ਗੜੇਦਾਰ ਮਾਨੋ ਕਰੀ ਮਤ ਕੀ ਜ੍ਯੋ ॥੨੪॥
garredaar maano karee mat kee jayo |24|As if the hunters ('Gadedar') had surrounded the drunken elephant. 24.
ਤਬੈ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਚੰਦੇਲੇ ॥
tabai kop kai krisan maare chandele |Then Shri Krishna got angry and shouted,
ਮਘੇਲੇ ਧਧੇਲੇ ਬਘੇਲੇ ਬੁੰਦੇਲੇ ॥
maghele dhadhele baghele bundele |Maghele, Dhadhele, Baghele and Bundele were killed.
ਚੰਦੇਰੀਸ ਹੂੰ ਕੌ ਤਬੈ ਬਾਨ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
chanderees hoon kau tabai baan maaraa |Then shot 'Chanderis' (King Shishupal of Chanderi) with an arrow.
ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਭੂਮਿ ਪੈ ਨ ਹਥ੍ਯਾਰੈ ਸੰਭਾਰਾ ॥੨੫॥
giriyo bhoom pai na hathayaarai sanbhaaraa |25|He fell on the ground and could not hold the weapons. 25.

ਜਰਾਸਿੰਧ ਕਹਿ ਪੁਨਿ ਸਰ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
jaraasindh keh pun sar maaraa |Then he shot Jarasandha with an arrow.
ਭਾਗਿ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਨ ਹਥ੍ਯਾਰ ਸੰਭਾਰਾ ॥
bhaag chaliyo na hathayaar sanbhaaraa |(He) ran away without taking his weapon.
ਭਿਰੇ ਸੁ ਮਰੇ ਬਚੇ ਤੇ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
bhire su mare bache te haare |Those who fought (on the battlefield) were killed, those who survived were defeated.
ਚੰਦੇਰਿਯਹਿ ਚੰਦੇਲ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥੨੬॥
chanderiyeh chandel sidhaare |26|The Chandelas fled to Chanderi. 26.
ਤਬ ਰੁਕਮੀ ਪਹੁਚਤ ਭਯੋ ਜਾਈ ॥
tab rukamee pahuchat bhayo jaaee |Then Rukmi came there.
ਅਧਿਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਸੌ ਕਰੀ ਲਰਾਈ ॥
adhik krisan sau karee laraaee |(He) fought a lot with Krishna.
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਨ ਬਿਸਿਖ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ ॥
bhaat bhaat tan bisikh prahaare |He shot arrows in many ways.
ਹਾਰਿਯੋ ਵਹੈ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨਹਿ ਹਾਰੇ ॥੨੭॥
haariyo vahai krisan neh haare |27|He lost, Krishna did not lose. 27.
ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਠਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਾ ॥
chit mai adhik tthaan kai krudhaa |By raising a lot of anger in Chit
ਮਾਡਤ ਭਯੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਸੌ ਜੁਧਾ ॥
maaddat bhayo krisan sau judhaa |(He) started a war with Krishna.
ਏਕ ਬਾਨ ਤਬ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰਾ ॥
ek baan tab sayaam prahaaraa |Then an arrow was fired by Shyam.
ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀ ਪਰ ਜਾਨੁ ਸੰਘਾਰਾ ॥੨੮॥
giriyo prithee par jaan sanghaaraa |28|(He) fell (inj) on the earth, as if he had been killed. 28.
ਸਰ ਸੌ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਤਿਹ ਸੀਸਾ ॥
sar sau moondd pratham tih seesaa |First by shaving his head with an arrow
ਬਾਧਿ ਲਯੋ ਰਥ ਸੌ ਜਦੁਈਸਾ ॥
baadh layo rath sau jadueesaa |Then Sri Krishna tied it to the chariot.
ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਜਾਨਿ ਰੁਕਮਿਨੀ ਛਡਾਯੋ ॥
bhraat jaan rukaminee chhaddaayo |Thinking him a brother, Rukmini freed (him).
ਲਜਤ ਧਾਮ ਸਿਸਪਾਲ ਸਿਧਾਯੋ ॥੨੯॥
lajat dhaam sisapaal sidhaayo |29|And Shishupal also went home ashamed. 29.
ਕਿਨੂੰ ਚੰਦੇਲਨ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੂਟੇ ॥
kinoo chandelan ke sir tootte |How many chandeliers' heads were broken
ਕਈਕ ਗਏ ਮੂੰਡ ਘਰ ਟੂਟੇ ॥
keek ge moondd ghar ttootte |And many returned home with injured heads.
ਸਕਲ ਚੰਦੇਲੇ ਲਾਜ ਲਜਾਏ ॥
sakal chandele laaj lajaae |All Chandelas were ashamed of the lodge
ਨਾਰਿ ਗਵਾਇ ਚੰਦੇਰੀ ਆਏ ॥੩੦॥
naar gavaae chanderee aae |30|(Because he) lost his wife and returned to Chanderi. 30.

doharaa |dual:
ਗਏ ਚੰਦੇਲ ਚੰਦੇਰਿਯਹਿ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਰਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
ge chandel chanderiyeh kar te naar gavaae |Chandel took his wife and went to Chanderi Nagar.
ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਤਨ ਰੁਕਮਨੀ ਬਰਤ ਭਈ ਜਦੁਰਾਇ ॥੩੧॥
eih charitr tan rukamanee barat bhee jaduraae |31|With this character, Rukmini married Sri Krishna. 31.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਤੀਨ ਸੌ ਬੀਸ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੩੨੦॥੬੦੪੩॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਸੁਕ੍ਰਾਚਾਰਜ ਦਾਨ੍ਵਨ ਕੋ ਗੁਰ ॥
sukraachaaraj daanvan ko gur |Shukracharya was the master of demons.
ਸੁਕ੍ਰਾਵਤੀ ਬਸਤ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਪੁਰ ॥
sukraavatee basat jaa ko pur |Sukravati Nagar lived (on his name).
ਮਾਰਿ ਦੇਵ ਜਾ ਕੌ ਰਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
maar dev jaa kau ran jaavai |whom the gods would have killed in war,
ਪੜਿ ਸੰਜੀਵਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਜਿਯਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
parr sanjeevan taeh jiyaavai |1|(Then he) would give him life by studying Sanjeevani (education). 1.
ਦੇਵਜਾਨਿ ਇਕ ਸੁਤਾ ਤਵਨ ਕੀ ॥
devajaan ik sutaa tavan kee |He had a daughter named Devyani,
ਅਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਛਬਿ ਹੁਤੀ ਜਵਨ ਕੀ ॥
apramaan chhab hutee javan kee |Who had infinite beauty.
ਕਚ ਨਾਮਾ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੋ ਦਿਜਬਰ ॥
kach naamaa devan ko dijabar |There was (one) priest of the gods named Kacha.
ਆਵਤ ਭਯੋ ਸੁਕ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਤਬ ਘਰ ॥੨॥
aavat bhayo sukr ke tab ghar |2|Then he (once) came to Shukracharya's house. 2.
ਦੇਵਜਾਨਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਯਾ ਅਧਿਕ ਹਿਤ ॥
devajaan sang kiyaa adhik hit |He was very interested in Devyani
ਹਰਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਤ੍ਯੋਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੋ ਚਿਤ ॥
har leeno jayon tayon triy ko chit |And how did he take that woman's heart.
ਮੰਤ੍ਰਹਿ ਲੇਨ ਸੰਜੀਵਨ ਕਾਜਾ ॥
mantreh len sanjeevan kaajaa |He was tricked by the king of gods
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਪਠਿਯੋ ਦੇਵਤਨ ਰਾਜਾ ॥੩॥
eih chhal patthiyo devatan raajaa |3|Sanjeevani was sent to learn mantra. 3.
ਦੈਤ ਭੇਦ ਪਾਵਤ ਜਬ ਭਏ ॥
dait bhed paavat jab bhe |When (this) secret became known to the demons,
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਡਾਰਿ ਨਦੀ ਹਨਿ ਗਏ ॥
taa ko ddaar nadee han ge |So they killed him and threw him in the river.
ਬਿਲਮ ਲਗੀ ਵਹ ਧਾਮ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
bilam lagee vah dhaam na aayo |(When) it was quite late and he did not return home
ਦੇਵਜਾਨਿ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੪॥
devajaan at hee dukh paayo |4|So Devyani felt very sad. 4.
ਭਾਖਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਤਨ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜਿਯਾਯੋ ॥
bhaakh pitaa tan bahur jiyaayo |By telling his father, he revived him.
ਦੈਤਨ ਦੇਖ ਅਧਿਕ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
daitan dekh adhik dukh paayo |The giants were very sad to see this.
ਨਿਤਿਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
nitiprat maar taeh utth jaavai |(They) used to kill him everyday.
ਪੁਨਿ ਪੁਨਿ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਸੁਕ੍ਰ ਜਿਯਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
pun pun taa kau sukr jiyaavai |5|Shukracharya would give him life again and again. 5.
ਤਬ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਦ੍ਰਯ ਮਹਿ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
tab tih maar madray meh ddaariyo |Then (they) killed him and put him in wine
ਬਚਤ ਭੂੰਜਿ ਨਿਜੁ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਖਵਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
bachat bhoonj nij gureh khavaariyo |And what remained, he roasted and fed to the Guru.
ਦੇਵਜਾਨਿ ਜਬ ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਲਹਾ ॥
devajaan jab taeh na lahaa |When Devyani did not see him,
ਅਧਿਕ ਦੁਖਿਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਪਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਹਾ ॥੬॥
adhik dukhit hvai pit prat kahaa |6|So he said to his father very sad. 6.
ਅਬ ਲੌ ਕਚ ਜੁ ਧਾਮ ਨਹਿ ਆਯੋ ॥
ab lau kach ju dhaam neh aayo |By now Kach came home.
ਜਨਿਯਤ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਅਸੁਰ ਚਬਾਯੋ ॥
janiyat kinahoon asur chabaayo |It seems that some giant has eaten him.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਪਿਤੁ ਤਿਹ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜਿਯਾਵੋ ॥
taa te pit tih bahur jiyaavo |So O Father! Bring him back to life
ਹਮਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਸੋਕ ਮਿਟਾਵੋ ॥੭॥
hamare man ko sok mittaavo |7|And remove the sorrow of my heart. 7.
ਤਬ ਹੀ ਸੁਕ੍ਰ ਧ੍ਯਾਨ ਮਹਿ ਗਏ ॥
tab hee sukr dhayaan meh ge |Only then Shukracharya became absorbed in meditation
ਤਿਹ ਨਿਜੁ ਪੇਟ ਬਿਲੋਕਤ ਭਏ ॥
tih nij pett bilokat bhe |And saw him in his stomach.
ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਜੀਵਨ ਕੌ ਕਿਹ ਦੈ ਕਰਿ ॥
mantr sajeevan kau kih dai kar |By giving him the sanjeevani mantra
ਕਾਢਤ ਭਯੋ ਉਦਰ ਅਪਨੋ ਫਰਿ ॥੮॥
kaadtat bhayo udar apano far |8|He tore his stomach and pulled it out. 8.
ਕਾਢਤ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੁਕ੍ਰ ਮਰਿ ਗਯੋ ॥
kaadtat taeh sukr mar gayo |Shukracharya died as soon as he was removed.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਲ ਕਚਹਿ ਜਿਯਯੋ ॥
bahur mantr bal kacheh jiyayo |Kach brought him back to life with the power of the mantra.
ਸ੍ਰਾਪ ਦਯੋ ਮਦਾ ਕੋ ਤਿਹ ਤਹ ॥
sraap dayo madaa ko tih tah |He cursed alcohol from then on.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਪਿਯਤ ਨ ਯਾਕਹ ਕੋਊ ਕਹ ॥੯॥
taa te piyat na yaakah koaoo kah |9|That is why no one calls it (alcohol, alcohol) and drinks it. 9.
ਦੇਵਿਜਾਨ ਪੁਨਿ ਐਸ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
devijaan pun aais bichaaraa |Devyani then said like this
ਯੌ ਕਚ ਤਨ ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਉਚਾਰਾ ॥
yau kach tan taj laaj uchaaraa |And abandoning the lodge said to Kach,
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਮੋ ਸੌ ਤੈ ਕਰੁ ਰੇ ॥
kaam bhog mo sau tai kar re |Hey! have sex with me
ਹਮਰੇ ਮਦਨ ਤਾਪ ਕਹ ਹਰੁ ਰੇ ॥੧੦॥
hamare madan taap kah har re |10|And calm the fire of my desire. 10.
ਤਿਨ ਰਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਨ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
tin rat karee na taa te sangaa |Even though he (Devayani) was full of lust (in his body),
