ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਬਡੋ ਅਹਿ ਕੇ ਰਿਪੁ ਕੋ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਰਾ ਮਧਿ ਆਇ ਛਪੇ ਥੇ ॥

“We people had great fear of garuda (blue jay) and we had concealed ourselves in this pool

ਗਰਬੁ ਬਡੋ ਹਮਰੇ ਪਤਿ ਮੈ ਅਬ ਜਾਨਿ ਹਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਜਪੇ ਥੇ ॥

Our husband had definitely some pride and he has not remembered the Lord

ਹੇ ਜਗ ਕੇ ਪਤਿ ਹੇ ਕਰੁਨਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਤੈ ਦਸ ਰਾਵਨ ਸੀਸ ਕਪੇ ਥੇ ॥

“O Lord our foolish husband did not know that it were you who had chopped all the ten heads of Ravana

ਮੂਰਖ ਬਾਤ ਜਨੀ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਨੈ ਹਮ ਇਉ ਹੀ ਖਪੇ ਥੇ ॥੨੧੬॥

We all had destroyed ourselves, our family in vain, on being agitaed.”216.

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਾਚ ਕਾਲੀ ਸੋ ॥

Speech of Krishna addressed to the family of the serpent Kali:

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਬੋਲਿ ਉਠਿਓ ਤਬ ਇਉ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਅਬ ਛਾਡਤ ਹਉ ਤੁਮ ਦਛਨਿ ਜਈਯੋ ॥

Then Krishna said, “Now I release you all, you go away towards the south

ਰੰਚਕ ਨ ਬਸੀਯੋ ਸਰ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੁਤ ਲੈ ਸੰਗ ਬਾਟਹਿ ਪਈਯੋ ॥

Do not abide ever in this pool, all of you may go away now alongwith your children.

ਸੀਘ੍ਰਤਾ ਐਸੀ ਕਰੋ ਤੁਮ ਹੂੰ ਤਿਰੀਆ ਲਈਯੋ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁ ਲਈਯੋ ॥

“All of you, taking your women with you leave immediately and remember the name of the Lord.”

ਛੋਡਿ ਦਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਗ ਬਡੋ ਥਕਿ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਮਧਿ ਬਰੇਤਨ ਪਈਯੋ ॥੨੧੭॥

In this way, Krishna released Kali and being tired he lay down on the sand.217.

SWAYYA

ਹੇਰਿ ਬਡੋ ਹਰਿ ਭੈ ਵਹ ਪੰਨਗ ਪੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੋ ਉਠਿ ਭਾਗਾ ॥

ਬਾਰੂ ਕੇ ਮਧਿ ਗਯੋ ਪਰ ਕੈ ਜਨ ਸੋਇ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਖ ਕੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਜਾਗਾ ॥

Krishna saw that huge snake got up and moved back to its own place and lying on the sand wanted to sleep comfortably as though he had remained awake for several nights

ਗਰਬ ਗਯੋ ਗਿਰ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਰਨ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਸੋ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਾ ॥

His pride had been smashed and he was absorbed in the love of the Lord

ਲੇਟ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਪਮਾ ਇਹ ਡਾਰਿ ਚਲੇ ਕਿਰਸਾਨ ਸੁਹਾਗਾ ॥੨੧੮॥

He began to praise the Lord and lay down there like the unused manure left in the field by the farmer.218.

ਸੁਧਿ ਭਈ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਉਠ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਨ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥

When the consciousness of the snake returned, he fell at the feet of Krishna

ਪਉਢਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਥਕ ਕੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਮੋ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਲਗਿਓ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਜਾਗਿਓ ॥

“O Lord! Being tired, I had slept and on waking, I have come to touch your feet.”

ਦੀ ਧਰਿ ਮੋਰਿ ਸੁ ਨੈਕੁ ਬਿਖੈ ਤੁਮ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਉਠਿ ਭਾਗਿਓ ॥

ਦੇਖਿ ਲਤਾ ਤੁਮ ਕਉ ਨ ਬਧੈ ਮਮ ਬਾਹਨ ਮੋ ਰਸ ਮੋ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਿਓ ॥੨੧੯॥

Krishna said, ”Whatever I have said, you act on it and observe the Dharma (discipline) and O women! Undoubtedly my vehicle Garuda was desirous of killing him, but still I have not killed him.”219.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਵਤਾਰੇ ਕਾਲੀ ਨਾਗ ਨਿਕਾਰਬੋ ਬਰਨਨੰ ॥

Now begins the description of the bestowal of charity

SWAYYA

ਨਾਗਿ ਬਿਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਗਰੜਧ੍ਵਜ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ॥

Bidding farewell to Naga, Krishna came to his family

ਧਾਇ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਗਰੇ ਤਾਹਿ ਹਲੀ ਅਰੁ ਮਾਤ ਮਿਲੀ ਤਿਹ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥

Balram came running to him, his mother met him and the sorrow of everyone ended

ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਧਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਧੇਨ ਹਜਾਰ ਤਬੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਵਾਰੈ ॥

At the same time, one thousand golden-horned cows, sacrificing them on Krishna, were given in charity

ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਬਢਾਇ ਬਹੁ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੈ ਬਾਮਨ ਕੋ ਦੈ ਡਾਰੈ ॥੨੨੦॥

The poet Shyam says that in this way, extending their extreme attachment in mind, this charity was given to Brahmins.220.

ਲਾਲ ਮਨੀ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਗ ਬਡੇ ਨਗ ਦੇਤ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਤੀਛਨ ਘੋਰੇ ॥

ਪੁਹਕਰ ਅਉ ਬਿਰਜੇ ਚੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਜਰਬਾਫ ਦਿਵਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਦਿਜ ਜੋਰੇ ॥

Red gems, pearls, jewels and horses were given in charity, many types of brocaded garments were given to Brahmins

ਮੋਤਿਨਿ ਹਾਰ ਹੀਰੇ ਅਰੁ ਮਾਨਿਕ ਦੇਵਤ ਹੈ ਭਰਿ ਪਾਨਨ ਬੋਰੇ ॥

ਕੰਚਨ ਰੋਕਿਨ ਕੇ ਗਹਨੇ ਗੜਿ ਦੇਤ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਬਚੇ ਸੁਤ ਮੋਰੇ ॥੨੨੧॥

The bags filled with necklaces of diamonds, jewels and gems were given and giving the golden ornaments, the mother Yashoda prays that her son be protected.221.

ਅਥ ਦਾਵਾਨਲ ਕਥਨੰ ॥

SWAYYA

ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਿ ਸਭੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਰੈਨ ਪਰੇ ਘਰ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸੋਏ ॥

All the people of Braja, being pleased, slept in their homes at night

ਆਗ ਲਗੀ ਸੁ ਦਿਸਾ ਬਿਦਿਸਾ ਮਧਿ ਜਾਗ ਤਬੈ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਡਰਿ ਰੋਏ ॥

The fire broke out at night in all directions and all became afraid

ਰਛ ਕਰੈ ਹਮਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਇਹ ਚਿਤਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ਤਹਾ ਕਹੁ ਹੋਏ ॥

All of them thought that they would be protected by Krishna

ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੀ ਕਰੁਨਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੀਚ ਲਯੋ ਇਤਨੈ ਸੁ ਤਊ ਦੁਖ ਖੋਏ ॥੨੨੨॥

Krishna told them to close their eyes, so that all their sufferings may end.222.

ਮੀਚ ਲਏ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਜਉ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਨਰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਹਰਿਦੌ ਤਉ ॥

As soon as all the people closed their eyes, Krishna drank the whole fire

ਦੋਖ ਮਿਟਾਇ ਦਯੋ ਪੁਰ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਹਨਿ ਦਯੋ ਭਉ ॥

He removed all their sufferings and fears

ਚਿੰਤ ਕਛੂ ਨਹਿ ਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਜਿਨ ਕੋ ਕਰੁਨਾਨਿਧਿ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੈ ਖਉ ॥

ਦੂਰ ਕਰੀ ਤਪਤਾ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਜਨੁ ਡਾਰ ਦਯੋ ਜਲ ਕੋ ਛਲ ਕੈ ਰਉ ॥੨੨੩॥

They whose agony is removed by Krishna, how can they remain anxious for anything? The heat of all was cooled don as if they were cooled by washing in the waves of water.223.

ਕਬਿਤੁ ॥

KABIT

ਆਖੈ ਮਿਟਵਾਇ ਮਹਾ ਬਪੁ ਕੋ ਬਢਾਇ ਅਤਿ ਸੁਖ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਇ ਆਗਿ ਖਾਇ ਗਯੋ ਸਾਵਰਾ ॥

By getting the eyes of the people closed and expanding his body in endless pleasure, Krishna devoured all the fire

ਲੋਕਨ ਕੀ ਰਛਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਕਰੁਨਾ ਕੇ ਨਿਧਿ ਮਹਾ ਛਲ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਚਾਇ ਲਯੋ ਗਾਵਰਾ ॥

For the protection of the people, the benevolent Lord, through great deception has saved the city.

ਕਹੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਮ ਕਰਿਓ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਰਿ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਫੁਨਿ ਫੈਲ ਰਹਿਓ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸ ਨਾਵਰਾ ॥

ਦਿਸਟਿ ਬਚਾਇ ਸਾਥ ਦਾਤਨ ਚਬਾਇ ਸੋ ਤੋ ਗਯੋ ਹੈ ਪਚਾਇ ਜੈਸੇ ਖੇਲੇ ਸਾਗ ਬਾਵਰਾ ॥੨੨੪॥

The poet Shyam says that Krishna did a very difficult task and with this his name spread in all the ten directions and all this work was done like a juggler, who chews and digests all, keeping himself out of sight.224.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾਵਤਾਰੇ ਦਾਵਾਨਲ ਤੇ ਬਚੈਬੋ ਬਰਨਨੰ ॥
