ਨਚੀ ਕਲ ਸਰੋਸਰੀ ਕਲ ਨਾਰਦ ਡਉਰੂ ਵਾਇਆ ॥
nachee kal sarosaree kal naarad ddauroo vaaeaa |The discord danced over all the heads and Kal and Narad sounded their tabor.
ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਉਤਾਰਨ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਮਹਿਖਾਸੁਰ ਸੁੰਭ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
abhimaan utaaran devatiaan mahikhaasur sunbh upaaeaa |Mahishasura and Sumbh were created for removing the pride of the gods.
ਜੀਤਿ ਲਏ ਤਿਨ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਤਿਹ ਲੋਕੀ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
jeet le tin devate tih lokee raaj kamaaeaa |They conquered the gods and ruled over the three worlds.
ਵਡਾ ਬੀਰੁ ਅਖਾਇ ਕੈ ਸਿਰ ਉਪਰ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਫਿਰਾਇਆ ॥
vaddaa beer akhaae kai sir upar chhatru firaaeaa |He was called a great hero and had a canopy moving over his head.
ਦਿਤਾ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੁ ਨਿਕਾਲ ਕੈ ਤਿਨ ਗਿਰ ਕੈਲਾਸੁ ਤਕਾਇਆ ॥
ditaa indru nikaal kai tin gir kailaas takaaeaa |Indra was turned out of his kingdom and he looked towards the Kailash mountain.
ਡਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਥੋ ਦਾਨਵੀ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਸੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
ddar kai hatho daanavee dil andar traas vadhaaeaa |Frightened by the demons, the element of fear grew enormously in his heart
ਪਾਸ ਦੁਰਗਾ ਦੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੁ ਆਇਆ ॥੩॥
paas duragaa de indru aaeaa |3|He came, therefore to Durga.3.

ਇਕ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਨਾਵਣ ਆਈ ਦੁਰਗਸਾਹ ॥
eik dihaarre naavan aaee duragasaah |One day Durga came for a bath.
ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਅਪਣੇ ਹਾਲ ਦੀ ॥
eindr birathaa sunaaee apane haal dee |Indra related to her the story agony:
ਛੀਨ ਲਈ ਠਕੁਰਾਈ ਸਾਤੇ ਦਾਨਵੀ ॥
chheen lee tthakuraaee saate daanavee |“The demons have seized from us our kingdom."
ਲੋਕੀ ਤਿਹੀ ਫਿਰਾਈ ਦੋਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ॥
lokee tihee firaaee dohee aapanee |“They have proclaimed their authority over all the three worlds."
ਬੈਠੇ ਵਾਇ ਵਧਾਈ ਤੇ ਅਮਰਾਵਤੀ ॥
baitthe vaae vadhaaee te amaraavatee |“They have played musical instruments in their rejoicings in Amaravati, the city of gods."
ਦਿਤੇ ਦੇਵ ਭਜਾਈ ਸਭਨਾ ਰਾਕਸਾਂ ॥
dite dev bhajaaee sabhanaa raakasaan |“All the demons have caused the flight of the gods."
ਕਿਨੇ ਨ ਜਿਤਾ ਜਾਈ ਮਹਖੇ ਦੈਤ ਨੂੰ ॥
kine na jitaa jaaee mahakhe dait noo |“None hath gone and conquered Mahikha, the demon."
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਮ ਤਕਾਈ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੁਰਗਸਾਹ ॥੪॥
teree saam takaaee devee duragasaah |4|“O goddess Durga, I have come under Thy refuge.”4.

ਦੁਰਗਾ ਬੈਣ ਸੁਣੰਦੀ ਹਸੀ ਹੜਹੜਾਇ ॥
duragaa bain sunandee hasee harraharraae |Listening to these words (of Indra), Durga laughed heartily.
ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਦੇਵਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ॥
chintaa karahu na kaaee devaa noo aakhiaa |She said to gods, “Do not worry mother any more.”
ਰੋਹ ਹੋਈ ਮਹਾ ਮਾਈ ਰਾਕਸਿ ਮਾਰਣੇ ॥੫॥
roh hoee mahaa maaee raakas maarane |5|For killing the demons, the great mother exhibited great fury.5.

ਰਾਕਸਿ ਆਏ ਰੋਹਲੇ ਖੇਤ ਭਿੜਨ ਕੇ ਚਾਇ ॥
raakas aae rohale khet bhirran ke chaae |The infuriated demons came with the desire of fighting in the battlefield.
ਲਸਕਨ ਤੇਗਾਂ ਬਰਛੀਆਂ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੬॥
lasakan tegaan barachheean sooraj nadar na paae |6|The swords and daggers glisten with such brilliance that the sun cannot be seen.6.

ਦੁਹਾਂ ਕੰਧਾਰਾ ਮੁਹਿ ਜੁੜੇ ਢੋਲ ਸੰਖ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਬਜੇ ॥
duhaan kandhaaraa muhi jurre dtol sankh nagaare baje |Both the armies faced each other and the drums, conches and trumpets sounded.
