ਹੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਅਰਿ ਪੈ ਗਈ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥੧੨॥
ho nrip ke ar pai gee charitr bichaar kai |12|And thinking of (one) character, she went to the king's enemy. 12.
ਸੁਨੋ ਰਾਵ ਜੂ ਮੋ ਕੋ ਚਾਕਰ ਰਾਖਿਯੈ ॥
suno raav joo mo ko chaakar raakhiyai |(started to say) Hey Rajan! keep me as your servant
ਤਹ ਕੋ ਕਰੋ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਜਹਾ ਕੋ ਭਾਖਿਯੈ ॥
tah ko karo muhinm jahaa ko bhaakhiyai |(I will) campaign from there, from where you say.
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਲੇਤ ਲੌ ਲਰੋਂ ਨ ਰਨ ਤੇ ਹਾਰਿਹੋਂ ॥
praan let lau laron na ran te haarihon |I will fight to the death and will not lose the battle
ਹੌ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਰਿ ਮਾਰੈ ਖੇਤ ਨ ਬਾਜੀ ਟਾਰਿਹੋ ॥੧੩॥
hau bin ar maarai khet na baajee ttaariho |13|And the bet will not be released without killing the enemy in the battlefield. 13.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸੂਰ ਨਿਹਾਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਚਾਕਰ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
taa ko soor nihaar nripat chaakar kiyo |Seeing his bravery, the king kept the servant.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਖਜਾਨੋ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਹੁ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
grih te kaadt khajaano taa ko bahu diyo |He gave (him) a lot out of the treasury of the house.
