ਰੂਪਵਾਨ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਬਿਸਾਲਾ ॥
roopavaan dhanavaan bisaalaa |(The king) was very handsome and rich.
ਭਿਛਕ ਕਲਪਤਰੁ ਦ੍ਰੁਜਨਨ ਕਾਲਾ ॥੧॥
bhichhak kalapatar drujanan kaalaa |1|For the Mangatas he was (the same as) Kalpatru and for the Durjanas (was the same form of Kaal).1.
ਮੂੰਗੀ ਪਟਨਾ ਦੇਸ ਤਵਨ ਕੋ ॥
moongee pattanaa des tavan ko |Mungi Patan was his country,
ਜੀਤਿ ਕਵਨ ਰਿਪੁ ਸਕਤ ਜਵਨ ਕੋ ॥
jeet kavan rip sakat javan ko |Whom no enemy could defeat.
ਅਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਤਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
apramaan tih prabhaa biraajai |His brilliance was limitless.
ਸੁਰ ਨਰ ਨਾਗ ਅਸੁਰ ਮਨ ਲਾਜੈ ॥੨॥
sur nar naag asur man laajai |2|(In front of him) Gods, humans, snakes and giants were shy in mind. 2.
ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਰਾਨੀ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
ek purakh raanee lakh paayo |Rani saw a man
ਤੇਜਮਾਨ ਗੁਨਮਾਨ ਸਵਾਯੋ ॥
tejamaan gunamaan savaayo |(who was inferior to the king) in virtue and in brilliancy.
ਪੁਹਪ ਰਾਜ ਜਨੁ ਮਧਿ ਪੁਹਪਨ ਕੇ ॥
puhap raaj jan madh puhapan ke |He should be the best flower among flowers
ਚੋਰਿ ਲੇਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਚਿਤ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਕੇ ॥੩॥
chor let jan chit isatrin ke |3|And the mind of women should be a stealer. 3.

soratthaa |Sortha:
ਰਾਨੀ ਲਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਤਵਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਨੇ ਸਦਨ ॥
raanee layo bulaae tavan purakh apane sadan |Rani invited that man to her house
ਅਤਿ ਰੁਚਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਬਢਾਇ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਰਤਿ ਮਾਨਤ ਭਈ ॥੪॥
at ruch adhik badtaae taa sau rat maanat bhee |4|And with great interest, played with him. 4.

ਤਬ ਲਗਿ ਨਾਥ ਧਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਆਯੋ ॥

ਬਹੁ ਚਿਰ ਤਹ ਬੈਠਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਹਾ ॥
bahu chir tah baitthaa nrip rahaa |The king sat there for a long time
ਭਲਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਕਛੁ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਲਹਾ ॥
bhalaa buraa kachh bhed na lahaa |And nothing could distinguish between good and bad.
ਜਬ ਹੀ ਉਠਿ ਅਪਨੋ ਘਰ ਆਯੋ ॥
jab hee utth apano ghar aayo |When he got up and came home
ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਘਰ ਮੀਤ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥੬॥
tab hee triy ghar meet patthaayo |6|Only then did the woman send Mitra home (by removing the scarf). 6.

ਸੁਨੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਮੈ ਭਾਖਤ ਕਥਾ ॥
suno nripat mai bhaakhat kathaa |O Rajan! Listen, (to you) I narrate a story.
ਜਹ ਮਿਲਿ ਦੇਵ ਸਮੁਦ ਕਹ ਮਥਾ ॥
jah mil dev samud kah mathaa |Where the gods (and giants) together churned the ocean,
ਤਹਾ ਸੁਬ੍ਰਤ ਨਾਮਾ ਮੁਨਿ ਰਹੈ ॥
tahaa subrat naamaa mun rahai |A sage named Subrata lived there.
ਅਧਿਕ ਬ੍ਰਤੀ ਜਾ ਕਹ ਜਗ ਕਹੈ ॥੧॥
adhik bratee jaa kah jag kahai |1|The whole world called him very bratti. 1.
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਜ ਮਤੀ ਤਿਹ ਰਹੈ ॥
triy mun raaj matee tih rahai |Muni's wife Raj Mati also lived there.
ਰੂਪ ਅਧਿਕ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਕਹੈ ॥
roop adhik jaa ko sabh kahai |Everyone called him very handsome.
ਅਸਿ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਨਹਿ ਔਰ ਉਤਰੀ ॥
as sundar neh aauar utaree |Such a beauty was not born anywhere else (in the world).
ਹੈ ਹ੍ਵੈਹੈ ਨ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਕਰੀ ॥੨॥
hai hvaihai na bidhaataa karee |2|God has not created (a beauty like her) before and not now (has created one).2.
ਸਾਗਰ ਮਥਨ ਦੇਵ ਜਬ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
saagar mathan dev jab laage |Gods when the seas began to churn,
ਮਥ੍ਰਯੋ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਗੇ ॥
mathrayo na jaae sagal dukh paage |So it could not be stirred and everyone became sad.
ਤਬ ਤਿਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥
tab tin triy ih bhaat uchaaro |Then the woman said thus,
ਸੁਨੋ ਦੇਵਤਿਯੋ ਬਚਨ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥੩॥
suno devatiyo bachan hamaaro |3|O gods! Listen to me one thing. 3.
ਜੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਧਰੈ ਸੀਸ ਪਰ ਝਾਰੀ ॥
jo bidh dharai sees par jhaaree |If Brahma gets a head on his head
ਪਾਨਿ ਭਰੈ ਜਲ ਰਾਸਿ ਮੰਝਾਰੀ ॥
paan bharai jal raas manjhaaree |And filled the water from the ocean ('Jal Rasi').
ਮੇਰੋ ਧੂਰਿ ਪਗਨ ਕੀ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
mero dhoor pagan kee dhovai |Wash the dust off my feet.
ਤਬ ਯਹ ਸਫਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹੋਵੈ ॥੪॥
tab yah safal manorath hovai |4|Then this intention will be successful. 4.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਤਿ ਆਤੁਰ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਬਿਚਰਾ ॥
braham at aatur kachh na bicharaa |Brahma, who was greatly disturbed, did not think of anything.
ਝਾਰੀ ਰਾਖਿ ਸੀਸ ਜਲ ਭਰਾ ॥
jhaaree raakh sees jal bharaa |He lifted the jug on his head and filled it with water.
ਦੇਖਹੁ ਇਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਿਤਾ ॥
dekhahu ih isatrin ke charitaa |Look at the character of these women.
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਚਰਿਤ ਦਿਖਾਯੋ ਕਰਤਾ ॥੫॥
eih bidh charit dikhaayo karataa |5|In this way, they also showed the character of Brahma. 5.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਤੀਨ ਸੌ ਉਨੀਸ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੩੧੯॥੬੦੧੨॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਭੂਮਿ ਭਾਰ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
bhoom bhaar te at dukh paayo |(When) the earth suffered greatly due to the weight (of sins).
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਪੈ ਦੁਖ ਰੋਇ ਸੁਨਾਯੋ ॥
brahamaa pai dukh roe sunaayo |So Brahma went to him and told (his grief) crying.
