ਧੂਪ ਜਗਾਇ ਕੈ ਸੰਖ ਬਜਾਇ ਸੁ ਫੂਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰਖਾ ਬਰਖੈ ਹੈ ॥
dhoop jagaae kai sankh bajaae su foolan kee barakhaa barakhai hai |By lighting incense and playing the Sankh, you perform the flower barkha.
ਅੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਹਾਰਿ ਹੈਂ ਰੇ ਪਸੁ ਪਾਹਨ ਮੈ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਨ ਪੈ ਹੈ ॥੫੬॥
ant upaae kai haar hain re pas paahan mai paramesvar na pai hai |56|fools! In the end you will be defeated by taking (all kinds of) measures, but you will not be able to attain God in stones (i.e. idols). 56.
ਏਕਨ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਖਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਦਿਜ ਏਕਨ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥
ekan jantr sikhaavat hai dij ekan mantr prayog bataavai |These brahmins teach the jantras to the ikans and instruct the ikans to use mantras.
ਜੋ ਨ ਭਿਜੈ ਇਨ ਬਾਤਨ ਤੇ ਤਿਹ ਗੀਤਿ ਕਬਿਤ ਸਲੋਕ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ॥
jo na bhijai in baatan te tih geet kabit salok sunaavai |He who is not affected by these things, recites songs, poems and shlokas to them.
ਦ੍ਯੋਸ ਹਿਰੈ ਧਨ ਲੋਗਨ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਚੋਰੁ ਚਕੈ ਠਗ ਦੇਖਿ ਲਜਾਵੈ ॥
dayos hirai dhan logan ke grih chor chakai tthag dekh lajaavai |(These Brahmins) steal money from people's houses during the day. Thieves are astonished to see (that prowess) and rogues are ashamed.
ਕਾਨਿ ਕਰੈ ਨਹਿ ਕਾਜੀ ਕੁਟਵਾਰ ਕੀ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਕੈ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਮੁਰੀਦਨ ਖਾਵੈ ॥੫੭॥
kaan karai neh kaajee kuttavaar kee moondd kai moondd mureedan khaavai |57|They do not even care about Qazi and Kotwal and they loot and eat the murids.57.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਪਾਹਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੈਂ ਜੋ ਹੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਅਚੇਤ ॥
paahan kee poojaa karain jo hai adhik achet |Those who are more foolish worship stones.
ਭਾਗ ਨ ਏਤੇ ਪਰ ਭਖੈ ਜਾਨਤ ਆਪ ਸੁਚੇਤ ॥੫੮॥
bhaag na ete par bhakhai jaanat aap suchet |58|Even when they are so much, they do not eat bhang, but they consider themselves to be conscious (wise). 58.
ਤੋਟਕ ਛੰਦ ॥
tottak chhand |Totak verse:
ਧਨ ਕੇ ਲਗਿ ਲੋਭ ਗਏ ਅਨਤੈ ॥
dhan ke lag lobh ge anatai |Leaving aside the mother, father, son and wife
ਤਜਿ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬਾਲ ਕਿਤੈ ॥
taj maat pitaa sut baal kitai |Greedy for money, they go to other places.
ਬਸਿ ਕੈ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਸ ਤਹਾ ਹੀ ਮਰੈ ॥
bas kai bahu maas tahaa hee marai |(They) stay there for many months (for a long time) and die there
ਫਿਰਿ ਕੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਹਿ ਪੰਥ ਪਰੈ ॥੫੯॥
fir kai grihi ke neh panth parai |59|And then they do not fall on the path of home. 59.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਧਨੀ ਲੋਗ ਹੈ ਪੁਹਪ ਸਮ ਗੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਭੌਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
dhanee log hai puhap sam gun jan bhauar bichaar |Rich people are like flowers and Guni Janas (ie Brahmins) are like browns.
ਗੂੰਜ ਰਹਤ ਤਿਹ ਪਰ ਸਦਾ ਸਭ ਧਨ ਧਾਮ ਬਿਸਾਰ ॥੬੦॥
goonj rahat tih par sadaa sabh dhan dhaam bisaar |60|Forgetting everything outside the house, they always echo on them (the rich). 60.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥
chauapee |twenty four:
ਸਭ ਕੋਊ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲ ਬਸਿ ਭਯਾ ॥
sabh koaoo ant kaal bas bhayaa |Everyone is in the habit of Kaal in the end
ਧਨ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਨਿਕਰਿ ਤਜਿ ਗਯਾ ॥
dhan kee aas nikar taj gayaa |And they leave (everything) in the hope of wealth.
ਆਸਾ ਕਰਤ ਗਯਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
aasaa karat gayaa sansaaraa |The whole world has gone desiring (for wealth),
ਇਹ ਆਸਾ ਕੋ ਵਾਰ ਨ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੬੧॥
eih aasaa ko vaar na paaraa |61|But there is no limit to this 'desire'. 61.
ਏਕ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਵਹੈ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥
ek niraas vahai karataaraa |There is only one Creator who is free from desire.
ਜਿਨ ਕੀਨਾ ਇਹ ਸਕਲ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
jin keenaa ih sakal pasaaraa |Who has created this entire creation.
ਆਸਾ ਰਹਿਤ ਔਰ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
aasaa rahit aauar koaoo naahee |There is none other than desire.
ਜਾਨੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਦਿਜਬਰ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੬੨॥
jaan lehu dijabar man maahee |62|Oh great Brahman! (You) understand in your mind. 62.
ਲੋਭ ਲਗੇ ਧਨ ਕੇ ਏ ਦਿਜਬਰ ॥
lobh lage dhan ke e dijabar |These noble brahmins are trapped in the greed of wealth
ਮਾਗਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਸਭਨ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਘਰ ॥
maagat firat sabhan ke ghar ghar |And everyone goes around asking for a house.
ਯਾ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਕਰ ਡਿੰਭ ਦਿਖਾਵਤ ॥
yaa jag meh kar ddinbh dikhaavat |In this world (this) is shown by hypocrisy
ਤੇ ਠਗਿ ਠਗਿ ਸਭ ਕਹ ਧਨ ਖਾਵਤ ॥੬੩॥
te tthag tthag sabh kah dhan khaavat |63|And all the money is eaten by thugs. 63.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਆਸਾ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ਲਗੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਗਯਾ ਜਹਾਨ ॥
aasaa kee aasaa lage sabh hee gayaa jahaan |This whole world, engaged in desire ('asa'), is gone.
ਆਸਾ ਜਗ ਜੀਵਤ ਬਚੀ ਲੀਜੈ ਸਮਝਿ ਸੁਜਾਨ ॥੬੪॥
aasaa jag jeevat bachee leejai samajh sujaan |64|Let all the wise understand that only 'Asa' is left alive in the world. 64.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥
chauapee |twenty four:
ਆਸਾ ਕਰਤ ਸਗਲ ਜਗ ਜਯਾ ॥
aasaa karat sagal jag jayaa |The whole world is born by hoping.
ਆਸਹਿ ਉਪਜ੍ਯਾ ਆਸਹਿ ਭਯਾ ॥
aaseh upajayaa aaseh bhayaa |Arising in asa, asa becomes form itself.
ਆਸਾ ਕਰਤ ਤਰੁਨ ਬ੍ਰਿਧ ਹੂਆ ॥
aasaa karat tarun bridh hooaa |A young man grows old while hoping.
ਆਸਾ ਕਰਤ ਲੋਗ ਸਭ ਮੂਆ ॥੬੫॥
aasaa karat log sabh mooaa |65|All the people have died while hoping. 65.
ਆਸਾ ਕਰਤ ਲੋਗ ਸਭ ਭਏ ॥
aasaa karat log sabh bhe |All the people hoping
ਬਾਲਕ ਹੁਤੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਧ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਏ ॥
baalak huto bridh hvai ge |From child to old age.
ਜਿਤਿ ਕਿਤ ਧਨ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਡੋਲਹਿ ॥
jit kit dhan aasaa kar ddoleh |Hoping where they are wandering
ਦੇਸ ਬਿਦੇਸ ਧਨਾਸ ਕਲੋਲਹਿ ॥੬੬॥
des bides dhanaas kaloleh |66|And in the hope of wealth, they roam around in foreign countries. 66.
ਪਾਹਨ ਕਹੁ ਧਨਾਸ ਸਿਰ ਨ੍ਯਾਵੈ ॥
paahan kahu dhanaas sir nayaavai |In the hope of money, they cut the head of the stone
ਚੇਤ ਅਚੇਤਨ ਕੌ ਠਹਰਾਵੈ ॥
chet achetan kau tthaharaavai |And the unconscious is called conscious.
ਕਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਪੰਚ ਪੇਟ ਕੇ ਕਾਜਾ ॥
karat prapanch pett ke kaajaa |High low, Rana and Raja
ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਰਾਨਾ ਅਰੁ ਰਾਜਾ ॥੬੭॥
aooch neech raanaa ar raajaa |67|(All) do Prapancha for the sake of the stomach. 67.
ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਸਿਛਾ ਸੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵੈ ॥
kaahoo ko sichhaa su drirraavai |Make someone educated
ਕਾਹੂੰ ਕੌ ਲੈ ਮੂੰਡ ਮੁੰਡਾਵੈ ॥
kaahoon kau lai moondd munddaavai |And they shave one's head.
